Remember how some people considered the Sox to be underachievers last season, when they won 90 games. That wasn't good enough for a reigning World Series champ. Is it just me, or does that World Series title seem like 10 years ago? Don't stop believing? Please.
Judging by our beat writer, Joe Cowley, who broke the story in Sunday's paper, Mark Buehrle looks to be on his way out - perhaps to Boston. Maybe Jermaine Dye, too.
It's amazing how far and how fast this team has fallen. Sure, the Sox play in a tough division, but they just don't seem to have any heart.
Time to get out the white flag.
I just wanted to say how ecstatic I am that the Sox are pathetic and also that every single Sox fan on the planet should shut their mouth about the Cubs being bad because we just swept your sorry rear ends!!! Go Cubbies!!!!!
Pod had it right, sox play with no energy.Big bats Dye,Konerko & Thome not so big in 07.The others callups, replacement players ( Mackowiak,Cintron etc.)& regulars (Iguchi,Uribe,AJ) aren't doing the job they are paid well to do,period! Sox couldn't hit water if they played in the lake! The bullpen another disaster .Its a shame sox may unload Buerhle probably the only sox player who is playing up to expectations. Most clubs would of fired the hitting & pitching coaches for such sorry results. As been written many times you can't totally blame the coaches(or Oz ) but something needed to happen to shake things up.GM Williams talks big but has done nothing to improve club & it has caught up with sox in 07. No accountability from the top & allot of finger pointing . When sox GM looks for changes he should start by looking in the mirror.
White flag is all soaked in our own blood. We are not only losing, but losing heart-breaking efforts. Lost almost all of these games by 3 or less points (not just to the CUBS). That used to be the margin that was sure to ignite an exciting Southside comeback. Kenny needs to make some major moves, but the pitching is not what sucks the most, its the ice cold bats and the bullpen. I just think this entire year is a fluke. One of those years where the stars are aligned against us. It happens and alas, we need to adopt the old Cub mantra - "wait til next year". I have not forgotten what the Sox have given me consistently every year and 05. I WILL NEVER STOP BELIEVING!!! I thank Jerry, Kenny and Ozzie for trying to keep it all together. I look back and say they should have never moved Frank and Rowand. But I am thankful that they tried to keep the good times rolling vs. what Krause did to the Bulls. This type of thing comes along once in a lifetime - and I AM NOTHING BUT GRATEFUL. Time for Kenny to put in a throw-back DVD of Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby in "Let's do it Again". I can hear Mavis Staples singing right now...
The Cubs came in and got it done with great pitching, coaching, timely hitting and execution. They swept us in our own house - and its time to tip our hats to them. They DOMINATED US this year taking 5 of 6. I am a Sox fan, not a Cubs basher. They played great! And they have what it takes to make some noise in the playoffs. Sox are out of it...go CUBS!
Don't be too happy that the cubs beat a sorry a** White Sox team. It's not like they beat our 05 CHAMPIONSHIP squad. 10 years??? It feels like yesterday. Time to get out the White Sox DVDs from 05.
Here I was sick to death of listening to that lame "They gone" comment and you add insult to injury by titling your blog with that inanity. It might have been even worse if he'd said it after Sox strike-outs. He had a lot more opportunities there. As far as Buehrle goes, " He gone. "
Let's hope the Cubs can keep the streak going. Maybe they'll be able to get to .500 by the end of the week.
Roman responds: Sorry. I know it's overused. It was the best I could come up with at the time. Got a better one?
Please don't turn on the Hawk-er-roo! Not his fault we have nothing to put on the board! I love Hawkisms! He has a pulse and nothing is wrong with that. Funny how stale things get when you are not winning. I cringe everytime Hawk says "sit down and strap it in", because I know we are going for a bad ride. I could 3 stooge slap the entire bullpen.
Roman responds: Gotta tell you, turning 3-Stooge-slap into a verb made me laugh - a lot. Thanks.
Gotta blame this sox downfall on the GM... fine he traded Gracia, who hasn't done anything, and McCarthy, but he didn't get anything that would help them this year, maybe anytime soon. SS sucks... Erstad in center, no thanks... Signing Javy long term, but not Buerhle??!? AND just 2 years away from a championship! This isn't the small market like the marlins and diamondbacks... we're a big market team! What happened to "if you come, we'll get you a team"... Quoting Hawk "BS!"
