Hey Cubs fans, does the guy who's hawking that Cubs mantra on tshirts and bracelets look familiar? Probably not, but you've likely seen him before, at least for a brief moment.
Carol Slezak caught up with the guy, and you've definitely heard of him:http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/486597,CST-NWS-cubs27.article
He's the guy who ran on the field and tried to hit Randy Myers, only to be thrown down and booted out.
Good grief!!Sort of like that American Idol guy who made a bundle because he was such a ridiculously lousy singer. By the way, has anyone else noticed that Soriano is not a very good guy to have batting when key hits are needed? He's also made some key errors lately. Is there a physical problem we haven't heard about? What's the inside scoop , Roman?
Who cares!
Oh, so 15 minutes of fame wasn't enough for this guy, eh? Well, at least he's doing something constructive with his pent-up energy this time. I personally think "it's gonna happen" is a dumb slogan and wouldn't buy one of the shirts, but if he can find folks who will, then more power to him.
Unfortunately there is no racsism angle in this story....so....probably not going to get much play!
You wouldve done better with an Obamma vs. Hilary post here!
Roman responds: Hey, I just saw an SUV with your last name on the license plate. Relatives?
Does anyone know where I can purchase an "It's gonna happen" t-shirt?
Thanks!
Roman responds: Read the story.
I want the bracelets! I live in S.W Wisconsin, and would like to get the bracelets for my grandkids. I have groomed them all to be Cub fans in the land of the "Brew-Crew"!
Are the bracelets available somewhere other than the ballpark?
So where is Mark Prior vacationing now?
Was the SUV parked outside of the old crazy horse at about 3am??
Another Cub fan fell on his face last night and was escorted out of the ball park,I guess. The one ground crew member tried to catch him to keep him from breaking his neck, and the second one acted like he would have liked to break his neck. What happens to these guys, Roman? Are they all treated the same? The guy last night didn't threaten anyone and was reaching for a foul ball hit his way.
Roman responds: I'm not sure, but I doubt they would treat foul-ballers the same as guys who run on the field.
Give the guy a break The guy was in his 20's, drunk and stupid but has made his apologies (take a look at the brick) and paid his dues (ie: taken down on the field, banned for a year, had to pay fines, donated $$ to charity, and other actions since then. It was 12 years ago... some of us DO make mistakes in our youth but DO grow up.
Roman responds: Who's not giving him a break? It's an interesting story. What, we're not supposed to report who he is? The only thing that makes the story interesting is what happened 12 years ago. Nobody's calling for him to go to jail. In fact, I just posted the web site where people could buy his stuff. So give ME a break.
It's Gonna Happen wristbands and apparel are available for purchase on the website: www.itsgonnahappen.com
Nothing like a little sensationalism in the Sun Time reporting. John Murray is not banned from baseball, or the Cubs, or Wrigley Field. He was banned for one year, apologized, bought a brick and apologized to the fans. Carol should worry more about reporting the truth or see if the National Enquirer is hiring.
Roman responds: She asked the Cubs about the ban while doing her research. Apparently, that's not enough for you. And because you think she got that one part wrong, you think it turns the entire article - which is about a guy who ran on the field after Randy Myers and is now making money off the team - into a National Enquirer story. Whatever.
Hey Roman, read the article, which clearly states he was banned for one year. Now check out the caption under the photo - rather misleading, isn't it? Anyway, the incident happened 12 years ago, and I think we have all done things in our youth that we regret. The guy is decent, and if you look at the website, the It's Gonna Happen thing wasn't just about the Cubs, it's about positive attitudes and setting personal goals. People actually post their personal goals on the site, and very few have them have to do with the Cubs. Pretty cool.
Roman responds: Sammy, I don't have the paper in front of me so I can't read the caption. If it's wrong, it's on us. Here's the thing, the guy is going to make money off our story. We listed the web site, and I posted it in this blog. We're not ripping him. It's just an interesting story. If it was just some Joe trying to hawk a slogan on apparel, nobody would care. Nobody. His incident is making him money. Now if you're even thinking of saying it's not about the money, I'll vomit.
Met Johnny Murray outside Wrigley yesterday - great idea, fun guy! Got my wristband - Go Cubs!
This guy turn a mistake he made years ago into something positive. By the way, I understand he is donating a portion of the profits to charity. Good for him. It's gonna happen is a great slogan for the Cubs and the Chicago olympic bid!!

You don't know the Cubs are losers by now? Sorryano= Biggest waste of $$ in baseball history...ha ha!!!
Hey give the guy a break, not only is he a lousy fighter but he`s worse at golf.I dont think there`s anything wrong with a wealthy white stock broker making some additional money off the Cubs.
Roman responds: If you didn't see Carol Slezak's follow-up on Murray, here it is: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/slezak/518165,CST-SPT-carol21.article
I notice on his site he has the trademark symbol next to the "IT's GONNA HAPPEN" Slogan. I don't beleive he can trademark an everyday saying, can he?
Roman responds: Not sure. Pat Riley trademarked Three Peat, but that's not an everyday saying. Maybe in relation to the Cubs, he can do it.
