Great weekend

| | Comments (10)

It was a successful weekend for Chicago sports, and I have to admit I hardly watched any of it.

Planted flowers on my balcony on Saturday. Thanks to Laurie for valuable tips with the vines, which compliment the flowers brilliantly. (Thank God they survived the hurricane-force winds and freezing temps our lovely city experienced)

Then went to see the "Hopper Collection" at the Art Institute and finished the day with some live country music at "Bernice's" on the South Side. Great little place in Bridgeport near The Cell. You have to be buzzed in. Great beer collection, including my new favorite - Peroni. Laurie's friend Joe and his band were great (and I usually hate country music).

Went bowling Sunday and nearly broke my personal best of 145, but choked on the last ball and finished with 143.

Love this city. Saw "Jersey Boys," and it's a great, great show.

I was a little bummed I was going to miss Big Z vs. Big Unit, but was glad the weather intervened. Although I did feel bad for the fans who braved that weather to see that matchup and then it didn't happen.

Feel bad for the Bulls beat reporters going through a coaching search. Nothing worst. I started a poll today at www.suntimes.com/sports to see who you'd like to see be the new Bulls coach, and the early favorite is "I don't care, I've lost interest." Go vote

And get ready for that race Sunday. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to the "Run and Fun" entry and write Pat.

Hey, didn't the White Sox play, too? Took 2 of 3 in Seattle, where they have only won once in the past 2 years.

145 Roman, c'mon man, there are 300 pins for the taking, and at your best you can't even take out half of them?

Won't be going to that place, black men get buzzed in, but will not get buzzed out in bridgeport!(lol)

More on topic than my last post; I had a great weekend too.

Unfortunately none of it involved sports (unless we're including Olympic drinking preliminaries, and bedroom gymnastics) so I don't have much to contribute on this weekend's sporting activities.

And although I did do rather well during the Petron drinking qualifications, the judges weren't as kind in scoring me on the second event.

The cards they held up read: 2, 1, 1&1/2 , and minus 3.

Just read that the Bears made Robbie Gould the highest paid kicker in the NFL.

Not bad for a guy who can't kick anything longer than a 50 yarder in a domed stadium, or in an open field with a 20 MPH wind at his back.

Nice work if you can get it.

Even nicer if you can find someone dumb enough to pay you that kind of slag for doing so.

When I first read about Roman's great non-sport-watching weekend (an oxymoron if you ask me) I thought, "who cares, and wouldn't it be funny if absolutely no one commented on this thread." Then along came Mark. I have the same thought, except with Mark there's no oxy.

Oh and hey, don't forget, you need to water those flower boxes Roman. Or they might die like your interest in Chicago sports.

Roman responds: The point, my dear Pit Vipress, is that there's more to life than sports.

More to life than just sports? Hmmmm. This wouldn't have anything to do with the Sox being below .500 and the Cubs having the best record in baseball does it? I suppose this means we'll soon be getting blog topics on cooking, wines, and interior design. Ah springtime, when our thoughts turn to that greatest sport of all, and not always successfully as villano's low scores attest. Oh, one other comment, after years of weekends with turned attention, my recommendation is to not over do it, I would say, just the museum visit should be enough to put you over the top, save the garden and the play for followups.

Roman responds: Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Swami Roman. BTW, can you tell me what's up for Sunday?

Oh okay, great. Thanks. Very informative.

just a suggestion...maybe you can remove the pic with Cedric the entertainer spreading his legs right in front of our face. You know...he does have a reputation for having a ball pop out. Have a great week.

New Funniest!!!

I must be stoned, cause everyone is so flippin hilarious to me today!!
