I felt bad for Rex

| | Comments (38)

Am I the only one who felt bad for Rex Grossman yesterday?

I don't know, maybe it's fine to boo the guy every time he makes a bad pass. He gets paid a decent amount of money and should be able to take it.

But I just felt uncomfortable with the level of animosity. Felt bad for the guy.

I've never been a big Rex fan, but what's the point? Seriously. And don't tell me it's directed at Angelo. It's not.

What do you want the guy to do? He lost his job. He's on his way out. He's not Cedric Benson, who screwed up chance after chance. He's not Brian Urlacher, who holds out for more money and then can't get off a block yesterday while the defense absolutely sucked.

Rex never has been a huge jackass. I don't find him particularly likable, but what's the point?

I think Rex is the best quarterback the Bears have. No meant disrespect to Kyle Orton, though. Grossman was stuck with a toilet of an offense, headed by head plumber Ron Turner. He also had receivers who would rather throw him under a truck(Muhammed and Berrian)that catch the passes thrown to him, or another who is so full of himself(Hester)he forgets to catch a perfect touchdown pass by Rex and lets it hit his shoulder pad!!!!!
Would McMahon have been booed out of the stadium if he would have had a tough time of it? Typical Bears fans...

Ask Terry Bradshaw, Donovan McNabb, Jim Plunkett or Eli Manning.

I think people boo because they feel like they were sold a bill of goods. The Bears and the fans invested 6 years in Rex and didn't see progress -- even though every year we were told he was better.

Compare the hatred of Dave Wannstedt to Rex. I think it's very similar -- and for many of the same reasons. Wannstedt once told us all the pieces were in place and then turned in a 4-12 season. He set back Bears football, then Dolphin football, then Pittsburgh Panther football a collective 250 years.

This town knows good defenses and realizes it has one right now. In fact, it has had one for 3 years, but the offense hasn't kept up (and both were bad last year).

As Mr. T was fond of saying, "I pity the fool", but at the end of the day, Rex has been paid pretty well for a job that's been so-so given his draft position.

Yeah, people should stop booing. And Angelo should begin reading this blog so he knows what an ass we all think he is. But I don't think either is going to happen.

Happy Friday everyone.

Julie B. -- why so blue? All your posts of late have been pretty deflating. No fun riding shotgun on an empty bandwagon?

Honestly, Rex should be starting. Hope Orton gets drilled the first of the season, and then Rex gets his chance.

It's a pathetic display of all that is bad about (a portion) of the Chicago Fan base.
The man just lost his starting job, yeah because he is stinking it up, so what!?
So he loses his job and that isn't enough for some people. "LET's collectively kick him while he is down and boo him everytime he doesnt complete a pass...DESPITE the circumstances (like having a defensive end in your face).
And why? Well because he got hurt his first couple of seasons and plays erratic.
"We were SOLD a bill of goods"???? NO, we drafted a kid out of college and asked him to try and be a good quarterback in the NFL. YOU GUYS act like that is a piece of cake! Ya sure, just look around at all the other top drafted QB's --- there should be NO problem stepping in and being an instant success! ITS ONLY the NFL, right!?

Finally, Urlacher sucks! He had 1 tackle yesterday and really he simply fell on the guy who was already falling down. I DONT begrude the guy for being hurt but I do for signing his name to a CONTRACT and then essentially breaking it by asking for more money WHILE KNOWING his back is in bad shape.
It's either that case or he has simply turned into a soft lazy bum (I choose to believe the former).

I feel bad for Rex and ashamed for the Bears fans that boo him mercilessly. Rex isn't a very good NFL quaterback. He's too short, too slow, he panics under pressure and he turns the ball over WAY too much. With that said, he has been a very "stand-up" guy. When he played poorly he never ducked the press. He stood up at the podium and took the questions. He never tried to throw a teammate or coach under the bus to save himself, and Lord know he could have (Olin Kruetz). His perfomances were bad, but not for lack of effort. He deserves to be on the bench and off the roster, but not treated as he's been by the fans. You must respect his effort and manner.

