Orlando vs. Ozzie - Full Court Press

Orlando vs. Ozzie

| | Comments (11)

I'm loving this White Sox drama, and I like that Ken Williams even sees the humor in it.

I can't recall this happening before, where a player seems willing to isolate himself from his teammates so blatantly.

Cabrera isn't talking to my paper because Joe Cowley broke the story about Cabrera calling the press box to complain about plays that were ruled errors. Cabrera is a free agent after this season, and errors could cost $$$. And Cabrera is ticked that Ozzie talked to Joe about his unhappiness with the situation.

Interestingly, Joe found out what Cabrera was saying to the other paper because another Sox player told Joe. Here's what the other paper had.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out the rest of the season. As long as OC stays hot at the plate, it's not likely to boil over. But I don't see it going away any time soon.

Who?

Roman-Can you dig up the video of the plays in question regarding Cabrera calling the press box gripe? It would be interesting to have us take a look at them and decide whether he had any right to complain or not in the first place. Might be a fun 'web-only' feature.

Roman responds: Hey Gregg. I'll see what I can do, but MLB hasn't been very cooperative with this stuff. Got any good deals at Artisan Cellars?

If Gregg can't get you any deals from his wine shop, I'll gladly teach you how to make Absinthe. It's an intocicating beverage; to say the least.

It beats the living daylights out of any wine on the market, but the problem is that if all of our professional teams take a dump this year you might just wind up like Van Gogh after drinking too much of it.

And that wormwood ingredient isn't easy to come by.

Stats = $$$ in MLB, so I can't fault Cabby for thinking Ozzie should call the press box to overturn his errors. I think they both agree it's not something Cabby should be doing himself.

I'm just surprised at how easy it was for Cabby to get them overturned. Maybe it's something he discovered early in his career & why he's so adamant about it. Maybe his GG's are not as deserving as we first thought.

as far as i am concerned let this bum go. this is the craziest thing i have ever heard of calling the press box IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME. i am sure some guys call after the game but during it is crazy. if he wants to worry about his stats maybe he should hit a little. who cares if he goes else where next year the guy is a clown. maybe this is why no team ever keeps him for an extended period of time.

I suppose there are sox fans who know what you are talking about, for the rest of us just one more example of Suntimes editors missing the mood of the times and focusing on stories and topics of marginal interest. Good approach if your goal is self obsolesence. Give us some more sox topics please, soon you'll make even the trib look good. Guess jealousy and parochialism trump objectivity and professionalism as journalistic standards decline. Go sox! Soon we'll all be reading USA Today.

CUBS WIN ANOTHER EXTRA INNING GAME WITH NO MENTION ON FCP, WHILE MULTIPLE SOX THREADS BARELY FETCH DOUBLE DIGIT POSTS!!

Orlando better go sit down and shutup before Ozzie pulls out his championship ring and blinds him.

Honestly, can't we pick something better to talk about? John Danks is having an absolute monster of a breakout season, 57-year-old Jose Contreras is having an unpredictable resurgence, and Gavin the Magician is defying logic every 5th game. Nick Swisher looks as if the power he showed in Oakland has completely been removed from his body. Paul Konerko is turning into a great parlor trick to argue against people who don't believe PECOTA is worth a wooden nickel. The bullpen has beaten the odds and has turned into a stopping force. Joe Crede has recently been screwing up in late-game situations and no one is looking for fear the image of him being a superclutch human being will be purged from their minds.

Side note: I just looked this up, this is incredibly interesting.

Joe Crede, 2005-2007: .262/.306/.458
Joe Crede, 2005-2007, Close and Late: .266/.309/.458

My point is, Roman, while I understand it's your blog, there are about a billion and one way more interesting things happening with the Chicago White Sox than Orlando Cabrera complaining about what is and isn't an error. This is what's wrong with the media. The most national coverage an incredibly interesting 2008 White Sox team has gotten has revolved around blow-up dolls in the clubhouse. Cabrera complaining about scorekeeping falls into the same category of needlessly excessively publicized things.

Noles:

I'm right there with you.

Just like it's "All about the Benjamins" in many aspects of life; in any sports it's "All about the record"!

When my team (the Sox) has the best record in major league baseball, I don't want to spend a whole lot of my time reading about all of the negative crap that the media is able to drudge up, and propogate for days on end.

Gimme a winner anytime ... and talk all the crap you'd like about the losers. (100 years of Cubbie frustration?)

Noles, 100% behind ya. Quentin's on fire. In first place beating on Cleveland, and the hot topic is a rent a SS. C'mon Roman, give us some meat to eat.
