Rocky Cherry for Steve Trachsel; I think it's time to write the "Hendry jumped the shark" column. Remember, if Jones had been shipped out like Hendry wanted to the Cubs would probably be in third right now.
I thought one of Trachsel's problems was that he can be death in the clubhouse -- somewhat of a whiny, "me-first" ballplayer. (Perhaps then he is the perfect fit?!?!?!) However, he does seem to take the ball every fifth day and eats up innings. I doubt the Cubs plan to use him for much beyond a spot starter and in mid-to-long relief. It's not like they are planning to resuscitate his career -- like the Cardinals did for Jeff Weaver last year. For that, they would need Dave Duncan, the Cards' pitching coach. And to paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen, "Larry Rothchild is no Dave Duncan."
Well, hopefully the rest of the fielders will be able to stay awake and alert when Trachsel pitches. But seriously, folks, after seeing Marshall struggling today, it's probably a good idea to have Trachsel in escrow. The younger guys might not yet be ready for a September run, considering their minor-league seasons used to end around Labor Day. This way, if they to happen to implode, the Cubs have another pitcher with alot of experience to fall back on.
I didn't even know that Trachsel was still playing.
Maybe the Experience will help the Clubhouse..
What's the point? The only starter the Cubs have worse than Trachsel is Jason Marquis, and he's overperforming the life out of himself this year. Do the Cubs really need middle relief that badly?
This is a good pickup. I don't think he is the stud they need, but at least Hendry is making the right moves. Gotta have pitching in the playoffs and timely hitting.
Is Jamie Moyer still in the League too??
Well, the Kerry Wood Project will go on the backburner now. A team just can't have a reliever in the stretch drive or on the playoff roster that can only pitch in one game for one inning and needs two days off.
Is Sean Marshall tiring? Will Steve Trachsel be the fourth starter?
Plus, trading Buck Coates, Clay Rapada, Scott Moore, and Rocky Cherry in the last week opens up three other spots on the 40-man roster. Are the Cubs looking for another lefty (Pirates Damaso Marte?) and righty (Reds David Weathers?) out of the bullpen, and veteran right-handed bat (Giants Rich Aurilia?) off the bench?
When Trachsel played before, I almost gave up entirely on major league baseball and the Cubs. Not only does he put the fans to sleep, but the defense behind him can damned near lie down and catch a nap between pitches. The pitching coaches have tried to get him to speed up, and he just goes slower. When they got rid of him before, I was delighted;getting him back depresses the hell out of me. Prepare for two-hour four-inning stints from this turkey.
Seems like a fair to middlin deal. Cherry may turn out to be a good player, but not what the cubs need this season. Guess if you're going to add a pitcher, you can only get one that's available. And one thing about trachsel, he's been available for a long time.
When my cousin Cletus heard, he said Trachsel could make a day game feel like a twinite double header. Cousin Cecil said if Trachsel ever pitches a complete game at wrigely, all them folks in the bleachers will have hangovers before the games through.
But maybe this team can use some slow cooking seasoning this time of year. Adding kendall didn't hurt none, and jones has even started looken more like a veteran than a rookie lately, so if you add Trachsel, could be more of a help to the cubs than you'd expect from just his numbers. Like my granny used to say, "It aint the cut of meat, its the sauce."
Trachsel was probably the best pitcher available. He should help cubs with his vet leadership. The cubs just need to start playing like they are in a pennant race. Playing .500 ball certainly is only keeping Milwaukee & Cards still in race.
Wee Willy and Trachsel. The odds of a world series visit just went down, and the play-off excitement will turn to ennui the first time Trachsel pitches and Willy walks in the losing run. These moves smack more of stupidity than goat curse.
Noles, you are not smart. Marquis is underperforming. Trachsel is
not a good pick up. Maybe for the Whitesox. How can Chicago expect to finally celebrate a world series-after decades of waiting- if this is the best their baseball team can do?
Oh well, there is always next year. GOGO CUBBIES
Bears 48 Sandiego 0
Dee Lee in the CLUTCH!!!! Finally.
Ok, can we stop talking about the return of TrashHEAD and talk about how much I hated the season ender of Entourage!!!????
Bears 48, San Diego 0? What part of Wisconsin is this guy from? Go Bears!! But that score is simply silly.
When I saw this post, all I could think of was Wayne's World...Wayne and Garth in front of the green screen...and Delaware pops up..."Oh great, I'm in Delaware?"...derdeederderder....Oh great, we got Trachsel?...derdeederderder
and yes, bculz...lol, without checking...I believe Jamie Moyer is still playing
I think we got the wrong Steve....where's Trout?
I think Trachsel can generally pitch good games, but the errors will go up because he's so insufferably slow, especially with a runner on first. I would be delighted if he pitched as fast as Oswalt or Sheets or Z. when he's at his best. Maybe he'll throw a no-hitter today and change my attitude. Probably some would miss it though because of nodding off now and then. The only good things about yesterday were that the Cards lost and the Brewers lost.
Wow....just wow.....I told myself I wouldn't get into it with you, stuckman, but look here.

There is no way you can argue he is underperforming. He's way better than his 4.20 ERA? Really? Beginning of the year, he was projected to have an ERA of like 5.20-ish
Hey,Clem, your cousin Cletus's remarks are right on. i can't agree that he can help, but certainly hope he does.I wonder if redhot in his jock would help.
They should start selling No Doz at Cubs games at a discount when Traschel pitches. As a New Yorker I caught up on tons of much needed sleep watching him pitch. Add an hour to any games he's supposed to pitch (if he lasts that long). The last thing I remember him doing is running off the field in a state of fright during a Mets playoff game after a hit ball nicked his foot. This followed a stint where he gave up about 20 runs including a double by the bat boy. My last memory of him was running for safety into the Mets dugout as the fans booed. Just what the Cubs need.
