We've discussed this before, but he's put in the paperwork and Culzie's excited. It seems most of you would love this move, but I don't think it will happen. I don't think we'll ever have heard of the group of investors who are going to buy the Cubs.

Wrigley = Decadence
We need new blood, new life, new energy into this team...the Wrigleys still have snooker tables in their living rooms instead of televisions. How can we compete with the yankees and mets of the world, if we are still waiting (literally) for our ship to come in with the Wrigleys. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT WINNING.
SEE UMMM....THE LAST 80 some odd years for proof of that.
The cubs are already'competing' with the yankees and the mets. In fact the Mets aren't even on the Cubs level as far as prestige. However, at least New York is aware of and cares about its other team(Mets). Bculz, go back to your lemonade stand, and try not to get hit by a car..........again. Cubans, yes. Cuban, No.
The Man has the word CUB in his last name.
CUBan
...?
Culzie, you don't sound very excited, but I do love sarcasm. You'd think it would be a nicer ballpark if Wrigley was really equivalent to decadence.
Well he is pretty much done playing with his Mavericks playstation, so its time to buy a new game. Millionaire-Gamehead! This is what we call BAWLIN on the Southside...
The Man has the word CUB in his last name.
CUBan
...?
Cuban and Cubs/Wrigley would be a perfect fit.
you know the man wants to win, is passionate about sports and winning and you wouldn't have a bunch of stuffed shirt Trib accountants running baseball operations and making decisions.
it's too good to be true.
I've been a Cubs fan for as long as I can remember. I've lived in Dallas Texas for the past 10 years. I've seen 1st hand how Mark Cuban takes care of his players. You can love or hate him, but he will take care of his players. He's all about putting together a winning team. If he has a chance to buy the Cubs, the city and fans should jump on the band wagon. Hell, we might even get to a World Series.... I didn't say win one, just get to one.
It's ashame that some MLB "stiffs" are going to have the final say on who buys the Cubs. Perhaps they should listen to the fans, the players and lastly to the almighty "buck". Yes Mark Cuban not only would bring excitement to Chicago, but he would give baseball a needed infusion interest. Remember many in MLB hated Bill Veeck, but he made coming to the park an experience.
& you know this......Ballin'
Cuban would be a great owner. He turn around a Maverick franchise that was a doormat team for years in the NBA. Cuban would fit right into the Wrigley crowd ! I can picture him now cheering on cubs right in the middle of the bleacher bums!Cuban is great for the NBA & would be great for mlb too! We need more Mark Cuban's in sports! He knows how to be a winner! Chicago needs him & baseball needs him!I would love to have a boss like Cuban myself!
Do you actually think that it needs to be pointed out that he has the word CUB in his name?????? Do you actually think we are sitting here scratching are heads and saying "omg Bculz, thanks for pointing that out, I didn't know that." Well, we are scratching our heads............for a different reason,Captain Obvious.
Mark Cuban will make the Cubs a total joke. The only good thing that will come out of it is the unsurmountable tension between him and Reinsdorf(the only one who voted against him getting a NBA franchise). Which will be fun for a little while.
Roman responds: A total joke, as opposed to the franchise that hasn't won a World Series in 99 years and blames billy goats and nerds with headphones for their misery.
It will never happen. There is no way that the other owners will ever approve Cuban becoming an owner of any MLB team.
I can't see the current bunch of faceless corporate beaurocrats and empty suits selling to Cuban. The contrast would draw even more attention to how they have milked the cubs and the fans for the last, oh 8 or 9 decades. Guess the wrigleys would like to get it back too, must miss having all the cash rolling in.
Probably the cubs get sold to some typical chicago sports cabal, with a nebish front man and the money guys all along for the ride. Of course there is an increasing chance that the entire sale of the tribune gets turned around and that could change when and how the cubs get sold. There is even the chance that the sale of the cubs, if mishandled by the tribsters trying to cut too inside a deal, could be the straw that causes the current tribune bond holders to pull the rug out on the whole deal. The low rent neighbor teams may not like it but even selig and reinsdorf may not be able to keep the cubs from the high bidder, unless they want to takeover the tribune corp too.
