no Benson and no Archuleta meant things were off to a good start right from the go!
how much Benson sucks is really apparent in this game, as Peterson looks far more sprightly running the ball and his receiving ability makes all the difference in the world, from rock hands Ced.
isn't it nice to have an outlet, dumpoff option that can actually catch and then even do something with the ball?
Grossman looks damn good, and I have to give Turner credit for creating the no huddle uptempo atmosphere from the get go.
also, line IS blocking better, no doubt about it.
I can't believe I am saying this, since I definitely don't drink Bear koolaid, but in the crappy NFC, the Bears have as good of a chance of being the last crappy wildcard as anyone else.
Do they play the Vikings again? that Adrian Peterson is unbelievable (felt that the FIRST time I saw him on tape this year, funny how I NEVER felt that way about Ced) and their QB is slowly maturing.
The season is officially over for Da bears thanks to a bad offensive line & no running game. Peterson will never be a Gale Sayers or a Walter Payton.Peterson has no balance at all just blow'n on him will bring him down. Hopefully in 08 Bears will make changes at Qb,running game & offensive line. The defense not exactly great either.
plenty of blame to go around. Grossman gave them a chance to win. Throws the ball 50 some times for almost 300 yards, with 1 TD and NO TURNOVERS. Throws it well, but they still only rush for 68 yards.
If you can throw it that well, you should also be able to run the ball more effectivelly. I am tired of watching the OL not open any room and commit stupids costly penalties.
Grossman gives them the best chance to win at QB. Keep him out there.
Offensive coordinator goes into shell against pathetic Giants attack. The worst play calling in all of pee wee league. When they were suppose to run the clock out this Turner has them throwing the ball out of bounds. When the tight end is working he stops calling the plays. Get rid of this whole coaching staff they get outcoached just about every week. Lovie start coaching for a change instead of having the deer in the headlights look all the time. Great game Ogunleye. Why do they go into zone defense when they have the lead. This coaching staff continues to struggle. This was a game that was easy to win.
THE BEARS DEFENSE ARE PROBABLY THE WORSE I'VE SEEN ON 1ST DOWN. OFFENSIVELY THERE WERE TOO MANY MISSED OPPORTUNITIES. CAN'T GIVE UP THAT MANY SACKS, I DON'T CARE WHO YOU'RE PLAYING. SHOULD'VE RAN THE NO HUDDLE THE ENTIRE GAME. COACHES ARE TOO STUBBORN TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. THEN WHEN THEY TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND IT WORKS, WHY GO AWAY FROM IT??? DEFENSE SUCKS... EVERYTIME TIME ON FIRST DOWN THE G-MEN GOT AT LEAST 5 YARDS (UNLESS THEY THREW THE BALL). ELI MANNING IS A WORSE QB THAN REX. HE LOOKS BAD ON MOST OF HIS THROWS.NONE OF HIS PASSES WERE ON TARGET BUT YET THEY WON THE GAME...UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE! OH WELL THE SEASON IS BASICLY OVER... MIGHT AS WELL PACK IT IN AND MAYBE PLAY THE SPOILER ROLE LATE IN THE SEASON.
Now that it's finally over, I want to see Orton and see what he is capable of. I need to know if he is our future or if we need to go out and trade or possible draft for a franchise QB. i don't want to hear anymore about "IT" and his new style of play. "IT" played good at times and then bad at times....it's the same old story with "IT" and I'm sick and tired of watching "IT". Evaluate for next season and get rid of "IT" as soon as possible, please don't be tricked into thinking that "IT" has changed into the franchise QB that we need.
For all the idiots out there: there is still a mathematical chance of getting into the playoffs...make you fell better?
I saw at least 3 or 4 dropped passes today, one definitely for a touchdown........Rex may have overthrew 2 balls to Berrien, but its better to ovethrow and play another play then to undethrow like Griese and throw 3 picks....Grossman didnt play bad but needs to STEP UP IN THE POCKET more, even though it is impossible for his line to give adequate time a lot of the time......ENOUGH PENALTIES, ANYONE?????
(did anyone actually notice that Rex didnt turn the ball over today?, if there is any bright side to today, that is it)
And, when you have in essence shut down Eli/Plaxico/Shockey all day, how do you let them run doen for 2 scores and give up 22 yards to a (WIDE OPEN) David Tyree when he should at least BE PRESSED????????????
another TEAM LOSS....not any one individuals fault today (maybe Devin Hester for once now that I think about it)
stop the koolaid - the Tommer TD was definitely a TD.
Rex did overthrow some potential big plays and TD's late in the game, but the thing that really strikes me is that the Giants pretty much ran at will against the Bear D all day, even when Eli couldn't complete a single pass to anyone.
This game was blown by the coaches. The coaches let the team become comfortable with a 9-point lead, less than what the bears overcame last weekend. The coaches didn't make proper adjustments at halftime to address the offensive line problems. The coaches also haven't properly addressed the issue of wide receivers dropping balls (see Devin Hester or the 4th quarter for examples). Lastly, stupid penalties squandered great opportunities this weekend (personal foul & 100yds in penalties) and last weekend (holding penalty negates touchdown pass). It's time to stop looking at the action on the field and start looking at the lack of it on the sidelines.
Chris from WI....good observations.......did anyone else notice that Peterson didnt rush for anything more than Benson normally would hae this season???????
Rex needs to stick around for the simple fact that he actually in the last 3-4 games had to do what he has done with:
a) little or no o-line protection
b)receivers dropping passes frequently
c) terrible play calling at best unless the qb is running a no-huddle (ever evidenced by the Griese comeback in PHI as well)
d) PENALTIES UP THE A** by the offensive line
e) lack of a successful running game
f) Lovie staring into the sky at Soldier Field like a deer in headlights
g) Fans who continue to boo him even though the depths of the team's play is at least 75% not his fault
h) the defense blowing coverages at times and making stupid penalties
i) FRED MILLER and John St Clair (who is not much better over the course of a 60 minute game
j) Terrence MEtcalf making boneheaded penalties that take them out of field goal range
k) the Bears lack of taking advantage of obvious mismatch possibilities with the caliber of talent Greg Olsen is
l) John Tait...who should be moved over to the right side again akin to his KC days
m) lack of a TRUE fulllback that scares people, like Leonard Weaver in Seattle
n) might I add once again....DROPPED PASSES
I dont want to go all the way theough the alphabet to make people realize that it is not all REx's fault....Rex is not perfect by any means but put Tom Brady behing John St Clair and Terrence MEtcalf and any team would have him for lunch as well........a lot of Rex's issues have the ability to be at least somewhat corrected by effective coaching by a competent quarterbacks coach and elimination of at least 50% of the problems I have listed above.....the Bears would have a winning record if all of those problems did not exist
The offense looked great and the defense bent, but didn't break. Then all of a sudden, the offense went conservative, couldn't sustain a drive, and in turn wore down the already depleted defense. They were in position to step on the giants throat, but gave them the chance to get back in the game, as they barely did.
I thought replays could only be overturned only if the replay was indisputable. Looks like Toomer trapped it after it hit off his chest.