Feel bad for Rex? The fans wouldn't be booing if he was playing well! This is pro football, for Pete's sake! Feel bad for Rex, because the people who basically support his $4 million salary are unimpressed with his poor play and let him know it? No. I feel bad for the Bears fans who had his ineptitude jammed down their throats for years. (Yes, self-pity).
Orton will do fine. I wonder if he can tackle?

It is classless to boo Rex the way our fans did last night. Boos should be reserved for players who perform poorly because they aren't trying, despite being paid obscenely. Rex has always gave his all for this squad - and yes, the stars were seemingly aligned against him in this town - but he was never rude, arrogant, or anything other than a team player. His offensive line let him down time and again, and the poor guy got the snot beat out of him, and he loses his job, and then he has to be booed during a meaningless pre-season appearance in which he throws six passes? Rex may not have been the answer, but he did everything he could for Bears football for many years. Applaud his noble (albeit failed) effort and send him on his way with grace.

On one hand, I can understand the human compassion argument against booing Rex, who I will admit is a good citizen and a stand up guy.

On the other hand, I favor booing him out of the stadium, and all the way to the city limits.

I just want him to go away, and whatever helps to facilitate his departure is all right with me.

Don't go away mad Rex; just go away!

Sorry ... but I just can't bring myself to get all watery eyed about someone who's getting paid a small fortune to stink up the field every Sunday, while also contributing to the ruination of my entire weekend.

Boo hoo.

If Rex is looking for sympathy, the last time I checked, it was in Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.

It's somewhere between "S#!t" and "Syphilis".

REX will never totally go away....IF and when he does leave Chicago, and goes to another media market that is a little more patient (which is any market besides CHI or NYC), he will play lights out like he did the first half of 2006. Chicago relentlessly gives him crap at will for no other reason besides that he did not singlehandedly win the Super Bowl. IF ANYONE WAS WATCHING THE SUPERBOWL, they will realize that it was a TEAM LOSS...Yes he did throw a pic-6, but, lets see....Daniel Manning blew coverage, Benson fumbled too and got injured, Addai/Rhodes rushed for 200 yards, it was a damn monsoon storm, Peyton ate up the 3rd quarter timewise because all he did was dink and dunk in the middle of the Cover-2, Blah blah blah blah....

Once REX goes somewhere that may APPRECIATE his talents and ENCOURAGE him properly, he will be fine...

I was at the 49ers game last night, and it is pathetic to hear half of Chicago jeer someone unmercifly when he is playing with the damn second string and Mark Bradley cannot do a Bernard Berrien and catch up to the pass, or because Rex overthrows one route and tries to run away from the blitz and throw it away instead of throwing a pic after that.....

REX did more for the Bears in 2006 than anyone remembers....he helped turn a year-in/year-out mediocre/boring offense into a "Big PLAY THREAT" at anytime with, lets see, MUHSIN MUHAMMAD, BERNARD BERRIEN,and RASHIED DAVIS, one who is old, one who was still green behind the ears, and an ARENA LEAGUE free agent. He threw for more touchdowns than any bear since Erik Kramer, and all in his FIRST FULL SEASON...

I wonder if 2006 happened in reverse, where REX had his pathetic games in the beginning and got it out of the way, and THEN played lights out at the END of the season(regardless of the SB ending), would Chicago have turned on him then? I doubt it.

When Peyton Manning was younger, he got ate up his first year, then played lights out for a few years, but choked every year until 2006/07, but Indy had the PATIENCE to mold him and groom him...

Terry Bradshaw got LITERALLY eaten alive in Pittsburgh (and lost all of his hair) his first couple years, was called stupid, ignorant, slow, and many other expletive names, but PITT had the patience to stay with him, and LOOK at the results. (and look at who was the ONLY TV analyst last year who took the position that CHI should have left REX in the starting spot!)