The Cubs are going to get rich owners no matter what? We don't need a spoiled brat to own the team. Can you imagine Mark Cuban suing a pitcher who left the team because he knows a guy can't hit low outside curve balls, & then gets that player out by using that info. It may sound ridiculous but that's pretty much what Cuban's suit is against Don Nelson.
CuBAN has the word BAN in it.
If Cuban would do a "real" renovation of Wrigley Field, or if any new owner did, I think the entire Cub organization would benefit. Those who want the place unchanged were also opposed to lights, but the lights did not hurt attendance, and obviously were needed to get the Cubs into the twentieth century, with the twenty-first just around the corner at the time. The Wrigley fanatics remind me of people who hate indoor plumbing and electricity. Eyre said he hoped Cuban wouldn't try to mess up the Mystique of Wrigley. Obviously Eyre believes the mystique is important, or at least his e.r.a. is right in tune with the traditional "loser" mystique for which the Cubs are famous. I'm all for changing that too.
Has anyone noticed...that if you look closely, the word Cub can be formed out of letters in Mark CUBans last name?!?!?!?
stuckinwisconsin - Everything you say here should be completely ignored until you take back that claim that Buehrle is not a much, much, much better pitcher than Marquis, because it's not even close. You should try following sports sometime. It's fun!
Come on Roman, that was a little rough, calling Bartman a nerd. I really don't have a bad opinion of Cuban. Rodman told him something to the effect that he needed to stay out of the locker-room or something like that. If Rodman thinks negative of you then what does that mean? I love the fact that he turned the Mavs from the biggest joke in the NBA into a playoff team. I think he irritates some people because he's a rich guy with better toys than most. And "stuck" I see that "the human cicada" is taking your crown for "rips and runs". Now he's ripping you and vice versa or is it "VISE" for you guys? And you're right Mr. Manter,I'm all for a change.
just hope Mark Cuban sues Jerry Reinsdorf for everything he's got. Then maybe he will own the White Sox. Why should Jerry Reinsdorf decide who buys the Cubs
Cuban will be the next Cubs owner...Talk till you're Cubbie blue in the faces....The press will massacre Selig, Reinsdorf, etc, if Cuban gets turned away.....The players want Cuban, Lou wants him, and the fans of the most popular team in baseball want him....
Selig..Reinsdorf, I dare you to keep Cuban from Cubdom....don't bother visiting Chicago anymore, Bud.....and Jerry....meet your new room mate, Mr. Bartman....hmmm?..or how about restaurants?....Cubs fans wait tables.... quality time with your food before you get it...Yeah, I dare ya
When are you Chicago fans going to start realizing that the MLB fraternity of owners is a not open to the general public? Need I remind you of the recent ownership for the BoSox, Marlins, & Nationals?
Mark Cuban hasn't a prayer of a chance of owning the Cubs.
Mark Cuban????? Oh please please please please please let it happen!!!
HItman is my guy! Nice call dude..I agree.
Reinsdork is the evil empire, not steinbrenner. The stuff Reinsdorf pulled off and over in his team ownership deals is nothing compared to the commercial real estate syndication moves he pulled off in the late 70's. Look that up WRD, you could learn yourself some more K.
WRD - WEAPON of RETARDED DEDUCTION
Im copying righting that phrase right here!
WRD
Based on my #1 numbskull.
"Brain Clutz" whoopie-doo. I'm sure you've heard that name before, right Brian. So my acronym spells that. Your whole name spells brain clutz. Grow up already, mr wheel of fortune. Cub in Cuban. Then had the nerve to repeat it. It's really lonely in your world, isn't it??
Roman responds: Brian, you started it, now it's over. I shouldn't have posted yours in the first place.
