I'd say the Bulls are much more disappointing because the expectations for them were much higher, but the Knicks are in complete disarray.
I still think the Bulls will snap out of it, but I think things will get worse before getting better for New York.
The Bulls still have more character guys like Joe Smith, Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni and Kirk Hinrich.
Meanwhile, the Knicks have cancers like Stephon Marbury, and the team appears to have quit on Isiah Thomas.
Should be interesting Saturday. If the Bulls lose this one, it is rock bottom.
considering the Knicks were supposed to have gotten soooooo much better with the aquisition of Zach Randolf to compliment Eddy Curry I'd have to say they are worse. The Bulls can still turn things around with a little effort. The Knicks on the other hand have more cancerous lesions than just Starbury.
I think the Knicks have more talented players, but some of them are as you stated; Cancers. The Bulls need somone to step up and be the Team Leader. Noah at least attempted to do something and got B**ch slapped for his efforts. If they lose to the Knicks it may be early, but can you say "LOTTERY".
Yes, the Bulls have fallen way short of expectations so far, but at least we don't have to deal with crazy Isiah. He's really insane, but the owner may be even more insane for not firing him yet. Say anything you want about Skiles, I'd still rather have him than the situation in New York.
Now you KNOW I am excited to see the outcome. I think both are going to be ok. Knicks need a trade, or to just cut Stephon. Bulls have a ton of problems. The remedy for both is just winning. Isaiah is in trouble, but ole Skiles seems untouchable as if he has won 6 championships or something.
two drunks meeting in the middle of the night...one GM is a no-class pig who runs franchises into the ground. the other a gutless pretty boy who is afraid of his own shadow
Keith as I recall when Cartwright was fired there wasn't much in the media about it before hand, don't be too sure Skiles isn't in a hot seat right now.
So what are you guys really saying? You would rather have ON the court problems than OFF? All that crap going on with NY is smoke and mirrors. I would rather have their problems than ours. We have a glee club, and we are tied with NY and Seatle as the WORST in the NBA with only 2 wins. NY has an excuse, but what is CHICAGO's excuse? NY is talking about firing their GM and Coach. Their fans are booing. What is Chicago doing??? Comparing ourselves to the worst teams in the league and giving them a pass. Chicago should be judged by their record last year, but I guess all that matters is being better than NY. ONLY IN CHICAGO.
Keith, I think it's obvious that off-court issues translate into on-court problems. The Kobe trade rumors were a clear distraction to the Bulls - so much so that they can't get on track at all, and Isiah is clearly a major distraction to the Knicks. And the fans aren't just booing in NY - they're chanting "Fire Isiah!" I think you contradicted yourself by saying that New York has an excuse and the Bulls don't. If the players on either team aren't affected by off-court issues, then neither has an excuse. So far, the Knicks have done exactly the same as the Bulls as far as their GM and coach, and that is keep them employed.
Julie sez: "Yes, the Bulls have fallen way short of expectations so far, but at least we don't have to deal with crazy Isiah. He's really insane, but the owner may be even more insane for not firing him yet."

It's "pick your poison" between Thomas and Skiles.
They're a pair of control freaks, with Napolianic complexes.
Look for both of them to implode before season's end.
Who sucks Worse?.....how nice...Eric Gordon is the best college bball player in the country...to answer your previous blogquestion about the Rose boy.....not-even-close...
You realize you were comparing a hoosier to a bball player from illinois, right?....
sorry for your lose, Illini....but bball is Indiana...why you bother is amusing, tho...so keep it up
The Bulls, the Bulls and the Bulls, because I really don't give two shifts about the Knicks.
You guys keep saying New York has cancers like Stephon Marbury (note plural) and that the Bulls have more character guys. Can you guys please say who these cancers are on the Knicks roster..with evidence? (note plural)
Roman responds: Nate Robinson. And while I don't think Jamal Crawford and Eddy Curry are cancers, I'm not sure they're guys a team can win with. I still remember Reinsdorf's statement that no team that starts Jamal Crawford will have a winning record. Well, he's been in the league seven years and so far Reinsdorf is right.
In Chicago, being 2-8, making the playoffs, and LOSING in the 1st round is good enough. NOT in real NBA cities and certainly not in NY. Chicago is a joke.....but we don't seem 2 know it.
