Has anybody heard one piece of good news from Bears' camp?
The quarterbacks apparently look awful, neither is stepping up to claim the starting spot. I still think it's going to be Rex. Orton just looks good in comparison, but I don't think he's a legit starting quarterback. Rex can be, but he's inconsistent.
Matt Forte may be the lone bright spot, at least on offense. He apparently is justifying the optimism in him, which is huge. But with that offensive line, he may be in for a long season.
And what about the receiver position? Who's No. 1? Marty Booker? Wow. You think the box will be filled with defenders looking for Forte and looking to destroy the QB?
And what is with Lovie Smith not wanting to take questions about the QB competition? What does he want talk about?
At least the defense looks like it will be strong.
The QB thing isn't important anymore. Nobody has been able to knock Rex off the mountain, though many have tried. I'd start Rasheid Davis and the other guy at WR. Marty Mar can be water boy for this season.
Placing emphasis on football training camp is like forcasting a baseball team's path after the first week in intra-squad games at spring training.
No, the Bears are not in a good way right now as they have as many players with question marks on their helmets as orage C's. But the Vikings are one fluke play away from having Adrian Peterson go down for the season, it looks like the Packers are going to rely on a brand new starting QB in Rodgers, and the Lions are still the Lions.
I'm not saying I like the Bears' prospects right now, but they do play in the NL West of the NFL. And anyway, this season is all about the Browns, baby!
It's only been a week and a half into training camp, so for me, it's nothing to get overly optimistic or paranoid about anything yet until at least the 2nd preseason game is played.
Rex vs. Orton... they are what we have so if no one likes either of them, then don't watch the Bears this season, period. I still say that either guy can do a decent job if they have a strong surrounding cast of offensive linemen and receivers. The tight ends at least look strong. I'm one of the few who say that the offensive line is the backbone of the offense. The Bears' offense will only go as far as this O-Line takes them. If the line fails again, then everyone on offense will be the object of ridicule again from Quarterback down to the third string wide receiver, that's the bottom line.
As for Lovie Smith, I was already opposed to the Bears signing him to an extension after the Super Bowl. Just not a big fan of his, period. I wanted the Bears to aggessively pursue Bill Cowher back when he resigned from the Steelers, but too late now, we're 'stuck' with Lovie. Blah. It's not like the Bears would pay top dollar for a head coach anyway. See the Chicago Bulls and you'll know what I'm talking about.
Love the defense.. best part of the team. Just stay healthy, that's all.
Orton just looks good in comparison, but I don't think he's a legit starting quarterback.
****
How are you to become a starting quarterback when knowing regardless of how well you performed, the job is going to the other guy? For whatever the reasons - which are too many to list - I don't get the impression Kyle gets to work with the first team as much as he should. The head coach, management and quarterback coach probably don't work with Klye as much as with Rexinstein, either. I don't know why he was resign, I don't understand why Kyle was not given the JOB TO LOSE, at least once. I mean damn, how many times do Rex have to lose it before trying someone else.
Blankety-blank-blanking Chicago Bears!
Oh well I guess it's better than Olin Kruetz handing the ball off to himself
I recall, vividly, the 13-3 Bears of Dick Jauron. Now Roman, you know darn well that was no 13-3 football team. That was a 'smoke and mirrors', 'everything went right', 'ball bounced their way' team that could have been easily 8-8.
That said, I think, with a 'HEALTHY' group of safeties (no names; I've been the kiss of death too often) we may again have the opportunistic defense that can overcome a wailing offense and stick the Viqueens right next to their counterparts, the Twinkees, as bridesmaids.
I really feel a strong year coming from the 'D', and anybody banking on a surprise from the 'O' has a better chance of hearing a swearing match from the Dali Lama and The Pope.
Rasheed Davis will be the easy pick as number one receiver (perfect practice makes perfect), the offensive line will be better than last year (how could it NOT?), Matt Forte will be solid (what more could you ask?), and Gould will kick 60 yarders consistently (therefore no blame will become of the quarterbacks after CONSTANTLY blowing field position on Hester returns).