Doug Williams had good potential, but was suffocated in TB...when Gibbs came calling along in 87, he KNEW his history and was patient with him, and LOOK at the results.

John Elway got to HOW MANY superbowls and Choked??? Before waiting 14 years to win one...yet again, PATIENCE.....

Brett Favre, no matter how great he is or was, has 'averaged' HOW MANY INTERCEPTIONS a year?????

Steve Young was talented as hell, but had to wait 6 years behind Joe, and when he DID get to play got heckled as much as anyone ever in SF because he "was not Joe Montana", but they were PATIENT with him and LOOK at the results.

WHEN SOME TEAM PICKS REX OUT OF THE GUTTER, and is PATIENT with him, he will make Chicago eat their words.

I still don't believe that the booing is really directed at Grossman as much as it is for Jerry Angelo.
He, along with Lovie Smith have tried to shove Grossman down our throats time after time when it was obvious to every one around the league that he was not going to be a star or even a good QB.
This hard headed attitude lead to the Bears doing every thing in their power to avoid what needed to be done to land a real franchise QB. They refuse to even try and it is maddening to everyone who knows anything about football.
No trades, free agents or draft picks aimed at solving this never ending problem.
Angelo HAS to have this pick work to justify his scouting ability and unless Orton blossoms into a really good QB then they have nothing at all lined up for the future.
This stupidity has already cost them one Super Bowl and now the possibility of missing the playoffs again seems all too real.

Rex Grossman? Thanks for trying. You had a few moments but came up short too often and at the worst time.
Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith? Booooooo!

Save your booing for someone who isn't starting and isn't playing worth a crap. Someone who holds out for more money because he's jealous of a teammate getting more. Someone named Brian Urlacher. Grossman had no offensive line support when he played his two series what was Urlacher's excuse?

Chris, while I'm not absolutely certain that Rex would succeed in the "right" environment, I COULDN'T AGREE MORE! However, it has become painfully obvious, the "right" situation is no longer with the Bears. I think this is a classic case of someone needing a fresh start elsewhere. For one thing, in spite of the surprisingly positive play of the O-line overall (let's see how long that lasts!) Thursday evening, he is one QB who requires a wonderful line with an almost Walter Payton-like blitz-catcher at RB. He truly is too short. His hands are small. He's highly immobile. The list of negatives don't stop there. That said, as I've said in this blog, few QBs throw a fantastic deep ball like Rex does with under the "right" circumstances. That is an elite skill that, with confidence that Rex no longer can have in Chicago, can extend itself in other facets of the position. I honestly believe that September of '06 was no fluke, but a representation of everything around him being "just right" as the Papa Bear would say in the childrens' tale.

With regard to the vitriolic and incessant booing, the main problem is that he's ALWAYS the "fall guy" when there's more to the story that he doesn't entirely deserve in large part to his physical makeup, but also in large part to the poor environment presented to him. I think there are far more "booable" people in this league. Heck, what about on the Bears? Why not boo Brian Urlacher for playing like a bum Thursday night? How about the entire "elite" defense? They made San Francisco look Super Bowl bound? JT O'Sullivan? Huh? Is Mike Martz that much of a genius? If the Urlacher's crew play even remotely that way against Indy, the Colts won't need Payton Manning.

Peyton - strong accurate arm, height, football PhD, leader
Bradshaw - accurate, Swann, Stallworth, Harris, and monster d(year after year after year...)
Elway - accurate rocket arm, leader, Terrell Davis
Favre - accurate rocket arm, durability, leader
Young - strong accurate arm, mobile as h3ll, Jerry Rice

Which one of the previous qualities/circumstances does Rex share with these quarterbacks? (eagerly winging a ball down field whenever he feels like it does not equate to arm strength...)

