Cubs are good and lucky

Remember those doubts last week when the Cubs were winning games because of bad calls or errors by bad opponents? They seem like distant memories, don't they.

Now the Cubs are just really good after sweeping two games from a good Mets team. That makes the Cubs 7-1 on the just-completed homestand.

The Cubs' offense continues to dominate - is it a coincidence this is happening without Alfonso Soriano - and Ted Lilly finally found his form.

This team is living up to expectations.

Alfonso who? I think the Cubs are playing even better without him. And when Pie got that homer last night, the only other guy happier than Pie was Lou. And is there anything Kosuke can't do? That guy rocks!

Re: "is it a coincidence this is happening without Alfonso Soriano?"

Cubs lose Alfonso Soriano.

Cubs insert 4th outfielder Reed Johnson, an inferior hitter, into Soriano's spot in the lineup.

Cubs proceed to score more runs.

I'm being asked if this is a coincidence for some reason.

Fine, I honestly think some people here wouldn't be able to figure this one out on their own, so I'll just answer.

Yes.

Yeah...this is the team...and we have Lou...Soriano won't be a distraction

Hopefully, Captain Comfort himself has seen we have better options at lead off...He should be 4th or 5th

and Strawberry/Rhubarb...I...Like...Pie!!!

I agree, things are looking great for the Cubs right now. The team is clicking, coincidentally without Soriano, and it will be interesting to see if this trend continues when Soriano returns from the DL. Hopefully the team will not have peaked too soon this season, but the team is playing and all of the new guys like Reed Johnson and Fukudome are proving many people wrong. I still think the bullpen is being used way too much, but Lou is doing a great job keeping everyone fresh so far. It's a long season of course and of course, I'm expecting the jealous Sox fans and Marty Brennamen to continue their rant of "Cubs will choke" down the stretch. I can't wait for those posts. For me, as long as both Chicago teams are doing well, then this will be a nice Summer...

When even Ronny Cedeno is looking good and Felix Pie is occasionally not missing curve balls by two feet, one finds it hard to avoid optimism. One hopes that the present performances are indicative of what the Cubs really are this year. Those two youngsters have been great lately. Let's hope the trend continues in Colorado and that the return of Soriano doesn't disrupt the smooth sailing evident since he went on the disabled list.

cedano's fielding and range are impressive, be nice to have that defense every day. Maybe move theriot back to second and use derosa as super utility man which is what he really is. If the cubs can get both cedano and theriot in and with soto and reedie playing well, then up the middle, they be vastly improved from last year.

You are right. Where they were kind of lucky at first now things have changed. They are playing really good baseball right now.
I like the way that Ronnie Cedeno is playing and if this is a preview of what he is capable of then they should be wetting their pants.
Not every player on the team has to be A-Rod and guys like that get you to the World Series.

As much as I can't stand some of the Cubs fans I would be happy to see them win a World Series. I mean... I have seen all of one World Series title in my lifetime after following both teams since I was five years old.

This is our year...Boston broke there "curse" twice our turn...

Yes, they are good and lucky, a very talented team, pitching still questionable, though. Someone on the Sox broadcast said it best..(loosely quoted)...isn't it funny when you work harder during the offseason, the luckier you get.

weelll, guess the cubs are just lucky to be in that weak division, no wait, the weak division looks like it is somewhere else, lucky would be to be in weak american central division, now that''s weak. Jacque Jones in center anyone? Bet detroit's gonna love watching him beat the ball into the dirt in front of the pitcher's mound and then make throws that would get you benched in a ball. Only takes a bad player or two to ruin a team, and only takes a couple or three bad teams to make a weak division. Course if the white sox were in the national league central the'd still be what, in fourth or fifth place in the national league central. Right there with that powerhouse houston team. Good ting dey in da easy league's worst division, make dem feel good bout dem selves
