Game day: Bears vs. Redskins

| | Comments (102)

Rex is down. That looked like one bad injury, but he got up and walked off.

Brian Griese came in, but the word is he will not return. It's a knee injury.

Greasy is in... the bears might be lucky to score 10 pts.

I'm starting Berrian in a fantasy playoff game... I am screwed.

ditto (hopefully lesss so) with Gould.

Griese throws another pick when we're gonna score....and the Skins score...

ok Lovie...grow a pair...

or is Orton inactive for today's game...

Watching this pathetic team, I can't help but believe what everyone has been telling me since last year. This team got extremely lucky last year and did not deserve to go to the Superbowl. They are simply not that good, they are not even average.
I hope the few (AND I MEAN FEW) good players on this team don't realize that this team is going nowhere and decide to jump ship.
This sucks!!!

ok Lovie...you don't need a pair ...2 picks ....Orton

Roman responds: But if he comes on before the fourth quarter, he has to finish. And if he gets injured, then who plays QB: direct snap to Hester?

I don't know who I hate more, Brian Griese or Bryant Gumbel.

Greise couldn't have ended the half any worse than he did. if the defense or Hester don't score it's over right now.

GOD CAN ONLY HELP US NOW

The Bears are flat-lining, time to tune into ER to see if they make it.

Up until the TD, the game has been the battle of the low testosterone kickers and backup quarterbacks.

Roman responds: But if he comes on before the fourth quarter, he has to finish. And if he gets injured, then who plays QB: direct snap to Hester?

Yep...and so

That's a chance ya gotta take, man...this is the season ...Orton's a big strong dude...he won't get hurt...

Whoever the idiot is who was singing about Rex and Ced being hurt doesn't know football. The guys who are in now are much worse.

Roman responds: Yeah, I missed that one. I hate when people celebrate injuries. I deleted a similar post.

Do the Bears defense think it's open-field tickling or tackling?

Sad sad sad...
Since Lovie will not play Orton and Wolfe there is no real reason for me to watch the rest of this crap.

If they resign grossman to a cheap 3 year deal, like they were leading up to, we'll get to see this kind of football for years to come.

Angelo is here until 2013. If he brings back grossman, then he can still blame it all on lovie and fire lovie in 2 years and hire the next coach. This will go on for about 6 or 7 more years.

The only hope is the team gets sold and the new owners clean house, but that won't happen until there is a generational change in ownership maybe 10 or 20 years. Lovie might even learn how to coach by then. Maybe the NFL will start a developmental league and the Bears can be the charter franchise again.

Maybe the real Redskins are starting to show up

looks like someone told the receivers that when greise throws the ball up there like that that they can catch it too, not just the defenders.

Now if the defense can just stop somebody maybe Greise can lead the Bears to Victory again!!!

Bob Babich drops Tommie Harris into coverage, why not bring Mike Brown in on crutches? Game ball to Todd Collins and dunce cap to Babich.

haha...6-10....like I said...cuz of RexandCed

eat it

Griese was warming up. Defense couldnt hold them. Got beat for two touchdowns when we really needed a stop. No Hester, no chance.

Lord, Why am I a Bears fan?? Why??I think Im a sucker for punishment! I really don't have anything else to say at this point.

So AP is the answer? 14 carries for 40 yards? And folks were complaining about Benson.

I did like seeing Garrett Wolfe on the field.

Nice catch by Berrian on the TD in the corner.

That's about it. Defense can't stop anyone and Lovie is starting to get that deer in the headlights look on the sidelines.

Well, on the bright side, the Monday night game against Minnesota will get moved to Sunday

Start Kyle Orton for the rest of the season: at least see what the kid's got. The Bears are dead in the water anyway.

"I've never seen a team underachieve as much as this team." It is time for Ron Turner to be replaced. We are still running the same plays as last year and running a Cover 2 that is like a prevent defense. The penalties, 1st and goal and running the rb wide was disgusting. Lovie what do you do as a head coach. I rarely see you talking on your headset or reviewing plays. Where is Bradley, Rashied Davis. This is pathetic and disappointing. The zone defense doesn't work and these coaches need to be replaced except for Toub. Basic tackling arm tackling, throwing to a receiver in stride. Inexcuseable play by this team.

You have a qb who hasn't played since 2004 that you rush 4 guys and Lovie's buddy Babich does nothing to adjust again. Another on the job training disaster by the Bears organization. Let's get some quality coordinators and give us a chance to win these games. If you knew how much this means to our fans you would have you team prepared.

I did NOT want 2 see lil Barbie Grossman get hurt. I want him 2 play his way out of the NFL.

Once agian the Bears came unprepared 2 play. I just don't know what 2 think about this team. If it were NOT 4 Hester and Briggs this team would be completely useless.

