Is this a bye week for the Bears?
I know the Cubs were in the playoffs, but has this been the quietest Bears-Packer week ever?
There's zero buzz, and it's a somewhat meaningful game with Green Bay off to such a good start.
I'm not sure what to expect tonight, although I keep waiting for the Bears to put together one really good game. It could be tonight.
The defense has been getting to the quarterback, so maybe the Bears will force Brett Favre into some wild interceptions.
The running game can't be horrible every week, can it?
It's a good thing the game is at night, or I'm not sure how many people would even watch it with global warming making it seem like summer in this city.

Comments
All I know, is I really need Cedric to pull his weight not just for himself and the city, but because I got a huge wager with Hitman and my FF team is 3-1 without much help from little cedlocks!

2nd QUARTER OF SEASON BEGINS IN QUACKER-LAND
Unfortunately, when the offensive coordinator (RON TURNER) starts criticizing his team's performance on 1st down, it's an indication he has lost control or doesn't seem to know what his team is good at doing.
KEYS FOR THE QUACKERS GAME
Phase 1:
OFFENSE: (IMPORTANT: RBs need to hold onto ball, WRs need to catch it,& O-line needs to BLOCK AND PROTECT 100% better than Detroit game!)
1. Ball control and O-line needs to wake up and play well; as the line may feature John St. Clair, Terrence Metcalf, and Mark Levoir because of injuries
2. Allow Griese to spread the ball around, dominate the clock, and nickel and dime down the field; allowing a 'banged-up' Bears defense to rest
3. Audible to outside runs or three step passes when the Quackers jam the guard/center gaps
4. RON TURNER NEEDS TO CALL A GOOD GAME AND FIGURE OUT WHAT HIS TEAM CAN/CAN'T DO
5. 2 or less turnovers
Phase 2:
DEFENSE:(IMPORTANT: PRESSURE, COVER, PRESSURE, COVER)
1. Expect Brett Favre to throw it up 40+ times, limit him to short passes and blanket WRs and TE, force him into turnovers, possibly for TDs
2. LBs need to take the game into their hands and be dominant
3. D-Line needs to use their quickness and limit penalities
4. Bully Brett Favre....don't miss any opportunity to hit him hard
5. Force 3 Quackers turnovers (2 for TDs?, 1 for Ricky Manning Jr. and 1 for Mark Anderson),3-4 sacks, 6+tackles for a loss/no gain
Phase 3:
SPECIAL TEAMS: (MOST IMPORTANT: UPMEN NEED TO RUN KICKS BACK WITH AUTHORITY AND GAIN GOOD FIELD POSITION ON SQUIB KICKS OR CALL FOR A FAIR CATCH)
1. Go after the Quackers punter...force a bad/hurried punts and block more FGs
2. Stay in your coverage lanes and pin them down, force a fumble
3. Make the Quackers avg. starting position = own 18-22 yd. line
4. Brad Maynard needs to keep the ball up and average 40 yds/punt (Don't Outkick Coverage)
5. Robbie Gould needs to kickoff to goaline or within 5 yd. line and hit the all his field goals, as he might get 4-5 opportunities
Phase 4:
FANS:
1. Fans making the trip to Quacker-land need to: Be heard, show your support
2. : Bring some enthusiasm & NOT GET ARRESTED
3. : Don't sit on your hands
4. Fans in Chicago need: Not quit and believe
5. : Drown out all Quackers fans at your local watering hole
******************************************************************
If Bears can hit 3/5 on each of these areas, expect:
Bears 27 Quackers 26
If they can't hit 3 of 5, expect a score of: (UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS MOST LIKELY)
Quackers 31 Bears 20

FACTOID ALERT:
The media has been making a big stink about the Bears having a revolving door at QB and Brett Favre being the man in Green Bay for the same period of time. Well, during that time, both the Bears and Packers have won one Super Bowl and lost one Super Bowl apiece.
A QB can pass for 1,000,000 yards and throw 1,000,000 tds passes (ie. Dan Marino, Fran Tarkenton, and Jim Kelly) But, the ultimate gauge is their ability to win the last game of the year; something Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Bob Griese, Roger Staubach, John Elway, Jim Plunkett, Bart Starr, and Tom Brady have done more than once in their careers.
Favre may be 'God-like' in Packer-land and will be in the HOF, but, he has the same amount of Super Bowl wins as Jim McMahon, Kurt Warner, Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Phil Simms, and Ben Roethlisberger.

