There's no question Duhon ran the offense more effectively than did Hinrich last night. And I'm not basing that on the one ridiculous turnover that elicited another great Skiles quote: "I don't know that I've ever seen that kind of play since I've been 5 years old."
Maybe it would help Hinrich to come off the bench for a while. It's one thing to shoot yourself out of slumps, but he's making horrible decisions, and the Bulls can't afford that from the point guard.
I would say start Duhon for now and let Hinrich work his way back. I think he will, but if he doesn't, you have the more effective quarterback on the court at the start.
agreed Duhon has been running the offense more effeciently especially the pick and roll. I can understand Kirk wanting to reward Noah but his pass was not even close to being able to be handled, Nash or Kidd would have made the pass high enough to be handled, Duhon probably would have taken it in himself which would have been fine. and since Kirk's decision making and passing lately has been far from acceptable I think a little bench time is quite appropriate right now. with Du at the helm the floor got spread and the middle was opened up for him to either drive the lane and dish off or pass to a cutter, something Kirk has not been able to do consistantly. all the proof you need is that with Du running the offense in the 3rd quarter the Bulls scored more in the 3rd than they did in the entire first half with Kirk at the helm.
Rex Hinrich
Shame Lovie isn't DaBulls coach..
Kirk is our QB....erp
You see, it could be worse....
Its a shame that it took Skiles this long to figure that out. EVERYONE that follows the team knows what makes the offense click. Duhon has been in Skile's dog house but its way past time for the coach to get over himself. I cannot believe they are trying to police these glee club players. Ben Wallace has a citizenship award I believe. Its making me angry as I type! Anyway, its a no brainer to start Duhon, but that leaves us vulnerable with defense and that makes our backcourt too small, but you go with it until it becomes a problem. And when that happens you start Thabo with Duhon and bring Gordon AND Hinrich off the bench. Whole offense should be going through DUHON. And ALL point guards should be working on setting up the big men to score in the post! In this order: Deng, Thomas, Smith, Noch, Wallace, Noah, Gray. You play point guard according to your ability to execute these high percentage plays! Starting two guard plays according to the highest ratio of points scored vs allowed.
ummmm Keith isn't that about what I've been saying all along that Hinrich should be doing and isn't????? in the 3 wins it has been Duhon setting up the majority of the inside scoring by the bigs not Hinrich. too many times Tyrus set a pick and was left picking his nose because Hinrich never even looked to the middle for him, instead he either dribbled around out to the corner or threw the ball away trying to pass out the arc. and when he did drive the middle, only after he hung himself up in the air with nowhere to go did he even look for someone to pass to resulting in a TO everytime. I wonder what it would take to get Red Kerr out of the broadcast booth and on the bench coaching? even Stacy King who was by no means anywhere near a star has been pointing this out during games. I would suggest Van Lier coach but I'm afraid he'd be the lead man in a bench clearing scrum LOL
how bad has Hinrich been...? So bad that Duhon is actually playing better than he is.
People....Duhon is BRUTAL. Plays 1 good game out of 5 (yes I know...that's 1 more good game than Kirk). Point is, the Bulls really suck if we're talking about replacing Hinrich with someone who can drink all of us under the table.
Yes you have Tim! I am crackin UPPP!!! Norm is a dinosaur, but he would make a good consultant! Norm knows all about good old fashioned mental toughness. Its got nothing to do with size, but heart. Red is older than Norm, but he is smarter than Skiles! Red would have too much power and have his assistants sneaking him "gatoraide". He would make a wonderful consultant also. But Stacey King...now you are talking! Stacey is just what the Bulls need. Someone who has played the game and knows what it takes to get things done in the post. Stacey is young enough to relate to new players and old enough to remember what good solid defense is, and what a real low post scorer is supposed to be thinking and doing. Stacey would make a great assistant and head coach. He is a likeable guy and knows the ins and outs of the lockeroom and team concept. There is a different attitude from front line guys vs backcourt guys. You learn the non-glamorous side of the game when you play on the front line. You learn to communticate adn follow leadership. You learn to be patient and you know the meaning of hard work, team fouls, and being a small important part of a bigger picture. I look at the problems we have in the post and know that we need a different perspective to help us in that area. We haven't had success in the post since the Phil Jackson era. Brand and Miller were good, but got by off their talent - not coaching. I think Curry and Chandler were hurt by coaching. As we enter the Deng/Thomas, Noah/Gray era and I see much of the same. How many players are we gonna get rid of before our COACH is satisfied. This is the same guy that had to be slapped by Shaq. Says an awful lot...
am i the only one who remembers me taking crap for saying Duhon was solid??
I'm open for some sort of shake-up. My only concern with Duhon starting in place of Hinrich is that it makes us very small in backcourt 'D'. Right now defense should be the main point of emphasis until the shots start falling. Bringing Gordon off the bench and helping our pathetic second quarter scoring average, while maintaining a solid defensive core with three capable scorers to start the game sounds strategically better in the Bulls scenario. Getting some more second half minutes for the second group, with Gordon supplying scoring, may get us out of our 'Final Minute Doldrums'. That's been a major achilles heel the past few years.
well Keith I'm not far behind Norm in age, so I guess I'm a little scaly too LOL. but it's quite obvious that Skiles has tunnel vision of sorts and is stuck with a drive and kick mentality without a pure driver. Hinrich lately looks more like Fran Tarkenton scrambling outside the pocket with no open receivers and most of his fouls so far this season have been beyond stupid. let's see what is it Norm says? if you're gonna foul a guy make it count and make sure he remembers it. nothing flagrant mind you just a good old fashion hard foul kinda like Nocioni hands out LOL. instead Hinrich spends more time complaining bout being fouled.
No.
Roman, I thought you were better than this, but you're falling into the Mariotti trap of disregarding several years due to like, 13 games.
There's been plenty of stretches in the last several years in which Kirk Hinrich did not play well. But to suggest Duhon is better is insane.
Roman responds: It's insane to say I said Duhon is better. I said it might be better for Kirk and the team to have him come off the bench a couple of games. It's not going to happen, but the fact is Duhon's run the offense better lately.
Plain and simple...C-DU should start until Cap Kirk earnnnn his
Position back.
Let him clean up some maybe he will learn NBA style BALL.
Just my opinion.
Bulls should trade duhon to a team where he can succeed. Bulls don't need a quality point guard, there is not one to throw the ball to on this team. Plus most local experts think you have to be a Nash or Kidd to play the position. Look who played the point on bulls title teams, B.J. and Ron, couple of all stars. With Wallace or one of the rooks on the floor the Bulls are playing 4 on 5 offense. Opposing teams take away Deng and there goes any offense, any chance the point guard might have had to run it.
Hinrich shooting around 90% from the freethrow line. At first I thought he needed benching, now I say just wait it out, it will be worth the wait.