AND loved Hawks temper tantrum after the that crazy play in the 8th, classic! He should have been watching the the replays on WGN...
Sorry about your Sox Roman. I think you are giving up to early though but I am a Cub fan. It has been as late as September some years and I have still been heard saying, "They are not mathematically out of it yet!"
Wouldn't an MMA Blog make you feel better?
Roman responds: My Sox? Since when? I'll start a thread on Saturday's card.
A few suggestions:
"Grab some bench"
"You can cancel the post-game show"
This season is "ov-ah"
"Mercy"
you can put it on the board .... sox suck! yes!
Dear Permalink,
I am so happy to see that you have found so much joy in your Cubs sweeping the White Sox this past weekend. I would have to believe it isn't easy to find much joy when you are fan of the most pathetic and futile of franchises in all of pro sports. After what is surely soon to be a hundred years without a championship Cub fans do deserve the events of the past weekend, for you don't have much else.
I agree the Cubs are a losing organization. But to suggest an organization that has won one championship in 90 years(Black Sox) is any different than the organization that has one in 99 years(Cubs) is ridiculous.
Roman responds: It's 100 percent different.
Sox have worst commentating in the history of sports broadcasting. How can tv networks allow commentators to be so blatenly biased. What ever happened to objectivity in reporting? From "get out, get out" when there's a Sox flyball, "get down, get down" for an opponents, or persistent reference to "our guys", "we need a hit" ...... etc. I counted 7 times in one inning on Saturday where they referred to the Sox as "we".
Chicago networks should be saying "They gone" to this embarassing tandem
hey tyrone---when was the last time the Cubs won anything
thats all cub fans have to cheer about is beating the Sox because they wont win enough games to even smell the postseason
Who the hell is Permalink?
I thought I was the only Cub fan here. ;p
The whole idea of having two baseball teams is to double your chances of winning the title, not to double your embarassment.
I can't believe Ozzie still has a job. I can't see him making it past the fourth of July. I think the only reason he is still around is Reinsdorf doesnt want people to say "I told you so".You should also have a Blog about that idiot "The Hawk" and all the stupid things he says.
I just wanted to say how ecstatic I am that the Sox are pathetic and also
that every single Sox fan on the planet should shut their mouth about the
Cubs being bad because we just swept your sorry rear ends!!! Go Cubbies!!!!!

Aaww Shut up already Tyrone.....*Damn you White Sox, now I got to listen to a
Cubbie fan whose team has not won a darn thing in the last decade or two!!*
********************************************
you can put it on the board .... sox suck! yes!

Mr Irishfball1, did you really have to go for the jugular?
A swift kick in the testicles would have work...*Damn you White Sox*
Ozzie, you blankety blank & Kenny Williams, you !@#$%^#$%$
and who the blame really lays upon is
the players with their over-paid blankety-blank, so and so, !@#$%#$%^%^&*
White Sox please show some life, PLEASE!! Don't just give up!
So you lost the bragging rights to to the Cubbies this year,
their butts are not going any where. SHOW SOME FIGHT at least!
Somebody please pass the 2005 DVD and some
paper towels, Kleenex will not do.
No team stays on top all of the time. This includes the Sox. Be realistic. The Sox played hardly well enough in the second half of 2005 to win the division. They beat the Astros but didn't blow them away. The number of one run games won by the Sox in the first half of 2005 was an anomoly. I loved every minute of the first half of 2005, hated the second half and reveled in the World Series victory. However, I was not a believer that the Sox had a team that could have another fairy tail season in 2006. I liked the 2006 season but there were warning signs of what was to come. I hated it when Ordonez left. I hated the Lee trade. I like Podsednik but don't believe we had to give up a player like Lee to get him. I also felt that the Sox lost a lot of good personality/good energy when Rowand left. Yeah, but to get Thome! Would you make the same trade today??? I have a hard time answereing this question. Then there is Ozzie and his sidekick Cora. I like neither one of them. Ozzie is looked at, by a lot of fans, as a person that is funny, fun and almost childlike in a playful manner. Ozzie isn't as mature as he needs to be and he doesn't manage well in game situations. Add to this his immature idea of how to motivate during a downslide. Smile and try not to let it worry you. Come on. His sidekick Cora is probably the worst third base coach I have ever seen and pray tell why is he still with the team? Doesn't make sense to me that Cora is there now or why he was kept as third base coach for so long when everyone that knows anything about baseball knew Cora was doing a poor job. Williams is a good man. He has made some mistakes but who hasn't. The Sox starting pitching is good enough to win games. I would not trade any of the starting pitchers. Williams and Ozzie need to find a way to effectively change the relief group of pitchers, except for Jenks, we need a new hitting coach and the hitters to take a lot of batting/bunting practice. Dye is a gamer and needs to stay in Chicago. I don't think the Sox need both Konerko and Thome. Thome is a great player but strikes out a lot against lefties. We need speed and someone who can put the ball in play. Take your pick, either put Konerko or Thome in a deal for some relief pitching. The Sox are a mess right now. No energy, a slump that says it is more than a slump. Please, Williams, no knee jerk reactions. Pitching is still the name of the game and the Sox have good starters that have no offensive support. Move wisely and only when and where you need to.
