Okay, is anyone watching the NBC pregame show? They just used my Many Happy Returns headline in their "Monday Morning Headlines" segment!!!! Hey Roman, if it's good enough for Bob Costas...........
I believe the bears should fire ron turner. His been with the bears for year's & not accomplished anything as a offensive coordinator.
PLease fire him?
oh I think I do like it....at least when I heard from nbc FIRST. Maybe you should RETURN to the drawing board.
oh...and just in case they decide to use my headline for the Rose Bowl...I'll post it now so there is no confusion.
TROJANS NOT PROTECTIVE
When are you gonna have a thread for the Rose Bowl Mr Modrowski?
Well, if you don't do it by tomorrow then you just might as well as wait til next year.
Well, if you check the time of my post, rewind your TiVo, compare it to the time Cris Collinsworth stole MY headline, you would know that I wrote it FIRST. Maybe YOU should get up off the couch.
The more I think about it, the headline I'd most like to see after the conculsion of this season would be:
Bears Launch Lovie!
Smith's stubborn, intractable philosophy was a factor of equal or even greater importance than injuries in regards to the dismal way this season played out.
He hires "Yes Man" Babich, and the defence regresses to the lowest rung on the league's ladder. And his willingness to toe the company line when it comes to bust out first round picks is shameful.
"Rex is our quarterback."
"Cedric is our running back."
"Tampa Two ... Tampa Two ... Tampa Two"
Lovie's complete lack of imagination and flexibility, along with his proven inability to adapt is the biggest reason that we're not competing in the post season. It's all the more infuriating when you look at some of the teams that are; along with a few of the others that barely missed. We were right there.
Once you take the cream from the top, the rest of the league is nothing more than mediocre. And with the NFL's sudden death / win or go home playoff format anything could have happened had we reached the post season.
I'm not saying that this team is great by any means, nor am I implying that they even belong on the same field with the Patriots or the Cowboys. I just wanted the opportunity to see how we might have matched up against teams like Tampa Bay or Seattle. I already know that we're capable of beating the Giants and the Redskins, because we came pretty damned close to beating both of them.
The main reason that the Bears aren't in the playoffs is Lovie Smith.
Hiya Roman Happy New Year. Just got back to the ole blog myself Great game but the previous nights fights were way better. Tough luck for the local Terry Martin but it was a great fight anyway. Welcome back. I have to say my reading speed went up a few wpm thanks to Ricky.
I'm not giving you a headline. I merely want to tell people not to fly off the handle over the Bulls' comeback win vs. Charlotte. The win is nice, but the Bulls played horrible ball in the first half, and they won against a me-first squad that doesn't play team ball. It's like winning a comeback vs. the Knicks, but only slightly more impressive.
With the kind of season he’s having in Cleveland, Derek Anderson figures to be a hot commodity if the team lets him go this offseason. It wouldn’t necesarily be surprising if they did so, given what the team invested to draft Brady Quinn a season ago, but the more likely scenario is a new contract or applied franchise tag.
2. Rex Grossman - UFA - Chicago Bears
Contrary to popular belief, the Chicago Bears offensive woes are not due entirely to Rex Grossman. Rather, he’s been the victim of a poor offensive coordinator and inferior running game.
With that said, there’s no real telling whether the Bears will invest any more seasons in Grossman, despite having no suitable replacement on hand. Nor is there a quarterback in the draft who will be able to walk in and be better than Grossman. And Lovie Smith has been at his defense at many times throughout the season.
No matter what you think of him, Grossman is a young, serviceable quarterback who could succeed in the right situation with the right coaching. Whether that will be in Chicago or not, we’ll need to wait and see.
3. Daunte Culpepper - UFA - Oakland Raiders
Maybe at one time Culpepper would be a hotter commodity at quarterback, but it’s grown more obvious over the years that he’s nothing without great protection and at least one great receiver (Randy Moss in Minnesota). Of course, Culpepper is a fine backup if he chooses to seek a position like that. Chances are, however, his pride will dictate he searches for a team that needs a starting quarterback, though I can’t think of any team that needs a starter of Culpepper’s caliber at this point.
4. Josh McCown - UFA - Oakland Raiders
Again, this is a player who will likely lose his spot with JaMarcus Russell stepping into the full time role next season. He may sign a new deal to remain Russell’s backup, but it seems likely he’ll seek work elsewhere. Unfortunately, being in Oakland, McCown didn’t have the opportunity to show his true worth to any interested teams.
5. Cleo Lemon - UFA - Miami Dolphins
Lemon is likely known only because of his time as a starter in Miami this season, though he did have some flashes of potential. He has a degree of athleticism working in his favor and his skills as a passer are acceptable, but he’ll likely find nothing more than a spot as a backup this offseason.
Ok, since there are no FREE AGENTS available....here is what the draft experts are saying...(i looked at over 15 mock drafts..this one was just the easiest to re-post.)
In every mock draft..they are saying...Bears will take Brohm or Woodsen...?? Isnt woodsen only like 6 feet tall?? Not another one...
2008 NFL Mock Draft
by Ricky Dimon, Updated Wednesday, January 2, 2008
MIA Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Running back Ronnie Brown will return in 2008 and John Beck is probably the long-term plan at QB in Miami (although we'll see what Bill Parcells has to say about that), so the Dolphins shouldn't go with one of those positions. That's just as well because they need major help on defense. Dorsey would have been the first DT taken in 2007, but he went back to LSU and now he'll be the first player taken overall.
