Rex is about to play his best football
I just have a feeling that his time on the bench will help Grossman. He won't feel the pressure as much and I think he could put together a few good games. Who knows, maybe he'll lead the Bears to the playoffs and sign a new contract to stay here.
He played two of his better games last season against Seattle, and he's going to get another crack at the Seahawks on Sunday.
Will it matter with an offensive line that can't block and a running back who can't create anything on his own? Maybe not.
But Rex Grossman is getting another shot.

Sweet! Now we're one step closer to getting a high draft pick!

I hope its not a green jello shot.

Good. But I'm sure if he has another bad game with running backs who can't run, recieivers who can't catch, and an OLine that can't block anyone we'll get to read all about Bad Bad Rex
Go get 'em, Rex

Shame this isn't the Seattle team from last year...
a lotta bit more of a pass rush for Seattle this year....and that "better game" came against a very banged up Seattle team last year....
The NFC Championship was about Defense, TJ, and a circus catch by R. Davis on a terrible pass ....does Davis even line up anymore?
Seattle has a pass rush this year..healthy OLine..and healthy DB's
and we are a much different team without TJ, mind you....ie..nobody to back off the defense or protect the QB
that makes me happy, tho...
This will be the worst beat down of the year....I think I'll break out my Jim Zorn jersey for this one....go out front and rake my leaves during the game

I dont know about anyone else, but after reading 170+ comments on Rex Grossman in the last 16hrs....I need a topic Change.....Maybe we can talk about Phil's "Brokeback Mountain" comment?? Did anyone hear that one??

Maybe Wrecks will wear high heels in stead of cleats so that he can see over the middle of the field. The Bears are done if they think that Turnoversarous Rex is going to provide the spark and "swagger" to go undefeated and return to the Superbowl.
Even if they do make the wild card (unlikely, but possible), they will get the crap kicked out of them in the first round. Whats the point?
Evaluate Orton and let him play to see if he is worth keeping. Who cares if they lose every game, they will end up with a higher pick to draft a better player or even trade down and pick up two or three that can help.
Wrecks is not a great QB, he's not even a decent one...if he was mobile and could buy time like Number 9 over in Dallas then he could get the ball downfield and be a threat, but he can't. He's too short to see the middle of the field with huge linemen blitzing up the middle and he still locks into a receiver before the snap (the mismatch that he sees). Why we would he be any better this time around?
Maybe he can change the locking in thing, but his height and lack of mobility are there to stay and nothing can change that...give it time and you will see...Wrecks lovers you have been warned!
This short, slow QB will break your hearts AGAIN!

I am glad we are starting him too. People need to see the future and its bleak. And keep the excuses coming because he is going to have a whole bunch of them. But the one excuse you will never hear from him is "its my fault". Guess I cant blame him, those checks are good! Now I DARE any one of you guys who were saying "Griese should lead us to the SB because he has the same team ", to put that YOKE on REX!!! Culzie can we hold you to that?
Posted by: Keith Lifetime Southsider | November 14, 2007 06:06 PM
should be interesting.
Bears have no running game and the Seahawks have no running game. Sean Alexander has turned into Cedric Benson.
so I guess it comes down to Hasselbeck and Holmgren vs Rex and Turner, and who can pass protect better.
Who would you put your money on?
btw, is it me, or has Berrian's play and committment tanked since signing with Rosenhaus with an eye on next year's free agent money?
Kinda dumb. With payday approaching seems to me you'd make sure to work on your blocking and your incessant case of the dropsies.
Posted by: Bogey | November 14, 2007 06:06 PM
(add this to my last comment please, I forgot to add it)
The lack of a running game however is one thing that can make the Bears defense look good.
Indy whaled on them by running. You need a running game against the Bears, if you go pure pass, someone like Mark Anderson might actually start making plays and someone like Archuleta won't have to be in coverage for too long of a time.

KLTSS lets stick to your..More Recent Claim...

Hey Culzie, do we have a good mechanic on board? I'm thinking that might be a good idea in case the Rexmobile breaks down. I mean, I could change a flat, but anything under the hood - well, I don't want to break a nail or anything. I'll bring the tunes (screw the polka - it's Nirvana and the 'Singles' soundtrack for the next 2,000 miles) and some jello shots. Or something green. You have tinted windows, right?
Posted by: Julie B. | November 14, 2007 09:12 PM
Anderson should've stayed on 3rd downs. He just gets that RUNDOWN feeling on 1st and 2nd downs. Bring back Alex Brown. (Where is that Mark Anderson is not a 1st and 2nd down player blog?)When McCoun ran for 30 yards Anderson broke containment and opened up that whole side to that play. And,Rex starting isn't the kiss of death and it isn't the coronation of a king. It's an opportunity to see which guy shows up and if he warrants a look down the line. If he stinks they can always say that Griese's shoulder is better and he's getting the next start.

at this point, I am not sure if he is capable of playing his best football. He will at least know going in that the Bears problems are not his fault. That should be a huge ease of mind for him. If that is at all possible. Now we get to listen to all the morons say "it's because of a contract year", if he performs well. it's a no-win situation for us supporters.

