Diaz vs. Morales

Big fight tomorrow at Allstate Arena. Chicago's WBC lightweight champ David Diaz defends his belt against three-time world champ Erik ‘‘El Terrible'' Morales. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is on the undercard, as well as Juan Manual Lopez. Should be fun and tickets are still available. I'd like to see Diaz win, but I'm picking Morales.

Comments

If Morales is training seriously for this fight, I agree, he does have the edge. Better BOXER, saavy, has reach and height. My concern is whether his camp feels David backed into the title and he may not be taking it as seriously as one should against a hometown fighter. If Morales keeps his distance and let's the sure to be aggressive Diaz tire or make a mistake, fours the charm. Now if David remains close, where he SHOULD be for most of the fight, and he doesn't burn overanxious energy, he may get in the shot he needs. I'm from Chicago. GO DIAZ!!!

Morales is shot. This fight will look a lot like Gomez-Gatti with Diaz being too strong and fresh for Morales.

Roman repsonds: I think you may be right. Morales barely made weight. Had to go to a gym and sweat some pounds off before tipping the scales. He looked gaunt. I changed my mind, I think Diaz will win.

I'll take Morales by decison...........However that's not the fight of the night. The fight of the night is on showtime
Marquez vs. Vazquez in a rematch of the fight of the year canidate back in May of 2007. I'll take the Champ Marquez in another brawl!

Morales gave it his best shot. He is one of my favorite fighters. I think he made the right decision to retire and I hope he stays retired. He has contributed a great deal to boxing with his battles against Barrera and Pacquiao. He should not gamble with his health because he has taken a lot of punishment in his boxing career. He would have beaten Diaz easily a few years ago.

Roman responds: Morales is one of the all-time greats. Every time he fought, you knew it would be entertaining. And it was a good decision to retire. I hope he stays with that decision.
I don't think it would have been easy against Diaz. Different? Proably. Easy? No.

I could find no better place to post the news that PAC MAN JONES just signed a TNA..TWA...TFA...whatever wrestling contract.

Great fight! If you weren't there...you missed a real brawl!

Good decision by the judges...Diaz pressured the whole night. Morales looked better than expected.

Roman responds: Agreed. It was a great fight. You had a knockdown and all-out action. And the local champ won. Great stuff.

Diaz will win....it'll go the distance, but he'll take the latter rounds to win the bout....I imagine he'll be noticed a lot more in the city...particularly during the breakfast hours...Georgia Nicols and Holiday Mathis helped me with this entry...

Region Rat Roman....R cubed....exponentially sound

Roman,

What the #$%&^%$ is the inside scoop on this crazy thing with Donovan George? How can something that allegedly happened 10 years ago be brought to trial now, especially when its a family member that is bringing up the charges?

The boxing world is going crazy with this story!

Roman responds: It's a really sad story. I didn't enjoy writing it. I don't really want to say much more than I've written. From what I understand, there are times when such accusations are made years later. There is a statute of limitations on sexual assault charges, but it's extended when a juvenile is involved.

Any word on the outcome of Donovan's court case?

Roman responds: The last I heard was he had a status hearing, but I don't think the actual trial has begun.

Have you heard what happened at Georges status hearing?

Roman responds: No, but the next court date is Sept. 11.

Any word on the Donovan George case? Seems as though he was all over the papers when he was fighting, now no news on the case?

Roman responds: That's the way the legal system is. They had a status hearing Tuesday. The defense filed some motions. I'm not writing every time that happens. I'll let you know when there's a development.

What ever happened to donovan george i heard he was in cook county jail. I used to go to maine east with him. i hope everything is okay.

I don't understand what's going on here. He's MIA, but he's not in the state legal system or the federal legal system in searches. Is it possible he's just under very quiet house arrest?

he's in cook county jail. he got six months. whoever booked him flip flopped his first and last name. instead of donovan george, he's in there as george donovan.

Roman responds: Here's what I wrote last Friday:

Donovan George, who was an up-and-coming super-middleweight from Chicago with a 15-0-1 record, is serving a six-month sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated battery.

George faced six to 30 years in prison after being charged with multiple felony sexual assault charges for crimes allegedly committed between 1996 and 1998, when he was between 11 and 13 and the victim was between 5 and 8.

George began serving his sentence April 7. He also was sentenced to two years of probation.

(I didn't know about the name switch)
