I like coming home and watching Cubs games on the West Coast. Not sure why anybody would care, but thought I'd share. Anyway, remember when they couldn't win a one-run game or one in extra innings. Now you expect them to win those games, like last night, don't you?

I like driving home and listening to the cubs games. I rarely see them on TV...ever since WGN thought they could get better ratings with re-runs of Matlock. The are blacked out up here when they are on espn or extra innings.
I actualy did not expect them to win either of the games. They seem to have that glaring weakness. Has your expectations really changed? Remember the Mets, remember the Mets(the second one was for last week). Then, think ahead to
Arizona tommorrow. Anyways..............GOGO CUBBIES!!!!
Since I rarely get to watch a Cubs game on tv and basically follow their progress or lack there of on line in The Sun Times I can only say way to go Cubbies and hold my breath til tomorrows edition. Will Soriano's return on Labor Day spark s late season run to the NL Penant and a World Series? I hope so but then my hopes over the years have been crushed like so many paper beer cups. I would love nothing more than to see this head line in October.......
CURSE BROKEN....HELL FREEZES OVER.....CUBS WIN SERIES!!!!!!
Great games the last two nights and the right winner.Even the irony was delicious.Marquis pitches his heart out, and Eyre gets the "W";same thing last night with Hill, and Marmol gets the"W." Both of the San Francisco pitchers were great too and get only another loss for their efforts. Z pitches today, and if only the Cardinals would start losing a few, I'd be highly optimistic. Jason Kendall and Blanco. Does that mean the youngster goes down to learn how to hit? Maybe Fontenot needs to look at himself in earlier films to find out what he lost. Surely a guy that started out as well as he did must be doing something different.Three hours to game time.
I don't necessarily expect them to win games like last night, though of course I'm happy to see them pull out winw in a couple of tight ballgames -- finally. What concerns me is how lost they look against lefthanders; and the bullpen is still dicey.
What I do expect, however, is that they *not* get swept by hapless teams like the Astros, or drop games to the pitiful Pirates. And those games against the Mets...those were just painful to watch.
A month ago nobody wanted the division; now it's a three-team race. And the Cardinals aren't even at .500, but they're only 3 games out? The Cubs should be 8 up by now, if they had played decent ball a couple weeks ago...
I've never had the feeling about other Cubs teams like I do this one...it's the chemistry these guys have....I can see it..and as the year goes on, it seems to get stronger...So yeah, I do expect these guys to win games like this at this time of the season...
didn't get to see last nights game...but I caught em the night before
Cubs are going to have a nice squad for years
Yeah, Roman, I do expect them to win the close games now. It's called having confidence in my team. I'm scared.
Right on, great to come home after a crazy day and watch the game with my main lady. This season is turning out to be unbelievable. I keep waiting for the winning to come to an end in typical Cubs fashion, but thankfully I am still waiting! With that said how is everyone getting tickets these days?
Nice pickup getting Craig Monroe. (Jeff Conine would have been nice a week and half ago) But, I think the rumors of Carlos Zambrano having shoulder problems might be true. Never fails! As soon a Cubs starter signs a big contract, people start hearing about simulated games.
Craig Monroe is a nice pickup for the Cubs; batting .302 against lefties for the season. But, Jeff Conine, acquired by the Mets, would have been the ideal veteran right-handed bat coming off the bench and was hitting .333 in the last month. While, Monroe was hitting .224 in the same period.
The biggest concern is Carlos Zambrano, winless in his last 4 starts and may have some shoulder problems. In the last 4 games, he has given up 29 hits, 18 earned runs, 15 walks, and 16 strikeouts in 23 innings with an ERA around 3.80; going 0-3 with 1 no decision. And, lasting through the 7th inning only once.
Does have Carlos have the Cubs 'right-handed starting pitcher-itis' after signing the big contract? Is there another reason why he signed the new contract, instead of testing the free-agent market in the winter? Will simulated games be in his future? Only time will tell.
Ill be at the games this weekend.
LETS GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Culzie in Chi-Town? I thought I smelled something.......
Roman responds: No, Culzie in Ariz., where the Cubs open a series tonight.
Ah. Thanks. I've been focused on my fantasy football draft, which is tonight. Wish me luck!
Roman responds: Good luck, and don't pick Michael Vick.
Hey Roman, you actually made me chuckle, and I needed it after yesterday's Cub loss. "...don't pick Michael Vick." Great line!If Julie B.goes ahead and picks him, I'll suspect she's legally blonde.
Roman responds: She reports her league's first two picks were Reggie Bush and Travis Henry.
Roman responds: She reports her league's first two picks were Reggie Bush and Travis Henry.
You're kidding, right...If not, this is in Wisconsin....
Don't worry guys - I'm brunette all the way. Vince Young and Tony Romo are my QBs. And Roman, those RB's were MY first 2 picks (#12 & #13 overall), not the league's. I also drafted T.J. Hoshmazode. Championship!
There are times when i'm watching and the cubs do something like a squeeze play, or pick off play, or some other baseball play, and I have to remind myself, these are the cubs. They're starting to look like a solid ball team. It's still a little hard to believe when just a few months ago it seemed they were inventing new ways to lose.
The Z rumours are worrisome, and then tonite (az game 1) D-lee didn't look right running to first, and maybe most worrisome, they showed Prior in the dugout a few times. Not sure if having him around the team is what they need at this point. Guess he could fit the game into his rehab schedule, still don't think he's pitched in a game since getting sent down to the minors.
