So Urlacher is hurt

| | Comments (66)

All of his angst about being asked about his back must have been his unhappiness with the questioner. Whatever.

But as Brian Urlacher told his buddy Jay Glazer, his back hurts. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7384004

Wouldn't your back hurt from carrying the likes of Archuleta?

Either something is wrong with him or he just isn't inspired anymore. Its in the 4th QTR in the Lions game right now as I type this and I only saw him in on 3 tackles. Something is not right with him and the whole Defense is affected by his play...uh oh Keven jones just fumbled!

I think the only thing that really hurts right now is Brian's pride.

He's hurt and any man with his pride would never admit it. Maybe once he gets his back squared away he'll get back to the point where he's making more plays. On a lot of plays he was just mashed by a lineman and that was all she wrote. I know from experience that a back is nothing to play with.(When I tie my shoes I actually make an appointment with my shoes. And I do all my ground work all at once). Everything we do starts with our back when it comes to motion and running can be painful with every step. You can't relish contact because you're already hurting and it makes you take improper angles to protect your back. With a back you have good moments and bad moments. Once it's hurt you never have great moments. It's never the same as it was before. And maybe what we're seeing is sadly what we're gonna get with him. I wish him luck.

Urlacher's excuse was one of the most pathetic things I've read in a while. He's giving short answers to the media because his back hurts?! What a joke? Answer the questions that are asked of you. Act like a captain and be a man. Don't cower behind one-word answers and then go off to your buddy Jay Glazer and whine about your back and how it hurts. Urlacher put the media and the fan base in a corner by not coming out in the open and saying that he's hurt. Chicago fans are some of the most forgiving sports fans in the country, and we rally behind our leaders. But, when a captain and a Chicago sports legend in the making is saying this:

"I haven't wanted to talk about it because I don't want it to be an excuse," Urlacher said. "Look, I'm out there, and if I'm out there playing I didn't want it out because I didn't want it used as an excuse by me or anybody else. I'm playing hurt, I'm not playing as well as I want to and they want me to explain everything.

"But I decided to open up about this because the media didn't like my answers and started saying I was doing a disservice to the fans. But the fans aren't the ones getting ticked about my answers. The fans aren't the ones who I'm trying to avoid. I just don't want to talk about an injury where there are no answers. But when the media throws the fan angle in, I'm talking. That's what I'm doing now. Don't use the fan excuse with me."

Brian, you are doing more of a disservice to the fans by NOT giving full answers and not acting like the captain of the Chicago Bears. Be a leader! Man up!

Who cares? They got a taste of the "Big Time" last year and now they they think they have a free pass to the big game this year. They don't seem to realize they need to win games to even make the Playoffs. # 54 might as well shut it down until next year!

Great comment, Tim Little!

My problem with Urlacher's disclosure now is ok, he didn't want it to be an excuse, that's fine, but is it inhibiting his play on the field? Forget disservice to the fans, what about his team? I've been saying all year that it looks like he's lost a step, like he's not as fast as he used to be. It would've been fine with me, as fan, to hear that he is hurt. It's not that surprising, everyone is hurt. Whatever is right - the media makes such a huge deal over this stuff.

Good Luck Brain hope you get better sir. I wish i had anwsers but only you know whats wrong. Maybe its time to go to a better team with tradition and superbowl hunger. I am a bear fan and have been since 1985. This team looks awful and not the Bears that carry tradition in running playing top D nothing like that. Marco

Roman responds: Wait a minute. So, will Brian play better on a better team? His back won't hurt him anymore? So, it really is the Chicago media's fault for the Bears losing?

What? Can we say 'Gerry Angelo, you messed up with Ced in there, and not Thomas Jones', or 'Brian Griese is an average starter in the 'NFL'??? Good God. The Bears suck because they got rid of Jones, and Defensive Coordinator Ron Rivera. Not 'Rex Grossman sucks'....

