The way the NL East teams are stacking up, I wouldn't be on the Cubs making the World Series. But I strongly believe they'll win the Central. And once you get in the playoffs, anything can happen (read: '06 Cards). The Bears, however, look primed for a title run.
When the Cubs came back for that ridiculous win over the Rockies back in late June, I called them a Team of Destiny. I'm not sure that destiny is to win it all, but they'll make it interesting.
The Bears, however, are making me think this could be their year. I know teams that lose the SB don't usually get back, and I'm still not convinced Rex or Ced are prime-time players, but I'm getting that vibe that this team will do special things.
Both will make the playoffs, but the bet here is the Bears will be the only one with a championship.
BEARS!
Can the Cubs get in the Arms race too? Mets sign Castillo, Phillies pick up iguchi, (who killed the cubs yesterday), everyone seems to be loading up on their guns, and bringing their friends, except the cubs. I would love to see it, they are playing great ball, but we need a few more arms. Maybe Kerry Wood will come back to form.
Bears!
Tis a wonderful question Roman! You can add the Bulls in the mix as well. And quite frankly, I will have to say neither one will win a championship. Cubs don't have strong enough starting pitching/defense. Bears have questionmarks at the two strongest positions in football - Quarterback and Runningback. And the Bulls have questions in the Post and Star Power (and in my opinion coaching).
I can say without reservation I will enjoy watching ALL of them reach the post season. Tis a VERY exciting time to be in Chicago!
I'm going to have to go with the Bears, but only to the letter of the question--I can somewhat-realistically say the Bears have more than the Cubs when it comes to championship material. The return of Briggs and addition of Darwin Walker give me optimism about the state of the defense; the absence of a consistent quarterback or proven running back is cause for concern, but the rest of the team has been able to carry Rex this far...
Bears.
As a Sox fan, it's out of character to talk about the Cubs, but I believe some pitchers are wearing down as the season progresses, and a fight to the Central finish won't ease the pain. As a Chicagoan, sibling and father to split Sox/Cub fans I hope they make it. But as a sports fanatic and self confessed expert, there is no doubt in my mind the Bears possess the better chance by reason of;
1) Baseball is totally unpredictable come playoff time. Pitching comes right before LUCK and timely hitting in factor.
2)The Bears have the "D" to neutralize any offense (if, and only if the scheme allows Mr. Rivera).
3)New speed on offense
4)With 2 & 3 in place, if Trent can do it, so can Rex!
Cubs need to bring in a few more big names...we got 2hrs and 21 mins and 45 seconds....left.....im sure they wont and they will just bring in a few middle level players...while the BOSOX and ATLANTA gear up for another WorldSeries push, we gear up for a let down......who is the Joe Smith equivelant in the Major Leagues anyways?
Both and..
Notre Dame National Champs!?
Go Cubs
Roman responds: If I didn't know better, I'd say the Chicago heat has gotten to you. But you're in SOCAL.
No Bulls? Neither team will do squat in the post season.
Roman... I agree with you.
Da Bears
The Cubs have a great chance to win the division, but that might be as far as they go. Milwaukee came out of the gate like gangbusters and won't be able to keep up the pace, even with Linebrink. The Cardinals will have a hard time winning without Carpenter, as they have shown, and they still seem a bit unsteady at their new stadium.
The Bears won't do any better than a division title this year and the only reason they'll get that is because of the weakness of the rest of the division. I'm also a Colts season-ticket holder. Rebuttals are welcome.
After making the DT rotation what it is now...Briggs back...our Safeties upgraded/corners locked in for years....lol, just how someone is gonna score on us is beyond me...
BUT
RexandCed are that bad...throw 8 men in the box....Ced couldn't run against that in college (Baylor, Rice, Tech, Kansas, and Iowa State aren't on the schedule...and be glad Oklahoma isn't)....show blitz (joker)...mix up coverages...pressure captain muscle memory...watching him scramble for a throwing lane is painful....RexandCed are an Achilles to an offense with massive weapons....Sad really...any defense with a pass rush and a solid front 7 will beat us..
