Well, this puts his U.S. Open win in a more compelling perspective. Tiger Woods has a torn knee ligament, and some reports say he has a stress fracture.
Suddenly, that U.S. Open performance goes down in history as one of the bravest sporting feats (non-contact sport) in history.
Wow.
Not to sound cruel or anything but I hope that this means that I do not have to see any more golf coverage for the rest of the year since he is the only golf story the media seems to care about anyway.
Sorry. I just find golf to be about as exciting as watching paint dry or Lovie Smith trying to explain why Rex is our quarterback.
It might be a non-contact sport, but every time he made contact with the ball (except for putts) I bet it hurt like He//.
This would be like winning Wimbledon with a broken toe or a sprained ankle, or winning the Indy 500 with a broken finger AND a fractured wrist.
At least he can afford to take the time off.
Makes me wonder how easily Tiger would have won had his knee not been bothering him. Rocco was the sentimental favorite among alot of the people, me included, but Tiger's determination and will to win really impress me. I just hope he didn't do any permanent damage to himself.
Roman, I just wanna understand the dilemna.
Nicklaus (the golden bear) or whatever, when he entered a tournament, everyone wanted to see him win, he was the best golfer of my teenage years. There was no Greg Kite is the sentimental favorite, no Palmer, Arnold...only Jack.
Now with Tiger it's...I wanna see every other golfer beat Tiger. Tiger Woods is the best at what he does. He is the best golfer, in the way we know the sport, ever. 14 majors and barely 30, c'mon now. I remember when people said he was overrated because he didn't win every major. Was Jack overrated, and hell, he only won 18 over his whole career? Palmer? Arnold? Kite? Woods is better than all of them, but he's overrated.
What's really goin on over here? I'll answer it in a later post.
Roman responds: I don't remember what it was like with Jack, but I don't sense everyone wants to see Tiger lose. I think 90 percent of people tune in to see him win. He's the only reason I watch.
Some people are turned off by his histrionics (fist pumps, yelling), but that's normal.
And yes, some people don't like people of other races.
Tiger is most definitely right up there with the greatest athletes of all time. No matter how you feel about golf, if you're a sports fan you can't help but be intrigued by him. I agree with most of the names in the other thread about the best athletes of our generation, but Tiger's mental game is better than anyone else's, hands down. He's so focused and tough that he beats many golfers before they even tee off. I've never seen anything like it.
Who are the kids gonna watch Cuss and Swear and Throw clubs when things arent going their way now??
ahhh...leave it to the English to tell ya "what's really going on"
wow my butt
I wouldn't of ever thought Tiger needed a Fox news story..
and speaking of Fox
Terry Fox...that's the definition of brave
He's so focused and tough that he beats many golfers before they even tee off. I've never seen anything like it.

MJ?? Maybe you missed him.....let me describe...6'6 moved, like a panther, had not only the rest of the NBA on mental shut down, he also lit up every TV screen, movie, cereal box, shoe, and tshirt for the entire 90's.
Ive seen mental toughness like tigers...oh ...ive seen it.
The Wall Street Journal recently had a panel of experts find the greatest athlete in the World today, among men, and Tiger Woods didn't even crack the Top Ten.
Five days and 91 holes of golf with a torn ACL though show this man has the competitive nature rivaled by no other. That in itself is noteworthy.
Okay, you're right. MJ had it too. But not on the golf course!
Annika?

Jordan likes playing golf, and gambles heavily on his matches.
He gets his a$$ kicked on a regular basis, and has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to win at a sport that Tiger rarely loses in.
This whole "Best Athlete" thing gets somewhat confusing here.
Playing basketball, Jordan would clean Wood's clock.
But put them on a golf course, and we're talking about something totally different.
Both sports require an "athleticism" of a different kind.
Roman, I was playing the race card on blacks as well as non-blacks.
Chuck....one never plays the Race Card....the Race Card plays you!!!
MJ was a complete DESPOT in the league. He is the only person I know to have a Jersey retired in an opposing teams stadium. And All of them could have easily done that. His nickname was money, and the great Pat Riley once said that nobody could win because "He wouldn't let them". Mike ruled the entire decade with an iron fist! Retired coaches and players with no Championship! That whole block of time is refered to as the Jordan Dynasty!
Roman is right, we all love to see Tiger win. But even with that and how great he is, there is a legitimate 50% chance that Tiger is going to lose. But with Mike, there was what RILEY said....
I just got the CHILLS keith...
Hey Romie...does Federer drop a notch on the Tiger scale?