Mr. Modrowski: hindsight is 20/20. In the words of Cinderella: "Don`t Know What You Got (Till It`s Gone)"
Let's not be naive here.
Tribune ownership(or Seligs appointment)= Chicago's team
Cuban ownership = Cuban's team
Rich: Hey that one slipped past me.....good one.
Noles: O.K., I take it back, however I was trying to make a point that neither one of them are difference makers. Do you believe that at least?
IM FUNNY THOUGH...
B-cultz, I read all of your posts and a lot of them are good and informative. That's good, but that Road Runner Anvil stuff is not necessary. Let your answer enhance the topic, man. Unique personalities shouldn't be an excuse to run over another person's entry. Name-calling isn't necessary. There's a real live person on the other side of your computer and the last thing anyone wants to read is what you think about them after their 80 words or less. Think about that, dude. Laugh at the world because the world doesn't know you're doing it, but don't laugh in anyone's face especially when you don't know them.
Cubs are kicking Donkey-Fanny!
Glad someone playing baseball in this town is.
If Cuban isn't allowed a fair shot at buying the Cubs, it will be another stain on MLB and Bud Selig.
I think Cuban would be an excellent fit for MLB, the Cubs, and especially the fans. Cubs fans deserve a dedicated owner like Cuban to FINALLY care about them.
Anyone else would most likely just take over where the Trib. left off.
Cuban good for Cubs? Eh, not too sure about that.
I kinda have to agree with Donald Trump's assessment of Mark Cuban. He is a loser who loves attention to the point of placing himself above his team. I mean, Mark Cuban hasn't ever won anything in the sports arena. Is having a good team going to the playoffs "perhaps" regularly good enough for Cub Fans? Mark Cuban kinda reminds me of Paris Hilton in the fact that he is only famous for owning the Dallas Mavericks(and just like Paris Hilton is a shameless attention seeking media whore who craves the spotlight and will do anything to keep his name in public discussions). I won't go any further with that, I will let it marinate.
I am not exactly sure how bright Mark Cuban is either. I mean he did make a colossal mistake by letting Nash go saying that he was too old and that his skills were deteriorating. He has gone on to super stardom since. Good for Nash, bad for Mavericks. Note:for gawd's sake do not respond that he is bright because he made a fortune in business. He had a good idea, and sold at the right time.
I do think he would take the Sox/Cubs rivalry to a new level......I can imagine him, Lou, Kenny Williams and Ozzie getting into it now. That would be fun!
What's the problem with Cuban as a MLB owner? I'm trying to figure out the politics within MLB and I don't see what the problem with Cuban is. In a league that has survived the likes of Marge Schott (sp?)and George Steinbrener, what is so offensive about Cuban that MLB will forbid him from getting a club?
I didn't realize that Cuban was so offensive to the delicate sensibilities of MLB. In any event, I don't care who owns the Cubs next as long as they stay in Chicago, keep Wrigley field and don't let the Wirtz family have anything to do with the team. (talk about curses, just look at the United Center and see how bad it can get, 99 years without a championship and the Cubs are still light years ahead of the Blackhawks...) Until the Cubs farm and scouting system get better, we are never going to have a championship team on the North Side, no matter who owns the team.
But I go back to something that I really don't understand and that is what is so wrong with Cuban? He's really just a younger version of Steinbrener, isn't he? young, brash, and with a lot of money, as opposed to George who is old, brash and with a lot of money...
Willy D, you my guy now!
I take it all back.

My post from this past winter...BUSINESS BEING THE OPERATIVE WORD...
The CUBS are back in "business"...and here are 2 good reasons that show exactly how.
The first is that "this" team is for sale and who wants to buy a baseball park, even if its the best one in the world, without at least a somewhat competitive team. This signing goes a long way towards making the CUBS more attractive to potential ego driven billionaires who want nothing more than to be able to say "I" fixed the most "unfortunate" and "cursed" (LMAO) team in sports history.
