Who should start at quarterback?

| | Comments (70)

Brad Biggs reports from the Bears' locker room that it appears Kyle Orton will get the start Monday night. I say it's about time.

Why have him on the roster if you're never going to play him? We've seen what Brian Griese can do, but isn't it time to see if Orton has improved since he last played?

I can throw it pretty far I will give it a whirl. I can't make it Monday but after that I think I am free for the rest of the games.

Well, this is a tough situation for Orton. What is he supposed to do with a team that has pretty much quit and has no consistent running attack? Top it off going against one of the hottest team in the league (the Vikings are starting to tear it up) spells trouble.

But, I'm glad he will finally be getting another shot after losing his spot (some say unfairly) the first time around. Good luck Kyle!

I agree its Orton time. After the season is over, its time to part with Griese and bring in a prospect. Next season start Rex with Orton as back-up if he is ready if he is not - cut him also. ESPN reported you can look at every successful team and what almost ALL of them have in common is the QB. Any football team that sustained success over a period of time is traced back to kind of QB they have. Bradshaw, Montana, Aikman, Brady. Bears have to start rebuilding there.

HELLLLOOOOOO?.....Line 3 in the song "Without RexandCed"

Kyle...The first step in regaining the necessary chemistry....Cutting Benson is the second

Fixing this team (personnel wise) really shouldn't be too difficult after that....unfortunately though...GM, Coaches....ehhh, that's a mess

Why not let Orton have a shot? Brain is done. Send him home. Rex well its to bad he got hurt. Orton just has to realize that he can't rely on the D cause they suck.

Ron Turner.

That way he will learn first hand how Wrecks and Griese feel.

After the third sack, stick in Orton.

ABOUT F&*@&ING TIME GO BEARS!

Hooray! Let Orton start! Nevermind he's behind a decrepid offensive line which is the real reason the Bears' offense sucked. While Griese threw a bunch of picks, nevermind the fact that he could match that with touchdowns. Oh, and nevermind the way the Bears have treated Griese (i.e. asking him to fein ignorance over who was the starting QB after Oakland and having him "clarify" that the comeback drive at Philly was partly thanks to Ron Turner. Sure.) Just like when Rex had problems and people were chanting for Griese, the guy on the sideline will always be the "savior". Griese's good, Rex isn't bad and Orton's not going to turn heads but sure, let's see what we have with him. Let the people believe...

Well it's about time the Bears give Orton his chance. I never thought they should have bench him in the first place. All he did was lead the Bears to a 13-3 record and managed the game well with minimum mistakes for a rookie. I felt he played well enough to be the starter until he lost the job. I hope Bears fans will support him and understand that now Kyle has no ground game as he had in his rookie year and be more patient with him because it's now obvious that he gonna have to throw more and defenses will be waiting. Remember, Romo waited three years before he got to start and made mistakes too, so if Kyle has matured while waiting, then we should give him more than three games to judge him, and make him the starter next year if he plays well these final three games. I will give him my full support. GO KYLE!!!

This is fantastic news! I'm up to #2 on the depth chart! That's one hammy pull away from action the way I see it. And, I do have a babysitter on Mondays, so we're all set.

I say Orton.
You know what you have in Griese so you might as well play Orton to see what you have in him. I don't want to see a watered down offense either. Let him throw the ball 40-50 times each game for the rest of the season because you have nothing to lose and lots of questions that need to be answered.
The same goes for Garrett Wolfe. Play him and use him as much as you can in both the running and passing games.

Tom Brady looked awsome against the Steelers. I guess Orton should get a shot since the Bears have nothing to play for anymore. I hope this is finally the end of Wrecks in a Bears uniform.

Poor Orton; He is in a no win situation. Starting behind an "O" Line that couldn't block in Pop Warner. If they win one of their remaining Games, the job should be his, or at least let him compete for the job next season. Griese is done and given a chance, Orton will beat out Trainrex and be the starter.

this is the bears way of justifing losing out for better draft positioning witch isn't that bad of an idea. hey if orton lights it up and does very well then we got ourselves a starter next year. if he sucks then we got great positon to draft the hawaii kid or the oregon, or the boy from mizzou.(sorry forgot all the names.this team has so many needs but qb is the most important,if we can find a way to get mcnabb here and save those picks on maybe a top back or o-line then we'll be in good shape.this off season is the most important one in a very long time cuz if we suck again next year it will be to late with these core player we have now. personally i'm rooting for kyle to light it up but who knows.

