« How about those ... Fire? | Main | Gameday: Bears vs. Lions, live from Soldier Field »

MMA fans, which would you rather see in Chicago?

There's talk that Fedor's next match will be in Chicago in February. Would you guys be more excited about that or having the UFC come here?

I can't wait until the UFC comes to Chicago. I've only been to one card live, but it was a blast. There are so many potentially good fights on a card that even if one is a dud, others will be entertaining.

And it will be interesting to see what happens with Andrei Arlovski. He's in this contract dispute with the UFC. From what I can gather, he has one fight left on his UFC contract, and the UFC wants him to sign an extension before fighting again. It's at an impasse.

Fedor, on the other hand, is considered the best MMA fighter pound-for-pound in the world. But they used to say the same about Cro Cop until Gonzaga destroyed him.

I don't think they would put Fedor-Couture here, but Fedor against anyone should be entertaining.

Chuck Liddell is fighting Wanderlei Silva, but I'm not that excited about that. Liddell's washed up, or at least not what he used to be.

And now Brock Lesnar is with the UFC. It will be interesting to see how a former WWE guy does, although he's obviously a legit fighter after being a four-time All-America wrestler at Minnesota.

WOW...are we really in the dog days of sports? I thought that was August.
Back to back blogs on UFC and the Fire...ouch.

Or maybe these are like the sorbet before a nice meal.

If Fedor fights in Chicago I am there. I am not sure who he will fight I am not familiar with M1. With all the Pride defections to the UFC, I thought that Fedor was on his way to the UFC himself so they could have Fedor-Couture. I enjoy Randy, I always have, but I am afraid that might be his bloody end. I am not sure I want to see that. I would like to see Fedor beat the crap out of Tim Silva though. Fedor-Couture might never happen Randy's having trouble with Dana too about the payday for that one. He was noticeably absent from UFC 77 and Silva said something about not wanting to wait for Randy and that he wanted to fight Cheick Kongo next, which would be a good fight although Cheick has never really impressed me. The Heavyweight division needs a Fedor Emilianenko. On the other hand, the Pride fighters, with the exception of Silva and Jackson, have not done as well as expected in UFC.

If the UFC came to Chicago the most exciting thing would be the local talent that would be highlighted. Chicago has a lot of good fighters in the UFC so the cards would be filled with those names which is always fun. Not to mention the cheese head fighters that are not to shabby themselves that would become instant rivalries.

I am so glad this sport is catching on. You are right, even if the Main Event on these cards is a dud, there is always some preliminary that is really exciting.

Nice going Roman your story got the #1 spot on Google search for "Fedor Emilianenko".

Tim Sylvia

Sorry misspelled ole Tim Sylvia's name. I didn't want to confuse anyone.

Anderson Silva- Amazing to watch

Tim Sylvia- Cry baby with boring fights.

And from the same camp as Sylvia- I love to see Matt Hughes go down on TUF. He wants to quit now too. Another cry baby. Having said that he abused that dude in practice. And as long as I am on it, that fight at the end of this weeks episode, Ben Saunders won that hands down, I would have liked to see it go to a third round I think every viewer out there would have but the end result would have been the same except Barreras face would have looked more like meatloaf than it already did. I give Barrera credit, I have never seen anyone take as many kicks to the face without going down. He was outclassed and out matched. I had no problem with that decision. Dana White is a blood thirsty dude of course he wanted it to go on, Matt Hughes wanted it to go on because he is just a sore loser we are going to see more of that in upcoming episodes I think.

To answer the first question, it's the UFC hands down. I think Fedor's a great fighter, but can you imagine what it's gonna be like when the UFC finally comes to Chicago? It's gonna be crazy.

As Far as Andrei Arlovski goes, Roman let's not forget that he's been unimpressive lately, despite winning his last two fights. Andrei fights not to lose as opposed to fighting to win, and you even said something similar in a previous blog.

I do think at some point Randy vs. Fedor will happen in the UFC despite the recent B.S. going on. And I would put my money on Randy.

Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva is finally happening but it's pointless now that both guys have lost their respective titles and are coming off two straight losses apiece.

I give Brock Lesnar credit. He's not like Kurt Angle (another former WWE guy and collegiate wrestler) who's been going on about doing MMA for over a year now and has even gone as far as to say he would beat guys like Chuck, Tito, and Randy. I think Kurt would get his ass handed to him.

Roman responds: I agree with you about Andrei, but Franklin's fight against Okami was boring as hell, and Franklin got a title shot really quickly. Why not Andrei?

What next... dog racing?

Roman, I know this is off topic, but I REALLY do NOT think the White Sox's ground-keeper should be in charge of re-building Wrigley Field's playing surface.

I feel betrayed....*sigh*

Where is the hate, the animosity, the glee that it was the old goal posts from the playing days of Chicago Bears which have hindered the Cubs from getting to the World Series?

Oh the shame of the White Sox Grounds-keeper!! I hope the Billy Goat curse snatches you up and never heard from again!

You Benedict Arnold!!

Any info on UFC hosting an event here in chicago in 2008?
Curious to know if there has been any development.