Julie I agree given all things being equal I'd rather have Skiles than any part of the Knicks especially Isaiah. Today's game may determine the destiny of both coaches.
Keith are we reading the same posts? I have not seen where the Bulls have been given a pass by the majority of posters. Skiles, Wallace, Gordon and Hinrich have all been ripped by posters including myself and the Bulls have had their off court distractions as well, i.e Kobe trade rumors, Skiles comments on players and the Gordon and Deng contract extensions. Did you not hear the Chicago fans chanting Kobe, Kobe, Kobe? I know deep down you were looking forward to pointing at the Knicks this season and saying.... see Pax should've gone after Randolph, even the Knicks improved while we stood still...what's NY's excuse? Poor management and several carcenigenic personalities.....Chicago's excuse? Lack of mental focus and execution fueled by trade rumors and contradictory remarks from Skiles.
Which situation do you think is easier to correct?
The Bulls are in much worse shape and it's pretty easy to diagnose:
- Deng - a weak-minded, better than avg player; turning down $60M and allowing the Kobe thing to affect him proves he is weak
- Wallce - just plain bad; he was bad last year
- Thomas/Smith - inconsistent
- Gordon - thinks he is much better than he is; nothing more than a streak shooter who is brutal on D
- Hinrich - dribbles way too much and can't shoot
Add this to the fact that nobody can create their own shot in crunch time. No, they don't have the Knick's problems off the court but they are an embarrassment who have lived on excuses far too long.
This must be a Chicago thing. The Sox, the Bears, and now the Bulls all entered the 2007 season over-hyped, and unprepared.
And all three stumbled out of their respective gates, crashing and burning.
The common denominator here, and I'll toss in the Blackhawks to bolster my theory, is that these teams are all run by notoriously cheap owners.
Chicago fans will continue to be charged top dollar at the ticket window for second and third rate products until they prove that they're smart enough to tell the difference between an Earl Scheib painted Vega, and a Porsche.
CHARACTER...you hit it on the head Roman. the bulls have character and the knicks are a bunch of characters. bulls should rebound from poor start, but need to get it going soon or else they may shake things up one way or another.
By far the Bulls are in the worst shape. New York is loaded with talent, absolutely packed with athletes. The Bulls?..not so much. I keep hearing how "Noce" and Hinrich are character guys -why? How so? Hinrich whines, complains, disrupts the game with his childish behavior all the time, so, again, how is he a character guy? Because he's white? Someone, please explain. And Marbury has given more to charity than almost any player in the league, and has over 8 career assists per game, how is he a cancer? Because he wants to win? Or because he's Black? Someone, expound. Please. Hinrich is no character guy, Marbury is no cancer. But at least Marbury can play basketball.
Roman responds: Marbury is no cancer? Then why did his TEAMMATES vote not to let him back on the team. That's hilarious.
I think Hinrich, Nocioni, Joe Smith, Ben Wallace are character guys because they play hard all the time. But I'll give you this, Hinrich absolutely is brutal today.
the Knicks biggest cancer is Isaiah, check the wake of of failure he has left behind since his days in the CBA. Marbury has fostered discontent where ever he's been.
Julie - Tim | November 24, 2007 07:30 AM, said it best. Knicks shouldn't be in this conversation, but they are because they have talent. That is the ONLY reason. Bulls have all the character, and where has it gotten us? 2 wins. Bulls have the Knicks in every category - but heart and talent, and its reflected in the RECORDS. I was particularly interested to see how the Bulls would respond to the Nuggets - a team loaded with talent, but what happened? The Knicks are a team that are built to beat ANY team on any given night that is why the Nuggets lost to the Knicks. They are long, athletic, have 2 playmakers and several low post players and a hall of famer for a coach. THEY HAVE A REAL CHANCE is all um saying.
We love the Bulls and watch them, but we know they don't have a snowball's chance in hades vs the top talented teams in this league UNLESS they are shooting almost 70-100% from the arc. Its insane, and no way to play successful basketball.