San Diego is the best team in the league...
Say this out loud; "RexandCed are better than Rivers and Tomlinson"...Doesn't feel too good, does it?
Wanna feel worse?...Romo/Barber/JONES!!/and T.O. win the NFC
Not so sure our defense is that much better than SD's...
San Diego will win the Superbowl...providing no injuries, of course...same for every team....and duh
Cubs have a better shot....young team, great veterans, solid veterans, good speed, no "me" guys, Kerry Wood is gonna be a great story just in time for the playoffs, Z wins Cy Young.. great chemistry in locker room....Lou...and a lot of electricity surrounding this team...and nothing to dampen it out....Like RexandCed
DaCubs
If it wasn't for Cubs futility, they would have gotten more love. Garnett trade has placed a dark cloud on the Bulls.
We have to go with BEARS now. And Roman is right on the money. ITS next to impossible to show up again.
Mark this down.
World Series
Angels in 6 over the Cubs
Super Bowl
Bears over the Chargers
NBA Championship
Suns in 5 over the Bulls
Im taking Cedric as my #1 running back this year. Just to put my money where my mouth is.
No doubt it is a good time to be a Chicago sports fan again!
The fact that we can even have a serious discussion about possibly three of our teams winnin rings this year, is amazing to me. It makes me want to move back, or maybe thats the 112* and 85% humidity talking.
BEARS will go farther because they don't have a built-in excuse. No Goats or Bartman.
It's crazy that flirting with winning a division has Cubs fans talking World Series Champ. I'm hopeful, but we're getting way ahead of ourselves. We have no closer, lack a consistent fifth starter, and live and die by a platoon of young guys that are now showing their age, e.g., Fontenot. I wish Woody could come pitch the eighth and Marmol move to closer (Woody walks too many to be closer), but that may be wishing upon a star. I got my toes crossed, though.
The only thing stopping the Bears are injuries. For all the hate, Rex was the best quarterback in the league for half the season...his FIRST full season starting. I think most of us started asking for more of Ced toward the end of the season because he's the better back. Let's hope Robbie has another great season because there will be some close games, looking at the schedule. Kickers seem to fall off quickly and with no explanation. He's the wild card!
The Bulls are ready, but that Boston trade just gave me high blood pressure. However, Tyrus will be the best Bull soon. If that's close to happening next year and Hinrich actually improves this summer over his rookie year, we can start planning the parade, or at least buy tickets for games in June.
I'm not a gambling man, but if you take your heart out the equation, you can't get around the Bears being the most ready to snatch the crown of all the Chicago teams. They may have the best defense AND offense in the NFL this year. I just hope they get Hester involved much sooner than I fear. He's a better Reggie Bush and ultimately may be the most dangerous player in the league not named Tomlinson.
You know I gotta go with the Bears. Like Roman, I have a real good feeling about the Bears this year. I'm not at all convinced that Rex/Ced won't be bad this season. In Fact, I think they will do just fine. Call me whatever you want, but I think the Bears will win it all this year.
JoeRealist, you made total sense, until your last line. I know Hester is super fast, but he needs to work on those hands a bit and last time I heard, he couldnt remember a play to save his life. Im sure this isnt the first team he has been on that they realized he was fast and tried to work him into offense. How come they had him on defense last year? Im sure he was fast before they drafted him.
I would love it to be true though.
(a small part of me is worried about his cornrows though....could they be a foreshadow of things to come?)
this is the year of the bear -- they both do it. Cubs take the WS in 6 and Bears win the SB on a Robbie Gould FG.
In an effort to answer this question, I think it's important to first realize who this question is posed to. Mr. Modrowski is asking FANS who THEY (feel/think) is the more realistic champ. That being said, and the controversy between what one fan "feels" and "thinks" clearly identified, then I have to go with the Bears.
Why? Because there wasn't once during the duration of last season that I THOUGHT NOR FELT that Da Bears would ever lose. I watched every Bears game confident in prospective victory, and I didn't have to drink any more than I usually do.