Roman I think you might be right. I certainly hope you are right, as I remain a Rex fan and will be pulling for him.
He's the first QB the Bears have had in 20 years with the proper tools and the college passing program pedigree. I just want him to get a fair shot.
Last year wasn't a fair shot. He was thrust into a situation in his "de facto" rookie year, where he was one of the weaker links on a playoff caliber team that lucked its way into the SuperBowl by virtue of being from a vastly inferior conference.
Then all the Kool-aid drinking fans blamed him for whatever loss and from even losing to a clearly superior AFC team in the SuperBowl.
The cycle returned this year.
Rex has his problems, but all I want is the kid to get a fair and honest chance to show what he's got without all the ridiculous pressure.
Seems to me Jay Cutler who has even better tools than Grossman and is under the tutelage of one of the brightest offensive minds in the game with a historically sound running game/line isn't exactly lighting up the league in his full 2nd year either.
We can't all be Tom Brady. Give the kid an honest full shot.
Yes, one can argue he was summarily and perhaps unjustly handed the job earlier, he probably would have lost an open competition to Griese in training camp last year.
But I also don't think the Bears passing game when "good Rex" played would have been anything close to that with Mr. Veteran dink-dunk.
that past is the past and let's allow bygones to be bygones.
The Bears need to see what they really have, without all the crap.
One thing I love about the Grossman saga is that it really puts to ridicule the ongoing claims of some black QB's in the league that somehow they are held to a higher standard.
Posted by: Bogey | November 15, 2007 05:42 AM
Rex sounds like he has the right attitude. I hope he throws 5 tds and the Bears win!!!
Posted by: Hank | November 15, 2007 06:30 AM
I can already see all the EXCUSES from his little Fan Club. After he fumbles several snaps, throws a few INT's, gets sacked and has a QB rating of about 20, they will be saying "It's not his fault, it's everybody elses". I am sooo glad he is starting so we can start fresh next Season with a high Draft Pick!!
Roman responds: I may start a "THE FUMBLED SNAPS ARE KREUTZ'S FAULT" thread. Griese dropped one, too. I thikn it's Kreutz.
Posted by: kman | November 15, 2007 06:42 AM
Good for Wrecks. Hope he plays well.
I was surprised to see him in the paper using the word, "algebra."
So, it may turn out that he can spell "cat" if you spot him the "c" and the "a." I think Bradshaw can master that word too, so the similarities between the two just keep coming.
Now if he can only stop locking on to his primary receiver from the moment the ball is hiked.
I know, wishful thinking, but that's what the Bears season has boiled down to. Wrecks as saviour. Who wudda thunk it?
Certainly not me.
And I don't think it is going to be realized.
Posted by: Seedy Backslash | November 15, 2007 08:28 AM
Roman obviously you're a "the glass is half full" guy. Unfortunately the reality of the situation is Rex can have a flawless game (no fumbles, no INT's) but if they still fail to win (and without an effective running game that's likely to happen) what difference will it make?
Roman responds: Hang on, I have to get off the floor, that first sentence knocked me out of my seat.
And I agree with the rest, but for some reason, I just feel he's going to play well. They may not win, but he does have some talent, no one ever said he doesn't, and I think the pressure's off. It will be interesting.
Posted by: Tim Little | November 15, 2007 08:47 AM
Rex says he is going to go out and play like he is at recess. Finally an honest assessment of his skill level - a playground quarterback. Early first round pick - Here we come baby!!
Posted by: jack | November 15, 2007 09:53 AM
Olin Kreutz has been a Bear for a decade and suddenly he's having trouble snapping the football? It cannot be entirely his fault. This only became an issue last year, but offensively there's enough blame to go around for everyone.
Posted by: Julie B. | November 15, 2007 09:57 AM
Is there a true Bear fan that doesn't hope you're right, Roman? We all wish for the best,no matter who plays quarterback, but as one who has thought all along that we should have stuck with Rex at least through a couple more division games, I'm particularly hopeful. I also have trouble understanding Marriotti's love affair with Griese. His article today was particularly odorous. His attack on Lovie was in very poor taste. Did he follow the Bears last year? I guess the short memories sports fans are criticized about also holds true for sports reporters.
Roman responds: I'm not hoping he does well, I just have a feeling he will. And everybody ripped Lovie for how they handled disseminating the news. It was embarrassing.