Tim Little - I will say it NOW since you brought it up - BULLS SHOULD HAVE PICKED UP RANDOLPH. Looking at our record/team its easy to see we should have picked up a star. Could have gotten Randolph for a song. And its easy money to see that the Knicks are going to be better than last year. They are already BETTER than last year. Bulls have peeked, and if they don't make some changes we are going to experience a free-fall like the Bears. Mark V. is right !!! Bears/Bulls/Sox/Cubs came into camp with high expectations and fell way short. Bulls can get an Eaglescout to coach them and still lose to talent. Especially when the character guys can't shoot free throws and take most of their loooooong Rainbow shots from neverland - without one teammate in the post to rebound.
I don't know how the Bulls or Knicks rank in talent among the N.B.A., but I do know I've just witnessed an N.B.A. game between two very below average teams. Nocioni and Jared Jefferies kept it close for the Bulls, one with hustle and determination and the other with one bonehead play after another. Again we tired at the end and shots failed to fall. Scott Skiles lack of rotation at the end of the third and start of the fourth had me shaking my head and not looking forward to the last few minutes of the game. Smith or Khryapa are hitting at least ONE of those open shots near the end, but Thabo, come on? Please come home Phil, pretty please?
I think after watching the game today that they are both REALLY terrible. (or as Sir Charles would say "TERRRBLLE")
I never thought I'd be saying this, but right now the Bulls are in worse shape than the Knicks. OUCH!
answered today with a L.
Keith, the Bulls have the same amount of talent they did last year when they made it to the playoffs. It's almost exactly the same team. So you are right, character isn't getting us as far this year. Why do you think that is? Off-court distractions, possibly? And I'm including the Thomas "ripping" by Skiles and subsequent apology. Just because our distractions are of a different caliber than in New York doesn't mean they are any less distracting. Unfortunately, as you know, you can't replace talent with character and expect to go very far. You need both.
To call Curry a cancer when he has a degenerative heart disease, is kinda.....well...thats kinda cutting it close to the line of acceptability.
He may be be lazy and have a bad attitude, but Cancer is probably the wrong word.
I moved to a new house, had cable guys here all day...was thinking of getting NBA package....but then I thought why? So I could watch Boston kick ass every night?
Screw NY, and Screw whoever squashed the Kobe trade!!!
Roman responds: I don't think anyone called Eddy a cancer. Stephon and Nate are cancers. Jamal I'm not sure about and Eddy is just soft. One of the nicer guys I've met, but soft and looks like he gained a lot of weight. Still dunking every time he gets the ball, which is great, but still heading the other way when a ball goes up and is timid defensively. He is who we thought he is.
Someone tell Jim Paxson to set an extra place setting and to dust off his brothers old fishing tackle, cause this team he has so carefully assembled is unraveling faster than Keith after a few beers from the Garage Fridge!
I will go a long with the J.Crawford statement by Reinsdorf, but I will take Eddy Curry back in a Heart Beat.
That DNA stuff was way off the scale......The Bulls should have been building their Offense around Eddy. Now they don`t have a inside Presence....at all! 60mil.for a guy to get a few rebounds.
If I was Skiles or Isiah I would have my box packed, but we have seen Isiah in trouble before....always seem to land on his feet.
David Stern`s Boy...Former Poster Child of the NBA....Skiles will go before Zeke!
The Gang need to hear something different than Skiles.
Who will he pick on this week, lets see 4 guys already only 11 left.
I`ll take Marbury any day over CAPT. KIRK, We need a little thuggery to go with this Vanilla Team ie,BONZI WELLS,RON ARTEST,
K.MART,STEPHEN JACKSON,BARON DAVIS.
Tied of this Catholic League Team.BULLS)
Skiles has nothing left.....Might as well keep him until they put together a Real Team.
Another Coach Floyd we have here now.
On paper New York has a better team but no chemistry same as Bulls.
The Bulls are in trouble....When Joe Smith is your best player
same as year P J Brown year before that Run up in stands A.Davis.
