Do you really want Chad Johnson?

Look, if this guy is such a selfish prima donna that he's threatening not to report to any team functions because he wants to get traded, why would Bears fans want him coming to their team?

What will happen when Rex doesn't look for Ocho Cinco enough or throws poorly to him? How big of a distraction will Johnson become?

He's a great talent, but is he worth the trouble? He may be for a team that's going to win like New England, which is where Randy Moss regained his form, but Johnson won't make the Bears a contender.

The only reason you take a serious look at Johnson is if you think Brian Urlacher is going to be a distraction with his contract situation.

Urlacher for Johnson? Because of Urlacher's durability after neck surgery, I'd say make the deal.

But be ready for the day Johnson demands a trade out of Chicago.

Comments

Don't even have to think about this for a second - yes, yes, and YES! Ocho Cinco would look great in a Bears uni. When I saw the news on ESPN2 this morning about him, that was my first thought. He reminds me of Dennis Rodman. We all grew to love him, right?

Roman responds: Rodman was great here because of a certain teammate who made his teammates great. Who's going to make Johnson as good as he was with Carson Palmer?????

Could the reverse happen? I mean, could Johnson make Rex better?

for the exact reason you stated not to, Roman....Rex has no business in the NFL (thx 4 lookin out, Romo...here I go..)...and Chad Johnson would say it...Between Brandon Lloyd's slip...and hearing Biggs and Yourself use the word Rex like us mere laymen use the term 'him' for grammatical reasons...I really don't think there's a QB competition...not a real one...

lol..using the word conspiracy to cover up a conspiracy is kind of insulting... I think it would make a funny skit..

and again..Chad Johnson would say it...I'm not going to go into why Orton is heads and shoulders towering over Wets in talent...If you can't see it...I truly feel sorry for you...and you bet I'd badger you in public...and you would get owned...promise ya that

I'll make you youtube famous...Surprise!!.. youratube

and again...that's the type of stuff Chad Johnson would say...and oh..just real quick....name me one guy you would rather have..I don't consider Chad a cancer...at all...he's great and he's fun.....you're confusing Chad with Cedric...and once again...I'm feeling sorry for people...culzie

Champions are "allowed" to speak....even culzie got a blog...you'd be good to listen to players like Chad...not culzie....and/but/an/so if you're taken aback....stay on the porch...please

Roman..you redeemed yourself for saying Rex too much (thanks for giving it away, tho) when you included Urlacher to the Bengals...that deal should get done yesterday...and if you don't know why...

wow..I used indefinite you a lot just now....so..if you thought it was you I was talking to...let us know who you are...and I will badger you some more..and/so/but/an/or I can remind you...Chicago is a football town

You know what...Roman..get Mayor Daly...new slogan for the city....I freakin win....because we've forgotten too much...we need something to keep the masses from clingin to sissies and busts (I know that was kind of harsh)...and OMG...soccer (that's just wrong)....trying to understand "how they must feel"...that's a little "HillCrest" district for me, buddy...

Chicago is a Football Town....as I pay to watch my Raidahs while ya figure it out

and wow...Kyle Orton...Rashard Mendenhall...Chad Johnson..Mark Bradley..Devin in the Slot...and Greg Olson at TE

and you can draft O Line till your stupid, doody faces fall off after that.....hopefully Urlacher is a Bengal as I'm typing this...

right now...you putz's don't deserve it...I read your stuff...snap out of it and wake the letter before G up

Chad Johnson...the answer is yes

PLEASE FOOTBALL GODS?!?!?!?! PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN!!!!

I think we saw how the "only bring in Character Guys" argument played out with the Bulls last year.

Do whatever it takes, Julie is right on the Money...OCHO will make Rex or Orton or whoever we have under center better.

Do it, Do it, Do it.

Jerry...I know you read this Blog...its BCULZ....and you know I dont mess around.....CALL CHAD RIGHT NOW...and GIVE HIM THE MOON!

Because his selfishness will take the spotlight off of Urlacher's recent lapse of selfishness?

I would get Johnson IF the Bears had a stronger O-team leader. Yes, he will make most any QB look better as well as the rest of the receiving corps, but he comes with a huge "but."