Second this guy is a player...and in a line-up with Ramirez and Lee he can't help but to produce if for no other reason than the guys hitting behind him...I don't need to point out that he has shown that he can hit...run...and play defense. I'll have to take my chances on his production...he may not be pocket aces...(busted ACES Wood and Prior only got us in the pot and killed us before the turn card came out) but he has to be at least an Ace King off-suit... and who knows we pick up an arm or two on the flop and all of a sudden we have a monster hand.
Alas, no, the CUBS may not make the playoffs this year or next...but they may be geared up enough to be sold to someone who will be insensed until "he/she/them" wins the World-Series in a place with a franchise where many have thought that it was all but impossible. Making that owner the best in sports...at least until opening day the following year.
Those of us that have a few years left in the tank...may look back and remember...that this signing i.e. "business deal" made it possible to win the 2009 or 2010 World-Series of Baseball.
So go get your goats ready, go smack around your Bartman dolls...but don't be late in line for your series tickets...the business side of the game will help this team to get to the place all CUBS fans have dreamed about...a World Series.
In close, although we all know that you can't buy a World series, we have learned over the past 90 years or so, that a little extra cash will go along way to getting you into the ball-park.
From South Beach...
GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!

If Mark Cuban can teach the bleacher bums some manners, then I'm all for it. Could someone please explain to me the cup-throwing display that took place after the Cubs went ahead in the 8th? They took the lead, dummies! I cheer for both the Cubs and the Sox, but if anyone wonders why I consider myself a Sox fan, that's it.
Roman responds: We had the game on in the office and saw the trash and had no idea what was going on. We thought there was a controversy we were missing. Idiots.
What if fans were allowed to utilize the "Best interest" clause? I'd trade Peter Angelos, the depressing Orioles, team colors and all in exchange for the Cubs, if Mark Cuban owned the Cubs. Camden Yards would look great dressed in Cub Blue.

Sorry Julie, a bum can't teach a bum anything but bum behavior.
We already have Donald Trump's garbage in Chicago already. Do we really need Cuban's???? If we couldn't trump Trump, then at least Cubs ban Cuban.
Since some of you still believe that MLB is open to the public for new ownership I will tell you the pecking order:
1) Any current ownership group will have first dibs.
2) Friends of current owners have the second dibs.
3) Friends of the commissioner. This is a last resort scenario.
Expansion is a different scenario. The ridiculous entrance fee in the 100's of millions makes it more open to the public. That's Cuban's best chance of becoming a MLB owner.
Mavericks fan from Dallas here… Say what you will about Cuban’s antics. It’s no secret that the guy has the ability to whine a lot and sticks his nose in areas that an owner’s nose shouldn’t be (like a team huddle courtside during a timeout or charging onto the court after a perceived bad call, classic Cuban). All that said, there is no other owner in any sport that wants and is willing to do anything within their power to bring their team wins and ultimately (God willing in the Mavs case) a championship.
Shortly after Cuban bought the Mav’s, I remember watching an interview with Michael Finley where he said before Cuban arrived; if the guys were hungry after games their only option was leftovers from the concession stands. Cuban listened to the players and brought in professional chefs that provided meals designed by nutritionists to cater every pre and post game. Bought the team a new private Jet equipped with an outstanding weight and rehab facility. Those are only two changes among MANY that Cuban made to the Mav’s to give the players anything they need at arms length.
The guy has his tantrums, no doubt about it but so do many “fans”. He’s a guy who grew up middle-class and earned his money on his own. He spends many hours per week answering emails from fans trying as hard as he can to reply to all of them, how many owners do that? He doesn’t sit up in some luxury box in a suit and tie watching to see if his “investment” profits that night. He wears a T-shirt and jeans and sits at the end of the court among the fans cheering when things go great and yelling when they don’t. Just like the rest of us fans.
Maybe the Cubbies like rain soaked/mildo infested locker rooms?