I don't get into fantasy football, but if I did, I'd realy fantasize and go with Rex and Cedric. Probably that I don't get into it is a good thing, and I really am legally blonde ( with a bit of grey in the spots not bald ).
LOL Don't pick Michael Vick LOL good one Roman. Hey wait a minute.....
About the Cubs- No, we never expect them to win Ro, quite the contrary actually; so when they do it is joyous and emotional. People often confuse that with drunkenness.
We do want them to win every game with every fiber of our hearts. We even think they are going to win but expect? I don't know, it's Cub fans were talking about right?
Having said that..Lookin Forward to October Wooohooooo!!!
I enjoy the west coast games also because I actually get to watch a game that starts after 6pm.
GO CUBS!
Derek Lee is Killing us, and we cant hit in clutch situations right now. The game was 50/50 cubs fans vs. dback fans.
The beer was good though!!!
Culzie in Chi-Town? I thought I smelled something.......
(what did you think you smelled....VICTORY?)
I love the smell of Napalm in the morning!!!!
Cubs shoulda won today! They had so many chances. But, it was a total playoff atmosphere @ Chase Field. My take was the Dbacks had something to prove and the Cubs were kinda going through motions a bit. WRD dont think im rooting for the Dbacks now, but that was my sense.
Cubs had chances to win both games, but didnt take advantage.
Cubs should be 4 up on Milwaukee, but at least they are competing. St. Louis is in position to take over. Milwaukee is done.
Ditto what Sweeney & Keith said.
Here come those rotten redbirds again. Are the Cubs the only ones who can beat them? I don't agree with Keith. The Brewers are not done, but might be after this week. Now if we can mind our own business and take care of the visitors this home stand, we'll be ready for the September push. Nice window dressing would see the Cardinals lose about five straight. Let's hope Soriano's return is not a bust. It's certainly true that Lee and Ramirez have been in slumps lately as far as key hits go. Again, let's hope Wrigley restarts the timely hit scenario.
Now you expect them to win those games, like last night, don't you?

Man, I hate to do this, but I stated earlier in the season come late August if the Cubs are in contention long least first place, I would give an acknowledgement. CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, clap, clap, clap - NO, I am NOT going to scream GO CUBBIES! Now that hurts, man does it hurt clapping for you bumbs! Cub Fans get over yourselves!
I am still a Die-Hard Sox Fan, but can give credit when it is due. It does not matter the division, only the winning record and being in first place does. Doggonit, I hate Cubs fan feeling happy and smiling EVEN BIGGER AND WIDER!
Now, if you knuckleheads can play out the rest of the season on a high note, just maybe I will buy a Cub Fans a beer or two! THAT IS A BIG MAYBE, so do not hold me to it, hell it was hard enough clapping!
Reinsdorf, Kenny, Ozzie and the entire CHICAGO WHITE SOX ORGANIZATION, LOOK at what you have done!! But I love you and I just have to live with the pain this season of not doing well, and those bums from the other side of town are doing just a LITTLE bit better! Cub Fans, you are still KNUCKLEHEADS!
Wow. What a lame division the National League Central has turned out to be.
The Cardinals (yes, my beloved Cardinals) are within two games of leading the Division and have their worst talent in the past 5 years. Ring up another Manager of the Year award for Tony LaRussa? Hardly. Instead, put a horse collar (or perhaps a donkey collar) around the necks of Lou Pinella and Ned Yost. With a lot more talent, these two managers have succeeded at making their teams average. Lou looks like he is mailing it in. The most recent exhibit is last night's 9th inning double steal, which turned into a double play. Lou, in an effort to keep his temper in check, has lost the zest to win. If the Cubs hope to recover, he needs to launch into a dugout clearing brawl with a few of his underperformers. D. Lee and Ramirez would be at the top of my list. Sure, they are putting up decent numbers, but neither player comes close to playing with the passion of a Pujols, a Rolen, or a Rowand. Their lifeless, "aw shucks, we tried" shoulder shrugging play has infected the entire Cubs team.
Heaven help us if the Cardinals win the Division because they will probably do so with a losing record and a day-to-day lineup that would make a patch-work quilt look seamless.
What exactly did that $300M get the Cubs?
They're rolling alright, but unfortunately they've been headed downhill. Only the awful play of our competitors has kept us in this thing.
Are Lou and Jim trying to sabotauge the season? They go out and get an outfielder who is hitting
.222 and then they put him in the middle of the lineup for the next two days, where he responds by going 0 for everything with RISP. Of course, this is exactly what you would expect to happen if you put a .200 hitter in the middle of the lineup. The first game, where he hit fourth, I figured was just Lou getting desperate against left handed pitching. Then, the second game (against a right handed pitcher), it became apparent that Lou is just insane. Monroe is hitting .300 or so against lefties, so what is he hitting against righties?
So the following outfielders are better than Monroe against right-handed pitching: Cliff Floyd, Darryl Ward, Felix Pie, Matt Murton, Angel Pagan, Jacque Jones, Mark DeRosa, and about ten guys in our minor league system.
Lou keeps trying to shape his players into what he wants them to be rather than just accepting their strengths and weaknesses and utilizing them properly.
Perhaps Piniella has been taking advice from Dusty Baker (shudder).