BTW, Williams is the closest analogy there. A one-hit wonder who... WAIT ...he actually WON the big game (Wah Wahhhhh) - nevermind...

Life goes on. A former pianist who was victimized by nay-sayers said that he laughed all the way to the bank. Rex will get another shot either with the Bears or elsewhere. In the meantime, the paychecks will keep coming in, and booing attention can be directed toward an incompetent defense, an offensive line that can neither pass-block nor run-block, and coaches who seem unable to help resolve problems.

The developmental curve in the NFL for almost any position is a short one.

QB's get a little longer leash because the position is so critical, and difficult to learn, but the grace period rarely lasts more than a year.

Troy Aikman, and Peyton Manning both sucked during their rookie seasons. If they'd have sucked the following year too, it's highly unlikely that their respective teams would have kept them in the starting line-up. This game is all about production and wins. Nothing else matters.

Even the 49ers are smart enough to know when to bail on #1 first round pick. How long do you think they would have stuck with Grossman?

Just because a team has wasted a top draft pick on a player doesn't mean they have to continue running him out there every week to the detriment of the entire team.

Does anyone remember Ryan Leaf, Art Shlichter, or Rick Mier?

They were basically one and done because they couldn't cut it. Why does everyone feel the need to hold onto the empty hope of Grossman?

Ya, I felt bad watching him blow the Super Bowl...I felt bad watching him play as long as he has...I would feel worse if I had to be one of his receivers waiting until mid season before he gets a chance of catching a ball...This guy must have played through college due to his popularity. Lovie waited too long to yank him!

Rex will go down as a patsy of the Bears losing in the 2000's.

That superbowl lose to the Colts and Mr Destiny was a monumental set up for failure. There was no way anyone was letting Manning lose that game.

History will show that it was Coaching and General managing that Failed the Bears, not the QB

Cant wait for the next 6 years!

People boo Rex to be cool and trendy. They get tanked show up to the stadium and pray he does terrible. The guy is an ultimate class act and i love him. I hope he goes somewhere else and absolutley lights us up. I thought he would be great here and I was wrong. But it's no excuse to shower him with boos in his stadium. When you boo Rex you boo the whole team. I say that because i believe he is one of the most well respected people on the entire team. GO REX GO BEARS

First of all I do feel sorry for Rex when he gets booed out of the stadium, but to say he is the best QB they have on the team is complete GARBAGE. Orton has been under the same system for 3-4 years now and we dont know what he has, so how can anyone say Rex is better, we all haven't seen what he has (and dont give me his rookie year stats; come on he was a rookie give me one rookie QB that didn't have a horrible rookie season). I believe that Orton has a legit chance of being a average to great QB, and average would be great for a Chicago team that has had nothing but garbage at that possition. It's Orton's time now and Thursday he looked every bit the part. Go BEARS! GO ORTON!

Great players make their teamates look better by compensating for their weaknesses and covering up for their errors. Rex accentuates his teammates failures because he is incapable of playing successfully unless everything is perfect for him. Too bad he has to play in the real world nfl and not just training camp.

After 5 years of pushing him as their quarterback, angelo and lovie finally have a fake qb competition and Rex loses? Really comical if you think about it. Maybe the bears fans are booing because they don't like being treated like village idiots.

Rex wouldn't even be in chicago if another team had shown any interest in him in the off season. No other teams wanted him, even as a back up, so the bears brought him back to avoid having their five year project exposed as a cfl player.

Why boo Rex? How about: for five years of waste of a darn good defense, for five years of waiting for angelo to show he was right with one first round draft pick, for lovie not having any idea how to run an offense? Take your pick, everytime Rex puts the ball on the ground or stumbles that is what gets remembered.

I was ashamed of the Fans. No way did he deserve to be booed like that. JT O'Sullivan wasn't good enough to make the Bear roster twice, but last night our defense made him looke like the next Joe Montana. Wonder what Rex would do if we had and o-coordinator like Mike Martz? We might find out soon. Here again, lets stick with Schoop, oops, I mean Turner. Why did we get rid of Rivera? Why can't we find good coaching? Orton won't have the success either.