The Cubs, on the other hand, still make me peer between clasped fingers over my face and drink like tomorrow's the apocalypse. Confident? No. Awesome? In the most righteous, nail-biting, god-cursing, oh-my-god-we're-actually-scoring-runs type of way...yes.
GO CUBS GO!!!
GO BEARS!!!!!
The Bears by far.
They care of the defense by resigning Vasher, Tillman and Briggs. They will have Tommie Harris and Mike Brown back and they replaced Tank with a better player in Walker who has already signed a new contract.
The offense should be better with players like Olson, Wolff and Hester on the field and it seems that Grossman has responded well to the new QB coach.
I also think that Benson is going to bust out and I will not miss Thomas Jones dancing around behind the line of scrimmage.
On top of that Lovie was taken care of.
Things look really good for the Bears right now.
I don’t' see the Cubs going all the way even if they do win the division or wild card. They are not as bad as the fist two months and not as good as the last two.
This is like my wife asking if I want T-bone or Porterhouse for dinner. How about both? I suppose I have to go with the Bears, but
injuries seem more likely to be a factor in the NFL. I think an injury to any of three or four key Bear players could be disastrous in spite of their depth. The Cubs, on the other hand, seem to me to have players who can fill in with not much loss of overall talent.
I wish I could get in to pro basketball, but every time I try,it just seems like a run and shoot contest with a bunch of kids showing off for their friends and not caring a bit about their teams. College basketball just seems much more team-oriented, and I love it, probably because I was brainwashed at Indiana University by Bobby Knight.
Both the Bears and Cubs have good chances... Cubs are in a weak National League, and if they do make it to the world series, anything can happen... They do have there holes, but so did the Cards last year, and they won it all.
For the Bears, it is very hard to make it to the super bowl, much less win it, after losing in it the previous year. Although, I'm very encouraged by the signing of Walker and Briggs... the defense is back, and you just have to believe that Grossman will be better with a full year under his belt (??).. So I would have to lean toward the Bears on this one.
Either way, GO BEARS, GO CUBS!
For those who blindly state how "inconsistent" the Cubs pitching has been, specifically their #5's, let's do a quick comparison of the Cubs starters and other contenders.
Cubs: 105 GS, 637.2 IP, 3.78 ERA with three starters that average 6+ IP per start and a number five of either Marquis, Hill, Or Marshall, all of whom are at least .500 pitchers.
Padres: 105 GS, 615 IP, 3.75 ERA with two 6+ IP per start starters and a number five of either Wells or Guerro.
Dodgers: 106 GS, 608 IP, 4.16 ERA with exactly two starters who even qualify for an ERA title.
I could go on, but it would just be the same numbers over and over again. Truth is, the Cubs have the most solid starting rotation in the NL, both in ERA and in IP, which happen to be the two most important qualities of a starter. And that so-called lack of a consistent fifth starter; well almost NO team in all of baseball has a consistent fifth starter. Fifth starters usually suck. They're just there so the big three or four can get some rest. But just a cursory glance of the Cubs starters shows that they're number five is far better than an average fifth starter.
The Cubs weakness is their inconsistent bullpen that's slowly started to improve over the season, and their automatic out at C all year long. But as has been noted earlier, the NL is very weak this year,(in fact, the Cubs are only 2.5 G back for the BEST record in the NL), and every single team has a glaring weakness. This is a year where there is no truly dominant team in baseball, so anything can happen.
Da Bears if they had a starting quarterback.
For all the talk about the cubs not haven't to rely on Wood or Prior this year... Hendry does exactly that! He decides that we don't need any bullpen help, since we have wood coming up pretty soon!!! Are hopes riding on Wood's fragile arm, AGAIN!
Interesting question. The Cubs are an up and coming team with a mix of inexperience (youth, like Theriot, Fontenot, R Hill and S Marshall) and experience (veterans, like D Lee, Soriano, Remirez and Kendall.) History (recent or otherwise) is most decidedly not on the Cubs side. The Bears are a mostly veteran group (with some young guns, but especially on the defense, a veteran group) with a recent history of winning their division and making the playoffs. That and winning a championship in the last 100 years or so :-)
Comparing the two you would have to say the Bears have a better chance as the team they fielded was much closer to the championship than the Cubs. Looking at the competition in a championship game and the Bears are closer to the cream of the AFC crop than the Cubs are to the cream of the AL crop.
