BCS title game? Who cares
Am I the only one who is less than thrilled about tonight's championship game?
Ohio State didn't even create much of a buzz in the Big Ten. I mean they lost AT HOME to Illinois, which was outclassed by USC.
Now USC vs. LSU would capture my attention.
I'll watch the game, but I'm sure I'll just keep thinking how much more exciting it would be if these teams were playing after winning semifinals.

I'm hoping for a blowout to further shove it in the BCS committee's face as to how much a playoff is needed for college football!
Get these guys out of the dark ages and let the best teams play each other!

I laughed when I opened this...forgot they had a game today
might as well do what we do every year.....I'll start...I think West Virginia would win in it all in a playoff
and Oregon healthy was the best team in the nation this year..

If you get bored, you can watch "Dance War: Bruno vc. Carrie Ann." It may be slightly more thrilling than the return of American Gladiators.

It's games like this that make me nostalgic for the possibility of a tie.

The problem with having a playoff system is that it would open the door to "non-traditional" powers having a chance at the championship. Of course, the traditional powers are against this! An 8 or 10 or 12 team playoff makes too much sense for there to ever be one.
As for the way it is set up now: USC lost to Stanford at home. They have no business complaining that they should have been there and no business being there.

What would your name be if you were a Gladiator?
BTW, knowing that you live with a Buckeye explains a lot. I forgive you.

Who cares is right. Every week in the SEC was almost like a National Championship game and who did OSU play? At least they won the championship of Ohio. See Akron, Youngston State and of course Bowling Green. The team that gave up 60+ points last night.
Tonights game should have been Mizzou vs USC. USC and LSU would even be a good game. OSU and USC absolutely no contest.USC could have played there 2 and 3rd string and still would kill Ohio State.
Go LSU
Posted by: Paul Ponce | January 7, 2008 06:47 PM
LSU wouldn't even be here if Missouri, West Virgina and Kansas hadn't lost.

well..if you know so much about OSU, youll know that it is loaded with gorgeous, down to earth, amazing, girls!!!...and if its not, then I scored the best of the bunch!!!!!

you had a thread for this????????????? Not for the Rose Bowl?????
sup wit dat?????

They should not allow the Big Ten to be in any BCS games at all. How pathetic is this Conference? Every year they lose more Bowl Games than they win and in the big ones, they don't even show up! Great showing by the Illini and OSU.

As long as the Rose Bowl refuses to change it's tradition there will never be a Plus One play-off or any other play off format. But the Rose Bowl doesn't have the prestige it once had to begin with. If the Rose Bowl wants to return to the prominence it had before, they could push to host the championship game of whatever play off format that is decided upon whether it's a plus one or top eight record play off.

How I spent my BCS Championship night:
7:15: Get home from work
7:30: Make dinner
7:45: Tune in to see OSU up 7-0; see kicker make it a 10-0 game
7:50: Lose all interest, start packing for vacation (partly due to the plethora of commercials, partly because of terrible announcers)
9:30: Check score: LSU 31, OSU 17
9:31: Confirm that there was absolutely no reason for me to watch the BCS Championship, wonder why a four- or eight-team playoff would be so difficult
9:32: Vow not to care until Iowa, West Virginia, Boise State or Hawaii play in title game

The BCS got it right again. For the 2nd straight year the SEC champion became the national champion. No one disputes the fact the SEC is the toughest football conference in the nation so it should come as no surprise that it's top dog is likely to win the NC each year.
The Div-1 Natl Champion is awarded to the team with the best body of work that year & that certainly fits LSU. They suffered just 2 over-time defeats & under old OT rules they probably would have won those games. New OT rules create shootouts where luck is a bigger factor. There is no one more deserving of #1 right now than LSU.
The problem with the BCS is that it continues to honor teams like Ohio State that avoid tough out of conference opponents in their regular season. What the BCS needs more than anything else is a valued-win bonus to help prevent this. I don't think Ohio State would open with Youngstown State if say USC were to seek bonus points by opening vs Nebraska.

Why don't you just be "PRAYING MANTIS SVENGALI" and I'll call you PMS for short. Don'tcha wanna know my Gladiator name?

I agree with Hitman about WV and Oregon, but I'd also throw USC into the mix.
When the Trojans are on they're game, they're as good as any team in the nation.

Stuck sez: "you had a thread for this????????????? Not for the Rose Bowl?????
sup wit dat?????"
I tried forgetting about that game at halftime.
Why on Earth would anyone care to revisit it again?
A thread about the Rose Bowl would be like taking out the garbage for an Illini fan.

The Illini fans oughtta get "It was a fumble" shirts ...
Posted by: Hitman | January 8, 2008 08:47 PM
Mariotti: USC 38, LSU 28. Dumb.
GA entered their game ranked higher than USC in every poll. Their win over higher ranked Hawaii was no less convincing than lesser ranked IL. There is no legitmate reason to rank USC higher than GA in the final rankings. It's no surprise then that GA's pres would suggest an 8 team playoff format.
GA's pres has suggested a Great 8 tourney involving the 4 major bowls. He's calling for a selection comm like NCAABB has for the 8 seeds. What's ludicrous about this is that both TN & MO lost BCS spots to teams in their division THEY BEAT simply because they lost in the conference championship game. That's whacked.

Mark Villano...I hate to go against you, but if them boys were able to recover from a few bad bounces(e1 forgot about the 1st quarter one where the the ball got popped out right into the hands of #4) then the Illini could have won. However, their lack of experience in those phases of the game was too much to overcome. They kind of looked like the Bears against the Cowboys this year. Adversity must be overcome.
Posted by: stuckinwisconsin | January 8, 2008 11:15 PM
Yo Stuck,
It was the overall speed of the game that doomed the Illini.
Most SEC teams play their entire games in hyper-drive.
USC plays like that too.

I dont think I like combining them...I will just go with
INVISABRUCE!
what would yours be?

Mine would be Luna. Thinking of going with either "When the moon comes out, watch out," or "The fun begins after dark" as my motto. Like it?
(I know the Romanator does!)

OS got smoked. Game was over at halftime. Just like Illinois.

Aha! It only took me 12 hours (11:59, to be exact) to get that, BC. I'd rather the association be with the moon instead of food, if you don't mind.
