Cheers to those Sox fans who stayed till the bitter end

| | Comments (4)

I salute those White Sox fans who braved hours of the worst-case scenario for a baseball game Monday at U.S. Cellular Field.

Steady rain, delays, temps in the 30s, extra innings and no decision. It couldn't get any worse, especially since your team had glorious chances to win it and send you home happy.

There you were: wet, cold, tired, many drunk, staying till the end. That's a solid effort. And I'm not talking about those in the luxury suites, I'm talking about those in the elements.

What was the worst part of the day for you guys? Did you blame Ozzie for calling for the squeeze or for Brian Anderson not being able to get wood on the ball?

Let me know if you were there and what it was like.

I watched the game on 'Extra Innings' under a blanket in my house in New York where it was cold and rainy out too. One thought kept going thru my head; what kind of maniacs are still at the game? After a more than two hour wait, a long, boring, game ensues and continues into extra innings. The players are exhaling smoke like it's the North Pole, and I swear I could hear conversations of the 29 fans that remained by the eleventh inning. The rain kept coming down, puddles all over the infield, pathetic! That was not a good advertisement for major league baseball. Shouldn't these games count as much as those played in good weather? Yet I got the impression that the fans had had enough. And that goes for that million inning game the Rockies played two weeks ago too. Boo to the Sox management, they should have given every remaining fan free box seats to an upcoming game, and all refreshments free after the 7th inning! Give something back to the loyal fans for once!

That was one of the worst gm's Ozzie's managed. Call it Dumb, & Dumber but fortunately Uribe of all people bailed him out .. for now. I hear the game will resume on Aug 25 in BAL.

Dumb: denying arguably the most durable arm in MLB a CG opportunity. Javier was smoking & the odds were good he would have worked a quick inning to close the deal.

Dumber: having Anderson attempt a bunt squeeze play. The odds of Brian executing a SF to win the game are MUCH higher than him dragging a bunt on a squeeze play. I've never seen him to that once in a WSox uniform successfully.

My heart goes out to the fans. I've been there in similar conditions before. It's brutal. I hope they flood Ozzie's e-mail box.

Besides for not being able to feel 75% of my body when the game was called, the worst was seeing Anderson go from a bottom of the ninth game winning hit, to missing a squeeze oppurtunity in a similar situation. It's not so much the fact that the run didn't get in but that he failed to even make solid enough contact for the pitch to be a foul ball and not leave Quentin out to dry. As far as blame goes, you could blame Ozzie if you wanted but as a professional baseball player, if you can't lay down a squeeze bunt then you're pretty much SOL unless you're belting out homeruns or basehits nearly on command. Anderson is not what I would consider a powerful presence at the plate at this point in his career. Besides, he had a chance at a sacrifice fly which can be one of the more routine things to do in baseball. Ozzie decided to take a chance after that first strike and BA pretty much choked. My friends and I wanted nothing more than for that game to end right then and there so we could get near a heater.

THOSE ARE REAL FANS! Made me proud! Brian Anderson makes me want to sling him to AAA and bring up Josh Fields.