That said, you can't measure the intangibles. The Cubs are winning games in a lot of ways, with different heroes each night. heck, last night Jacque Jones misplays a routine fly ball that leads to the go ahead run for Philly, and then hits a game winning RBI double the next inning. Ask five people who the Cubs MVP is so far this year and you could get five different answers that are all reasonable (e.g. Zambrano, DeRosa, Ramirez, Lee, Soriano etc...)
Bottom line is that both clubs have their strengths and weaknesses, but if you printed up a score card that weighed what you knew -vs- what you didn't know, it would have to point heavily in the Bears favor. But I like what I see from both teams. It should prove to be a VERY interesting fall as a fan, balancing the end of Baseball with the start of football.
As far as the naysayers complaining about Rex/Ced. Give it up, I agree with you Roman, that there is something special going on with this Bears squad. And for me, Rex is very much a part of that feeling. Greg Olsen and Dez Clark in a two tight end set, with Rex throwing from the shotgun more often is going to be a nightmare for opposing defenses. And for the critics above that say Blitz Rex and put 8 in a box to stop Ced, I say do that all day and see how quickly Hester leads the League in yards after reception and TD's on a quick screen pass or a one move fake and a quick out with no safety help. Good night.
As I am a betting man, I would pick the Bears over the Cubs winning a championship this year unless I got really really good odds on the Cubs (say 10-1 or 15-1 or better.)
The cubs would barely be an afterthought if it wasn't for the medoicre NL. They will never win a championship because they are a chump organization. LONG LIVE OZZIE

I feel the cubs have a great chance to win the world series this year . They have the best pitcher in baseball in Zambrano his record is 14-7 and he has a batting average of .291 thats real good for a pitcher. I also feel T. Lily is one of the best pitchers in the NL he has a pitching record of 11-5 and is right behind Zambrano , with a strong finish he may finsh either right with or infront of Zambrano win wise . Then throw in thier other 3 starting pitchers where Marquis is 8-6 and I feel he has more to show then what he has. If Hill can get a couple wins in the post season the Cubbies could win it all. Thats not counting there bats , they may not be in a home run race but look at there batting average . Once the Cubs make the post season there a very dangerous team . Forget the curses , forget the goat , forget Bartmen , brush off all the doubters , and just play ball. Go Cubbies over a hundred years is a long time .
I can't believe people are still questioning Benson! Did you see him when he ran the ball. He isn't a question mark, he is the answer. With Thomas "2 yard" Jones no longer dancing with the stars behind the line of scrimmage those 3rd and 8's will become 3rd and 2's. Rex will have weapons all over the place and one year of experience behind him. Everyone likes to focus on those terrible 5 games, what about the other 14! Go to any sports website and compare his overall stats to Kitna, Alex Smith, Brett Farve, or Rothlisberger. No one is saying they have to go or else their respective teams are finished. And they all have started more games than Rex. After 8 or 10 games I want to see what you people have to say then!
Cedric Benson was the odds on favorite to be ROY when he came out and it didn't happen because of the holdout. Now after 2 years of experience and looking awesome when he DID touch the ball he's a question mark? I swear some of you people watch more sportscenter and talk shows than the actual games. He is clearly faster and more powerful than Jones was in his wildest dreams. Thomas "about to flop with the Jets" Jones was traded not because they paid Benson but because the team could no longer keep the better more explosive back on the bench to appese the vets on the team. And they found a team that reads stats lines instead of watching film. Carries of 2, 1, 3, 1, and 18, then back to 2, 0, and 1 don't make a good running game. His yards never controlled a game, his occasional long run through a wide open hole only improved HIS stats. Watch how much smoother the offense will run with a CONSISENT running game behind Benson.
The Bears will tear a new whole through this league with ease, and people are going to be shocked when they shouldn't be. By the way Cubs have no chance as usual.