Yes, there's zero buzz....man, I'm tryin to enjoy my sobriety for the time I have with it...I'm enjoying coffee..
AND GETTING READY TO CHEER MY ARSE OFF FOR TOMAS JONES, CULZIE..
my fantasy team is sick now..Daunte Plunkett/Derek Anderson, TJ, Marshawn, L Fitzgeral, D Bowe, A Davis (&Johnson)...let's just say I grabbed FA's like a madman about a two weeks ago and scored on all of em...I so called Culpepper...don't laugh...Raiders can challenge for the AFC with that defense and Daunte....and THREE solid RB's....Anyway, mark that word...
And youre right Roman...really, why care so much or waste a good buzz on the game tonight....everybody should talk about their "other" team and see how they're doing...Raiders, Jets and the Browns are the only other ones I follow...
I'll make a deal....if Orton gets in tonight....I'll break out the booze.....Hey....it's Orton....and I'll build a beer bong .....name it "The Kyle"...and we'll party to the Superbowl...
Time to watch TJ, Culzie.....J E T S JetsJetsJets

Butch, seriously, can't you just write your formulas/plans down on a piece of paper and mail them to Lovie Smith, like most irrational fans? I am sure you have some great stuff to say...but I just can't read your posts with all that 'hitting 3 out of 5' stuff. If you are looking to be a coach, check with your park district or Church. You gotta start somewhere.
Posted by: stuckinwisconsin | October 7, 2007 12:29 PM
Uhhh Butch,
I like most of your stats, becuz you do know what are talking about, by the way which position did you play? Me, I play Linebacker, and a little D-Line (mostly sunday morning stuff). Anyway, unfortunately the Bears have not won a SB since Farve became Green Bay QB, but like I think you were saying, over the past 20-25 years yes, both the Bears and Packers each won only one SB and lost only one SB, so you are accurate that their QB has not really done that much more for them that our carousel of QBs in the same time span.
Posted by: Chuck | October 7, 2007 12:59 PM
Butch that last post was good stuff. Farve is great, but he is due to return to earth. Bears have a good shot. If only we can get our running game going! Go Bears!

Hey Butch..if I wanted to read your blog, id log onto it.
Nobody knows what the he** your talking about Quackers?? And we dont care. Your little insider blog lingo is so queer.
Enough already.

Sounds familiar!
Roman responds: I watched some of that game, he looked just like Ced.
Posted by: bculz | October 7, 2007 04:04 PM
you gotta post my Butch rant too....
Roman responds: I don't have to post anything, and I'm not posting right-wing propaganda.
Posted by: bculz | October 7, 2007 04:05 PM
Just left wing?
Roman responds: Center cut.

Posted by: bculz | October 7, 2007 04:31 PM
What's with all the negative waves?
That's it, I prayed to my satanic god and hoped for a Bears upset and an injury to Favre.
Bears 31 Packers 17
bculz...I could say the same things about your long statistical posts as well.... if you want something creative go to the Bataan to watch the game.... I think you'll be very surprised
stuckinwisconsin.....I don't think I need to say anything, especially with your post name...sorry you're in WI
chuck..I played at EIU with Sean Payton and John Jurkovic.... and played all three O-line positions ....long snapped as well.....I got cut by the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bruisers...both said my kneee was in terrible shape...and coached a total of 15c years at different levels
Keith Lifetime Southsider....thanks for the good words

Adam Archeleta is weak! I am tired of seeing him get beat on plays!