Actually, I think our achilles this year will be Ron Turn(ov)er. Yes folks, that's TURNOVER. Anytime you have a coordinator who hurts your offense at such a three and out clip, especially inside our own twenty, it rates as a couple turnovers. Think about it?
Lovie ain't taking questions because the job is Grossman's. He doesn't want to admit it because 75 percent of the fans will burn their tickets. The other 25 percent are in the Steak & Shake parking lot with Julie B trying to fix the Wrecks bandwagon.
There is no reason to be optimistic about the Bears this year unless Orton plays.
Oh, two more things: Lovie is the head coach and Turner is the offensive coord.
Oh, one final thought: Angelo, in all his years as GM with multiple teams, has yet to resolve the QB situation on any of them. He always finds his pet (ie Grossman) and simply can't let go.
Crap, the fall is beginning to look pretty boring on Sundays.
Why tell the world Rex had the good fortune of winning a coin flip to go first in camp and then not talk about how either QB is doing? That kind of exposes you a little, unless of course the coin flip was a media stunt or a mere gesture of good faith, but I don't think any of us are buying the supposed QB competition thing at all. We've heard it before, we'll hear it again, we'll tow the company line until we're told otherwise: Rex is our quarterback.
Seedy, I love you man, but haven't we had our fun with the whole "Wrecks" thing? Maybe Roman can set it up so any mention of "Wrecks" will get your comment booted. The first person who ever said it made a funny, now it's just annoying.

I agree! If it wasn't for Devin Hester and the Defense!
jrossi...just made sure he will never be a part of the PitVipers...thats for sure.
Anonymous sez: "Oh well I guess it's better than Olin Kruetz handing the ball off to himself."
He'd just make a bad snap, or fumble it.
Six of one ...
Edgar, Anthony, and Seedy pretty much covered all the bases here.
I too have never been a Lovie Smith fan, and he has done nothing to change my mind. The man is totally obtuse.
"Rex is our quarterback", "Cover Two, Cover Two, Cover Two ...."
He's like a hamster on a wheel. He goes into the locker room at the thirty minute mark with a 17 point deficit, and comes out with the exact same game plan that dug him that half-time hole.
No adjustments whatsoever.
And the defense? Buddy Babich had as much to do with it's decline as did the injuries. He's toe's the company line (COVER TWO!!!) and doesn't use nearly enough blitz packages.
Marty Booker as the #1 wide-out is a frickin' joke. 'Nuff said.
Grossman / Orton? ... I'm beginning to think that they both suck.
Ron Turner? .......... Don't get me started.
I'm a Bears fan, and I love professional football, but I'm not too optimistic about the upcoming season.
6 and 10 looks about right to me.
Julie B:
Hmmmm.... sounding pretty thin skinned on the Rex Mobile these days. Okay, I won't refer to him as Wrecks. How about the G-Man? That's close to "G-Men", you know, the Feds, and they don't seem to do anything right, either.
One final thought... our defense SHOULD look strong against our offense. Problem is, we don't play our offense during the regular season.
Villano,
EXACTLY!! Babich is as big a part of the problem as any injury. I think Lovie purposefully hires these idiots so that he feels like he's the smartest person in the room. Although, your 6-10 prediction is probably realistic, I think that it might be a tad optimistic.
The Bears are going to kick everyone's ass this year. The O-line will tear opposing D-lines to shreds, give up no sacks, and create holes the size of New Hampshire. Forte will run through defenses like a freaking mack truck on crack cocaine. The D will kick everyone's ass so bad that half the teams will forfeit by the second quarter. Rex will throw for twelve touchdowns a game. Bears go 16-0 with a 800-10 point differential, the only points coming on a 60-yard, wind-blown field goal and a fluke touchdown that the Bears let the Vikings score after knocking out all their quarterbacks and causing their coach to pass out and nearly die of humiliation. Bears win the Super Bowl 89-0 over the Patriots, sacking Tom Brady 78 times and holding the New England offense to minus-608 yards.