Sure, Rex isn't the bears QB savior, but lets face it he is the closest thing we got right now. Can any bears fan right now honestly think that we are going all the way with Orton. I mean doesn't anyone remember Orton in 05'. It was like watching a horrific train wreck happen before your eyes. I dont see how letting Rex play out this season is going to hurt the bears. Let the kid gain some confidence and give him an offensive line and I feel he will succeed. I personally thing that the offensive line had already made the choice for the starting QB before Smith ever did. It was night and day difference how they played with Orton taking snaps than with Rex. How come Rex getting hurried on just about every passing play. Against the 49ers grossman played at least 1 series that I saw with the starting offensive line that hung him out to dry. Half the players on this line would not make the practice squad on a superbowl contending team. Maybe we should be booing them. Im not saying that Rex is the best, all Im saying is that we are better off with him starting. What is the worst that could happen, he gets hurt?

I guess what bothers me most about many of these conversations is they are all too often simplistic. Maybe I am sensitive as someone who has been a fan of the game as well as the Bears for 35 years...maybe because I have both played and coached the game, and I am tired of the armchair quarterbacking.

At the end of the day, every NFL team, coach, manager, and player is subject to the same forces (finances, free agency and the salary cap, injuries, character and personality issues, complex schemes, and luck). Some they control, others they don't.

Rex clearly had his chances. He was paid millions and the organization demonstrated patience for him through both his injuries and his development. While not an astounding offense, solid line play that held the pocket and supported a decent running game, coupled with the emergence of a decent (though no 42 million dollar) wideout and a stellar defense and special teams in 2006 game him the opportunity to be a not just in the Superbowl, but a winner. And he didn't deliver. Should that mean we heckle him every time we see him...I guess I can't muster such hatred for someone who I don't personally know.

Orton, like Rex, is a stand-up guy. All he has done is everything the Bears have asked...and win (although that doesn't seem to account for much in these blogs). He is no Manning, no Brady, and is likely a middle of the pack kind of guy. He doesn't make a ton of mistakes. He will never be pretty in the pocket. I would be happy with consistent.

In Thursday's game, the defense deserved to be booed...missed tackles are one thing, a lack of effort is unacceptable...and Urlacher was not the only one accountable.

The real questions are:

Can the line protect the quarterback and open holes for the ground game? Will the defense revert to its old form and better weather injuries? Will special teams be able to continue the dominance it demonstrated in the last few years? Finally, will the quarterback play be consistent?

Experts and novices will line up alike to spout out their opinions. Last time I checked, Sunday will actually tell us the answers.

I can understand why you feel bad for the guy. He is a talented QB and he is not a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. In my eyes I believe those guys have been set up with success. Just look at the talent around them. Talented QB + Consistent OL + good RB/WR = WINS. When they went to the super bowl that is what we had. I do not blame Lovie Smith either, but jerry Angelo plays a role. He is not setting the Offense up for success. I would love to see that day when we overpay a player in free agency and that player out does his contract. In my eyes if Grossman had talent around him he would be a superstar. Maybe would should throw Grossman on defense and he might succeed. So somebody needs to put front office if check

Well actually it is not really Ron Turners fault because he is doing the best he can that GM Jerry Angelo gives to him in players for the offense. I think Angelo needs to be fired because all he and Lovie Smith focus more on is Defense and Offense if it is mediocre then the defense can carry the offense which is a wrong frame of mind to have.

That is why I am in a way looking forward to when the BEARS fire Jerry Angelo. I am a major Bears fan but the thing is that I would love to see for once the BEARS change thier philosphy to compete with other teams. What I mean by that is stir things up a little with the offense by having a star quarterback who can play the game with some widereceivers like a Randy Moss out there, a Bolden of the Cardinals, and any other big name widereceivers that the BEARS can have for stars on offense. I am using those names as examples to say that is what I would love to see the BEARS offense look like and have a very good runningback to pound the ball down the opposing teams throats.