I've watched some of these press conferences and read some of the Q/As, and let me tell you, these reporters are freaking annoying. They ask questions that they already know the answer to. When they don't get the answer they want, they rephrase it and ask again. I'm surprised at the restraint most of these guys show when the dumbass reporters start asking questions.

The problem with the Bears is they can not run the ball and
every one knows it. Benson is a bust!!!!!!!!!! I still don"t
think Greise is any better Than Grossman, all these team have
to do is put seven in covarge and wait for the picks to come.
It is a shame the bears let Thomas Jones go when he was
here teams had to respect the run, what a wasted year. Maybe
it was a mistake getting rid of Tank Johnson too it seems every
one can run at will on the defense too, but I don"t think you
can compleatly blame them when they are on the field all the
time with out rest.
At this point I would rather see A Peterson than Benson at
least he can catch the ball and is a more shifty on the field
Oh ya and did I say he can BLOCK BETTER Too than #32.

Well maybe if the offense didn't suck so bad,the defense wouldn't be on the feild all game long, and Urlacher wouldn't have problems with his back so much.

Why is this such a huge news item. So what, Brian Urlacher doesn't want to talk to the media. I think there are more important items to be discussing like what is going on in the world, ie the war, natural disasters. Sure I want the Bears to win but the media has to get over this issue. The local sportscasting media is making a mountain out of a mole hill with the whole Urlacher v. media issue.

Roman responds: As a media type, I'm not sure how much fans care about the Urlacher-media story. I think it's interesting, but not important.
But please, PLEASE, stop with the "there are more important things in the world" argument. I'm so sick of that. Just because there's a war and natural disasters doesn't mean we can't talk about other things. Give me a break. We can talk about sports and care about sports while also caring about the important stuff. I know enough troops who follow sports as much as they can from Iraq.

Tim Little..funny a** post!

Our Bears have lost their confidence, Its tough to watch sometimes, we always used to be able to count on the defence. Don't know if its nagging injurys to multiple players or their pride's been rocked too many times and don't believe they can get the job done. I remember watching games the last couple of years and you always believed they had a chance, you could feel the energy just watching the game, that doesn't happen as often anymore. Well now at 3-5 the ship is just about sunk, hopefully someone will be a bailing fool.

I'm as worried as anyone about Brian's back, I guess. But aren't we off-point? How many interceptions and lost opportunities, once again? What fan wouldn't have turned this off in frustration after they blew that last drive? A touch-down and some luck, it was still a winnable game. Oh Well. My long-suffering father would have said "gd-it" and hit the clicker. What about yours?

Then can we have a topic started on the Tom Brady-Gisele Bundchen- Bridget Moynahan triangle?

I don't blame Urlacher for getting short with the media. They make front page news about his personal life and then you have guy like Mariotti saying the media made Urlacher a millionaire. I thought it was his football talent and the money fans spend on the game. Did anyone read Carol Slezaks column today about Greg Olsen? She wanted to interview him again about the rap video he made 5 years ago. She wrote " I didn't get any answers to my questions but at least he didn't beat me up". There's are some real *** ***** in the media and I don't know how some of these guys put up with it. Look at the AP story on todays game the Sun-Times web site published. Not a word about Griese and his 4 int's. How would that have been written if Grossman played today?

I think after so many years and especially after having a great team the last couple of years it was much easier to address the media. Now that everything is kinda sucky it's hard to sit there and answer questions that he feels don't relate to football. Someone said that they rephrase the question and they really do. If we were winning more than we were losing maybe the surliness that you guys see from him wouldn't exist. If Butkus was still playing some of you guys would be afraid to ask him some of the questions you ask Brian. He would've grabbed someone by the neck and gave you something REAL to write about. Does Urlacher supposed to say that he's hurt and give the opposition something to think about. They have film and they can see for theirself that he is hurt or lost a step. His speed was his biggest asset and now that he may not have that now or any more who knows what's gonna happen next. I wouldn't be so forthcoming about it either. He didn't appoint himself captain or team leader. He always tried to defer that to someone else. He always talked like he was equal to the other players but his results on the field made the team and the media do something that he didn't want to be to done. It's easy to eat up the endorsement deals and smile for a wanting public. But when can you turn off THEIR wants and desires when you only want yours met, sometimes? By not giving something to write about they are finding something to write about.