Butch I was thinking the same thing about Harris. The guy can barely walk and they send him into coverage and have Brian blitz. Maybe Babich isn't the answer. Even though I'm not giving him a pass that doesn't mean I think that Rivera should still be here. Rivera didn't have the injuries that Babich has. But sending Harris back is the worst decision I've seen in quite a few years. And Collingsworth has no reason to criticize anyone about doing their job. The guy didn't know what was going on. Giving us advise about penalties and they're against the O instead of the D. I'm not gonna get on Gumble because he may think he knows sports announcing but it's his boss' job to know that he doesn't. Collingsworth has been around it a lot longer. He was absolutely bad and I won't watch anymore games he call with the sound on. I hate to sound morbid but did anyone else notice that when they did visuals of those two that Gumble looked like Richard Pryor after he contracted M.S.? It was eerie to me. I know the season is over but it's just the way the ball bounced. Who cares if they were lucky enough last year to win games. That assessment can be allowed for quite a few teams that year and this year. Everyone has luck. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. I'm not ready to say that their good luck made them NFC champions by playing the best at that time. People who want to throw "luck" around just don't want to give people their due. Brutal season that's all. Don't act like we've never had one. GO BEARS!!

the bears have to start wolfe and orton next week. wolfe was the only bright spot tonight and it's time to see if orton is worth keeping. these two could be the bears' future - maybe not. but we'll never know unless they get some playing time.

ITS AMAZING THAT PEOPLE STILL THINK REX AND CED HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BEARS...ITS SICKENING.

LIVE IN THE NOW ....

OH..AND...

WHERE WAS APjr? HE SUCKS?

GRIESE IS THE WORST, AND HE BLEW HIS 19TH CHANCE TO PROVE HIMSELF.

WE NEED HELP...

C'mon: Toub keeps his job because of what... Hester? Any fool could coach him. Maybe Toub should coach Maynard on how to flop when someone makes contact with him. Maybe he's get a penalty now and then. Everyone else does it.

Seedy...personally, I've known Benson was a bust during his Junior year in College....and Rex..he was exposed by Arizona and Miami

Rex was exactly what Dennis Green thought he was

I won't complain about our AP because he's a football player...and a good one

Pray for 5-11...although, I think we beat the Saints...Our Chemistry is so outta whack cuz of RexandCed, tho....don't think it can be fixed in a year....hope so...doubt it...the coaches and the GM blow too...lol

Wanna see a team?...Watch the Vikings...They're putting it together...Strong D..best lines...best RB's...Tavaris and Sidney Rice should be feared...Aundre Allison proving Troy Williamson is a bust like I said he would be...and Bobby Wade (I told you dumb @#%$#@$ 'bout him)..ie..he's always open and drops nothing

and you're all gonna get a good look at 'em next Monday...

Surprise!!! Minnesota is gonna win the NFC....

How is it that the opposing offenses keep getting HUGE chunks of yardage after the half? That's right, because the other team makes adjustments while the Un-bear-ables wait for the game to end in another loss. Oh yeah, thanks for putting Adam Archuleta back in as safety...just more salt in the wounds. As for Turner's play calling, it's the best way to get a QB hurt. And why in the world would you input Hester, untouchable on special teams, as an inexperienced wideout when Smith keeps saying that each game is a playoff game? I sincerely hope that Smith keeps Babich and Turner for a few more years, so that all three can get fired when the Un-bear-ables win 6 games in a two year span. Now all we need is for Angelo to get das boot.

The only good thing about it is; I dont have the NFL network.

I did listen to the radio stream and enjoyed Tom Thayer saying "is that what they are calling it" when Rex's injury report came in from the locker room.

My God, please do not tell me Mayor Daley will hang banners all over Chicago with his name proudly on the bottom after this lousy season. Maybe he should eat some humble pie.

The times needs to fire mariotti. That guy is the most negative person I've ever read a coulmn from. You can't even and enjoy the bears if they do anything good, at least if you read his column...

The problem with the Bears starts with the ownership who decided not to spend any real money in the off season on an aging offensive line and let our backup tackles go to avoid spending money. Football always starts up front. The 85 bears had dominant o and d lines. QB's like Tomzcack and backs like Gentry could excell behing domnant lines. Until we spend the money for those types of guys up front (look at the Vikes who spent all that money on Hutchinson, they now have a dominant o line to go with their d line) we will always struggle.

So was it nature or was it nurture...The injuries...Were the injuries caused by freaks of (nature) or were they caused by lack of preparation by our coaching staff (nurture)?

Blaming Rex and Ced...Do you clowns not realize that more than two people play on offense? Like, say, the suck ass O-line? Metcalf is a friggin' retard...Miller needs to go and so does Tait. Draft an o-lineman in the first round. Griese is good, receivers are good, TEs have been really good and RBs are good(see Wolfe?). It's just hard to see that w/ no protection and no holes being opened for running game...and all those friggin' penalties. Also, did anyone notice how the Skins' QB Collins went untouched and had hours to throw? Whay can't Turner devise that same scheme and let our guy have time to throw???

Oh yeah...Why is Miller starting in place of John St. Clair? St. Clair allowed only ONE sack to Grossman going up against pro-bowler Michael Strahan. Any answers?

This game never should have been played until Saturday.
Both teams were not in shape for a game after traveling for3 days.
This is I think the worst game that the Bears has played in many
many many years.
Two starting QBs went down and many more were hurt for what,TV.