I'm excited to see him play again; It's been a long time, and I wish him the best.

i'm not going to get my hopes up, but it would be great if this is the beginning of the Kyle Orton era.

It doesnt matter. They can start Ronnie Woo Woo because these games are meaningless unless they lose them. We have to start looking at the draft. Orton must suck to not get a start this year. I dont want him getting hot. He should have gotten hot during training, and when Rex was sucking so badly that we had to go to Griese. Cut Griese and Orton and bring in some competition for Rex next year.

Orton had better keep himself awake in that pocket because if Tait and Miller- the Lone Snappers- fall asleep at the line again, Kyle could get turned into Cambell's Chunky soup.

KYLE ORTON PLEASE!....He Should have got a shot earlier in the season!!!

Did Keith really just say this??

"Next season start Rex with Orton as back-up if he is ready if he is not - cut him also"

Holy Smokes....

Move over Chuck...we got a new shotgun up in this motha!!

Oh pray tell Hitman...what will the say after Orton isnt the Answer....who to blame then????

Colt Brennan, Dennis Dixon & Chase Daniels

what about Matt Ryan...im sick of short QB's

What about McFadden?? Maybe we need the next AD? (All Day)

What do they expect Orton to achieve? Brady couldn't play behind the Bears' offensive line! I hope he doesn't get killed out there. Rex really shouldn't get a contract next season, the Bears need to get that quarterback from Hawaii and please get a few offensive linemen or whoever is in the QB position will get sacked 50 times a game, throw 20 interceptions or get hurt!

Actually, you know what the real core problem has been behind this season? Lack of competition. The friggin' coaches don't start the guys who earn it and it drives me up the wall. From what I've seen St. Clair has outperformed both tait and Miller when filling in for them; heck, even caught a touchdown pass earning the envy of some of the receivers. At the start of '06 and '07, Griese outperformed Rex yet the job still went to Rex. Is anyone else pissed off about this? That the best man doesn't get the job?

This team is scrapping the bottom of the barrel as it relates 2 QB's and offensive schemes. That is a deadly combination.

um....does it really matter if Kyle is going to be under center? If they are not putting him in shotgun, then he might as well line up at fullback, where at least he'll know ahead of time that he will have to do his own blocking.

It won"t matter, even if you have Tom Brady back there. The "O" line has more holes than a slice of swiss cheese. The vikes defense will be on Orton faster than a chicken on a june bug.

In my opinion starting Orton is the right thing to do so they can have a better evaluation of his ability. Although QB is just one of a many glaring weaknesses this team has. Offensive line, RB, WR, safety, defensive tackle, linebacker after Briggs is gone are the other holes that need to be filled. Remember, the Bears defense is the weaker unit on this team, what with them ranking 29th in the league. And while the defense has had some injuries, they weren't ravaged with injuries. This team is about as bad off as any other team in the league besides Miami, and they have a complete rebuilding job ahead of them.

I agree with you again, Roman. I hope that's not establishing a trend. Starting Orton makes good sense. Let's see what he can do besides "manage the game." I also agree with Mike's comments about the offensive ( both definitions of the word ) line. They have been pathetic, unable to open any holes for the backs and unable to protect the quarterback on pass plays. Urlacher on defense has also had a bad year, letting runners come right up the middle and getting out of position on pass protection over the middle. How many third and longs were completed on slants in the middle, and where was B. U.?

One thing we can agree on: the blocking on the O side of the ball this year has been bad. It is unclear whether it is mostly O line, or largely due to the fact that we have a multi-million dollar back who cant learn a blitz-pickup blocking scheme. Or make a tackler miss. Or run very fast.

Hard to imagine that Orton is going to have much of a chance with the caliber of protection that got both Grossman and Orton hurt this year. The only thing that saves Benson in my mind is that Peterson has done no better, and if we take the O line's pass blocking as any indication, they are probably less efficient run blockers this year, too. The coaching staff MUST know what the O line problem areas are. Those have to be top off season priorities. Our offensive woes begin and end with the line. Our receivers aren't bad. Moose is still good, Olsen is developing, Berrian is a stud, Davis drops too many but has talent. Not may receivers have All Pro years with musical QB's going on.

On defense, we need new safeties (Mike Brown is a god, but 3 years in a row hurt?), better interior linemen (or a healthy Tommie Harris and Dusty Dvoracek) and we need to give Alex Brown his job back--he is probably our best every down run stopper and decent on the pass. Mark Anderson has disappeared being an every down player. We will need to know whether Urlacher is permanently done due to back pain or whether he can recover. We'll need to resign that crybaby Briggs as well as Hillenmeyer.