Ed, you must subscribe to US magazine. Don't you think he should take care of that little lad?

benson sucks, urlacher cant make a tackle and griese isnt a marino. todays game was a sorry thing to watch. urlacher got beat so bad and he was out of position all the game. benson couldnt gain yardage against an old lady with her back turned to him. benson is a bust like grossman was..... another bad draft pick by the managment. urlacher got his money and hasnt been the same since. now he pouts when the sports guys ask questions about his playing. hurry and let the bulls start so i can change sports.

The only thing that hurts is his recognition that he is exposed as the most overrated player in the NFL.
He had about two years where he played at a high level, but now he is non-existent.
Without Briggs or Harris, Urlacher would not even be mentioned in any talks about great defenders.
This will offend all those infatuated with the "great white hype" known as Urlacher, but the truth is that he is no longer able to fly all over the field and it shows.
He is dominated when blitzing and misses tackles.
His reputation will carry him for a few more years, but he is washed up.
Short answers? How fitting for a short dominance in the NFL!
That was the smallest Superbowl window I have ever witnessed in my entite life.
Hester, Harris....run away as fast as you can from this cursed town and go to a real NFL team...you know...the ones that actually win...not to mention...the ones that will actually pay you...unless of course you are Urlacher...he can stay and continue to sell jerseys and tickets to the game...just don't expect him to say anything...it doesn't have to be spoken...all of us with brains already figured it out...the skills are done and have left the building...now I know why there is so much drinking going on before the games.
Do the Beasr suck? Yes
Can you rebound? No
How do you feel? Yes
Why the short answers? I don't want the fans to realize that I am washed up.
Too late for that one Mr. 54

I was reading on Bears.com that urlacher already had a bone scan, MRI, and CT scan on his back. He said on there that they have tried everything, and they cant find a specific reason for his bad back. I am wondering if they have tried a chiropractor. I went to a chiropractor when I had "non-specific low back pain".It took about two weeks, but it went away, and for good.
Just curious, because it cant hurt to try something new.
And anyone who thinks urlacher is washed up at 29 years old is an idiot. He still has an easy 3 more seasons left if he can solve the back problem.

Just a thought

I agree with others Benson is stealing money from club, Urlacher is searching for excuses for his bad play & Griese did his impression of Rex Grossman so close to Halloween. Coach Smith certainly is showing how dumb he is with his choices of coaches & players ( Benson over Jones etc.).. Turner for starters should get booted out of Chi!

Anyone else seriously concerned about this? Chronic back pains do not go away. This will continue for very likely the rest of his football career.

It's a frustrating year for him....He knows the best players aren't on the field on offense....and why he's on the field all freaking day....and why they're losing

Ed...did you hear about those Forest Fires? Although....they werent really Natural...since SOMEONE STARTED THEM..(oh..sorry...thats what Arson means).

Ahh.....so..i guess we can only talk about the War...

but wait...which war? since Iraq can hardly be qualified as a war anymore.....maybe you mean the war between the Kurds and the Turks??

Ed...you want to discuss....how Israel took out a Syrian Nuclear site??

Roman responds: I think it was an Iraqi site.

I love the way the media puts a spin on a story the way they want to. In Rick Telander's column about Urlacher, he whines about how Urlacher is being a baby, only giving one word answers to reporters and telling fans that they can ask questions at Foxsports.com. Near the end, he says "Rookie tight end Greg Olsen, who has been hammered by the media for a college rap-tune mistake, says of the press, 'You gotta stand up and face the music. That's just part of the game. It's part of being a man.'"

