Sosa talked about uppers? Who cares?
I can't believe Sammy Sosa made the front page of the Tribune today. You would have thought he confessed to taking steroids.
I mean, this couldn't be a more innocuous reference to an athlete. Someone allegedly heard Sosa and other players talk about how they would play after baseball banned amphetamines. Huh?
Does anybody care?

Comments
No roid confession needed for Sosa...the whole decade of the 90s and early 2000s was dirty.
Roman responds: No argument. But amphetamines? Please. The story should be about an athlete who doesn't take some type of upper before games.

I wonder if he also took cold medicine that is kept behind the counter? This is a total non-story.

This is borderline irresponsible journalism. Especially the Tribsters whose headline had me thinking that they caught him with the needle in his 4th point of contact. I've talked about robbing a bank too but it doesn't mean I should be convicted of it.

The Tribune is a JOKE!!! Looking for dirt in a bottle of Pine-Sol are we? I will love Sammy forever because of the memories he provided me. NOTHING will ever change that. It does not mean I never wondered if his name would ever surface regarding roids. However, what does that Tribune story have to do with anything? Pitiful! Happy Holidays Chicago Sports Fans. Cheers to 4 World Championships next year for our beloved Cubs, Sox (yeah right), Bulls, and Bears!

greenies have been in baseball longer than steroids. i would bet if you asked players from before the steroid era they could tell you about teammates or even their own use of greenies. find a real story will ya please

The uppers explain why he had all those ticks...
the thump of the chest...
the peace sign...
the hop...
the water over the face and head (not once, but several times)...
leaving the ballpark early
Wonder if he washed them down with coffee?
Now there's a headline for the Tribune:
IN TEARFUL CONFESSION, SOSA CLAIMS, "I WASHED DOWN UPPERS WITH STARBUCKS COFFEE."
Subhead: Still gets jitters at night.

While the Trib certainly did have a misleading headline, there is no room to talk at the Sun Times. As long as they employ Greg Couch and Jay Mariotti, they have no credibility at all.

Why isn't anyone talking about what kept Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Gabby Harnett, or other old-timers going?
Steroids, HGH, and uppers are the new drugs, but, what was being used in he old days? If people claim nothing, that's BS.

The main thing I noticed is how quick the rush to put a asterisk by the records of accused minorities subsided when the majority of steroid users in the mitchell report ,turned out to be white, now since caucasian players like Rodger Clemens jr. has been implicated the lynch mob mentality has subsided, how hypocritical is that?.Racist sportswriters like Jay mariotti who constantly make false accusations should be fired.Sosa is owed a big apology along with other accused minority players who were unfairly targeted, racism is based on fear and ignorance.Racism and violence is american as apple pie.