If the Bears add Johnson and a running back, then their skill positions all of a sudden get a lot more competitive. To wit:

Johnson
Hester
Olsen
Clark
? (other receiver)
? (primary running back)

This group could give opposing defenses fits, but I agree with the Romanator that Johnson will be giving death stares and doing his best Mr. T impression ("I pity the fool...") to any QB unwilling to throw him the ball on every play.

Yes, Moss behaved in NE, but they have a strong culture there. Yes, Owens behaved in Dallas, but they have a strong culture there and the team backs Romo.
Not sure we can say whether the Bears team really backs either QB or has a strong enough culture to knock the snot out of Johnson when he needs/deserves it.

He is a talented player but acts like an idiot.
Would I like to see him in Chicago? I would say yes.
If we could deal with Dennis Rodman coming to town then I am sure that this would not be the end of the world.
The thing is.... how good is he really and how much of it was Carson Palmer and having two other very good receivers?
Teaming him up with Berrian would have been a different story.

Would I trade Urlacher for him? Yes but only if he was signed for mare than one season.
I am starting to think that trading Urlacher is not such a bad idea. He is still going to get you something very good in return and the offense is in much worse shape than the defense.
Trading Urlacher and getting another high pick in the first round would be okay by me.
Take the two best O linemen on the board in round one then draft a RB with the 2nd round pick and a WR in the 3rd round.

Yeah - Chad fits perfect with a bad O line and a QB that can't see over them.

Trade Urlacher for a decent LT, move Tait to RT, and then draft Mendenhall...then Johnson could help.

If the Bears can get Chad Johnson for Brian Urlacher straight up, I say do it ASAP. Yes, Chad is worth the trouble only because Urlacher is also a distraction waiting to happen because of his contract issues and because of deteriorating neck/back conditions. Plus, Chad would make that receiving core look much much better. The bigger need on offense would mitigate an Urlacher loss on defense. Chad is a proven offensive talent and the Bears have proven that they can find gold mines on defense better than they can on offense through the draft anyway. If Chad demands a trade from the Bears 2 years from now, at least I get to watch the best receiver ever to play in a Bears uniform for 2 years! Do the deal, Angelo!

You can get arrested for misspelling "Daley" in this city, Hitman. Almost as big crime as let's say, "Peyton" or "Dikka" would be.

Oh yeah. It would be worth watching just to see how johnson reacts to rex not seeing him get open every other play.

BC, could you....... repeat that?

and whoops

I want Ocho Cinco really bad, he is my favorite player outside of number 23. But not for Urlacher, Urlacher will not turn into a huge distraction. But if his neck is bad and the Bears are worried, do it. I feel for you Brian if you have to go to Cinci

I just picture Hitman sitting in a trailer on some make shift computer setup somewhere in the Mohave desert listening to Emmenim's "Lose yourself" typing away his ill-poetic Hi-Ku style posts.

85 and 23 wide out with Bradley or Booker in the slot?

Sick!

ON THE MONEY!

Why would we want Chad Johnson? We don't need him, we already got Devin Hester and Marty Booker! HAHAHAHAAHAHAA

ARE YOU GUYS NUTS!!! urlacher is the heart and soul of the bears. do you remember what happened a few years back when he was hurt and didnt play to many games? yeah, we lost alotttttt!!!!! the defense is gonna be awesome again this coming year if we dont get to many of our starers hurt again. as for chad, i think it would be great if he came here, but hes not worth an urlacher, no way in hell!!! plus chad is kind of a whiner

WOW!!!!! I am surprised at all the people who say get rid of Urlacher. Chad would be a great addition offensively but would come with bigger distractions which we don't handle well here in Chicago. I definitely wouldn't want him at the expense of the centerpiece of our defense in Urlacher. Let me ask you guys who exactly who do you think will replace Urlacher at middle linebacker? Lance? Lance is a great defensive player, but guess what? He benefits from Urlacher's presence as well as the other way around. Urlacher's problems with his neck and back should be fine. I am sure with the millions that he makes and all of the top medical resources available to him, that he will be back to pro bowl form next year. Hey, it's not like Urlacher had a bad year. He led the team in tackles and interceptions and was third in sacks. It is absolutely insane that you guys are talking about getting rid of him for Chad. I really think that you guys get too excited when you hear that a player is available that might help us out and you forget about the players that make us what we are.