Please....can somebody give Lovie A CHEAT SHEET,PENCIL,And DARK SUNGLASSES,it starting to look embarassing PLEASE.
I thought he would never throw the darn RED FLAG.

Griese was not prepared, looking like he had a buzz going.
Play for the DRAFT NOW.
Hester was the only SILVER LINING tonight...Learning to be a WR.
GO BEARS!

Thank you FOX-WPWR for the TV coverage.

time to see how Orton can play.. that's all this season is good for.

Depending on extent of Rex's injury, (probably torn acl) they have so many holes to plug on this team, hard to tell where to start.

Now that the season is unofficially over, perhaps it's time for management to think about house cleaning. By management I don't mean Angelo.Let's get a new GM and head coach.

Time to get rid of Rex for good this time and move on to someone else anyone else, and since we are cleaning up the offense let's not forget to FIRE RON TURNER he is the worst O coordinator in football, he ruined the ILLINI football team right after he ruined the Bears 7 yrs. ago and now he has ruined the bears again, the most predictable offense in all of football. FIND SOMEONE YOUNG AND INVENTIVE, WHOSE NAME ISN'T TURNER got it McCaskey now do it

the un-emotional,lazy and lathargic coaching staff has rubbed off on the entire team.why does this atrocious trio contiue to get a pass from the media? the media should grow a pair themselves...

can we please fast foward the next two years of lovie smiths contract.i cant watch 2 more years of this brand of football.if im not mistaken this is the same team that went to miami, how can they be this bad?6 and 10 after 13 and 3 last year, unbelieveable.do we really have to wait 2 more years to find it was disaster resigning him?please buy him out and get bill cowers phone number.

it's a shame Rex went down like that especially since he had been playing well lately. with that said, Griese is a known commodity and the bears are going nowhere so might as well see if Orton has matured at all on the side-lines. what's the worst that could happen a 5-11 record? that looks likely with Griese under center anyway. face it even if the Bears bring Rex back as a starter next season they need a CAPABLE back-up. twice last night Griese failed to get in the end zone from inside the 5 yard line. and some of his sucess passing last night was due more to highlight reel catches. but even more depressing was that the defense was carved up by a QB that hadn't has a game snap since 2004 and hadn't thrown a TD pass in this century!

To many key injuries, to many brain farts by the coaching staff, "but" There is enough talent that the Bears will be back next year! If the McCaskeys can open the purse strings and get us some good players to fill our needs..."Offensive line", "QB" and a running back that can run!! Personally I dont care much for Lovie Smith! Lets hope they can do better getting players then prince Kenny is doing for the WhiteSox!

Why didn’t we use Wolfe earlier in the season???… I understand he’s a rookie, but he averaged 4 yards per carry on rushing and averaged 9 yards receiving, that is pretty good. I guess “special weapons” were to be used when the season is over. We had Hester looking like a regular receiver on the 4-catch drive (given the mismatch), Olsen getting a lot more chances to get the ball, and Wolfe with some plays... Seems like we were shooting a Pepsi Max commercial where Angelo took over for Turner.

Lovie – grow some balls. You can’t sit there smiling during the half when that knucklehead throws two interceptions…. At least ACT like you’re angry!

BTW – see the difference between the two QB’s? Enough said….. Griese isn’t taking us anywhere might as well start Orton and Grossman if he can play again this year.

I can deal with an inept offense and Bear's fans have dealt with that for years but total collapse of a defense is embarrassing!!!! and it has happened over and over this year, and sometimes last year! I have never been so upset with the Bears, Babich, Lovie, where's the coaching? I could put a better defensive strategy together and I'm a woman.

"Hitman"

"I won't complain about our AP because he's a football player...and a good one"

ROTFL - Too funny.

So it looks like Jay Mariottis' boy is actually worse than Rex. Throws 2 picks. Throws a one on one touch down pass out of bounds! I actually feel sorry for Rex he'll go somewhere else with an O line and running game and be just fine. I think we need start looking at the D to wow are they bad. So Jay which QBs' band wagon you going to jump on next?

How long does this have to go on? The Super Bowl was a mirage. Jerry Angelo has done nothing of note since he arrived - good mid round picks and busts at the top. Lovie? A joke. Dick Jauron redux. Time to take a serious look at what he did this year. Fix what wasn't broken? Cover 2? I'm sorry, this guy isn't the answer - he's lost this team and he'll likely lose others. He's in over his head. Please bring a Bear back to run this team, front office and otherwise. Enough of this already.

Grading the "defensive backfield"! Tillman A-, R. Manning C, Mc Bride, C, D. Manning F, Archuleta F-. the Bears have had punters and quarterbacks who were better tacklers than D. Manning and Archuleta. How can the bears have 3-6 defenders surrounding a pass receiver and time after time the quarterback completes the pass to him, even Collins last night who was throwing floating duck passes that my dead, crippled grandmother could have knocked down.

BC, did you remember to put the First Aid Kit in the trunk?