With the injuries and problems, you have to ask whether this is really any kind of fair shot for Orton--our starts ahead of them coulnt win with this team--but now we expect him to do so?

I like the idea of seeing what Orton can do. Hopefully the wide receivers will catch a ball for him, unlike 2005. We already know that Griese is the Archuleta of the offense (a shadow of what he once was). Let's see Orton, the more mobile (a sad thought) and tallest qb on the roster, light it up like he was at Purdue.
Next year, we should bring back Rex (if we can get him cheap), lose Griese, keep Orton (unless he hasn't improved since his rookie ), and get Colt Brennan. That guy is a winner.

Of course no one can win a game behind "revolving door" linemen like Fred Miller. I've never seen so many look-out blocks in my life.

But safety is the next big position needed. Archuleta looks old and slow after the hand injury (although he and Mike Brown did look great in the San Diego game this year). Daniel Manning is not the answer to any Jeopardy question except "Name the other bears safety that smells like burnt toast after a passing play." The defense is completely different without Mike Brown.

It would be great to get a running back, but I have a strange feeling we'll be getting Michael Turner through free agency.

And I hope we don't get Donovan McNabb. Although he would have been a better pick in 99 than kid Cade McNown, he'll be out of the league in a few years, taking a stairway elevator up and down his mansion due to too many injuries. He's the walking wounded... a warrior with his best days behind him. He's better playing the role of Homer, recounting the glory days and retelling the epic of a new hero (hopefully one not killed by his own offensive line).

booooooooooring.

Post about something about which people will say blatantly wrong things for me to make fun of!

If memory serves, Kyles biggest plus was not throwing the game away, something neither of his team mates has managed to master on a consistent level.
I'm all for giving him a shot.
If nothing else he'll be able to showcase his skills for a possible departure through trade or free agency, though I'd like to see him remain a Bear.

Roman responds: If my memory serves, he threw like six interceptions in a blowout loss to Cincinnati at Soldier Field.

Who should start at quarterback?!? Isn't that kind of a rhetorical question? The options are Griese and Orton. Isn't the answer obvious?

Orton was serviceable back in the day as a rookie; hopefully he'll have absorbed more of the offense and will be better equipped to execute it.

Speaking of execution, that's what the Bears seem to be doing to Orton. The OL is a sieve, the running game couldn't win a game of tag and the receivers do anything but catch the ball. Orton is going to have to perform three Christmas miracles for the Bears to have a shot at winning any of these final games. I just hope his performance down the stretch isn't judged by wins and losses alone and I certainly hope wins and losses won't effect whether he's back next year. I urge the Bears' brass to look at footwork, accuracy and decision-making. And took look at a QB, OL, LB, RB and S in the draft.

FedRex to some distant outpost where they don't even know Chicago exists and don't tell Griese where next year's training camp is going to be. Start from scratch at QB. McNabb is the next Steve McNair, and would you even want him with his recent injuries starting behind the Bears' OL unless they add like four new guys to the rotation?

The whole team is a mess, top to bottom.

I know he can't possibly do this after two years off, but for Orton to survive this game (yes, just survive), he needs to be nearly perfect. After the first two downs in the Bears' first possession -- of course, both runs -- the Bears will be relegated to operating as a one dimensional team. The Vikings will swarm the o-line, probably have 8 or 9 players in the box and stuff all runs.

Orton would be better off to audible... often. He'll need to find his tight ends quickly and/or dump off to Peterson or (preferably) Wolfe. He's got the arm to go deep and it wouldn't be bad to try a deep ball the first possession -- maybe even the first play. Put Hester and Berrian on the same side of the field with Hester in the slot. Tell Hester he needs to prove he's fast and can catch. Then throw a bomb and see if he can catch up to it.

Again, I know Orton will probably follow Ron Turner's game plan -- no matter how limiting -- but if he has a pair of cojones, it would be nice to seem him run a possession the way he wants, not the way Turner wants. Orton wants to show there is a new sheriff in town -- so do it.

For the Bears to make this game competitive, the tight ends will probably need about 15-20 catches between them and they can't allow themselves to be tackled by one Minnesota defender. They both have the size to punish a secondary and need to do it. Wolfe and Hester also could do some damage, but they need to catch the ball in space and make the best of it. Our offensive play calling hasn't been able to do that for most of the season. Who knows, maybe Monday night will be a first. With Orton's height, quick slants may also work against the Vikes, but Muhammad isn't so quick and I think Berrian might get a case of alligator arms if asked to run too many quick slants.