Roman responds: Just as you can't believe questioning Benson, I can't believe people like you question Jones. The guy rushed for over 1,200 yards the last two seasons and averaged over 4.0 a pop over the last four. Get your excuses ready now for why Benson doesn't do that this year. And Jones also showed up for the Super Bowl.
Believe it or not, the Colts were lucky last year: lucky that the Chargers and the Ravens both handed away their playoff games. The Bears have every chance to get back to the Super Bowl, but there are still too many good AFC teams to warrant any great optimism in winning it.
Rex will be just fine this year. Like so many athletes with foot and leg injuries who are tentative with their legs the first year back, Rex will show renewed confidence in his ability to run with a full off-season to not rehab but strengthen his wheels. In addition, the NFL will have slowed down for him with another year's experience. Hopefully he will take a page out of Peyton's training book and practice wet snaps as well!
Benson has obviously given the coaching staff reasons for optimism, but his ability, like any young running back's, to hold up under the pounding of a nineteen game (!) season still remains to be seen.
This is the best team in the NFC, but the Baltimore and San Diego are formidable.

Roman, Thomas Jones was a good solid runner. Anyone with that size and strength would be welcome on an N.F.L. team, and I was glad to have him. The thing that really bothered me was the fact that a guy with arms as big as legs whiffed like a wussy at dozens of potential blocks throughout the year. I'm the type of person that analyzes POSSIBLE (noone can really say for sure) game changing plays during a game, and his missed blocks came up on the radar more than once. I think Benson may have better break away speed, turn the corners better, and can't block any worse. My worry about Benson is his durability and HEART. Safe to say though, I like Adrian Peterson on all accounts.
Rex has been watching Joe Montana and Steve Young practice tapes!
Will someone work with Kruetz about not snapping the ball so low?
DaBears are getting closer to looking like a Superbowl team....The real QB on the roster is now one hit away from being our starter...
When Kyle gets in there...I'd like my answer to this question changed to "Both (Cubs/Bears) will win the Championship this year"
and I will run naked covered in mustard down Rush St./Michigan Ave/or you can pick if this happens....you guys will bail me out, right?
I couldn't have picked a better time to move back home....Bears, Cubs, Bulls....and even the Blackhawks?...and I've been saying Richie Zisk for a week now....
In my 40....well..29 years, there has never been a better time for Chicago Sports....We're debating Titles instead of killer draft position
I agree wholeheartedly with Roman that we should not forget T.Jones. The guy was and is a consummate professional. I think Benson will do fine, but Jones proved himself in the long haul.I hope you're right about the Bears' running game, Neil, and I do think an improved passing game will definitely help the running backs.
By the way, Mariotti was particularly annoying today. What's the going rate on devil's advocates? I suspect in M.'s case it's too much.
Why are people still questioning Benson? Because, for all the glimmers of brilliance he showed during the season, he still comes across as a bit aloof, and seems to think he can just run over absolutely everyone. Oh, and his blocking skills are a tad lacking.
Yes, Roman, Thomas Jones showed up during the Super Bowl and put up solid numbers over the past couple years--but he never really hit the hole with much conviction. Still, if Benson is faster, I don't really see it--Jones could burn people when he actually picked a direction and ran in it. The ability to make people miss usually helps, too, something Benson doesn't really possess to the degree T.J. did. I'm more optimistic about Benson than I ever was about Jones, however--if he plays smart and limited the mistakes, he'll be alright.
I'm more excited than ever about Kyle Orton, even though he's likely not gonna get any face time on this team.
You gave Lou my response and me someone else's response.
Roman responds: I don't attribute posts. The name is underneath the post.