Ok its finished, Maybe Lovie can get his coordinators to resign and Angelo can trade Briggs, Hester and Urlacher for an offensive and defensive line, quarterback, secondary and receivers, punter and draft another water boy from div. 2

What the hell happen? This is the same team that went to the Superbowl at the beginning of the year? The quarterbacking is horrific. The running game, Ha,Ha, to say its mediocre is giving it to much credit. Last up the defense, which is supposed to be the backbone of the team is pure and simple...OVER-RATED! I cannot even call this a decline, they just fell off a cliff. The question remains, what the hell happen?

Here's to you.....you miserable little whiner, you called out the team for being bad....and its you I blame for the seasons bad chemistry...all the cry baby nah sayers....who just refused to see the good in a situation and only looked for the negative, those so called fans, who would rather be RIGHT...and have their dumb predictions come true, versus be a real fan and support their team, no matter who took the field.

Here's to your lack of faith and your pre-season pessamism...that really help to deflate this teams spirits.

Way to go....you really came through for us. Whatta great fan.

I bet in your wacked out little world or un-reality you think that you are doing the Bears a favor. You almost think you are on the BEars Coaching staff....But I got news for you.....you arent.

Wake up call!!!
You live in a 900SF studio apartment on Western and Van Buren....and probably make Telemarketing Calls for a distribution center. YOU ARE NOT A BEARS COACH. YOU KNOW 0.

Do us all a favor...and move to NY or Greenbay....because..were sick of your schtick!!

While it is true that both quarter backs are not what we would like them to be, what about the offensive line that lets opposing teams run over them at will. If you hold them out they can do their job.

Hitman:

AP may be good as a third down back, but that's about it. A few games ago, when everyone was trumpeting his 5.5 ypc stat, I just kept waiting. The more any back runs behind our o-line, the faster the YPC average drops. He averaged 2 YPC last night. Kudos to AP.

I agree that our chemistry is out of whack, but that's been apparent since game 3 of this season. This team has taken on the personality of its head coach -- as many teams do. Unfortunately, our head coach shows little emotion -- as does this Bears team.

Let's play Orton and find out if there is a reason he was relegated to the 3rd string. We have little else to ponder this year.

Should be an interesting finish to our season as every team we face still has a mathematical chance to make the playoffs -- and two of them probably will. Let's watch if the team quits on Lovie. That will be telling and may suggest deeper fissures exist between the coaching staff and the players.

Still love the Bears, but given the holes in this team, 2008 looks pretty bleak.

The Bears offense is the most inept offense in the NFL.....hire a new offensive coordinator...or make Ron turner sit on the sidlines not that cushy seat in the box above the stadium so he can really hear the boos...the Bears offense has no imagination at all...last week they ran the no huddle on the first series and had the defense on their heals...and what doe Ron turner do??...he goes back to the huddle for the rest of the game..his answer to why they didnt stay with it he says when you have the lead you want to milk time off the clock???...a touchdown lead with more than 3 quarters to go is not a lead you sit on...i could understand if it was 21-0 thats a lead to try and milk the clock....and what the hell is wrong with jumping all over the opponent and beating them by 30 or more points(not that the bears offense could score that many)...anyways the Bears have reached an all time low with me after the last 2 weeks.......GO BLACKHAWKS!!!!!

The issue with the Bears is coaching and the lines. Ron Turner sucks at calling plays. He has more weapons this year and does not know how to utilize them. It's kinda hard to throw to Devin Hester when the only time you put him the game is when his number is called. Also he is the quickest guy on the field saw only 2 plays all year that sent him on a fly pattern. One was TD, the other was TD pass but he missed the catch but the separation was there. Kinda hard to run the ball when our passing game does not go beyond 10 yards therefore making it easy to stuff the run. The o-line is old and can't perform. I'd scrap everyone except Olin Kreutz and I think it is time to see what Josh Beekman can do. Defense line can't last an entire came due to fatigue. Adam Archuleta thinks he is playing tag. Bob Babich does not blitz enough and what was he thinking running a zone blitz and try to have Tommie cover Ladell Betts. The guy has a bad knee and he is luck to get a decent pass rush on the QB what makes him think he can cover a RB. We should be sending 8 to the QB on 3rd downs. Ron Rivera was a great DC and only reason he was let go because Lovie know that if he stuck around he would lost his job to him. All I can say is that Halas is turning over in his grave.

I have been watching the Bears all of my life and I must say record withstanding I have never seen such a dissapointing team. The expressions on their faces tell all. They dont have a care in the world. They have no fight in them. They are just rolling over and dying. I remember teams were fighting for wins having more energy than this team who is one year removed from the SuperBowl.
Our time has come and gone again and it is time to start over, both sides of the ball. The energy and chemistry are not their and I truly believe it is the defense saying that they have had enough of having to carry the load. Year after year they are in the spotlight and must it must be wearing thin on them. The line is old and needs to be revamped. With all the respect I have for Adrian Peterson, he is not a quality RB. Our QB's cannot get it done and we have maybe two decent receivers, one of which does not even get a chance to showcase what he may have (Mark Bradley). It is time for a makeover and Angelo better get a moving......out the door that is!

Headline: Bryant Gumbel makes partner uncomfortable.