I tried...couldn't watch it....have you checked out Eric Gordon....Hoosier....as it should be......lol, I'm a big Ralph Sampson fan
Anyway..I tried to watch the game...for 10 minutes..I can't watch crap (DaBulls)....I would love for DaBulls to come out of this....Skiles knows a lot more about bball than I ever will...but I would kind of like to see Gray, Noah, and Tyrus on the front line, and if they were playing, I would watch it.....start em...just for me, please;)~
I watched you play in High School, Scott...you owe me
Chicago would get behind the even bigger baby Bulls...and as always... its fun to say..try it..kinda like 'Kyle is our QB'..It might be throwing pasta against the wall....but ya got a better idea?.....haha..beyond wrestling "Eric Gordon" away from Ralphie boy....HOOSIERS
I like Butler, Valpo, Evansville, Ball State, and the Joe Barry Carols, too....if ya wanna send me a sweatshirt
DaBulls and DaBears are no fun to watch....and evidently, the Knicks are better than DaBulls...to answer your question
but at 9pm ....Blackhawks Baby
Oh this is just great! The Bulls lose to the sorry Knicks now.
The Bears season is over (and please don't anyone say that they can win out) and now the Bulls look like a lottery team.
out of 48 minutes of playing time the Bulls actually played about 12 good minutes, 6 in the first quarter and 6 in the fourth. If half the jumpers they missed had gone in it would have been a blow out. Joe Smith and Ben wallace each had a blocking foul called on them that should have gone as a charge, Smith and Tyrus had calls made against them that should have been no calls, all of which resulted in NY free throws. I'm not making excuses for them at all just my observation of some of what was wrong. Even the consistant Joe Smith couldn't hit the shots he normally hits. But the thing that bothers me most of all is that when they finally tied the game in the fourth quarter shot selection once agian went down the tubes. Hopefully with Deng returning tomorrow something will break the Bulls way.
Well, it's come to this already. Only 11 games in and all that's left is who's worst amongst the bottom dwellers in the league. Well, looks like the baby bulls are grown up now and aren't beating anyone with youthful effort and selfless hustle anymore. They look listless, wane, and disinterested. In other words, they're playing with normal regular season NBA effort. What Jalen Rose once called giving 80% every nite. It's probably still better than the knicks though since, as far as I know, on the bulls, the point guard hasn't threatened to blackmail the head coach and gm. Now there's an NBA point guard! These guys are all playing like they expect to be traded and if I was Paxson, I'd oblige as many of them as I could.
the Bulls started sunday's game looking like they did last year but went impotent agan in the second quarter. and once again after cutting the lead to just 2 ponits late in the fourth quarter the offense went limp. the Bulls attempted 7 more free throws than the Raptors but missed 7 more also. defense has not really been the problem, 38% shooting is and they have been missing wide open shots.
keith if you had said Garnett I would have agreed with you
i guess i meant, in the same sentance. anyways...
Am I the only one who feels a bit cheated...after I bought into the Elton and Artest rebuilding line we were fed after the dismantled our Champs, to them have them dismantle Elton, Artest and Miller for the "Baby Twin Towers".....to them only have them sent packing...and now when we were just buying into this New Phoenix Suns of the East, but with Defense image we had, we screw that up with trade talks all off season that all but ripped the hearts out of all these young All Americans?
....
am i?
Knicks: talent and no chemistry.
Bulls: no talent and no chemistry. (except Gordon and Deng)
The NBA thank the Bulls for their contribution of top tier players
we sent away.
I wonder if Devin Hester can play point guard?
Culzie Ron Artest was one of my favorite Bulls all time. Him, Brad Miller and Brand were a formidable 3 on their way. Krause did himself in, but I cannot blame him. He went for the brass ring. He just gambled and lost. Thats the nature of the beast. Eddy Curry is supposed to be dominating this leagues like Dwight Howard is. And Tyson Chandler was supposed to be an Olojawan type player. Is rare for an athlete his size (7'3) to be as agile as a point guard. Krause gambled and I cannot blame him for it. He looked at Elton Brand and saw a gifted guy, but he was 6'8 tops. Brad Miller has good but not great. But Artest being unstable make Krause uneasy. Artest is mentally unstable, but between those lines - one of the top 5 players in the game. His defense alone knocks ANY guard 10 points off their game. And he is going to average 25 of his own. He is ABSOLUTELY FEARLESS. And any coach of the game knows what a commodity that it to have in the heat of battle.
