Surprising move today. What do you think?
McDonough knows marketing. The guy conceived the Cubs Convention. And he showed last year he knows how to run an organization. He was the point man in the spending spree that put together a pretty good team on the North Side.
But the Cubs are going to have a new owner and everyone's job is in jeopardy.
It will be interesting to see what McDonough could do for the Blackhawks, who are becoming relevant again in this city.
It makes perfect sense. Mcdonough had no future with the Cubs once he took the President job. He is not a baseball guy. He was not making any baseball decisions. And once the new owners are in place, he was out of a job. The Hawks are an up and coming franchie. Who's best to sell them than the best marketing guy in town. This helps the Hawks and has no impact on the Cubs.
Chances are Mr. McDonough probably would be out of a job with new ownership of the Cubs forthcoming. However, this is a stroke of genius for the Blackhawks. In a league that does not know how to market itself. John will show the NHL how to do it. Look what he did for the Cubs. He turned them into a money machine. He most certainly will do that for the Hawks. Way to go Rocky,a brilliant move
Despite only being President of the Cubs organization for one year, his expertise in marketing can only help our up and coming Hawks. We have the talent, the youth and surprisingly, we still have a solid base of die-hard fans. This base is also slowly growing and this move is a positive step towards the turnaround of our franchise that has been tattered and torn for the past twelve years.
Can I have the presidents job? I will quit the Cincinati Reds job that I took.
John is stepping down so Stony can take over as Cubs President as soon as they are sold to one of Selig's buddies.
Good move by the Hawks. Rick is right he will bring new ideas and excitement to a stodgy sport. Good move.
Its not much of a trade-off, both franchises have loyal fanbases and long championship droughts. His only task is to make the Hawks relevant, worth watching and worth buying tickets to go see in person.
They should have made McDonough President of the whole league! Bringing the Hawks back without also making the NHL matter again in the fabric of sports in the USA might be an impossible task!
Glad he's not a hockey guy! Tallon is doing a nice job in fielding a good team and needs good support from a hard working
optimistic boss. He'll get that from the new President and will provide good leadership to a hockey starved community. Nice move by the Chairman. Maybe the good old days are coming back.
A logical step.....good for everyone involved given the circumstances.....The Blackhawks are for real....enter Marc Cuban.....and the Cubs will be too
I know I missed watching the Blackhawks a lot more than I thought...
Marketing this team should be easy...this current campaign....the commercials are already good
Now enter Marc Cuban please
The moves that Rocky has made in just a few weeks shows how cringe-inducing the ways of his father must have been to him.
I give Rocky alot of credit.
That Rocky is off to a great start! What a cool name huh. I can hear that music!
I thought John McDonough Ran the Broadway Armory league and stepped on guys toes while they were shooting free throws???
I heard he already has sold the naming rights for the penalty boxes, and the Zamboni is going to look like a nascar rig. Plus I guess he is already going to add two or three new rows of seats in the corners and behind the nets, spectators will be expected to pick up their feet when the puck comes in to their area.