The Bears did make some interesting adjustments on defense; but if the Bears are going to run a blitz and put Tommie Harris into coverage, they have to make sure that he commits to the pass. He was hesitating at the line far too long and should have been ten yards farther back by the time Coolie threw.

What's the deal with Tait and Miller? Forget the Superbowl; these guys need to be in the Crack Bowl, they were shaking and jumping on the line so much. I appreciate WRD's post concerining Sean Taylor. Oh, and by the way, Brady Quin doesn't throw subways anymore because his team needs him. If you'd sit and watch the whole commercial, instead of leaving for snacks, you'd know this.

NotmyrealnameortheoneIpicked: "Adam Archuleta back in as safety...just more salt in the wounds"

The one play I saw him in was when he tackled the RB for a loss. What's the problem?

Hitman: "Pray for 5-11...although, I think we beat the Saints...Our Chemistry is so outta whack cuz of RexandCed, tho....don't think it can be fixed in a year....hope so...doubt it...the coaches and the GM blow too...lol"

Right. Everyone sucks accept the QB who threw two interceptions.

"ok Lovie...grow a pair..."

"ok Lovie...you don't need a pair ...2 picks ....Orton"

First Grossman, now Griese.

Roman responds: "But if he comes on before the fourth quarter, he has to finish. And if he gets injured, then who plays QB: direct snap to Hester?"

Homage to Vick?

M & M: "Watching this pathetic team, I can't help but believe what everyone has been telling me since last year. This team got extremely lucky last year and did not deserve to go to the Superbowl. They are simply not that good, they are not even average."

Many good teams fail in the post season. We got to the SB last year because of our dominance on Defense, are relatively few penalties, the running ability of TJ, and the defensive compliment of Lance Briggs. Now guess who's got a guaranteed contract until 2011?

What the hell is wrong with Bryant Gumbel? He was just all up in Tarkenton's face-I hoped beyond hope that he he wouldn't accidently slip and kiss him; Fran Tarkenton was looking at him like, I'm gonna kick this guy's ass.

Ok, we all know this season is over for the Bears. I can't believe they didn't gove a shot to Orton. But now its time to start thinking for a new quarterback. No one knows how Orton can play cuz we havent seen him do anything since 2005. So the Bears better start spending big bucks to get a good quaterback that has confidence. Also they have to start looking at everyone in the team, sorry to say but some vet bears may have to go, their age is showing. Either pick it up or throw in the towel. I cant bear to watch games now.

Mariotti's a windbag who sensationalizes everything, someone tell him to take off his sunglasses - it's winter. Durability issues? - whose leg or iron rod would have withstood that hit. While Grossman certainly had his problems, he totally ignores that they were part of a maturation process which was clearly happening . He is a clearly improved decision maker than earlier in the year with quick strike ability and an arm I've never seen on a Bears quarterback. Clearly a bargain worth keeping to compete in an OPEN competetition next year for the starting job - leaving the possibility of draft/free agency signings. Based on the effort over the past 3 games, I would say he was one of few that was playing with any determination as well. We clearly have bigger issues. The offensive line play and penalties were simply embarrassing and the pressure of the defense was nonexistent. The running game is just awful and frustrating to watch. And what's with the secondary? Was a shameful day to be a Bears fan.

BAD NEWS BEARS- MOVIE
Made in 1976 starting Tatum O' Neal and Walter Matthau
produced by Stanley Jaffee
directed by Michael Ritchie

REMAKE- 2007 BAD NEWS Bears-

Some key differences.. The first move was comedy fiction. This
remake is documentary/horror.

Here is the cast...

Starring- Rex Grossman, Cedric Benson, etc.
Director- Lovie Smith
Producer- Jerry Angelo
Writer- Jerry Angelo
Screenplay- Jerry Angelo

Executive Producer- The MaCaskey family

REVIEW: The realism of this ongoing reality/documentary horror is right on the money. The producers could not have found a better cast to convey the incompetance, inepitude and failings as brilliantly as this cast has managed to convey. Devon Hester is perfectly cast in the role of Tatum O' Neal as the one bright spot on this pathetic roster, but unlike her, he is not able to make this team win. The best part of the movie is watching the team geat repeatedly into the red zone, only to keep committing penalities and almost take themselves out of fieldgoal range.

The real horror of this movie is that it looks like the same cast that produced and directed it will be making remakes for some time...

"Griese was warming up"...(KLTSS)

yeah....I guess these last 7 years he just needed to stretch a little more before he goes in....maybe if there were 6 quarters in a game instead of 4, he would be better.....thats it.

Griese is just like a Butter Churn.

Lets put Olsen at QB, Hester at RB, AP can play DBack instead of Archuletta, since he likes contact more than most of our D does.

Hopefully we will perfect our signature defensive play....the...ARM TACKLE by next year!

What a joke! Bend but do not brake, play not to lose, gap defense, coverage defense, first and goal, run ball up middle for field goal, settle for field goal instead of touchdown. This coaching staff should be FIRED not given extensions! Never change game plan same thing over and over. Teams giving the Bears offense great field position because of Hester, afraid to take advantage. This team was overated last year in weak division, schedule, coaching, and management. Bears always go the cheap route from top down, general manager with no proven experience, head coach(first time), trading down high picks for lower picks, more for less, quanity not quality,on and on. Bears will never go anywhere as long as ownership is satified with just with statis quo.