I'd be willing to bet that Olsen's quote was from a while ago and had nothing to do with how Urlacher is acting now. But the reporters will do anything they can to make them look like the good guys and the players the bad guys. Telander talked about how Urlacher followed in the proud tradition of Butkus and Singletary, but that he may cause himself to make a premature exit. Please. I remember a few years back when the media labeled him as overrated. Do the reporters forget what they've said so easily? A player can't change his tune the way a reporter can. Mariotti is a prime example, singing Griese's praises last week and condeming him today. Sorry Mr. Telander and the rest of the media, I don't support your arguement and I don't have any sympathy for you.

Roman responds: You make some interesting points, which is why I wish you would have included your name.
The fact is it was a Sports Illustrated PLAYERS poll that named Urlacher the most overrated a few years ago. It wasn't the media.
And I didn't get the impression Rick was trying to convey that Olsen was talking about Urlacher. That never crossed my mind. It was obvious that Olsen was talking about himself.
Look, I'll stipulate that there are a lot of clowns in my industry, but Urlacher isn't being very smart. First of all, it's a battle he won't win. Secondly, doesn't he realize that by doing what he's doing, he's making himself a much bigger story than he would have been if he had just answered a few questions?
I just think he's immature. You can tell by those text messages he sent to his kid's mom. Why would anyone think that she would keep those private? And why did he send them in the first place?
Anyway, when he's healthy, he's a great football player. He's not healthy and he's not playing very well.
Doesn't matter to me who he talks to.

Thread Idea...

Yanks..Offer Girardi Managers Seat!!!

What's up with the all this media scrutiny about Brian Urlacher. All the media cares about is if whether or not he talks to them but none of them seem to care that his back may be beyond repair. For all we know the Brian Urlacher who terrorized offenses with speed and power may be no more. Let's put ourselves in his shoes and try understand how it might feel to have your body prematurely begin to break down with no foreseeable remedy to the problem.

I think Brian should seriously consider retirement. Back injuries are nothing to be cavalier about and the Bears aren't going to get anywhere near the Superbowl again until Lovie and Angelo are fired - which is at least five years away.

Save your health Brian. Call a press conference to announce your retirement due to your lack of confidence in the coaching staff and management of the Bears. What a sight THAT would be!

This goes out to you Ryan. Stop being a follower and look at the facts. Urlacher is probably the third best defender the Bears have (behind Harris and Briggs). The injury has a lot to do with it, but mostly because he has been asked to do too much and carry the team for too long. He had a run of great Pro bowl years, but those days are long gone. his lackluster play began near the end of last season, although he claims that the back problems started this season.
29 and washed up?
Believe it! His body has taken a pounding and he will not recover.
He will play a few more years, but a half step slower and weaker at the point of impact i.e. washed up in NFL terms.
Anyone that can't get past the "great white hype' is the true idiot!

Roman sez: "I think it was an Iraqi site."

It was in Syria; although I do believe one of Griese's "bombs" was lobbed in the direction of Tikrit, and was picked off by a Sunni insurgent.

Roman responds:
1981: Israel bombs Baghdad nuclear reactor
The Israelis have bombed a French-built nuclear plant near Iraq's capital, Baghdad, saying they believed it was designed to make nuclear weapons to destroy Israel.

A new low in Chicago when Urlacher's ability is questioned....

When I watch football, I watch the line play and work my eyes out from there...(ie...what knowledgeable, people who have played before watch )

I grew up with some guys who are now sports writers..I read their stuff daily ....funny, I don't remember any of them ever strapping on a jock and playing the sport....never saw them in my tackling drills....running sprints till ya puke...definitely never saw them grinding it out with me during the game...

but they have an opinion?

gay

Attack Angelo, Phillips, and Lovie....the personnel is all wrong....it's obvious to those who have or had the ability to compete.....Injuries to Devorcek and Harris mean anything to you guys?...

Brian Urlacher's ability isn't up for questions to people who see the same game I do....