I was a big.. no, a fan of Turner off of what he did when he was here before. But I just jumped off his wagon. If it is working please stick with it. When Hester dropped that pass who else heard the air go out of the balloon? I love the guy,on special teams but honestly he is nothing more than a decoy. Not many guys dropped good throws and I could've sworn Rex overthrew Berrian 3 times when he was wide open. Why wasn't Olsen in on the last play? We needed good hands people. He wasn't even in the last series. And didn't those announcers say that Bradley was playing more because Grossman lobbied for him? Why wasn't he in more in the 2nd half? We had some awful penalties go against us and some serious non-calls. How can a guy run past Urlacher and Brian's jersey is up around his shoulder pads and no holding penalty is called? Rex needed to step up in the pocket more and he would've escaped a couple of those sacks. Whenever he learns not to make certain mistakes he rarely repeats them and I honestly feel like he need a little more coaching up. I really think that he made some strides and should get another year to see what he can do. The main problem with teams going to the Superbowl is that they don't try to get better and have too much ego and don't go with improvements because they're too busy crossing their fingers more than going out and pulling off some major changes. Where did we upgrade? Walker is no better than Tank and Archuleta is no where as solid as Harris. Lovie's reclaimation project of Archuleta is a serious bust. Peterson was great and his presense gave the Offense a lot to look forward to. Back to Rex: I liked the fact that he was yelling at guys and showing the sidelines that he was in the game. He showed a lot of poise and some guts. Keep him as long as he shows that. This loss was just what's wrong about this season:no sustained momentum. Better luck next year.
Some of you all are unable to understand what building means. Do you think that a "franchise quarterback" just happens? One could have one if everything else around him is in place, but mostly, he is developed --- DEVELOPED --- by a good coaching staff working with good to excellent native ability. Now I acknowledge that Grossman is not 6'5" with 4-40 speed and elusiveness. But this guy is a leader who leads and has the respect of the team he HAS. Not the team he wishes (and we wish) that he has. Nor does he have, in my opinion, the top drawer type of coaching and playcalling.
I can assure you -- from what I have seen -- the Bears could draft a Romo or Favre and with this coaching staff, the guy would be destroyed, ruined in no time. Ya see, unfortunately, it takes no skill to destroy talent --
So if I wish anything -- it is improved coaching and some luck with talent selection. We have not done well this year with either.
Joe H is retarded ...AP had 149 yards from srimmage ... DaBears had 312 net as a team... wow, that's almost 50 % of our offense ...shut up..
It was so nice to have a RB tonight ...win or lose ...I appreciate vision, balance, blocking, receiving..and blah blah blah
Have you all had enough of a QB who can't stand in the pocket and deliver yet?....OK, Rex has a great arm....Orton's is just as good ...and it comes from a better trajectory .... It's called "stand in the pocket and deliver"
Can somebody please tell Lovie that they are not a running team. They basically wasted an entire second half trying to establish the run. There was no since of urgency to score once they went up by 9. Stop playing to an average defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't put this one on Rex ! Put the whole damn season at Lovie's and Jerry's feet ! Trade Thomas Jones ? Fire Ron Rivera ? Hire a new QB coach ? Hey Lovie , got any friend's looking for an offensive coordinators job ? And Jerry, any truth your shopping Devin Hester for a 4th round pick ? Is Josh beekman really an offensive lineman , or just Jerry's imaginary friend ? Questions, questions
If I could overlook the steep yardage Grossman gave up in not being able to elude the sacks (despite Aikman telling the nation repeatedly how to do it ... move up in the pocket .. ) I would then say Rex played pretty good.
The Bears lost mainly because Feagles didn't give Hester a play he could return for big yardage, the Bears defense couldn't stop the big runs, & the Bears can't catch the football often enough.
They didn't lose this time because of Rex. They lost because the replay booth is too stupid to see the nose of the ball scrape the ground on the questionable TD catch by the Giants. That should have been ruled an incomplete pass & Rex should have been put in a position to get in FG range for the win. Something he does a pretty good job at.
The turning pt in the game was the Bears challenge play. For whatever reason the refs decided to acknowledge it & took 7 points off the board for NY. I didn't think that could happen. If the Bears force a 4th down momentum shifts. Instead they gave up an easy run & the pts went back up. You just knew the Giants were going to win it then.
I will never again watch another game in which Grossman is allowed into the stadium. And the only unanswered question left this season is which blade of grass will trip AP next.
Those who want to see Orton now *cough M&M cough* have not been watching Grossman play since he got his job back. He needs to continue to develop. He did things today that I never expected him to do and benching him now would be a mistake.
Grossman has no help. Muhammed is washed up. Berrian was a one year fluke. Olsen is still too green. The O line is HORRIBLE and the running game is non-existent. Couple this with an average to below average D and you get the kind of results you got today. One thing you can say about our Bears is that they are consistently inconsistent.
I think the Bears offensive line is the worst in the NFL. On several screen passes today to Adrian Peterson, they failed to throw one block. On any one of those screens, Peterson might have taken it all the way! Why can't we ever get a Orlando Pace, a Kyle Turley, or a Kevin Mawae to fill up our offensive line?
AP did have a good day, until we really needed a big play. In the 3rd and 4th quarters, there were at least two or three plays where he went down on a one arm tackle by a Giant -- particularly on the screen play late in the game. He put up good overall numbers, but we kind of need him to reach a higher level come crunch time. Same for Wrecks.
Turner should be fired. The offense played not to lose -- once again -- the entire second half.
I also don't know what happened, but I am the one that "Elie" was talking to.
I made no comment about how AP played, just the total of rushing yards in relation to the passing yardage. I was also pleased that he is a great upgrade in picking up blitzing and catching the ball out of the backfield. My comment was directed to the numbers they put up in the passing game, but still struggled in the run game with many reasons from OL to RB. When it comes to winning football games when you have a 2-score lead in the 4th quarter you need to be able to run the football.
Unless your QB is a guy named Favre, Marino, Montana, or Brady. You are not going to be able to win when you only run the ball for 70 yards.
Roman responds: Welcome newcomers. The name of the poster appears below the post. Thank you. Carry on.
I have to agree with Mr. Donald, above. This coaching staff is a bit lacking in the 'coaching' department. I'm not willing to say that Rex is the answer, but Ron Turner and Bob Babich aren't the answer either. That means that Lovie isn't the the answer because he put them in those positions. He is also the person that saw Adam Archuleta as a viable option at safety (his time in Washington was not an anomoly). Up to this point I've been down with Lovie, but most of the blame for this season has to sit squarely in his lap.
Those who want to see Orton now *cough M&M cough* have not been watching Grossman play since he got his job back. He needs to continue to develop. He did things today that I never expected him to do and benching him now would be a mistake.