Chicagoans have a loser's mentality. They don't just expect their teams to lose, they HOPE that their teams lose, so they can say their four favorite words...I TOLD YOU SO. So the Bears lost. You should be happy.

Also, in this microwave generation fans expect immediate super greatness. There was a time when it was assumed that a quarterback would get 3-4 years to develop. Give that time to Grossman. He WILL be a fine quarterback. And, the team will get healthy next year and they'll be better.

P.S. Can we get rid of most of these so-called sportswriters? Their work is amateurish and putrid.

All the bears did the last 2 drafts was draft defensive backs and Hester and these so called players have turned the secondary into a joke along with Lovie's good friend Babich mayby Lovie can find a replacement for his only real coach Toub. This coaching staff is a joke and Lovie is the top Comedian

Rex won't be here next year because Rex won't want to be here next year. The fans treat him like crap and this system is not good for him. Congrats to everyone who wanted him to fail. Not sure what we gained from that exactly, but I'm sure you've got some master reasoning as to why this is all good for the team. And just so I know, please tell me how it works: do we start hating next year's quarterback now, or do we have to wait for him to play a game?

I really don't like to pile on but here it is. Everything starts with the head man in charge and Lovie Smith looked liked he was really out of touch in coaching this team. Let me say this I really like Lovie but he has surrounded himself and this team with second rate coaches. Lets start with Ron no imagination Turner. He is so predictable that my grandson is calling his next play. He wasn't even a good college coach how is he expected to come in and teach professionals,he is in way over his head. The defensive coach or should I say cheerleader, seems like he has never coached in his life.He should do the right thing and resign and go coach highschool. I am a Bear for life who expects more.

Da Bears "dropped the ball" when they let go of Jones. Kyke Orton should be the QB of the future. Or maybe wait for one of Brett Favres grandsons...

Even the Great Brian Griese can't polish that turd.

With a depleated defensive line and the inability to cover on defense why are the bears not loading up and blitzing more often. Especially in the case of last nights game where you had a qb who hadnt taken a game time snap. By sitting back and trying to cover the bears made this guy look like a probowl qb. I mean if you are just going to lose anyway why not go down fighting. the Ravens took that attidue towards N.E. and llok at what they did. They were basically running a version of the 46 defense and it worked (surprize surprize). The whole defensive schem this year has been to passive.

Lovie should rename the Cover 2 to "Cover Your Eyes". High school zone coverage doesn't make it in the NFL. Congratulations Ron Turner on getting the ball into Devin Hester's hands .... it only took you 13 games!!!

How many times can you have 3rd and 9 and throw a 1 yard pass with 3 defenders hanging on the receiver and expect to get a 1st down. How many times do you see Brady or Manning do that. That's Turner for you. Never changes. I know I'm thinking outside the box here, but how about the SHOTGUN on a consistent basis to help any quarterback that has a porous offensive line blocking for it. Think Manning or Brady would ever do that?

I couldn't be happier! I'm a Vikings Fan and this year is quite exciting and funny to watch as a Vikes fan living in Chicago! GO VIKES! Boo Hoo Bears! hee hee

Time to overhaul the offense starting with the immediate replacement of the poor leadership from Ron Turner. Yes he may know football, but when and where has he won. Bring McNabb home! draft a running back for the future (profile of a McFadden, Jones, or Smith). Sign a few up and coming offensive linemen to replace the aging and ineffective crew we currently overpay. Dump Rex, Dump Turner, Dump Griese, Dump Benson and sign Briggs. Get the swagger back Lovie, we need Lovie to lead and not just manage the team. And let's get to and WIN the Super Bowl!

I'm tired of watching week after week the two bumbling idiots (Babich & Turner) making the same dumb mistakes and calling the same incompetent plays over and over again with Lovie standing there with that deer in headlights look wondering "Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to get rid of rivera"???? Please get rid of both these numbskulls!! Rebuild the tired OLD offensive line, Get rid of Rex and Brain!! oh yeah and cut losses with Ced and get a real running back...... enough said.

Bears fan for life!!!!!

I switched from Favre to Grossman at the last minute on my FFteam! What a blunder! I'm embarassed that they were humiliated by a team decimated by the loss of a teammate and only one practice for this game! If the Bears can't beat Wash., who can they beat? Throw in the towel now, before you are embarassed even more!

I feel that the bears don't no that in the game of football you need to play hard and do the little things that you don't get any credit for to help your team win games., Now we all are out of the playoff as a team, The team didn't show any hart at all this season.......

I love the bears, But I can't understand why the team didn't play hard at all the whole season., Some time as a player you need to do the little things that you (may not get) the credit for it but you are helping your team to win the games, I didn't see that all season long and now as a team they all are out of the playoff.

I simply can't believe that when Collins came into the game -- he of limited live action experience over the past DECADE -- Babich didn't blitz relentlessly. Why let the guy sit back there and pick us apart with his rainbow passes? Why not force the issue a little? A safety blitz? A corner blitz? Something? Oh and then they do blitz on the play that everyone in the entire stadium expected them to blitz on -- and Collins barely gets the pass over Tommie Harris' hand. The rest, of course, is history.