Is it Kruetz or Rex whiffing these snaps? Rex does it too much for it to be Kruetz. It's like he has a brainfreeze all of a sudden. Olin has been snapping consistently for several years and NOW he's gonna go daffy? And it's not Sportscenter that has me questioning Benson. It's the getting hurt with less chances than TJ had. Yeah, you can say that it's because he doesn't get warmed up, but who can really say. We rotate guys in just about every position but O-line. You have to be able to come and go on occasion. Maybe, some guys achieve and don't work any harder to get better. Being Aloof is sometimes confused with being a non-worker. You can't get mad or question someone's football IQ when a guy fails to finish any NFL season in the upright position. NONE of these guys are my favorites so if I question something it's not because I have a favorite sitting behind them. I'm not blindly following my favorite player and making excuses when he doesn't play well.
LOU Responds:
Yes, yes I know people love to throw around his two 1,200 yd seasons. But when you watch top notch backs throughout the league they always have an impact on the game. Thomas Jones could get 30 yds or 120 and the only way you could tell is looking at his stat line. He wasn't a threat to bust a 50yd TD and he was very easy to tackle, so all a defense had to do was hold their defensive responsiblitites and he was no threat.
Look, Jones was a solid veteran running back that knew what to do, and came to play every Sunday, I'll give him that. But Benson is a blue chip power/speed combo talent that basically has to be used for the offense to take that next step. Look what happened when the Chiefs finnally put in Larry Johnson. Holmes had to get injured first and was dynomite, but the point is you have to give people the ball who have top talent and not just stick with the "solid" veterans. That's why the Bears were mired in mediocrity in the late 90's, they kept drafting and signing "solid" players instead of expolsive game changers like Urlacher,Hester, Berrian, Tommy Harris, Benson, Olsen, ect.
Big time players can win you games (ARI last year) and championships even when the other team might out play you, that's why I'm glad to see Jones, Chris Harris, and Ian Scott, ect. go. They're nice to fill out a roster but not at the expense of taking PT away from big time playmakers.
Some people have a soft spot for Jones because he revamped his career and was in there when the Bears climbed back to respectablity, but with him now out of the way the offense can rise to a new championship (victory) level.
I'm waiting for what excuses ROMAN has when that happens.
Lou,
U are 100% correct in your statemens about Thomas 2 yard Jones. I'm glad I'm NOT the only one who understands that. The guy was dependable but that's about all of the posistive I have 2 say. Benson will make the pro-bowl this year. Mark it down.
Roman responds: Two yards? He averaged over 4.0 the last four years.
Actually, if our offensive line stays healthy, I too see no reason why Benson won't be a Pro-Bowler. Our offense is breed for a running game, and with new speed to spread the 'D', long runs are in the future picture as well. Thanx to the Sox stinkin' up the place, I've been able to use that time slot to watch a couple Bears losses from last year. Rex my man, you can't get any taller, but those fidgity hands and feel for the pocket collapsing puts us in a whole new catagory. I'm actually gonna miss the two headed rushing tandem. No telling what last year would have been like if we didn't have the best two pairs of hands (combined fumbles; 1) in football. Nobody can really predict how Benson fairs this year, but the past six years say; 1360 yds., 11 TDs, 1 lost fumble, 1724 combined yds., and with the Lords blessing, at least a dozen KEY blocks. This guy averaged 4.1 yds. per carry without a fumble, and I saw at least 15 carries in garbage time where the 'D' had 9 in the box. Picture just got a little rosier for me.
You heard it hear First, Cedric is going to have a PRO BOWL year!

It was already marked down MG....By ME!!! But I agree with you & Guns.
You know how I know....because....Cedric has phat dreads, not skinny ones!
T2J may have averaged 4 yards on paper, but his actually yards per carry were more like
1,1,-1,2,3,-3,+19 = 4yard average .......i take back my most important move made was signing Briggs, and now accredit it too SENDING TJ packing.....That will prove to be the best move we coulda made!!!!
Funny, the same people who love TJ think Rex is too short!!!
Is there a third choice?
If the bears were playing last season with this season's team, they might have a chance. But for now, they don't seem to be quite caught up with things, still chasing last years shadows. They should play well in some games if they stay healthy.
The cubs still need another starting pitcher and another bat. They still need to trade jones. And they're still hoping kerry wood can make the difference for them. If they can pull one starter from the minors, and pick up a bat and trade jones then they can make a run at it.