Anyway, it will be fun to watch Orton play. Too bad it didn't happen much earlier in the season.

My thing is......if Kyle Orton was any improvement..he would have been in a game already.
Now Kyle will have his opportunity, hopefully he does real well.

I don`t see the Bears doing a whole lot in improving this team,
can`t trust this management is so cheap....and the really good free agents will not come to Chicago because its such a hassle.

He`ll find some running back with serious a injury sitting around, and try to nurse him alone at our expense.
At quarterback he`ll bring back Rex and its business as usual....
the old Chicago Way.

So they hope to have Dusty Durecek back....maybe Tommie will heal
up ok,and if Mike Brown wants another try at it ok with them.
So I really am not optimistic with these guys running the team.

I LOVE Orton as a starter! Grossman has FAILED the Bears all year! And griese is too old and inconsistant. I think Griese should stay as QB, but I personnally want Grossman GONE!!! Grossman cost the Bears and the city a Superbowl victory. If Grossman isn't released, i will become a packers fan! Orton is a fresh QB known to do wonders for the Bears and I HIGHLY expect wonders from him. I can't wait to see him perform Monday night, I even expect 4 touchdown passes from. He is the future and excitement of future Chicago Bears football!!

Culzie I don't like Rex because he is ineffective. But that still does not mean he doesnt have talent. But we just didnt have time to wait on it. Now that our RUN is over - time to send in the prospects. Our Defense deserved a STARTER, not a LEARNER - but thats what we got. Griese is ahead of the learning curve and should have been our starter. A starter is the BEST QB, not the one with the most potential.

Yeah!! Go O-Town!!

HAHAHAHA!! All that guy needs is a bottle of Jack Daniels and he's good to go! Why spend millions per year when all you have to pay is 14 bucks a weekend? That should open up some salary cap room to get Briggs, the FUTURE of the linebacking crew!

We hate to love you Bears! But you give us no choice!

Pass the JD over here, Kyle.

I wish we could post pictures here. I'd Photoshop a picture of Tait and Miller standing together wearing cowboy hats.

CAPTION: The Lone Snappers. Only they know the true snap count.

Thanks for not posting that message I made in February. In general, you catch more flies with honey than vineguar.

Get your #18 Jerseys....your 8's and 32's will be polishing your 20's next year....look at the bright side, boys...you'll have the most expensive wheel cleaning rags in the neighborhood....which, I'm sure...is important to Culzie..

Kyle is our QB...and it will be that way for a long time..

there's your pray tell...consider yourself pray told

Sweeney sez: "I can throw it pretty far I will give it a whirl. I can't make it Monday but after that I think I am free for the rest of the games."

I think we should give Sweeney a shot.

How much worse could he possibly be than what we've already seen?

Bear One sez: "My thing is......if Kyle Orton was any improvement..he would have been in a game already."

You have to understand the mindset at Halas Hall in order to fully comprehend the decision making process here.

"Rex is our quarterback"

This statement was repeated ad nauseum, even when Rex was posting goose egg QB ratings.

It doesn't matter whether or not Kyle is a better quarterback; what matters is that Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo would sooner wash Tom Brady's underware than admit they made a mistake.

Case in point: Although the defense has suffered some serious injuries, the fact of the matter is that their overall stats have taken a nose dive since Babich replaced Rivera. Slice it and dice it any way you want, but although Buddy Bob has undoubtedly come up short, Lovie will lay the blame elseware.

Angelo made the call on dumping Jones in order to validate his selection of Bensen with a first round pick.

How did that decision work out?

Last I recall, "Three Yards And A Cloud Of Dust" Bensen was being carted off the field on a stretcher.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Angelo to say, "I F@%*#& Up".

It matters not whether Orton's an improvement. He's in there because the geniuses in Lake Forest have run out of options, and the next guy on the depth chart at that position is a tight end.

But you won't hear that at any of their press conferences.

If i hear Red Kerr refer to the Bulls as a young team one more time im gonna puke!!!

I really don't care who Q.B.s at this point, but a few more quick slants, passes over the middle to the backs, and long throws on first down would REALLY BE NICE, TURNER! I just don't feel like jumping from the Bears game to 'House Of Frankenstein' again due to the consistantly frustrating play calling, nothing more, TURNER! If we throw out of the shotgun on Rex' last play, he's still with us. I'm having trouble believing we have a competent group running our show. I know I'd like to see which one of my lineman was falling, and what better view to get out of the way than five yards back, Duh! What a waste of entertainment, seeing that's all that's left. Even John Carradine, as the worst Dracula I've ever seen, had me avoiding the same ol' same ol' of the Bears. THAT'S BAD!