Whatever scheme we are running on D isn't working. But I tell you what... Ron Rivera looks like a genius compared to Babich. At least his D played with some passion.

Let's see... Lovie brings in Archuleta (a bust). Lovie brings in Babich (definitely looking like a bust). Perhaps talent evaluation should be taken away from Lovie.

I say play Kyle Orton the rest of the way out, Griese has shown what he is capable of doing in that QB position which is sadly, very Rex like. And, please, please don't ever let Ricky Manning Jr suit up for another football game--this guy couldn't cover a stop sign! Adam A.,thanks for the anguish--another missed tackle, thanks alot!! Big up's to Tommie and Alex. By the way, shouldn't Alex be given his starting postion back--Mark had good year rushing the QB's last season but (Babich) teams are game planning him now.

Hey Hitman......I got the Ortonator out of the basement.......soon it will be time.

Where are you Pete?
I miss you.
Tell me again how Grossman is going to be the hero and save this season!
How many injuries is that now?
Nobody wants your son here, so now you can stop with the grossman is the savior and how needs to develop. If he's not posting all time low ratings -- he's getting hurt.
Maybe now we can see Orton and see how much he sucks...maybe he will be a nice surprise. Either way, I can't see this team being a contender in the near future so they might as well trade any decent players and start rebuilding. They need to overhaul the entire team and plugging in a player here and there is not going to do anything.

Calm down Key. Try decaf. Dude it's called levity. Jokes. Ha HA.. Why do so many posters piss you off so easily? Dude can tell you that the sky is blue and you'd argue that it's maive or turquiose. Man, you're about as wrong as the rest of us with opinions so please try to be contrite every once in a while. "Watch the rest of the commercial instead of getting snacks". Okay , Mom. Will do partner. Any backhanded swipe does not make a compliment sincere. Let us know what you feel about a topic every once in a while instead of always telling us how you feel about someone else's opinion. Excuse me while I get a snack... Is Subways opened at 11:30P.M.??

I like the "Bret Favre grandson bit" I don`t have that kind of time I think.

I would like to see Kyle Orton QB,but he can`t hit a moving target.
So let us see Kyle start a game Lovie,Ron,or Angelo or whoever is in charge these days.

Please drop the cover 2 defense! Go back to BLACK and BLUE football!
Teams coming to Chicago knew they was in for a Butt Kicking, now we play like a one legged man in Butt Kicking Contest....

This has been the worst Professional Football Team in many years
Dumb.....

The OL...got the QBs messed up.....ok I just had to say it again
Dropping Tommie into pass coverage? Duh..The man can`t Walk!
What part of INJURED do they not understand?

Who is this BABS coach? What has he ever done to mold a defense?
Get him out of here or move him where he don`t have to think.

No one bothered to teach Hester to line up.......COACHES earn your Paychecks.....

Build a OL and a DL or the Bears will never win again.

Please get the man a Cheat Sheet and somebody to talk to.

I didn't even talk about how happy I was about the injury and you still didn't post it.
I simply asked Pete a question.
Are you Pete?

Hey Roman, it's time to start a new thread! Here it is: Can the Bears be fixed and how can it be done? I'll go first.
The answer is the Bears can be fixed. However, there are some realities that we have to face. The main one being that Angelo and Lovie will not be fired next year, it will probably be in 2009 unless they take my advice. Having said that, can the Bears be fixed through the draft? No, not with the current Offensive and Defensive coaches and strategies. They would have to draft an all-pro at each position to overcome the bad coaching, decision making and play calling. You can do that in one draft and Angelo couldn't pull it off. So what do you do? Here is my plan for the Bears. Roman and everyone except Stuckinwisconsin please let me know your thoughts. For the rest of this year of course they need to sit Harris,Urlacher, Walker and Vasher to prevent further injury.
1, Fire Turner and Babich.
2, Cut Benson and Archuleta.
3, Renegotiate the contracts for Griese and Muhsin. If they won't take a pay cut, cut them.
4, Promote Orton to 1st string for the rest of this year and next. Give him the same chance they gave Rex. Who knows he might blossom like Romo or Derek Anderson. Use Griese only in emergencies.
5, Sign Rex(As back-up), Briggs and Berrian.
6, Start Bradley at the WR spot and actually mix in some 4 wideout sets.
7, Switch to a 3-4 Defense like the Patriots, San Diego, Pittsburgh etc. The current Cover 2 Scheme sucks and is eminently beatable. The Bears have 6 good Defensive Lineman that you could rotate frequently to keep them fresh and apply pressure. How about Brown, Harris and Ogunleye. 2nd string Dvoracek, Walker and Idonije? You could mix and match.
8, Make Mark Anderson the 4th linebacker. Set him loose like Shawn Merriman, Vrable and James Harrison of the Steelers.
9, To save his career, move Urlacher to Strong Safety. With an arthritic back he'll never be able to play the middle and shed blocks or drop back in coverage like in the cover two. In the 3-4 with zone blitzing like Pittsburgh, he would be a bigger, faster Polamalu. He played Strong Safety/Monster Back in college for 4 years so he knows how to do it. He could drop 25-30lbs which would take pressure off his back and there would be no doubt he could stay with any tight end in the league, blitz and support the run. Move Briggs into his spot and start Jamar Williams in Brigg's old slot. With Anderson and Urlacher free to blitz they would be awesome! If Mike Brown comes back he can play free but they would be better off grooming McGowan and Danieal Manning.
10. Bring in a true Offensive coordinator like Jason Garret or Josh McDaniels.
11, Focus on Offensive Line, Running back and Safety in the draft.
If the Bears follow my advice they'll be contenders next year. If not look for them to join the Dolphins as the worst team in the league!!!!