STL Jake Long, OT, Michigan
Long is an absolute mammoth of a player and he is by far the best offensive lineman in this draft class. That's just what the doctor ordered for the Rams. Their problem is not that they don't have talent at the skill positions, it's that their skill players are always injured and need help. Long should do wonders for both QB Marc Bulger and RB Steven Jackson.
ATL Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
The pressure to take Brian Brohm will be off now that Bobby Petrino is out of Atlanta. Ryan's stock isn't quite as high right now as it was when he had a Heisman-esque start to the season, but it will be sky high after the NFL combine. Ryan has all the physical and mental tools to succeed at the next level.
OAK Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
McFadden ran all over some of the best defenses in college football this season, so it's clear he is ready to make an instant impact on Sundays. That's exactly what the Raiders need in their backfield, as LaMont Jordan slowed to a halt this season and Justin Fargas is not the answer. You can bet Al Davis won't let an opportunity to take McFadden--and pair him with JaMarcus Russell--pass him by.
KC Chris Long, DE, Virginia
Long, the son of Hall of Famer Howie Long, led the ACC with 13.5 sacks this season despite facing constant double-teams and did all he could to keep Texas Tech's high-powered offense in check. With Long opposite Jared Allen on the defensive line, the Chiefs would boast an outstanding pass rush.
NYJ Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State
The Jets would love to get Chris Long, but they probably squandered that chance by winning their last game. Gholston, however, could be just as good. Gholston's stock is on the rise after some great performances for Ohio State late in the season. He is an all-in-one kind of lineman who excels at both stopping the run and getting to the quarterback.
NE James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State
The Patriots are only getting older at linebacker and they need an influx of young talent there. Laurinaitis is just the kind of player Bill Belichick loves. At 6-3, 240 pounds and with great speed, he can do it all at linebacker
BAL Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
Baltimore needs a quarterback, as veteran Steve McNair is old, injured, and was a huge disappointment there. Kyle Boller is serviceable, but he is not the long-term solution. Same for Troy Smith. Woodson has more potential than any QB the Ravens' franchise has ever seen.
CIN Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
The Bengals struggled mightily this season, but as usual their most glaring needs showed up on defense. They'll have to able to at least somewhat stop the run next season, and Ellis would be a huge help in that department. He is a bit undersized, but that won't stop him from having a major impact at the next level.
NO Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State
Problems abound on the defensive side of the ball for the disappointing Saints, especially in the secondary, where cornerback is the team's biggest need. Jenkins has the size and top-notch speed to make an instant impact in New Orleans. He also has experience, having started at Ohio State since he was a freshman in 2005.
BUF Dan Connor, LB, Penn State
The Bills went offense in the 2007 draft when they took RB Marshawn Lynch, so they now must address a struggling defense. Linebacker is their biggest concern, so they would love it Connor, who was awesome at Penn State, fell to them here. He is a versatile athlete who could play either in the middle or outside for Buffalo.
DEN Keith Rivers, LB, USC
Rivers might be undersized for a linebacker, but he makes up for that with exceptional speed and his stock should be on the rise after a big Rose Bowl. The Denver defense has plenty of holes, but linebacker is a particular area of need. Rivers would play in the middle, allowing the Broncos to move D.J. Williams back to outside linebacker where he belongs.
CAR Calais Campbell, DE, Miami (FL)
Mike Rucker is 33 and could leave via free agency. At 6'8'', Campbell is a monster on the end of the defensive line and a pair of Campbell and Julius Peppers would be almost unstoppable. Carolina would also consider safety Kenny Phillips--or a quarterback--here.
CHI Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Chicago needs a QB of the future, as it's obvious that neither Rex Grossman, Brian Griese, nor Kyle Orton is the long-term or short-term solution. Brohm is a little bit under the radar right now due to the Cardinals' sub-par season, but he has all the talent in the world and should impress in off-season workouts.
DET Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
It's past time for the Lions to go defense in the first round, and cornerback is a glaring need. Jenkins could be the best athlete at cornerback in this class and he has the size and speed to be staple at the position for years.
ARI Kenny Phillips, S, Miami (FL)
Yet another great play-making safety out of Miami, Phillips is definitely the best safety on the board. He would be a steal with this pick, so even though there are greater concerns for the Cardinals' defense, they have to grab Phillips.
Bculz, hey man, didn't Anderson end up with like 19 ints. He also was slowed his last few games, kinda reminds me of Rexy. If the Bears go after a qb in the first round(ohh I hope not.) Let it at least be the #1 pick.
Culpepper sucked even with Moss there, Moss was just good enough to cover his mistakes. Once they decided to put Williamson there, we all saw his inaccuracy. A lot like Kyle Orton, Big, Medium to strong armed, and very inaccurate.
DUMB(Lovie Smith)DUMBER(Cedric Benson)have spoken, now the DUMBEST(Jerry Angelo) speaks."We have a great coaching staff, great offensive talent and Rex played well this season. We want him back." Most off-base comments since someone claimed the Titanic was unsinkable!
1. My Mom...she rules...bad 40 time...cant catch....it's the intangibles I'm drafting on here
2. Larry Mayer...he doesn't know how to grip a football...ie..see chicago bears hompage..he will be here at 2