I wish Urlacher would blast the people who deserve it....but I also respect that he's manning up and deflecting

I know media guys want a story.....the story is...defensive tackles don't know their assignments... and the DB's are in dissaray since Vasher and Brown went down

So...the people in front of ....Urlacher ...and behind.. Urlacher... are dropping the ball and making mistakes....

Just exactly what do you expect him to do?

Playing hurt with little help and not bitching?....that's what he's doing....write that

Not to mention the offense is lacking a QB and a RB.....even though they're sitting on the damn sidelines watching.... and not playing

The media should create solutions instead of pointing out problems....but that all goes back to the "never ran a wind sprint with me" comment....

Here, print this....

Defensive line not doing their job
Pro Bowl linebackers left holding the bag (taking on 300lb linemen in space)
Our safeties blow

Experienced, Big armed QB sitting at 3rd string
RB who is averaging 5ypc playing the roll of 3rd down back
Hester, Davis, Olsen, Clark, Bradley, Berrian, and Muhammad left out to dry

Sorry, with this personnel...we are not a run first team....

nor should we be

Print that

Roman responds: I agree that someone who has played in the NFL has a unique perspective on the game, but whether he can be insightful about it is another matter.

ok, just read Mariotti's article on fox, lies, and whatever the @#$%???

I rest my case with my last post...

I'll never read another one of Jay's articles...just like I said I was done when DeLuca screwed the pooch on Vick...hell,..lol.. I don't even know if he still works for ya

.....Mariotti, Telander, and DeLuca kicked to the curb...

I should probably be banned or hired....

Roman responds: When did Chris De Luca write about Michael Vick? Chris is our baseball writer, and a good one.

Brian Urlacher was over rated from day one. He's done! Briggs get out while you can. Chicago owners are some of the cheapest bastards alive. As long as beer sales are up, who gives a dam about the Bears. Thomas Jones is laughing all the way to the bank. Briggs leave Chicago Bro, go to a team that cares. We all know you had the most tackles in every game for the past three years. But the Great Urlacher was given all the credit. He sucks, and he is constantly getting burnt. This city sucks, they are just finding out, what you knew(Briggs) all alone.Don't let them Franchise you Briggs, now that the GREAT URLACHER is supposedly hurt, all of a sudden. Sit out the rest of the season, before you get hurt. LEAVE, before it is to late, and you are stuck in a Bears uniform.

Listen Blogrowski......I dont come down to the SunTimes and stand behind Marriotti's "around the Horn" appearances, so please with all due respect....dont try to do my job....

Roman responds:

1981: Israel bombs Baghdad nuclear reactor
The Israelis have bombed a French-built nuclear plant near Iraq's capital, Baghdad, saying they believed it was designed to make nuclear weapons to destroy Israel.

Hey Roman. I was serious. If you can...tell Urlacher to go to a chiropractor if he hasnt done so already. He should try EVERYTHING!!!!

And as for the media. It's been that way for years. They have a right to ask whatever question they want (to a degree..but I dont know what that degree is), and Urlacher has a right to give( or not give) whatever type of answer he wants. then the media's next job is to analize and comment on the answer he said. Face it.... this is aAmerica where controversy sells.

GO BEARS!!!

Actually, having watched the game again, Urlacher does seem to be getting up after tackles like a man with a ginger back.

I should know, I do it every morning.

Did I hear this right...Lovie stated Urlacher's poor performance was not a result of an injury or pain he is experiencing??

Roman responds: Kind of confusing, don't you think? Lovie didn't know about Urlacher's Fox trot. See, this petty kid stuff Urlacher is doing never works.

Roman responds: I agree that someone who has played in the NFL has a unique perspective on the game, but whether he can be insightful about it is another matter.

lol, Emmitt Smith comes to mind....I know exactly where the mute button on my remote is now

If it's arthritis....I hope Brian gets out now

Lets see....

Run Rex out of town. Done!
Run Benson out of town. almost done.
Run Lovie out of town. can be done (it won't because of contract)
Run Griese out of town. (trust me it will happen).
Run Angelo out of town. (this too will happen).
Now run Urlacher out of town.