What did he do that we have not seen? Play good at times and then play bad? Didn't he play great in the first half of last season only to be exposed by the Cardinals and end up the joke of the NFL? If he had played a great game, then the crucial throws would have been on target and the Giants wouldn't have had a chance to come back and win that game. This is what it has come down to: "IT" plays a game where he makes good throws and no turnovers and all of a sudden he is developing.
The only thing that is going to happen to Chicago if they decide to keep "IT" as their QB is that we are going to end up like New York and their QB situation (Eli). He play good as times, but not good enough to advance and get better. Every season he does something to impress them and then he falls apart...sound familiar?
yeh, stick with Rex, Bearheads, and you will repeat this season over and over again. in a league thin in talent from overexpansion, the Bears are among the thinnest in young talent. it will be years before the Bears are contenders. so keep Rex, he makes good copy in the news and is so out of shape that his fourth quarter passes flutter like a wind is acually blowing.
Rex played great today and like many people mentioned Rex does need to stick around not just for this season but many more seasons some of our coches on the other hand need to be fired and i know Devin Hester is great but id like some consistency and what the hell was with that drop??? its like that played turned the game around. and the o-line is still as stupid as ever. Rex is playing well even with the stupid problems that surround him and stupid fans who boo him even though the team is messed up.
Bogey: oh how short sighted yo gross relatives must be. Are you moma or papa grossman? you little boy made some good passes tday, but as usual, hes not NFL material and his team could not win. there is more to being a QB leader than making a few passes. no one respecs your boy, thats problem #1. the giants GAVE you the game, yet the bears and gross couldnt produce when needed.
Turner sucks. Angelo get your head out of your ass. Babich you need to leave, Ron Rivera where are you ? How is San Diego? The offense has plenty of potential? Call a game Turner!! You Suck.
Comments
The O-line has to STEP UP their game, or someone should be benched like AA.