Sunday in Seattle....Rain...high of 49....excuse me....Thursday thru Sunday....Rain
This game just became worth watching...
I call 3 fumbles and 2 interceptions....Bears don't score....but because the weather was "unfair"....Rex is our QB...still
While the bald pansy, Matt Hasselhoff, throws for 4 TD's.....but he's "used" to the weather, right?
Rex has great touch on his deep ball (there, I said something nice)....but he can't see, he can't move, and if there's inclement weather, he can't grip the ball....and he fumbles...A lot
What makes any of you think?....Answer that question first and then we'll talk about rex
Posted by: Hitman | November 15, 2007 10:18 AM
I hope you are right Roman.
I have to disagree with you about how the pressure is off. It might be a different stress than the I have to win the Superbowl pressure but the I sucked last time and I don't want to suck again pressure factor is very very high.
BEAR DOWN!
Posted by: Sweeney | November 15, 2007 10:39 AM
jack has no idea what he is talking about. Anyone who has abandoned the season already cannot call themselves a true fan. Fortunately the NFC is awful this year and we potentially can make it to the playoffs. Rex will do great, take us to the post season, get his extension and everyone will be a Rex fan again like they were at the beginning of last season when he was the MVP candidate everyone touted him to be.Just so all you haters know, if he does well and the Bears make it to the playoffs, you're not allowed to cheer or call yourself a "fan" ever again. Good luck finding a new team to root for. Im not a New York Yankees fan, i support my team.
Posted by: Brenda G. | November 15, 2007 10:45 AM
Right now Matt Ryan of Boston college is looking pretty good. With Rex in at quarterback, the Bears may get a shot at him.
Posted by: Jim Martin | November 15, 2007 10:54 AM
Rex is my homie but I never said he was perfect. I think his play will be above average this game. A lot of this game is going to rest on Berrian. Teams are going to be on him more now that we've got a QB who can hit him in stride.
Posted by: Keylan | November 15, 2007 11:20 AM
I couldn't agree more. Rex had his first couple seasons taken away from him because of injury and was never able to mature at the position through game experience and in 2006 he was thrown into a mature, Super Bowl ready team that had zero margain for error at the QB position. You can't play QB with zero margain for error, you have to take shots, you have to take risks and you have to play with comfort. Rex was able to do that last year until the Arizona game and the results speak for themself. Now, with no Super Bowl aspirations, a bad O-line, no running game, a defense on the decline, Rex can take over and play his game....as he said, "like it's recess."
Posted by: Brandon | November 15, 2007 11:24 AM
Man, I love all the people that keep blaming Rex for the fumbled snaps, the interceptions, and the sacks. But did these same people say the same stuff about Griese? Watching those two Lions games was pathetic. Interception after interception...he threw two of this three during the first game in Lions territory on first down. That shouldn't happen. But where were M&M, Seedy Backlash, and Hitman? You three must be protege's of Mariotti, spewing his same crap in this forum. Grossman probably will have another bad game in the near future, but with this O-line, set of receivers, and running back, I don't think many QBs would succeed unless their name is Manning. Also, what's with this love fest of Tony Romo? This guy wouldn't be this good if he were on another team. Put him on the Bears and watch him fumble and thrown interceptions.

Roman, why was the delay in announcing the starter "embarrassing?" Does it really matter so much to the media that they didn't announce the starter at noon? Who cares. You found out who the starter was after a couple of hours. Why does it matter so much?

Roman responds: It's no big deal at all, but it did seem to embarrass Griese. They didn't tell him the media knew and they didn't tell him it was ok to talk about it. So he lied and said he didn't know. It seemed unprofessional.

What do you mean terrible pass to Davis in that Seattle playoff game? That seam route is a tough throw to make and tough catch... But what do you know. You must have been a punter.

Culzie - let make it interesting! You stick to yours about Rex taking this team to the SB, and I will stick to mine about the BEARS NOT - winning another game with Rex at QB.
I think he is that bad - you think he is that good.