The way it is right now everyone knows that the BEARS are going to run the ball and sometimes pass it when they have to for them to catch up or put points on the board. Why can't the BEARS ever hire a good offensive and defensive minded General Manager? The last time I saw that was when I was 13 years old for the 1985 BEARS Super Bowl team. That is what we need. That is my opinion and I think Ted Phillips needs to do that. Change things up a little bit!

This is getting sickening cwillete you should be Grossman's publicist/apologist. This player was rammed down our collective throats for 6 long years and if Jerry A. had any stones at all he should have been out of here. You can spread the crap anyway you want it but I don't care where he goes he will still be 6 feet tall, slow, a poor decision maker with small hands. But his shortcomings should have been seen by the dork that drafted and played him. That Super Bowl year yeah he rode the bravado of the defense and the momentum of the team but he never was one to create on his own and the defense when it was great bailed him out. Now the defense is on a downward spiral they cannot afford Grossman, also they cannot afford the potential for division with him prowling the sidelines. And the booing is the only thing this Angelo regime has developed. But you whiny a$$ fans who feel sorry for Grossman look at your paycheck and guess what his is, if he can't take it he is a bigger chump than I thought he is getting big money and this is still America were we have the right to voice our displeasure.

I feel sorry for Rex too ! I also understand the fans frustration,21 different QB's during Favre's tenure in Green Bay. Perhaps if the Bears hired a capable QB coach and actually DEVELOPED a QB instead of throwing average or under developed players behind a pourous O-line, we would have the QB this city deserves. If you feel the nesscessity to BOO, I suggest you take the drive up to Lake Forest and BOO Jerry Angelo, Lovie Smith and the rest of the PIN HEADS who are responsable for this mess !!! I probably won't live another 20 years waiting for another Super Bowl appearance, so all we can do as Bears fans is suffer through another 4-12 season and wait for the next poor chump Jerry proclaims QB of the future, so we can start BOOING him too. Good luck Rex,at least you'll get the chance to play for a "professional" football team .

Please do not make any comparison between Peyton and Rex, there is none.

As long as we're on the subject of booing:

As much as I appreciate the talents of players like Randy Moss, and T.O. my biggest boos go out to these showboating, "Look at me!" players; and their name is legion.

If I were a head coach, my first speech in the training camp locker room would address this issue. I'd let them know that having a big ego isn't a bad thing. But putting it on display at every opportunity for all the world to see, is.

If I never see another sack dance or choreographed touchdown display I won't feel that I've missed anything. Give me guys like Barry Sanders that hand the ball to the ref or simply lay it down on the turf .... guys that behave as though they've been there before, and are more than likely to get there again.

When a defensive end comes around the entire front four and pile drives the QB into the turf, I don't want to watch him thumping his chest and preening; I'd rather see him reach down and help the guy to his feet. That's what sportsmanship is about.

And sportsmanship is more than earning the respect of your fans and fellow players. It's also about earning and deserving the respect of your opponents. Why give them the motive and motivation to hate you, and therefore raise their game?

"Humble" is a word that many professional athletes do not know the meaning of, let alone it's spelling.

Now that Rex has been firmly demoted, even Lovie Smith can't mess this up, so there is no more reasons to boo Rex. He's just another journeyman backup QB getting ready to make his Steve DeBerg like trip across the NFL cities.

But If I see Rex start another game for the Bears, and there are NO OTHER QUARTERBACKS ON THE BENCH, you better believe I would boo my head off.

STICKMAN ... Stick It!!!

Grossman is an NFL QB as is Peyton Manning. Rex has no offensive line nor any proven receivers. If Rex had an O-line, maybe the running game would have worked and they could not blitz on every down.