GO BEARS
YEAH.....JIMMY B...NEED A LIFT?
I'm with Jimmy. Why does everyone think they know what is going to happen? History? Why is everyone so negative? What was the Bears pre-season record two years ago? How about in 85? You play to win the game! None of you nasayers will come back in January and say I was wrong.

"There is no reason to be optimistic about the Bears this year unless Orton plays."
And how many superbowls has Orton started in again?
First I read that the Packers were contemplating the insane move of dealing Farve with-in the division, but now they've come up with a brilliant ploy.
My guess is that while the Pack was ready to move on, Farve not only had second thoughts, but was also reluctant to leave $12 million a season sitting on the table, which is what Green Bay would have had to pay him for two years unless they decided to cut him. Not wanting Farve as a distraction during what will obviously rough transition period, while also not wanting to have to pay him all that money to ride the pine, they've happened upon a cunning compromise.
He gets to remain on the payroll as a Packer for Life, and a marketing magnet, his record of consecutive starts remains in tact, and should Rodgers falter or become injured, they have a made to order insurance policy already on the payroll.
Goodell has probably already given both parties assurances that should this come to pass, Farve's reinstatement would only be a phone call away.
O will be historically bad.
The D is over-rated. I really don't get why people think they will be top 10. Does anyone remember the RB from the Saints (who couldn't play for U of I) tear up the D last year?
At least my Sundays are free..5 or 6 wins tops. O/U in vegas I heard was 7.5 - EASY money.
Asking a true Bears Fan for Life...if there is a reason to get excited about an upcoming season...is like asking a Mountain Climber ..."why he has to climb the mountain?"
answer...
BECAUSE ITS THERE
this is how I feel every year at the begining of the season...
I am excited because it is there.
The start of a new season is like a first date or that first day of school....it is like opening up christmas presents, blowing out birthday candles and losing your virginity all rolled into one.
A new season embodies the hope and the new beginings and washes aways all the sadness and dissapointment of the year before.
A new season is WHY a Bears fan exsists.
If we cant get excited for a new season, then I would argue that its not the Season that needs the fan viagra, its the fan that needs to get an implant. Not the other way around!

no...there is no reason for optimism with regards to the Bears. In the past two seasons we have dealt away or let go of key offensive players, and done NOTHING to remedy our quarterback situation.
We are the laughing stock of the league. I can look over several teams rosters and find a second or third stringer QB that is better then the bums we have. Kyle Orton??? Are you guys serious?? Optimism?? Defenses will force Orton to throw deep and we all know what that means. We lose before the game even begins...with Orton out there it will be virtually IMPOSSIBLE to run the ball...there are going to be 9 defenders within 8 yds of the line...EVERY SNAP!!!
This is starting to feel and smell like the cubs/kerry wood decade long experiment..."Well eventually he will win 15 games..."
Meanwhile all the lambs will continue to show up...
You cant point fingers at Lovie or Turner...this, along with most chicago sports teams problems, starts and ends at the top. Angelo should be drawn and quartered...
oh and Rick...im not negative bro...im a realist...take a look around the league smart boy and tell me you are still optimistic...we arent bad...we are the laughing stock of football...big difference.
hey seedy!! You should be banned from this site bro...i dont know what you are smokin but send some down to texas
back in texas....you smoke too much as it is. and you dont want any of what seedy smokes...its far from sensi' (get it...SEEDY??)
backintexas...whats up kid?
nada nada bculz...just exorcising my chi town sports demons...this is theraputic...
I could tell from our conversations the other day, that you needed some FCP in your life.
I would introduce you to Roman, but he rarely hangs out in here anymore....he has important things to do, like holding Cue Cards for Marrioti on ATH.