I WANT HIM TO STAY WHERE HE IS, AND RELAX, PLAY FOOTBALL, BEFORE
HE ENDS UP IN THE ARENA LEAGUE! THE NEW COMMISH IS MAKING PLAYERS
SIT OUT SEASONS FOR OFF-FIELD SITUATIONS, AND THIS GUY WANTS TO
BE TRADED, HE BETTER WORK HIS BUTT OFF, AND SUCCEED, THE BEARS
DON'T NEED SYBIL JOHNSON!

Yes, the Bears need CJ, and should match any offer given to Cinci. Maybe party the reason the Bears never have good QBs is because they never have good receivers. A receiver as good as Johnson will make this offense 100x better immediately. You can't count on Hester, Booker will likely give the same preduction as Moose would have, and while we all love Bradley, there's a reason the coachs don't.

Urlacher for CJ? NFL trades don't work that way, man. Second and third round draft picks should get the job done, and I'd do that.

Roman responds: When are you going to start helping posting these comments again? I know you have finals, but put your priorities in order, man.

Jon says "the defense is gonna be awesome again this coming year if we dont get to many of our starers hurt again".

Jon - what defense were u watching last year? The one that let a RB who couldn't start at UofI run all over them in the game against the Saints? Other than Hester, the entire team was brutal last year. The only reason the O will get more attention than the D in the draft is because they are even more brutal.

Chad Johnson in Chicago.... let me think....NOT!! you guys need a real QB before he decides 2 go 2 that losing team. Draft a QB, get a real RB and maybe sum yonug guys on D and then meybe hell come. At least in Cinci he had a real QB and real recievers. Come to NYJ or NYG.

Julie please pass me the glaucoma medicine I need it to decipher hitman's ramblings.

Do it, Jerry, do it. Look, the Eagles haven't been the same since T.O. left town. A playmaker makes all the difference in the world. Right now, we barely have an offense. This guy is dynamic on the field. Sure, he's an ass off of it but his skills are not to be questioned. Get him now!

I want Chad as much as I want Cheney to stay in office. But if he is all we can get for Urlacher...do it. Bears do not need a ball hog with that line and Rex. I can see Chad hooking Rex to the jaw. This is definitely a guy that has to be with a STUD QB. Not one in the making.

And Julie I agree with Roman, Rodman blossomed around the BEST. He was run out of SAN-ANTONIO of all places.

I would take this..

2007 Cincinnati Bengals 16 16 93 1,440 15.5 70T 8 TDs
2006 Cincinnati Bengals 16 16 87 1,369 15.7 74T 7 TDs
2005 Cincinnati Bengals 16 16 97 1,432 14.8 70T 9 TDs
2004 Cincinnati Bengals 16 16 95 1,274 13.4 53T 9 TDs
2003 Cincinnati Bengals 16 14 90 1,355 15.1 82T 10 TDs
2002 Cincinnati Bengals 16 14 69 1,166 16.9 72T 5 TDs
2001 Cincinnati Bengals 12 3 28 329 11.8 28 1

Roman responds: Is Palmer coming, too?

Roman,

enough about the Bears for now. Where the UFC blogs at? you got Serra-St. Pierre 2 tomorrow. And my money is on Serra again

Roman responds: I've been thinking of starting a regular UFC blog. It might work now that stuckinwisconsin seems to have left us. I'm taking GSP by tap out.

no culzie, but I do listen to a lot of Agnostic Front while I do more push ups and sit ups/week than..well..it's about 2000+ ....In between all the Hi-Ku's I write, of course....and can you believe I do that in Lincolnshire?...what would be the difference if it was in a trailor, tho?...do explain

I apologize for rattling your cage..

Seedy....Kyle could handle Chad...but honestly....I'd like to see Al Davis get him...and believe me when I say that Al Davis has already made more of an effort to look into it than Jerry ...

Yeah, Ricky - Roman needs a lot of help. We've kinda gotten used to you around here, and lately you've been M.I.A. Also, in case you have an upcoming spelling test, it's "coaches."

Roman responds: Yes, I can use some help posting comments. And there have been a lot of them this week. I'm a busy man. Hey, did you guys feel that earthquake last night? I woke up around 5, but I don't remember being shaken.

no shaking...walked around my house this morning and all the breakables are still waiting to be toppled over...you all know about the fault line in the midwest, right?...as Tiny E would say...."It's HUUUUUGE"

I was up with a sick kid at that time - no vibes in Roscoe Village either.