I have to ADMIT the politics at Halas Hall is a nut grinder.....
The games played at the office make GAME DAY look like a SUNDAY
SCHOOL PICNIC.
I did not believe we would miss RON RIVERA but its so evident now.
Lovie got p... at him for looking for a job, every week.
So he did what most Companies do after you don`t find a job fast
they fire you.
And the Beat goes on.
McNabb will not even consider the Bears until they bring big Runyon with him and a real good left guard.
He also wants a DOME STADIUM!
Remember get LOVIE a cheat sheet and sunglasses and somebody to talk to......Run Tell That.

I hear Fukudome has a great arm!

OT, but - Culzie did you notice when Wayne Larravee (talk about a face for radio!) asked Red Kerr who he thought was the most improved Bulls player from last year? He couldn't come up with an answer - and he was right!

On "The Herd" on ESPN radio they said.....Dick Juron ...Coach of the Year.

How you like dem apples??

BCulz: If WE say the Bulls are a young team, will you also puke? Is there a keypad symbol for that ... e.g., ;-0?

Also, why post Bulls bon mots on a Bears string? Not enough feistiness on the Bulls string? Kinda like how the team is playing as a whole, eh?

Hitman:

Sometimes your posts are so cryptic that they are tough to decipher, but this one was hilarious:

"Get your #18 Jerseys....your 8's and 32's will be polishing your 20's next year....look at the bright side, boys...you'll have the most expensive wheel cleaning rags in the neighborhood"

Can someone go back and find my Hypothetical List of Sarters that I predicted at the Begining of the year...

Remember...

it was..

Rex
Griese
Rex
Griese
Rex
Orton.....

something like that wasnt it??

HAHAHA

Total Visionary!

Sweeney...aka Chad Hutchinson?

The decision to take Kyle out of the starting qb rotation after a successful 2005 contradicted Lovie statement of "there is competition for each position". Rex was handed the job because he is the first round qb. The stubborn coaches and GM invested money in him and Haynes in the 1st round and could not admit they have what turns out to be a strong armed qb, oft injured, mentally not ready to handle the pressure, with flashes of brilliance mixed in.

Kyle Orton remember was a rookie and won 9-10 games that 1st season and the coaches "we like what we see in Chad" Lovie went with Rex. Hindsight like predicting what happened last year is easy but stability and consistancy when evaluating players especially on offense is an area that needs great improvement by Lovie and Jerry Angelo. They've done a good job on defense but offense and espcially role players they are struggling. Boone, Worrell, Johnson, Thomas Jones, Harris at safety.

To keep with the short answers of Lovie and Brian, A team like a chain is as good as its 45 links. Folks we'e not that far off. Give this Amish looking guy a chance. He seems like he's tough as nails, will probably struggle at first but with some good coaching he will do well. He's played at Purdue and is used to playing in cold weather and has the height and vision to see the field. Oh and by the way how bout playing Hass more and Bradley. GO Bears

Bculz1,

It's Chuck 1, and I guess I get shotgun back, huh?

Roman is throwing bombs (can I call Orton pick 6 too? that was a great stat). The defense has not gotten worse since Rivera left, it has gotten worse since Mike Brown left.

Orton had 9 TD's and 13 Int's in about 14 games, and he is to be our savior? WOW!! So here's our team now :~( Orton(pick 6), AP for three!!(yards, that is), Bernard (don't make me jump for it!), and Papa (I will not get loose) Moose (T.I. shout out) with our line.....can I get a sack or 10??

As I have said, Grossman is the best qb on this team this and last season,(Griese just proved my point this year, and Kyle will too sooner or later.) That being said, we need a real qb here, and I do not care who, we can keep the two kids though?

Seedy, it's not impossible, didn't Collins do it to us last week with, like, his whole NFL career off?

Chuck1:

Yes, Todd "Don't call me Tom" Collins did it to the Bears. But that was against the Bears' D... not the Vike's D.

Let's hope Kyle doesn't resort to throwing rainbow dreams like Collins did. I'm sure Collins' hi-arching passes tantalized our crack Bears secondary. Unfortunately, they moved like molasses in wintertime trying to break them up. I believe the Vikings may react just a step or three more quickly than our team did.

thank you, Seedy

I'm glad that Orton will finally get a chance, But why did they not say he will be the starter for the remaining games? Are they stil thinking of putting Wrecks back in?
Orton might be a total disaster...he might not, but at least you know what you have to work with so that you can prepare for next year...Wrecks is not the answer and Griese is ok as a backup
I hope Orton kicks ass...they cant strike out on every player...can they?