Wow thanks Chicago fans for wanting a superbowl team when all you do is run everyone out of our town...... another 100 years and we'll lose another super bowl and run everyone out again.

Don't blame the old lady. Blame the media and yourself!

Roman's response: I just think he's immature. You can tell by those text messages he sent to his kid's mom. Why would anyone think that she would keep those private? And why did he send them in the first place?

Hey Roman, have you paid close attention to the generation between the age of 21 to 40? Majority in this group act immature, and will tell you in a heartbeat they are grown-ups!

Roman, the funniest thing to me, and I am a Star Trek/Stargate/Sci-Fi fan, is to see sixty year old people walking around with a Blue-Tooth ear-piece and think they are with the times. The damn thing barely hanging onto that flacid ear with a hearing aid balancing their head, and their eyeglasses keep slipping down off their face. (I know I going to pay for that one when I get to Heaven, but it is the truth)....*smile*

There are just certain things older people do not participate in and there is certain immature behavior we must accept from younger people. (Remember, this is a Fast-Food, Micro-wave, Gotta-Have-It-Now, All-About-Me Generation we are speaking about. I am not surprise by Urlacher's behavior nor the woman exposing the trash to the media. America loves trashy news-bits. Columnists keep asking dumb questions and Roman you know some are very dumb, and you catch a guy when he just DO NOT FEEL LIKE TALKING!

You have to remember Urlacher is not bculz with something idoitic to say all the time....Yeah, I gonna pay for that one too...*smile*

Hitman:

Okay, I take some of your points. Yes, in the Bears' defensive scheme, the d-linemen have to keep the offensive linemen off the linebackers.

Yes, the secondary is in shambles. Archuleta has been a huge disappointment and the trade of Chris Harris a major blunder in hindsight.

Yes, the media scrutiny of Urlacher has that bubble between his shoulders ready to pop. It's too bad, but Urlacher put himself in this position -- whether knowingly or unknowingly.

About all a player in today's major sports can expect from the media is to be treated fairly.

Urlacher can't expect to be embraced and coddled by the media in the good times of 2006 and not be questioned during the down times of 2007. By clamming up, he is not being fair to the reporters who covered him in all his glory last year. And yes, the pen is still mightier than the sword, so the scribes get the last word.

I don't like when the media takes unwarranted pot-shots at players -- whether it's Urlacher, Grossman, Griese, et al. (They need to leave that to us on this blog!) But if the absurd, free-for-all that passes for TV "commentary" during the ESPN Monday Night Football games is any example, it's all about the glitz, the next big story and who can shout the FREAKING LOUDEST.

It ain't pretty, but it's reality.

Yes, Urlacher's frustrated. Who wouldn't be -- particularly a player of Urlacher's caliber -- given the pre-season expectations for the Bears.

Yes, Angelo, Smith, Turner, Babich, Turner, Turner, and more Turner should be held even more accountable than they've been.

But Urlacher is the face of the Bears and we all "bought" the Bears "product" this pre-season that they were going to be great.

Unfortunately, that product is broken. And just like any consumer who buys a product that doesn't work, we are standing in line demanding our money back. That poor soul across the counter didn't sell us the product, didn't build the product, but they are taking the brunt of our frustration.

Sound like anyone you know?

Hitman - good post! As James Brown once sang - "I need those hits"!!! Keep them coming!

Whole season is going to be a waste of time for the veterans.
You can blame it on injuries overall. And then mediocre replacements (Archuletta is horrible). We lack talent and depth at the two most important positions on a football field; QB and RB. There is really only one bright spot on the whole football team and that is Devin Hester. That is the ONLY position that we improved on from last year. Defense is decimated with injuries. Robbie Gould has started missing. Ced is not PERFORMING better than Jones. Rex got worse (didnt think that was possible). So bad that he HAD to be replaced. And Griese is not the answer, but he is the immediate answer. Even last Sunday's game was better than watching Rex. Turner and Babich are iffy. That equals a bad season. Even with all that...Bears are still able to make the playoffs.