3. Sid Luckman....exume this guy...I'm tired of talking about QB's
4. Jonathan Stewart...Let him where #28 or exume Gallimore too
5. Stan Thomas...It doesn't matter who protects Luckman...he's already dead
6. William Perry...Just because I miss him
We should make a qb talent evaluation guide and send it to Halas Hall...ok, I'll start...
1. No Jims..they get hurt
2. If a QB chooses #8..cut him immediately
3. All QB's should have a right and a left shoe...not two of the same
4. Muscle memory classes do not cure #3
5. Florida QB is an oxymoron....might as well draft Santa
6. Caution: Tim Tebow needs his eyebrows waxed too
7. Coaching up the snap exchange is no longer acceptable
When Rex is backing up Henry Burris in Canada..my dream will be complete..

You know what I got for Christmas? Oh, it was a banner f'ing year at the old Bender family. I got a carton of cigarettes. The old man grabbed me and said, "Hey, smoke up Johnny."

2008 NFL Mock Draft

Kyle is Our QB
YOU FORGOT LAZY...STUPID AND DISRESPECTFU......SHUT UP B*TCH..GO FIX ME A TURKEY POT PIE!!!
Ahem......it's "UGLY, LAZY AND DISRESPECTFUL"

You know what I got for Christmas? Oh, it was a banner f'ing year at the old Bender family. I got a carton of cigarettes. The old man grabbed me and said, "Hey, smoke up Johnny."
