Steve Stone joins Sox booth

Chris Singleton? Good riddance. He wasn't very good. Steve Stone joining the Sox radio booth suddenly makes those telecasts much more compelling. But the White Sox have made one big mistake.

Why limit Stone to the radio? He should be the TV color guy with Hawk. That would be a great, great team that would be hard to turn off.

Comments

As a Cub fan this certainly comes as a surprise. I guess that this is the White Sox' way of payback for Harry Caray. OK, we're even.

Good post Jody! Hawk shares the big stage with NO ONE!! He needs dj like batman needs robin. Stone would probably try to check Hawk and get check-mated. Don't let a guest appearance in the booth fool you. They both probably couldnt wait until each day was "Oh-vah!"

you obviously do not know much about Chicago Baseball....Steve Stone played for the White Sox for a number of years....You can have Harry drunk Carey...

Darn...and I was just getting used to his odd syllable acentuation. "and that brings up Paul KoNERko. Paul is hitting .300 against the INdians. Paul has really been hot during this HOMEstand".

Cubs blew it big time when they let Steve Stone, the best baseball analyst in the country, go. It turned out that Stone was "dead on" with his analysis of Dusty Baker's flaws as a manager. Baker was a terrible strategist and should have taken baseball lessons from Stone.

I agree with Roman. Steve Stone should be on TV, where more people can enjoy his talent.

I thinks it's great to have Stone on the radio: I hear more games on the radio than TV anyway. With Farmer & Stone together the "inside baseball" aspect of broadcast should be intense. It's true the Cubs let him get away for dumb reasons. Just like the poster above said, payback for Harry Carey!

Not enough room in the broadcast booth for Hawk, Hawk's ego, all the wind generated from Hawk's mouth, and Steve Stone. I'll enjoy hearing Stone's banter w/Farmio. THey're both smart baseball guys and should make a great team.

Teaming Stone with Hawk would be ideal. Much like Caray, Harrelson has become a caricature of himself, and needs a partner with a little more life in him than comotose D.J.

Without exception, D.J. is the absolute worst color commentator that I have ever listened to, and he's the main reason that I avoid watching the Sox on TV unless I can listen to something else while doing so.

Steve Stone is just another representative of the Tribune's failures. He spoke his mind and they didn't want him back. Shame on you Tribune!

I have an idea! Have Stoney totally replace Hawk in the TV Booth. That'd be WONDERFUL for all baseball fans!

This is the second saddest moment besides Gonzalez letting that easy double play ball slip through his hands moments before "the Bartman" incident

"Steve Stone joining the Sox radio booth suddenly makes those telecasts much more compelling"

Um, radio doesn't telecast.

Are they going to build a special booth at the Cell to contain his ego?

I have a better idea. Lets give kenny the boot and replace him with Stone (very knowledgable and respected baseball guy) with GM.

On totally opposite note: Reinsdorf is just as bad about trying to control media negativity (honesty) so when Stone makes similar observations about Ozzie/Williams as he did about Baker, etc he will probably be warned maybe once and then fired anyways.

Finally I can listen to the White Sox games on the radio. How in the heck did Chris Singleton ever get a job in radio? That guy needed Viverons or No dos in the worst way. Nice guy but the worst announcer of All Time.

No Roman, the Sox did not make a mistake. The Blackhawks made a mistake by signing that guy from the wolves. As a black man, I sometimes like to listen to hockey in the wheels, that man is BORING.

Stone was an upgrade over Chris S., after all these years he still sounded like a homesick college boy. DJ has learned to deal the legend of Hawk I know it all Harrelson, who STILL sucks as a GM, I could live with them two. Singleton had to go, really.... just leave. Still like my Sox chances over the UBS.

Quick question, since daylight savings time is so early, will the Cubs be useless by August this year?

Roman responds: Chuck, you made me laugh. I don't get the "As a black man, I sometimes like to listen to hockey in the wheels..."

I have tried to sync my radio with my tv many times, because I cannot stand Hawk and Wimpy II, but Direct TV lags behind real time by about 5 seconds. I had a feeling something was in the works last season when Steve Stone filled in for DJ a few times. He actually made Hawk slightly less annoying. It is too bad he'll only be on radio, but maybe that will change soon enough. Worse though is that Chris Singleton is going to "Baseball Tonight."

I can imagine a person of Steve Stone's caliber can't stand Hawk.
Why would anyone want to be stuck with him? Put it on the boooaard......NO.

Heck, as a Cubs fan I miught have to tune in once in a while just to get my Stoney fix...BTW: THE gonzales boot came just AFTER the Bartman ball, not before.

Having Stone broadcast Sox games might just make them listenable. One of our 4 broadcasters ain't bad!

this move is ten times better than the swisher pick-up. without a shadow of doubt the best move the sox made this offseason.....here is one for ya OBAMA AND STONE FOR PRESIDENT

I think its time for a 'Full Court Press Blogger Awards'

Since there is so little for us to celebrate about our sports teams right now, why dont we celebrate ourselves?

Roman? You could do an official one...

or...

we could do an unofficial one??

Any Catagory ideas?

Funniest Post...Best Facts..worst bet maker...biggest antogonist?

Roman responds: Excellent idea. I will put one together soon. I'll take suggestions for categories and winners, but I will make all final decisions. And Culzie, you know I love you, but if there's a "Worst Speller" category, you're a nominee. "Catagory"????

Steve Stone was and is at the very top among analysts. The Cubs should never have lost him. Harry I don't miss, but Stoney was the man. I'm for pushing him as manager when Lou decides to leave.

WORST INJURY REPORT OF THE YEAR EARLY NOMINEE

The Cubs have had a variety of injuries this spring. So far, infielder Mark DeRosa was hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat, pitcher Jose Ascanio had a bruised face after getting punched in a robbery attempt,

and outfielder Felix Pie missed a couple of days early because of a twisted testicle. (WHAT THE BLEEP IS THAT?)

Third baseman Aramis Ramirez remains sidelined with a sore right shoulder.

Seems Keith might be up for nomination in several categories...

Blogger who never forgets anything anyone writes.......has to me be.

Ricky's 20.

Steve Stone brings bona fide teaching, high intelligence, appropriate humor and awesome analyis to the broadcast. I just hope that Farmio (never a fan) lets Stone get a few words in.

Chris Singleton got the most out of his limited talent as a ballplayer and perhaps one could say the same for his broadcasting. Nevertheless, I thought he was awful to his final game. I always felt like "If he could do it, anybody could do it." I am a bit surprised by ESPN hiring him, but then again it doesn't take much to sit there having watched the game, jot down notes and then give a three sentence analysis. Anybody who's played the game could do that! In fact, ESPN has hired just about anybody for the purpose over the years.

PLEASE STEVE STONE stay with the Sox beyond 2008. BROOK BOYER, please hire someone other than Singleton next year if Stone leaves!

Umm...Chuck...I loath Favre! Not Love!

Julie, you keep making me laugh with your "

post. That is some good stuff, sorry Keith.

Although Keith does not play the race card more than some of our other bloggers.

"I am a bit surprised by ESPN hiring him"..

I'm not - next to Emmitt Smith, Singleton will look like a Rhodes scholar.

He manufactures them...

Not you Culz, talking about me.

They tell me to turn that junk off, usually without the word junk in there. My wife hates all sports on radio, so I don't even play when she gets in the car.

Worst day in Chicago media history was when the Cubs let Stoney walk away. As it turns out, he was right & Baker was wrong, so they let the wrong guy leave! At any rate, it's good to have him back. Now if they'd only lose Hawk..........