I posted this last year when the Patriots beat the Bears by clogging the line so that Urlacher couldn't see Maloney. Crutch play doesn't work on either side of the ball. We need all 11 out there.

Tim Little:

"Wouldn't your back hurt from carrying the likes of Archuleta?"

Archuleta don't look so heavy.

After Rivera & Wade Wilson were let go Smith said that he should be trusted to put the Bears in the best position to win. Last night I heard that the four defensive coaches on the Bears have a COMBINED five years of NFL coaching experience. Also, check out the Bears website and read the amazingly small amount of experience Pep Hamilton, the QB coach has. Heck, Griese has way more high level football experience than Hamilton. Seriously, I will bet any amount of money that Hamilton learns more from Griese than vice versa. Looks like Angelo has to go back to picking the assistants like he did when Smith was first hired.

No, no, no Ryan - Urlacher should NOT go to a chiropractor. They'll mess you up. He needs acupuncture and yoga. He'll feel better in no time at all!

To quickly back up my previous post. Babich's first year ever in the NFL was as a LB coach in St. Louis in 2003. From 04-06 he was Bears LB coach. D line coach Brick Haley's first year coaching in the NFL is this year. Same with LB coach Hardy Nickerson and secondary coach Steve Wilks.

part of the problem with the defense is that the safeties have been late on their cover 2 schemes the majority of the time....vasher being injured sure as hell doesnt help.....Urlacher being slowed down a little, and all of these things put together explains how teams have been throwing down the middle of the field at will against the Bears...the run defense hasnt been that great but the lack of executing the cover 2 to its maximum effectiveness in passing situations has killed the bears especially in the games against Detroit and Dallas....to operate a cover 2 successfully you need the right personnell for it, and with Vasher and Mike Brown being out and Archuleta and Dainel Manning out of position constantly in passing situations....they would be better off playing more man coverage....coupled with Urlacher being slowed a little by the back....he is necesary in the middle of the field in cover 2 passing sit's, and if he's slow getting to the ball in the middle of the field coupled with Archuleta/Manning.....cover 2 will die a slow death in Chicago this year

Roman responds: When did Chris De Luca write about Michael Vick? Chris is our baseball writer, and a good one.

You're right...DeLuca is a good writer...and I was wrong...it wasn't about Vick...it was about Barry Bonds cheating not being as bad as Pete Rose gambling.....and why I tuned out

Honestly, I didn't think I posted it because it didn't need to be posted....I was out of line with that one...my apologies

Brian Urlacher was over rated from day one. He's done! Briggs get out while you can.

blackwiseman, you have the right to vent and rant, but Urlacher can play when healthy. DO NOT DECEIVE yourself because of other issues. The man can play middle linebacker. I listen to the hype as well, but the reality is Urlacher can compete when healthy. Give credit when credit is due man.

The Israelis have bombed a French-built nuclear plant near Iraq's capital, Baghdad, saying they believed it was designed to make nuclear weapons to destroy Israel.

Roman responds: Easy wiseguy. All I said is that Israel once bombed an Iraqi plant. And '81 isn't ancient.

HERE ARE TWO AMAZING BACK TO BACK POSTS...LIKE MANNY AND BIG POPPI

HEY EVERYBODY....WE LANDED ON THE MOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Urlacher`s back has been a problem off and on since 2004 or longer
all the smart mouth attitude won`t clear that problem up.
He didn`t practice this summer because of GENERAL SORENESS another Lovie PET QUOTE.
Whoever let Tank go without waiting for the test results will regret it,You stuck with him with worst problems.
So who is Brian Urlacher`s back up?

Turner Really had it going Sunday....Throw deep with 3 to 4 players waiting.....what a jerk....didn`t see him ask for credit for that........Stink up the joint with those Bullcrap calls.
Do we have any coaches on this team worth a damn?