Folks who are calling Isaiah a loser need to back that truck up. He has won on EVERY level of the game. Grammar, High, College, Olympics, NBA, 12-tim Allstar, and NBA finals MVP. He was coached by Bobby Knight and knows the game of basketball. Isaiah is one of the RARE individuals who can form the words, "I beat Michael Jordan in the playoffs". And he did it when Mike was GREAT. He has made some downright stupid mistakes, but when it comes to basketball he is not to be compared to Scott Skiles. Cmon.
Tim Litte - The ONLY team that had a chance at Garnett got him. I trully believe Kevin McHale controlled Garnett which is why you have to RESPECT Kobe. Minnesota is 1-10 - thats the NBA's worst team. Was a complete sham and I cannot believe McHale is getting NO press. All I hear about is Isaiah, but nobody has hurt their team worse than this guy. Kobe controls his destiny and that is why he is not in Chicago. LA wants to "MINNESOTA" Chicago, but Kobe refuses to come under those circumstances. And Kobe is right. Kobe is going to wait and become a free Agent. Even then I wouldn't sign him without some options. That brings us Randolph. Randolph was a gamble, but he was worth it! If it didn't work out what would we have really lost? Not much. Knicks got Randolph for Channing Frye. Thats like Randolph for Noah. Bulls didnt go after him because of the obvious - he wasn't glee-club material. Eagle-Scout Skiles is always a consideration when going after players and this has to change. Talent is not always going to guarantee you results, but it will give you a chance to compete if you can motivate them. AND THAT IS WHY YOU PAY A COACH. Bulls have taken the other route where you draft Character guys and make them fit a coach's personality. Thats college stuff, and that is why I say Skiles is stealing money. We have seen this whole show before and its in Utah. And they did it with better players and an even better Eaglescout. Its wonderful hoosier basketball, but when they run up against REAL talent - North Carolina usually beats the Indiana and the Bulls beat Utah. Before we scream out SanAntonio, let me remind you that LA had no reason dismantling their team and they should have reigned like the Bulls. I put the best Lakers teams up against the Spurs any day and twice on Sundays.
Keith good points about Krause...i admit i was excited about the Baby Hakeem and Baby Ewing....but I also played against Rashard Griffith and Tommy Hamilton.....so....although you cant teach Height, you cant Teach Heart either!!!
oh...and...to wit...Didnt Isiah...try to PERSONALLY work with Tommy Hamilton to get him to the League......and shortly after Tommy was allegedly busted or something like that???
...so..loser on that level.
Keith, you make some good points BUT...did you really mean this???
"Tyson Chandler was supposed to be an Olojawan type player"
A player like Hakeem??? I dare you to find any reference by anyone who suggested that Chandler could ever become anything similar to the Dream.
Chandler was Brad Sellers with more interest in rebounding and playing inside but NO inside game; NO offensive moves; No hands at all. And extremely fraile to top it off.
I'll give you a mulligan on that one...
Tommyyyyyy it was a Dream, pure hyperbole - by me and Krause! I am crackin uppp! Twas hard for me to type brother!
Keith it may be true the only team that had a chance to get Garnett was Boston, but you hype Randolph as the missing inside presence without realizing that he does the majority of his scoring from 12 to 15 out much like PJ Brown and Joe Smith. The inside scoring he does provide comes mostly from put backs. Yes he has post ability but rarely uses it.
Now as far as having said Isaiah is a loser, you are mis-quoting posts. The term used was a cancer not a loser. Since his days playing with the Pistons everything he has had his hands in has turned to poison. He no doubt knows how to play the game but doesn't have any successful management skills.
I think this is a funny question because there is no way that there is a possible answer. The Bulls have built a team based on certain principles and it all seemed to be working until this season. Some people think the Bulls will turn it all around like they have done the last 3 seasons after slow starts but those of us who actually understand basketball know that this team is doomed until they make a change. We are maybe one or two trades away from improving everything as long as we don't give up our ACTUAL core players which are, in no particular order, Gordon, Deng, Thomas, Joakim, Sefalosha, Nocioni, Gardener. I think Hinrich and Duhon have some qualities that other teams might like. Maybe we can get something for them. Also, Aaron Gray, Joe Smith, Adrian Griffin, and Ben Wallace are not as talented as a young team like Chicago needs to be able to compete for a Championship. Yes, I said Thomas Gardener is a core player over Ben Wallace. Deal with it. If you are going to make a Ben Wallace arguement with me, let me remind you that Detroit never won a Championship with Ben Wallace without The Center for the Utah Jazz and Rasheed. Yes, I loved Ben when Carlisle was his coach in Detroit and they won 50 games because Ben could guard everyone for entire quarters with hustle and pride. I love Ben but get over him.