Darryl M. must be smiling too much to chime in. I know that guy broke out his #18 jersey like Sunday night after Rex got hurt. It doesn't matter who we start because we will never find a QB that fans in this town will ever like. Even before Rex started stinking last year we had a few guys who couldn't put what he did in preseason behind him or in proper perspective. He was just trying to implement some things and some guys thought that he didn't look good doing it. It's no mystery that preseason is meant to see whether or not certain plays will work and that's why some plays are bigger busts than others. But guys can't put that behind them. Now people seem to forget that Orton was looking pretty lost around the time that Rex replaced him. It wasn't like he was all-world and he was lighting it up. He was looking worse than Rex looked at the start of this sesason. Sitting him put him out of his misery, too. But since he intially overachieved he wasn't supposed to sit when Rex was ready but we know he should have. Football isn't like baseball where you have time to wait for a guy to work through his slump. Football is more mental and a guy can actually get worse while playing and totally lose his confidence. That's Rex this year and Orton in 2005. If he was doing every single thing that they needed him to do we would've never went out and got Griese. But although we say that the coaches can't see true talent here you have to understand that going out and getting Griese was not cheaper than they are known for doing. Why spend money that wasn't needed? When have they ever done that? Both Rex and Orton were signed for at least 2 more years after 2005. These guys don't spend money that they could've saved. That alone speaks volumes. And we know for certain that Orton will not look any better than either of these other guys looked. We have nothing to lose by starting him. Maybe he will light it up. I doubt it ,but it's like a trainwreck either way. And of course I'm gonna slow down and watch it. GO BEARS!!

Orton needed to do one thing...grow up and realize the frat party was over...he's done that

Think about this...Kyle comes out after his Junior year...he's projected first round, people...he doesn't...his team graduates around him...his Senior campaign hurts him...he's projected as a 2nd rounder at best...we get him in the 4th..

He threw for over 9,400 yards in college...4th best in the History of the Big Ten..

In 2005...he struggles as a rookie for us, but this is what I saw...

He stands in the pocket...can step up in the pocket...and can take a blind side hit and not fumble (ball in one hand)...and he has a cannon for an arm...

but his lack of knowledge in the offense and lack of timing with the receivers is evident....(ie..the accuracy issue)..also, some key drops on passes he did make...well, he wasn't far along enough in the offense to bounce back from it...and he didn't...

and let's not forget he knew Rex was going to be handed the job back anyway...Couple all that with his off the field antics...Ehhh, what can I say...he deserved the demotion...not in favor of Rex...but in spite of himself

And also the reason he partied thru last year too...Kyle knows he's better than Rex...it's not even close...I don't blame him for taking it hard

But he came back this year as a professional... from what I saw in pre season...but most importantly...what his team mates were saying in training camp...he was the best QB on the roster

ok, everything has ran it's course...He's the starter...and coupled with the synergy he obviously has with Greise....this is gonna be good

Kyle Orton will not relinquish this job again...

and no, Culzie..I'm not happy for me...I'm happy for Kyle

Kyle is our QB...

Willy is the first guy to actually pull out real contract info...love that.

I guess I shouldnt get that Ditka jersey for Xmas then>>??

Hitman..I like you better when you just espouse random lines of quasi poetry!!!

Hitman:

Quite a statement. I like Kyle, too, but you are out on a limb. I will climb out there a little ways, but leave you at the end of the branch.

I like Orton because it looks like the two years riding the bench added some much needed real world perspective to his personality. While he can grab a beer with the linemen (Griese can't), I wouldn't be surprised to see him grab Fred Miller's facemask in the huddle and light him up for another missed blocking assignment. Neither Griese or Grossman would ever consider that -- or could pull it off, for that matter.

I hope he plays like a maniac and brings a little fun to the Bears' offense (okay, Hitman, I may be out on the end of the tree limb now). I hope he throws a pass and then decks one of the Viking's linemen who has let up so as not to "rough" the passer. I hope he shows some of the mettle that I believe is inside him, but gets bottled up in the Lovie-Robbie-the-Robot mechanized QBs we tend to favor.

We are 5-8 and going nowhere fast.

Kyle, turn off the helmet receiver and run the offense the way you want.

It will surely be better than anything the "Nimrod in the Sky" comes up with.