Hey Roman, start up a UFC blog. I'm game also! Regarding GSP vs. Serra, Serra's ground game is excellent, probably even better than his strikes. He just caught GSP in the sweet spot early in their first matchup, but clearly, GSP will be more prepared this time around. I say GSP by decision or knockout.

Okay, maybe I'm crazy -but I think I just felt an aftershock! Seriously, my desk started to shake right after I typed my last post.

Julie that wasn't an after shock it was munchie rumblings dear!

Trade for him if the price is right. That way if you need to cut ties, it win't hurt as bad. He's an outstanding wide out, with a skill set we don't have.

Believe me, Tim, Hitman's ramblings are still undecipherable. Thank God for those ellipses, or we'd be totally lost.

Sorry Monkey, you know I still love you!

who wouldn't want a reciver that can actually get open and not drop the ball? Who you gonna cover? Johnson or Hester? Neither! Not possible. Who needs a running game with these two? Finally, a reciever worhty of Rex's golden arm. Carson Palmer is no where near as good as Rex. Now, Johnson with Orton? That would be an epic waste.

Roman,

I say start that weekly UFC blog. I'm down to be a regular contributor. Do you know what the word is for the UFC coming to Chicago some time this year?

lol..Julie, spewing a rough draft is awesome therapy...and people's reactions?...almost as good as that story about me and that cow....and my friend tried to make....

StuckinWisco..A golden arm?...better than Carson Palmer?...I'm glad you found a good dealer...mine rules too....and Naked Raygun is poking their head around the corner again..FYI

and Tim Little..there would never have been a song, movie, or joke written worth a darn if it wasn't for..(insert drug of choice here)...now, don't go tellin your kids Hannah Montana's writers are probably on smack...

I would still trade Urlacher for Chad...Julie and Roman make great points...I ....well, you saw ...Rickey gets me, tho...that's all I care, really

Oh..and don't tell me Briggs can't play MLB...and Jamar is ready anyways...hurry, lets go...I haven't heard Chad Johnson and Chicago Bears in the same sentence yet on TV....

Seedy and Rickey are wrong about Mark Bradley, btw..

...oh...brother......
Hitman, please evaluate Naked Raygun ,and let me know how they sound these days. Jesus and Mary Chain can't be too far behind. I s'pose the Riv and Aragon are long gone, I think the last concert I saw in Chitown was 11th Dream Day at the Metro.
Well, this is my irrelevant post for the week-just wanted to match the UFC posts.

The Riv and the Aragon "Brawlroom" are still here. In fact, there's a big movie being shot at the Aragon. Last concert I saw there was Violent Femmes and The Offspring.

What is this "They need a great QB before they can get a great WR" nonsense?
A great WR can make an average QB much better and the sky is not going to suddenly open up and start raining QBs so get a grip.
All of this hand wringing over Berrian not teaming up with Rex Grossman but now you don’t think that Johnson and Grossman would be an improvement?
Forget about this "Face of the Bears" crap. If Urlacher is the face of the Bears then he is doing a poor job of it with his attitude since the Super Bowl.
What makes this a better team?

1. A injured Urlacher whining about his money while coming off his worst season as a pro and no playmakers on offense.
2. Grossman having Chad Johnson to throw to and opening up the offense for players like Olson, Hester and maybe even a running game?

I am tired of watching a one-sided football team.

Well, this is my irrelevant post for the week...

Posted by: stuckinwisconsin | April 19, 2008 09:51 PM

FOR JUST THE WEEK?

The Answer is YES...we WANT HIM!

I'd read this blog if for no other reason than to peruse the rambling / stream of consciousness missives posted by our most notorious contributor; Hitman.

His convoluted, abstract style is one of a kind, and while I often have to use my WWII Enigma machine to decypher the hidden treasures in his caustic barbs, decoding them is well worth the effort.

Stuck sez: "Carson Palmer is no where near as good as Rex."

I'd be willing to bet that you could find roughly about 31 General Managers in the NFL who would disagree with you on that one.

And the 32nd GM would be lying.

has anyone ever seen attack of the clone people?

thats what I think MarkV is...he is like that pod person growing in your basement...that takes on your characteristics and style and will one day become you and take over your life.

Wow, Mark, I always thought it was Keith with the Man-crushes. By the way, I'm hurt. I'm very hurt.

Mark..thank you, man