Jason Kidd would instantly help us out.
Jermaine O'neal will simply get hurt again so no.
Marion if we can do a Luol straight up or package someone else who isn't a part of my core players.
Kobe for any two guys on the Chicago Bulls...not three unless it is 2 non-core.
Marcus Camby OR Nene for Wallace, and we can toss Aaron Gray in there.
Corey Maggette straight up for any core player plus a non-core. yes that means I'd give up Hinrich and Ben Gordan for him or Hinrich and any of those core guys. L.A. needs a point anyways, Sam Cassell is a dino and Livingston's Knee, may it rest in peace.
Moving on, New York does not have a single core player so they are in worse trouble. Zach Randolf haha, Eddie, please... Jamal... THANKS CHICAGO FOR GETTING RID OF THAT ENORMOUS BALL HOG... and I like Marbury but even he wants to win Isiah so let him go or bring something in to New York. If they still had Channing Frye i'd say him or ... wait they have That kid Lee who is a good baller. They have little, if any core... they are in much more trouble. That is way too much energy even trying to talk about them.
I have to add... Thomas Gardener is cheap... sometimes your core guys can be the end of the Bench... Unless you just want some super old veteran or some young kid with a ton of talent that we wont be able to afford later in time. I think he always comes in and shows that he deserves minutes. He is athletic, and long and has a nice jumper... a lot like gordan and deng their first year early on. I don't think we should just give Wallace away. I am more a strong believe on getting rid of Hinrich and Skiles over anybody else.
Tim Little - you are my favorite Bulls poster bar-none. I was addressing everyone on the Isaiah stuff. I said he made bad decisions because between the lines...he got the job done. Say what you want about that Indiana team - they were headed to the NBA FINALS before Artest lost it. Poison is a tough word because he has experienced success. Isaiah earns his checks though. He is not affraid to work with troubled players and they don't mind working for him.
Zack Randolph closed the Bulls out in the POST on Saturday. Went across the lane with his left hand and sent the Bulls packin. True stars know you have to get to that basket and the foul line. Noch is the only MAN on the team we have to deal with him, and when Zack got tired of him, he landed an elbow to the face to slow him down...where you think he got that from???? Was a thing of beauty! I am from Chicago and I knew they were going to slow Noch down! Why do you think Miami broke Tyrus's nose? This is oldschool tough ball. Some folks don't like it, but you have to bring it to advance. SA broke Steve Nash's nose didnt they? Bulls traded Oakley for Cartwright and that changed their fortunes forever. Traded youth for experience and the rest was history. Cartwright had the sharpest elbows in the game!
Culzie you mustve been a banger! How did you fare against big Tommy and Rashard. Rashard was the best of the two. King was winding down then. How did you end up playing against them? I KNOW YOU WAZNT STREETBALLIN! Summer tounament? I must know!
Keith I did say Randolph had a post game but he does most of his scorng from 12 to 15 feet away. and breaking Nocioni's nose isn't about to slow him down he lives for the contact. about the only point you managed to make Keith was that Randolph, like Isaiah, plays dirty and gets away with it. and face it Keith the '89 & '90 Piston's were among the dirtiest playing teams ever in the NBA starting with Zeke, Lambier and Rodman. Rodman became even more dangerous as a player when he was with the Bulls and became more effecient at mind games. he got so goos at mind games he had Alonzo Mourning talking to himslf on more than one occasion and Karl Malone ready to implode.
what the Bulls need right now more than anything else is a true point guard that can set up the bigs they have that can score close to the rim. get the ball to Gray as deep as Wallace gets it and see what happens. Wallace either passes back out or ends up having to attempt a fadeaway because no one bothers to double on him. post Gray up instead of having him set a pick at the top of the key and it won't be long before he attracts doubles and the middle will open up for a cutter like Deng, Noce or Tyrus. the 2 games they have won they outscored their opponents in the paint what does that tell you?