Rex was setup to fail. He proved in the SB year that he could succeed. Do you remember who was the NFL's Offensive player of the Month for September in 2006? ... That's right!!! It was Rex Grossman!!!

Football is a team sport for all of you ignoramuses out there. One player cannot be expected to do it all without help. Do any of you actually think Manning or Brady would be successful if they were always being pressured...oh, wait a minute... isn't that why Brady lost last year's Super Bowl?

Booing Rex is classless and ignorant...Chicago fans are supposed to be more sophisticated than that.

Boo-birds that hide behind the old "he's playing like crap" excuse need to get over their denial and find a new hobby. So the guy couldn't nail down the starting job; he's not the worst QB in the history of the game, not by a long shot. His stats -- while erratic -- were overall quite decent, and his W-L record respectable. And just as you can't blame every INT or sack on the QB, you can't even blame good fortune for those stats because he put up average numbers winning games as a rookie on a reeeally crummy Jauron squad. More than that, the Bears' receiving squad has been just as faceless and uninspiring each year he has played, but still he piled up deep TDs. Where's the appreciation for all his hard work with little support? If you're going to boo, you need "hypocrite" stamped on your forehead.

My brother and I talked about this last night:

(me) "Rex doesn't deserve that treatment now that he's a career back-up. He's been nothing but a class act. Why doesn't Alex Smith get this sort of resentment in San Fran?"

(bro) "Smith had the good fortune not to play for Chicago."

Classless, Bears fans. Just classless.

ahh well as the old saying goes ignorance is bliss
Rex deserves to start, but oh well let's just boo him instead. we booed into getting Griese, so why no boo so Orton will stick?

Here's your headline

"Rex to Rush"

kind of ironic he would play for the arena team named after what knocked him out of the NFL..lmao..and be the holder for Paul Edinger

priceless

I think parking for the RexWagon at AllState is cheaper, tho

Rex had the choice this year to choose a different team or stay with our Rex fans in Chicago. What did he choose? Yea he sucks (I boo him also), but last preseason game was uncalled for. He never complains, points fingers at teammates and has the balls to face the music when he has a crappy game. What else do you need from him? Would Urlacher do the same? (go to foxsports…. for the answer).

I hope he’s out of here next season too, but what’s with kicking a dead dog?

Neckbeard = Hitman

The Bushy Knoll is a GENIUS..

nobody ever talks about that..

THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE BUT PEYTON MANNING WAS WINNING THAT SUPERBOWL.

The Bears were just the Washington Generals in that game.

We coulda had Sid Luckman back there...and it wouldnt have mattered.

Anyone who says Rex lost the game is just a fool. We never had a chance.

The NFL, the Refs, Madison Ave. everyone wanted Manning and the Colts to win that game.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again: Chicago treated this kid like warm dog crap. He's had some bad games, and he's had some good games. For some strange reason, all people seem to remember are the bad ones. Rex wasn't a good QB. But he's not a horrible QB either. He's shown, if given some time he could be decent. Its so maddening to me that some Chicago fans can be so small minded. This whole "Chicago fans hate Rex Grossman" was media driven and all of a sudden it was cool to bash the kid. I don't care how much money he makes, No one desserves that kind of treatment. You don't see him on the news beating up his wife, fighting/ killing dogs, driving drunk, and using drugs. He never blamed teammates for his failures, He's always been respectable to the media (although the media crusified him when he called them "ignorant" before the SB), and he had a pretty good year in 2006. Compare his 2006 stats with Eli Mannings 2007/08 stats. They almost mirror each other. However, Rex lost the SB so he sucks, Eli won so he's all of a sudden an Elite QB. FOOTBALL IS A TEAM SPORT!! If the line don't block the QB will look bad. If the WR half-**# a route (Berrian), and the ball gets picked, the QB gets the blame. I'm not saying Rex was an great player, but booing him like he's the reason the Bears are stuck in neutral is just stupid.