I aint about to drink that Benson coolaide! He aint done NOTHING but talk crazy and get hurt. ALL of the good backs keep their mouths shut and leave it on the field. I know Walter did. It would have been more prudent to demote Jones to the second carrier and keep him because Jones is what the BEARS will NEED. We need a guy who can hold on to the ball and chew up clock time. We actually need both guys, but Rhino the Whino probably felt threatened by Jones. We are going to see this year for sure. But that is a position that is question no doubt. Wrecks's performance speaks for itself. Any game is winnable and losable when he is at Quarterback. We have a great defense that has been carrying him like pharoah! He ought to win them ALL with that Defense, but he is losing games because of turnovers. Yall can root for Rhino all you won't. He is only thinking about himself. Reminds me of Leon from those commercials.
Bears don't need a great RB or QB. We need good consistent ones that won't cause stupid turnovers and tax our defense. Rex and Rhino are ok to start, but to not have anyone to challenge either of these guys is crazy. Bears need to exercise some of that fiscal prudence on the field.
Just to let you know...the nic Rhino aint stickin!
I like the Larry Johnson/Priest Holmes debate. When will people see that it's the system before the players? Me, I'm not carzy about workhorse backs because they tend to wear out faster. Was Johnson ineffective in the playoffs because he was run-down or did they scheme him. I'd say Rundown. Change of pace became the norm for teams that made the playoffs. If you're working with one guy eventually you're gonna die with that guy. What will Benson do if he has to sit a series? Pout? Can anyone say that he won't? I think he's paranoid and he upsets the O because they pander to him too much. Chemistry means a lot and I don't know if Benson and Rex will co-exist very well. Rex needs an emotional guy to get the huddle going. T.J. did that sometimes. Will CB? How many times did you see TJ go into a huddle and get excited? Can you imagine CB trying to show any emotion or rallying his teammates with any type of emotion. I've never seen the guy play with any. EVERYONE gets emotional. Even Walter did more than a few times. Benson does not play with much heart or emotions and that's a crucial thing to do as the starting back on a professional football team. Tell me I'm wrong. I don't hate the guy but I love running backs who play their hearts out. Where have you seen him do that? And sorry,Keith Rhino ain't workin'..
I hope not Culzie. I hope this guy is great. I hope he zigs and zags like an EKG! And then his Leon impression will be more palletable.
Good Post Big Willie. I just want to see the guy go east or west and I will call him Cedrick the Entertainer!
Why does everyone talk about Benson's body of work like he has been a 10 year journey man in the league.
He has basically one year under his belt....and all signs pointed to flashes of greatness to me. Sure he had a bit of an attitude, and sure he has the Ricky Williams stigma looming over his head, but he has talent and was the #1 rushing College football back of ALL TIME...wasnt he?
Anyways...
lets give the kid a chance huh??
Culzie I understand them giving him a chance. He's a huge investment. I am talking about them basically giving him the spot without even a decent backup. We have no insurance if this tough guy gets hurt. That position is vital in the black and blue division dont you think?
Well...thats why they pay Angelo the big bucks, cause he obviously sees something you dont. Your not at camp (w/julie) so how do you know he's not competing? Maybe he already won it?? Who should we bring in to challenge him? Duece Staley?
You dont have the luxury in this league of having two good backs for very long. I say, lets see what Cedric has to offer taking the bulk of the snaps, and then if he sucks, we can call for his dread, i mean his head!
Benson is chompin' at the bit. He wants to prove himself this year, and I think he will. I want to go back to Boubonnais, but I've exhausted my resources as far as relatives I can convince to go with me one time. Anyone wanna go? I'll buy you a milkshake at Steak & Shake. (That's a big part of the reason I want to go back - I can't find a Steak & Shake round here!)
By the way Roman, your question has taken on a whole new meaning now with Soriano's injury. A torn quad? Ouch. It's okay, you can change your answer if you said Cubs, right? I'm going to stick with my original post of
BEARS!
BOTH, Bears and the Cubs, same year, you heard it here first
Yeah after tonight, Bears are a lock.