Thank you, Stuckinwisconsin...Geez man, can you believe 5 years grooming a Barbie doll to be a back up at best for someone else?

I hope everyone got to check out the nfl scouts interview ;)~

Have an awesome week, everyone..

Ed I agree with large chunks of your suggestions, but I wouldn't just hand the QB job to the bearded hick from Purdue.

I would definitely start him for these last games to see what he has.

I would try to sign Grossman to an incentive laden deal (wouldn't be surprised if Rex told them to go fornicate with themselves with the often unfair abuse he's received in this town)

they've already lost Alex Brown... and now have "the Colonel 2007" at end.. which is what I was afraid of when Roman asked about the move before the season.

and I would have open competitions at every single position in training camp next year.

Okay , Mom. Will do partner. Any backhanded swipe does not make a compliment sincere.

"Let us know what you feel about a topic every once in a while instead of always telling us how you feel about someone else's opinion."

My opinions have been clear since day one:

1). Bryant Gumbel is kinda creepy.

2). If they were to make a movie about Brian Griese's life, he would most likely be played by either Steve Carrel or Chris Farley(re-animated).

3). Full-commit fake! Awesome!

4). Grossman has a sprained MDR, so Griese is our QB for now.

"Excuse me while I get a snack..."

Watch it. I might have your stomach stabled. No anaesthetic.

You guys think I'm angry, but that's just the way that I write. In reality, every time I post on this blog I'm laughing out loud. Half of the stuff that I write is a joke.

Keylan says: "You guys think I'm angry, but that's just the way that I write. In reality, every time I post on this blog I'm laughing out loud. Half of the stuff that I write is a joke."

The other half is utter nonsense.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Ed, I agree with everything except bringing back Grossman. Let Orton play out the season and see if he's any good, but pursue a quality QB or draft a future QB and let them fight it out for the starting job. We all saw what happens when you just give a player the starting job.

M&M, who do you think we could get at QB? McNabb is too fragile and I don't know if the Browns would let Derek Anderson go. What about Chris Simms or Sage Rosenfels? By the way what happened to Chris Leak? I'm okay with cutting Rex but I thought I might like him as a back-up instead of Griese because of his arm. In addition it seems like if he plays a quarter or two he is fine, after that the other Team figures him out. If we can't find a quarterback through free agency, do you think we can draft high enough to get a good one in the draft? With Angelo picking????!!!! What do you think?

I agree Ed...sadly I have lost all faith in Angelo being able to draft a franchise QB...mcnabb may have a second life but its a toss up and I do think that the Browns will trade Anderson, but I fear that the Bears are not willing to even try that deal.
That is why I have been saying for weeks that still trying to win and crawl into the playoffs was a bad idea...they could have started orton in more games and if they lost it would be a good thing for the draft...its too late now and I think its going to be another sad year..hate to say it but i think Wrecks will be back as the starter and the whole roller coaster will start again...

Three games is more than enough. It's better than being on the bench all quarter.

M&M, unfortunately I think you're right. Orton should have been the first option when Rex struggled(Like we knew he would) in the 1st three games of the year. In fact, they should have been looking at Orton last year because Rex sucked the last half of 2006 and in the Super Bowl. In addition, Orton has many of the things Rex lacks: 1, He's tall enough to see over the line. 2, He has the best arm on the Team. 3, His hands are much bigger than Rex's and he can handle the shotgun, unlike Rex. 4, He has better mobility than Rex. Well that's not saying much because Virginia McCaskey has more mobility in the pocket than Rex too. Either way it comes down, as it always does with Lovie making bad decisions, not being able to make adjustments before, during or after the game and his stubborn refusal change any of his plans. Now we get the worst Offensive Coordinator in Football, Ron "Kill an Offense" Turner stating today that the playbook will be "Wide Open" for Orton. Why the hell wasn't the playbook wide open the previous 14 games(including the Super Bowl) when the Bears couldn't establish the run, pass, score a touchdown on their opening drives and have been settling for field goals 9 out of 10 times in the Red Zone? Why wasn't the playbook wide open to get Hester involved in the offense, or Olsen or Bradley or Davis. Maybe if the playbook was wide open the leading scorer would be a running back or receiver instead of Hester running back kicks. Oh well, I'll stop my rant. M&M, you're right 2008 is shaping up to be more of the same. Maybe we should become Packer fans.....
