Talked to a friend of mine with the Bulls yesterday who said you guys better slow down on this Doug Collins stuff.
All I know is all three Chicago papers and ESPN were quoting sources Thursday saying this is going to happen.
And my friend isn't saying it's not going to happen, but what if it doesn't?
Bulls better have a great Plan B, cuz this will be even worse than missing out on D'Antoni, just because at some point a lot of sources were telling a lot of people this was a done deal.
Sucks to be a chicago fan now....even with all this winning, we are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Hope Jerry doesn't live 200 yards away from Doug, too!
Come on Roman did you expect the announcement right after the trophy ceremony Thursday night? If it doesn't happen is it really Pax's blunder or is the media to blame for over hyping a possiblity and causing Collins to reconsider whether or not he really wants to go through the rigors of coaching in Chicago again? I for one would like to see it happen but did not expect an official announcement before Monday at the earliest.
J.R. has not yet scheduled a full frontal lobotomy for Doug.
Such an operation would be the only thing (other than around $20 million smackers) that might possibly make him willing to submit to the torture of coaching this team of lazy boned cry babies.
Just a guess, could be it was a go to hire Collins until they got around to talking about who would be the number one pick. Collins may be leaning one way and Paxdorf the other. If Paxdorf get their way on the pick, they may lose the coach they want. Collins isn't going to want to coach a team full of complimentary players, and then draft and be on the hook to develop someone who plays the most complimentary position on the court. Especially when the bulls don't have anyone they can trade to fill all their other holes, so why take the job?
**And my friend isn't saying it's not going to happen, but what if it doesn't?**
I like Ty Corbin...
The mere idea that the Bulls need Doug, more than Doug needs the Bulls is f'ing ludicris!!!
I hope this blog has caused him to re-think taking the job, cause it will be like this all year long and even worse...once the Emotional Roller Coaster that is a season under Doug commences, there wont be enough Memory on the SunTimes Servers to handle the amount of negative posts, and Roman, you will have to hire like three full time CENSORS!!
Arturo may be onto something. Doug might not want to coach this team if it makes a number one pick that he doesn't believe will work. He just might want an answer to that question before signing on the bottom line.
Romo - quit trying to pull other papers into the boat. As your prior blog said, Hanley broke the story right? So he's either the hero or the goat.
Isn't this Joe Cowley and the now infamous Willis/Cabrera trade all over again? It doesn't matter who says what. All that matters is what the ST reported and whether it winds up becoming reality. Check the sources...check both sides. Like the Cabrera trade, nobody (mainly Cowley) bothered to check the Marlins side of things.
A few days ago, there was a lot of chest bumping with the supposed Hanley story. Not it's "other papers and espn confirmed it" when things may not be what they seemed.
Roman resonds: JT, first of all, it looks like the announcement will happen early this week. I knew Brian's sources, that's why we went with it.
And yes, as the blog the other day says, Brian had it first that it was definitely going to happen. But other papers went with it, too, so I'm not sure what your point is.
Or maybe the Bulls are going to botch this just like everything else that have done since trading Elton Brand.
Really tired of the NBA coach recycle program. What the Bulls don't need is another Skiles. Has he ever been anything other than an avereage coach? Great announcer not a great fit
Yeah, we don't need another Dave McGinnis fiasco of the Bears with this coach-searching process and this time, no excuses and stories will save Reinsdorf and Pax. However, with the Western Conference Finals finishing up just last Wednesday, I didn't expect an official announcement on Collins until later this week. I figured they all had to iron out contract details, but the sooner they can all get this over with, the better. Doug still has to meet up with the players and the assistants, if not already, and then help prepare for the nba draft with the workouts and interviews. It's a lot to get ready for and it's a pivotal offseason for the Bulls if they are serious in becoming playoff conteders again quickly this upcoming season.
As for being cautious or slowing down with all the hype, why let up now? Help bring the sport back to the town and to the state! You want people to get excited again so that it will give someone like Doug a tougher decision to walk away. It's ridiculous that someone within the Bulls' organization probably leaked the news out in the first place and now they want us to slow down? Either way you look at it, if Doug changes his mind last minute, Bulls management is going to get ripped apart anyway! Telling us to slow down is an example of why this conservative organization always gets pushed around or played around in negotiations.
Go Bulls!
Hope the announcement is Tuesday, and I hope the Bulls draft Rose.
where's that new topic?????
Bulls and Miami may trade Dwane Wade for Hinrich and first Pick!
(So says my sources)
Well Flip Saunders just got fired. Maybe they should have taken care of this Collins thing right away or not said anything at all.
I think its all about money and stuff like assistants. Doesnt matter who Paxson takes, the Bulls are instantly better. Doug is smarter than that and so is Pax.
you give too much credit keith...believe me, Doug is THAT Petty!
His Pettiness will cost him if he is not careful! We dont need any primadonnas. Humble yourself Doug and sign the friggin contract.
Roman responds: I don't think Doug is the holdup. It's Reinsdorf.
Wow. I forgot all about that. There was a past there. Interesting indeed...
Way to break that story Hanley!!!
Doug has a track record of playing mind games with players, using team whipping boys, playing favs, he is very devisive and will turn the team against each other.
He did it to my HS team....he did it to the Bulls w/Jordan
He did it in Detroit...he did it in Washington...HE WILL DO IT AGAIN.
Doug tried to get me kicked off my HS team a year after Chris left, because I said we were more of a team and harder to stop without Collins TO A LOCAL REPORTER. Doug lost it, we had to have a team meeting. BJ (who was dougs college roomate) was our coach, he called the team meeting and yelled at me for tarnishing chris's track record. WTF...he was already at DUKE fing cheerleaders and having the time of his life...why did Doug care so much what we said in the papers...
WE WERE MORE OF A TEAM AFTER CHRIS LEFT..WE WERE HARDER TO STOP. Proof in the pudding was we went 1 game farther in the state playoffs WITHOUT HIM.
The Collins family also accused me of saying racist statments, when in reality it came out that it was Chris that said it and he was almost kicked off the team actually. ASK JIM BLOCK A.D. AT NEW TRIER. THIS IS A FACT.
Doug also pulled gave my fathr a ride home from a Bulls game once in his Limo...and the cute little stewardess in the limo, wasnt Dougs wife, and the MOTHER FER had the balls to talk S about me to MY DAD, WHILE HE HAD A MISTRESS IN THE CAR WITH HIM?
SHOULD I GO ON?
Ok Someone... well obviously not all sports celebrities are saints. There are always 2 different sides to every coin. Remember, this is not an industry of high morals. Don't think that the other coaching names mentioned in the Bulls hiring process have their own skeleton stories that the regular public doesn't know about either. If your stories are true, then sorry to hear that you had to go through all that. However, I've heard plenty of other negative stories about Collins as well, but fact of the matter is that he knows basketball and he is a teacher of the game. Our current Bulls team needs to learn how to play SMART basketball. Talent is not the biggest issue with our team. It's their mindset, their chemistry, their focus, their identity, their lack of leadership, etc. They need an experienced NBA coach to help guide the team. The head coach is but one part of the solution, however, but this team absolutely cannot go through another assistant-type coach with no head coaching experience. That's recipe for another down season and an indication of rebuilding again. So take it for what it is, you want the team to rebuild? Go the assistant route. You want to try to make it work with a #1 pick to mesh in with most of the regulars intact? I say go with Collins.
ok..you won me over edgar...really..if you think he can do the job, id be willing to give him a second shot.
Roman..feel free to delete my comments!
i actually want to recant my statement about the DC...please delete it from the blog... i may still be able to score season tickets!!
