Commit to the Blackhawks

Embrace the Blackhawks, people.

BY RICKY O'DONNELL

Hey guys, remember me? What is going on? Kyle Koster and I will be steering this vessel while The Blogfather takes a much needed week off, so sit back and hunker down or whatever. We will also be patrolling the comments so don't get too crazy on us. I would like to point out, however, that jabs at esteemed Cub-centric commenter stuckinwisconsin are not only allowed but encouraged. Making fun of Roman is of course fair game as well, as we doubt he'll be reading while he's vacationing. Did you guys know he loves U2!? I couldn't even make something like that up.

Now, on to business...

Is anyone else extremely pumped up for Blackhawks season? Yeah, it's still a few months away- and by the time it starts we will all surely be engaged in watching Rex Grossman consistently airmail Marty Booker- but I'm getting excited for the Hawks already. In fact, this is the first time in my life I've ever been awaiting hockey season.

I hear from people my father's age all the time that the Hawks used to be a big deal in this town, but that hasn't been the case for a long time. Well the Hawks returned to relevance last season, and everyone expects them to only improve after a stellar offseason. Seriously, this has to be one of the most exciting offseasons in recent Chicago sports history. First they sign two stud free agents, then announce the outdoor game at Wrigley, and now we have their first ever fan convention to top it all off.

The outdoor game New Years Day against the hated Red Wings at Wrigley will be the coolest event in Chicago sports in 2009. That game is going to be the cat's pajamas, no doubt about it. I fully expect Wrigley to be jammed packed, regardless of the temperature, and the game should serve as the Hawks re-entry into the NHL elite.

So go stitch the captain's C on your Jonathan Toews jersey and learn how to correctly pronounce James Wisniewski. Commit to the the....oh, never mind.

Ricky, I am so glad to see you back. Did you see the last posts from Roman and Kyle...one was a UFC and another about shakes on a plane.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................OK....now that I read your topic....excitement about the Blackhawks and a a pass to Booker....hmmm....this must be 2003. PHEWWWWW...I was dreaming! You aren't gonna believe this...but I thought I really was in the future....not too far ahead...Circa 2008. You are not going to believe who won the World series in 2005!!!! I ain't telling. Darn, I should have gotten a glance at some winning powerball numbers when I was there. BTW, stay away from the Suntimes website....say...oh... from 2007/2008. Yes Nick and Jessica broke up.

look...my 'captcha' letters are dyefxy...If I was a chick..that would be my License plate. Woohoo Jermaine Dye-hope he plays in CHicago one day

I would also like to point out that I too love U2 (pre-achtung baby)...and the Hawks were a big deal...I accidentally saw my very first porn trying to watch the Hawks and Minnesota(Northstars Ricky) all scrambled on sportsvision...signals got crossed or something....Dino Ciccarelli scored ........ as well as the vaccuum cleaner salesman.

Great news about the Hawks retiring #3 for Pierre Pilote and Keith Magnuson. Now, let's hope the Bears correct (2) wrongs and retire #99 for Dan Hampton and #50 for Mike Singletary.

The Bulls retire #2 for Norm Van Lier.

The Cubs retire #31 for Fergie Jenkins and Greg Maddux.

The Sox #14 for Bill Melton.