Oh please Brenda. It's because I'm a huge Bears fan that I want Griese to start. It's because I care about the Bears that I don't believe that Rex has the NFL skills(except for the deep ball.) to be a starting NFL qb and lead my team. I am not looking forwarded to the next few weeks of apologizing and "it's everyone else's fault" rhetoric. Maybe this time he will actually get it and help this team go on a winning streak and make the playoffs. But from what I saw on Sunday(still locks onto receivers, still can't move in the pocket, still has issues taking snap from center), it will be more Good Rex/Bad Rex.
BEARS
Posted by: Guy | November 15, 2007 12:23 PM
Draft picks are the brighter side of these recent developments. And yes I will be watching and hoping I am wrong about the Bears, but I doubt it. Bears need to start almost completely over. Only QB we keep is Orton and next season we see what he has once and for all. We need to draft and cultivate a star QB. Dump most of the O-line and dump Ced. I would sign Lance and get ready for the post Urlacher era.
Posted by: Keith Lifetime Southsider | November 15, 2007 12:25 PM
Why does the bashing of Grossman have to continue. Why can't we be real Bears fans and hope he does well so they can get back to the playoffs. I swear to god, there is so many people that dislike him, that they are wishing for the Bears to lose so he can be out of there as the Quarterback. Is Griese that much better?? NO! Is Orton that much better, who knows? Maybe if the season is lost he will get a shot. I know one thing, I don't want the Bears to draft a quarterback, next year. I'm sick in tired of seeing the stat of how many quarterbacks the Bears have went through since Favre has been with the Packers. Root for Rex to do well, it would be nice for a change to see a quarterback hang around here for a while. Why don't we complain about the biggest dissapointments this year, the O-Line and Cedric Benson?????????
Posted by: Jesse | November 15, 2007 12:32 PM
Rain Sunday? That terrifies me. Why do they put a retractable roof on the stadium in AZ but don't have one in Seattle? Weird. All I have to say is that I'm happy to have Rex under center. Griese is a legend for "the drive", but he lost twice to the Lions which sort of cancels that out. I hope we win the game. Just like it's "one game at a time" for the team, it's "one game at a time" for me. And you know what? If we lose then I'll root for a win the next week. The only certainty for me is that I'll be getting drunk and rowdy with all the other Bears fans down at the 710 Beach Club where it's always 68 and sunny. Win, lose, or draw. But dammit, I have to admit I'm praying our SuperBowl window isn't closed. Last season was too much fun to have to wait 20 more years for a repeat.

Are you freekin crazy. Grossman sucks. always has sucked. always will suck. I'm with bculz, nice high draft pick.
Posted by: Geoff | November 15, 2007 12:49 PM
I wonder is Kruetz is just so excited at the start of the game, new quarterback or maybe a special series, that he loses concentration..... That seems to be the MO.
Everyone needs to breathe in and out S L O W L Y. Rex is the best we have and I am not worried about that position. Turner, please watch your play calling and receivers, your getting paid for EACH play, not just some of the plays, your not working at Walmart....
Roman responds: The word is he sets up lower to the ground than most, and if a quarterback is used to standing in a certain stance, he could be too high and miss the snap.
Posted by: Dean H. | November 15, 2007 01:32 PM
Give Rex a chance. What do the Bears have to lose, another game? I think anyone who has played sports knows that losing is not an option but rather an event that occurs becasue your opponent had a better game, gameplan, and maybe players. To say, "go ahead and lose in hopes of a better draft pick" is absurd! Let these men go out and perform and let "us" fans; watch the game; eat some food; forget about our jobs; and have water cooler discussions on monday morning. One more thing, will you guys stop referring to the Bears team as "we", last time I checked, "we" the fans were not in the meetings, tearing a ACL, spraining an AC joint and what not! Enjoy football for what it is...3 hours of leisure, not work!
Misplaced Bears in fan living in Romonation...ugh
Posted by: Tex | November 15, 2007 02:10 PM
Hey, seeing Grossman come in and throw that touchdown pass at Oakland was really sweet. I was so happy for him. Still, I don't think it was right what happened to Griese especially after what this guy did at Green Bay(only one loss and to us), Minnesota or Philly which were pure magic tricks. Not only that, since our running game is not functioning, Brian has pretty much been throwing the ball over X-amount of times for a team that "gets off the bus running". He's a special player. That being said, I wish no misfortune to Rex. Roman's right in noticing a difference, let's hope there is one. Go Bears!
Posted by: Mike | November 15, 2007 02:36 PM
Everyone in this thread wants the Bears to win. Yeah, we all have different ideas about who should be the QB, but that doesn't change the fact that we are all Bears fans. I live in Florida now and go to a Sp
