Wood looking the part
Kerry Wood is 3-for-3 in save opportunities, and he's looking like the real deal.
But just as it was too soon to bury him after his Opening Day collapse, it's too soon to assume he's the next Mariano Rivera.
I was for Wood being the closer from the beginning. I thought he had the right stuff and mentality to be an effective closer.
The only question is his health, so we'll just wait and see.
But Cubs fans must be having fun with the look of Wood so far. It was a big liability last season for the Cubs, and it could be a strong point this year.
Especially with Carlos Marmol setting things up.

Comments
I am not at all surprized. On more than one occasion last season I said Wood should be closing and not be used as a set-up man.

Hey is this the hottest blog in Chicago? Is it true that Roman is the new Arianna Huffington? Well with those rumors I had to check back in.
I remember you touting Wood as the closer last year. And I think you were right. I think he will work out there. I still think they have to replace him in the rotation. I don't think the band-aid "until he comes back" worked last year. And since he is in the pen now, not returning to the rotation, they need to remove the band-aid and get something more permanent. And while you are at it Cubbies; get a catcher will ya.
Aloha
Roman responds: Did you have a wedding to go to this past weekend or is that coming up?
GO CUBS!

Good one today Cubs! Over .500 woo hoo!
Is it warm enough to sweat there yet?
It's at the end of this month bro, I guess they had to schedule it when the ole Cubbies were out of town to make sure everyone would attend (including the bride i guess).
Hey btw which headband is more popular the sun or the rising sun?

why doesn't anyone remember me touting anything? Afterall, I did predict the Sox would win the World..........darn can't say it.....anyway...would win the moment they signed perhaps the most under rated player of all time (Jermaine Dye). Keeping in the spirit of me being right all the time(well, at least wanting to.), I will post these gems for you to rembember me 'touting'.
1.) Kerry Wood is no closer. Neither is Marmol. Neither is Howry. Neither WAS Dempster. Perhaps after he sucks for a while, some Genius from the WSCR will say "maybe he will make it as a starter."
2.)Finding belly rolls unusually sexy, I will not be able to take
my eyes off of a 'south side beauty', thus causing the biggest fight in the history of 'the Cell' (Gateway Cell?), however after rolling out of the scrum early, I find time to enjoy a beer with Keith, who then pushes me back in until I learn my lesson. After scrapping a bit....i notice unsually smooth ,waxed legs. Finally, the day has come, I have met..................................................BCULZ!......YUCK.

I don't recall who predicted what when, but I believe it was lou who wanted a closer that could throw heat, and not some soft tossing plate nibbler. So, as long as wood holds up, that's fine, and it don't hurt none to have both a closer and a stopper, which is what marmol is now. Not many teams have one, let alone both. Once the movement on howry's fastball comes back, the cubs will have another good late inning option, with wurtz, ayre and lieber still in the wings. So that ain't half bad for a bull pen. Now if Lou can just get ramirez and soriano to play like all stars instead of all crumbs the cubbies would be in business.
I predict it.

Why did my name appear in Stucks weird Sox fantasy?
No offense...stuck...but....no matter how much I dislike someone, I would never imagine them with smooth shaved legs....that is soooo weird!>!?!?!?! What is up with that?

Hey I thought this was a Cubs blog? Haha. Those reporter pictures are usually worse than drivers licence photos. I hear that Mariotti is actually an OK looking woman in real life.
Did anyone feel like that NCAA champ game was like watching a Cub game(if you were pulling for Memphis)?

what do you mean I dislike you? My post was building up to the point that I was finally meeting Julie, but it turned out it was you and your "Arizona legs". That is all. I apologize for posting in a manner in which I had to explain it. All is good.

It was an interesting dynamic last week when the former closer (Dempster) won the game as a starter, and the former starter (Wood) saved the game as a closer. In any event, as long as Kerry can throw strikes, he will be fine.
Whatever happens, Rothschild deserves no credit whatsoever because he is a lousy pitching coach and never should have been retained by Piniella when Lou was hired as manager.

HA! The smooth legs should've tipped you off Culzie! Of course Stuck was fantasizing about me and was startled and disappointed when it turned out to be a hairless javelina!