whats long statistical emails? you mean my email that had quotes about statistics? That was origninal.
Im just saying, i saw your "other blog" and I know you cut and paste your stuff from there here. Its lame. Thats all.
Posted by: bculz | October 7, 2007 08:51 PM
Butch,
I thought you played on the line, the linemen are the only ones who really know what is going on in the game. They know who is getting beat, and they know the best way how to take on the D-Line. Like I said, good calls.
Posted by: Chuck | October 7, 2007 09:02 PM
That Trent green hit could've ended the lineman's career, he was bogus.
Posted by: Chuck | October 7, 2007 09:16 PM
Hey Butch...I was just trying to get you to stop posting the same stuff over and over.
We both know that as lineman....we are the only true football players out on the field. After all....we are football players trying to be athletes...not athletes trying to be football players. I didn't get cut by the Bruisers...I quit after all the roids and speed that were going on in the arena league. Plus the turf we borrowed from the Drive was absolutely terrible. What year did you try out?
Hitman my man.........I have a 2 story beerbong that I named after Kyle two years ago. The 'Ortonator' was named so because that's how far his passes generally are:16 feet ( that's 5 yards and1 foot Bculz). Why the extra foot? The run after the catch!! ...............or that's what you need to get a whole six pack in. Yeah that last one was the real reason for the 16'. I did the physics in college where we Illini spent most of our time........passed out in the 'Quad' at ISU..........hehe...yep too many beers tonight....watched the beers annihilate the pack...at least that's how it feels when you are surrounded by these cheeseheads....of course...they did have to sit on benches to witness it.
Posted by: stuckinwisconsin | October 7, 2007 11:19 PM
Chuck...did you ever get you knees taken out by a wuss that didn't want to be a man? I did...then I put that guy in the hospital for two weeks. I got kicked out of the game, but I didn't get suspended. Trent Green's actions were FAR worse than somebody taunting an unconscious wussy. I don't know how he controlled himself actually. KUDOS to him. When you feel that pain and anger all at once......you'll understand.
Posted by: stuckinwisconsin | October 7, 2007 11:31 PM
Did you see how they picked that lineman as "The worse of the NFL" because his remarks about Green doing that and getting hurt?
Posted by: William R. Donald | October 7, 2007 11:37 PM
You original point was missed in the blog. The Bears should send some champagne to the Cubs for being the sports lightening rod for the week! All eyes were focussed on Cubdom and the Bears went under the radar. What a time to break out of their funk! Packers win was HUGE!
Posted by: Keith Lifetime Southsider | October 8, 2007 07:15 AM
bcluz...I liked it better when you said you weren't going to read anymore of my post..move on....actually, I make the post here first then copy and paste it over there

Butch B., send your half-baked advice on keys to victory to Turner; then he can skim through and ignore it like we do.Someone said: " Brevity is the soul of wit." That means long-windedness is witlessness.

i did too butch...i did too....but funny though..i lol'ed.
even funnier was Pauls retort.....thats the best!!!
I know your lying though because you couldnt put your (somewhat funny) pics on here the other day, and you had us go to your blog.

Yeah, I do have to admit I tend to have long winded posts. But, I use criticsm to help me in future posts. I listen to it, see if it's valid, and use/don't use it....

"who do I look like...Christopher Columbo?"
Posted by: bculz | October 8, 2007 06:56 PM
Hey stuck,
What I said was that Green was bogus for the hit. Looking at the replay, that lineman's left leg was planted, and Green went right at it, if his right knee did not hit Green in the head, it could have ended his career. I said Green was a coward(guess since I didn't put a name there...I was talking about Green).
Green should have hit him in the earhole, or thigh high, not at the kneecap. I might've kicked the unconscious fool, he got what he deserved. I have lost all the little respect I had for Trent Green.
And I have been chopped like that, only it was in the back of my knees while being double teamed. Almost busted my kneecap, and I finished the last four weeks limping, and feeling like I was gonna tear a tendon.

Butch B. I'm glad you pay attention. Your last one was brief, totally erroneous, but brief.