Smith's record as coach right now is 32-24. Wannstedt's record after his fourth year was 32-32. And Wannstedt had much tougher competition to contend with because when he was coach from 1993 to 1998, the Bears division might have been the toughest in all of the NFL. Mark my words, after Smith finishes this, his fourth year, his record will be very similar to Wannstedt's.

LOL - love the phrase "easy wiseguy" - who are you, my great-grandpa?

All this talk about the Bears coaching staff having little experience is a petty excuse for our poor performances. The front seven is pretty much intact on 'D' and they get the ball rolling. They've played mediocre this year. It's the safeties that are the glaring weakness this year and the reason for the abundance of game changing 20+ yard plays.

I can't help but think about how well we play with Brown and ANYONE else.

Don't think one player on 'D' can't make a dramatic difference. I recall a certain Bob Sanders who miraculously transformed the Indy 'D' into WORLD BEATERS the last sixteen weeks of football (06-07). Wouldn't you know, he's the SAFETY and main support against the run and BIG PLAYS.

Mike Brown, you sure you weren't a Penn State running back in your previous life?

Roman sez: "Easy wiseguy. All I said is that Israel once bombed an Iraqi plant. And '81 isn't ancient."

The '85 Bears would agree with you ;)

ST reports: Angelo is satisfied with running back Cedric Benson.

any question why the Bears running game sucks?

I will say this...Cedric is not making it easy for me...at least we have a Bye week, so I can see what Maurice Morris can do for me.

Heres what my FF CBS insider says...

News: The Chicago Tribune reports that Bears RB Cedric Benson aired his concerns about the expectations placed on him this season and that the blame placed on him about the Bears' running game failure isn't all his fault. "I've been hearing a lot of people criticize and talk stuff," he said. "They're not watching the games or the plays. They're just throwing out criticism. Do I need to run with more of a burst? No. And [expletive] them. So I guess I'm getting to the hole and walking through the hole, right? ... I only got 13 carries today. Ten more and I probably could have got 100. Eight more and I probably could have got 100. This is like my rookie year, this is like my first time starting and being 'The Guy.' Nobody said it was just going to all of a sudden take off. ... We're behind, so we can't really run the football. I know it's going to turn. I know it's going to get better for me."
Analysis: Benson added that he's pulled off the field on third downs, which limits his ability to touch the football. We suggest Benson should check out his 3.1 yards per carry average to see why he's only getting the ball around 15 times per game. The Bears are on bye this week, and even though Benson lands a nice matchup at Oakland in Week 10, the truth is that he's no better than a low-end No. 2/top-end No. 3 Fantasy

TL:

Maybe the running game sucks, but I'm still sticking with Benson. Peterson's statistics are inflated by the fact that when he runs, it's usually 3rd down and we need 14 yards. AP gets 5 or 6 yards and we punt.

Would I like to see more production from Benson? You bet. Lately, we seem to be losing early in the game and are forced to change our game plan (granted calling anything Turner rolls out a game plan is a stretch) to passing. Benson is not a good receiver and Griese has compounded his shortcomings by throwing low, high, wide, etc. But that's not always Griese's fault.

No matter which side of the ball, we need better line play. Urlacher would be better if his d-line was better. And Benson will be better when his o-line is better.

Benson is trying very hard.....Quoted the little Neapolian Angelski. With that effort he should demand half the Bears money back.
If you ask me to fix your BMW and it still ran like a Ford well I
think you would want a refund.

You know to read and or listen to Bear Brass talk about this mess,
Sound like cold war language or the C.I.A. talking to the press after a leak.
Can`t they talk clear Football Talk not Rocket Sience?

The Fans Of Chicago deserve better from the bears these are the best Fans in the world And they can`t say we made a mistake,we will fix it ie,draft or trade, try another RB or something
don`t keep peeing on me and telling me its raining.

2 or 3yds a game 8 games into the season every other team has benched or traded people who is not up to par.

Angelo/Lovie get it together!!!!!!!!!

Go Bears!!!!!!!!!!!!