btw Keith I always look forward to your posts also and culzie's both of you are more entertaining then Seinfeld and Tyler Perry LOL
Tim last nights game was indicative of why Kirk isn't a playmaker. A true point knows all of his teammates and where they like to receive the ball. Hinrich threw that no-look pass to Noah who was not expecting to receive the ball. Of course he should have been alert, but PASSING the ball is not one of Kirk's strengths and Noah simply was not looking for the ball. That is something a true point guard establishes in the first practice. You don't know how extremely painful it is to watch a play like that involving a point guard on a team managed by a point guard (who holds an assist record) who's boss is a point guard!!! Thank goodness they won the game. Looked like the circus was still in town!
yes it was only the Hawks who the Bulls have now defeated 12 straight times but there are some significant things to consider in this their 3rd win. in all 3 games the Bulls have won they have outscored their opponent in the paint, had at least 20 assists and controlled the boards at both ends of the floor. in the second half last night Duhon ran the pick and roll almost to perfection, getting the floor spread to open up the middle for either a drive to the rim himself or a pass into the lane to the cutter that just set the pick. as a result of Duhon's effeciency Ben Gordon followed suit and patiently waited for the floor to get spread and found Deng breaking down the end line for a poster worthy alley-oop pass. the final score did not really reflect the Bulls domination in the second half in which they lead by as many as 26 points. Noah made a signficant contribution in 17 1/2 minutes of play with 7 rebounds (3 offensive), 2 steals, 2 assists, 1 blocked shot and 5 points. Tyrus and Wallace each had 12 rebounds enroute to a team season high 60 and the defense held the Hawks 17 points under their season average.
I played them all the time in Summer Leagues and HiProfile camps..and we came within 1 game of playing them downstate my sr.year.
In one of Kaplans exposure camps I had to guard Griffith and I out quicked him like crazy. Probably had like 3 steals from him...a couple blocks on him. He would swat the shiiiish out of me though...that was his trademark. The snortswat. He would make this crazy noise he would make when he would swat your stuff into the 5th row.
I played against Tommy a few times too...Biggest Dude ive ever seen in person. and he had the softest hands and great footwork......funny story about him ..and Fred Wade..from Evanston...during an aau game at loyala...in which we (fred and i) were winning....and...if memory serves me right...i got my nose broke...but kept playing....but anyways...
they got into it pretty hard core....because...well..there were a ton of scouts...and it was heated...but.....i guess....Wade and I were all over him.........so....someone took a swing...on someone.......and TH got sooo p'od he pulled out his six shooter (his fingers shaped like a gun) and pointed it at Freds head and said...lets take this out to the parking lot". I dont think they did...but man....i woulda paid to see that fight.
Culzie - you have some GREAT Chi-town stories man! I am dying!!!! Rashard used to get up! Tommy was the Oliver Miller type. Cox used to have them running and gunning! Yeah someone would up gat on you on the Southside. Fred almost was dead huh? Thats sad - TH was 6'10 300lbs. Thanks for sharing! I am still laughing!
Um older than you man! Now you have to respect your elder!
KNICKS!!!!!
Right on...
even funnier is a kid in my Jr.Hi had a King HS jersey from the Jaimie Brandon year. When they were wearing spandex shorts as shorts. (now, dont ask me how a kid in a HP jr hi had a King HS hoops jersey...I guess his dad had some connections......?
but...he was probably Landon's attorney...or something ;)
but in all seriousness...the greatest HS team ever.
oh...i have much respect old man...
You know whatthey say... the student has to seek out the master!
I believe it. There were some serious ballers in my era. KeonClark,,CCollins,J.Hester,AntoineWalker,Everyone on King,Westinghouse,Simeon,The Catholic League was always loaded.
Man Cox had that King program rolling! Jamie Brandon was huge, but there was a kid in our neighborhood nicknamed Kado who played for King and never got a chance to shine - he was better than Jamie. And Marcus Liberty was bigger than Kendal Gill coming out of King, but a Southside secret whas Marcus's brother Daryl Liberty was even better than he was - but never played in HS. Simeon and King were the powerhouses in those days. But they were both known for going down state and getting dropped off by Proviso East or Peoria Manual! Was some good hoopin in those days.