and Peterson is making Benson a forgotten nightmare
Posted by: Tim Little | December 2, 2007 04:51 PM
I swear, somebody must have locked Ron Turner in the janitors' closet for the first drive and the bum got out.
For every strong play Rex makes, he has five knucklehead ones to match. Guy couldn't read a blitz if you told him you were coming.
I've not seen so many blitzes since WWI. Guess the Rex Baron hasn't either.
Do we own a quick slant or middle pass?
The pass and no-huddle set up the run early.
Go Peterson!

to all you Grossman haters.
Eat it. He'll be here next year (and hopefully for many more to come)
(and if he's not, he'll be playing somewhere next year)
none of the other Bear QB's can make the throws he makes.
Another bee-bee to Clark.
Rex is bringing sexy back.
(note to Lovie - you're not a running team, really. And that's a good thing, welcome to the 21st century)

Anyways....oh well
The Vikings are going to make the playoffs
It's time to see what Orton can do...right?...lol

Did anyone else notice Devin's tremendous choke job today?
First he drops a sure-fire TD pass from Rex, few as far in between as they might be.
Then, on the last play of the game, he doesn't even jump for the ball in the endzone. He sticks his hand out like he's hailing a cab.
Way to go, Heaven Devin.

I have no idea what happened, but the quote above attributed to "Elie" was not the comment that I made....
Very weird.

Bears D was embarrassing. Three long second-half drives. Tillman's INT only thing that prevented it from being three scores.
Wrecks played well until crunch time. Then disappeared, as did the entire Bears offense.
Nice play calling, Turner.

Oh well. There's always 2009!

Posted by: kennytal | December 2, 2007 09:40 PM
Rex played great today and like many people mentioned Rex does need to stick around not just for this season but many more seasons some of our coches on the other hand need to be fired and i know Devin Hester is great but id like some consistency and what the hell was with that drop??? its like that played turned the game around. and the o-line is still as stupid as ever. Rex is playing well even with the stupid problems that surround him and stupid fans who boo him even though the team is messed up.
Posted by: Sahrish | December 2, 2007 09:41 PM
oh yeah, Rex is great, so when is 16 points enough to win in this league?
Posted by: kennytal | December 2, 2007 09:48 PM
Bogey: oh how short sighted yo gross relatives must be. Are you moma or papa grossman? you little boy made some good passes tday, but as usual, hes not NFL material and his team could not win. there is more to being a QB leader than making a few passes. no one respecs your boy, thats problem #1. the giants GAVE you the game, yet the bears and gross couldnt produce when needed.

Turner sucks. Angelo get your head out of your ass. Babich you need to leave, Ron Rivera where are you ? How is San Diego? The offense has plenty of potential? Call a game Turner!! You Suck.