To Tyrone:
Yes, your Cubs just plain outplayed the Sox. Too bad you couldn't have shown even a shred of class in your post. Yep, you guys won 5 out of 6 against the Sox. Don't gloat too much - come back when the Cubs win something of some importance, like a World Series.
Let move on...Cubs fans enjoy their team everyday either up or down they still comming back..Sox fans on the other hand find their joy by either winning or bashing the Cubs when they're losing as of right now..Pleaseeeeeee grow up and tell your Sox manager too !!! Can you tell if Ozzie either a telling the truth or just kissing peoples ass ?
How about: "We'll miss you like you missed that pitch"? Nah! Too wordy.
ahem........Sox fans, you don't even have the collective intelligence to understand the roles of field managers and general managers. So why would you individually try minimalize the efforts and talents of Ozzie and Ken (that's Williams not Harrelson in case some of you think that Hawk is still running the show.)??? Just do what you do best. Show up when they are winning, stay away when they are losing. Keep looking for 'the board' to put something on when they are not hitting. Try to explain that the Sox are in the 'toughest' division despite the consistent lack of World Series entry's the last ten years(wow look at the cubs division....Cards, Astros, pretty soon you-know-who). Oh, and keep dreaming about the day Hawk and Wimpy will be reunited. Just stick to what you know..................nothing! Except how to follow the leader.........................................................................just like sheep, just like sheep.
To Stuckinwisconsin:
- It's not that we don't show up when they're losing, we don't show up when they put a crap team on the field. And you know what happens then? They get better players so that we'll show up again. You guys keep getting the same crap teams because you'll keep showing up, regardless of how bad the team is on the field. By the way, not showing up doesn't mean we love the Sox any less - but we demand to pay for a quality team.
- As far as the "toughest division" issue, you're the only one who has brought that up in this blog. We know they suck right now, and it doesn't matter what division they're in.
- As far as World Series entries in the last 10 years, the NL Central has had three (StL twice, Hou), and the AL Central has had three (Det, Sox, Cle). So the NL Central hasn't done any better. Yeah, and keep hoping for "you-know-who" - that'll be a waste of energy)
- How to follow the leader? Wow, that's the pot calling the kettle black! You people keep showing up and paying to watch crap teams, you criticize us for not doing the same, and we're following the leader? Take a look in the mirror, pal - that's who's following the leader.
My point is, you want to root for your team? Go right ahead, you're entitled to it. Same as us - so why do we get criticized for it. Why can't you just be happy enjoying your "championship caliber" team? Why isn't that good enough for you? Sad.
aint that something--a cub fan calling calling somebody else sheep
Thy gone, sure, but the Cubs be gone soon too. Who are these pranks trying to kid? They take three games fron the White Suckers, but look how many runs they scored. This means that the real test is still ahead for the Never Grow. And then, look at the standings and tell me how significant is the difference between one team and the other. I bet ya that by the time the Sox bounce back the Cubs will be hanging from a cliff again, as usual. And I will be smiling from corner to corner and cheering for Steve Bartman, Sammy Sosa and AJ.

Stuck in Wisconsin:
You're email validates everything that White Sox fans hate in Cubs fans. It is smug, misinformed, and devoid of any insightful or even witty remarks. You characterize Sox fans in such a way that lets the readers know that YOU are in fact the one that knows nothing, not us. And I am not sure what the reference to following sheep was all about too. But I'll let that one slide.
To all readers:
I swore I was officially retired from engaging in any Sox-Cubs banter after winning in 2005. But I'll leave you with this. The world seems like it's ending on the southside and there remains a VERY realistic chance we finish around .500 on the year. The Cubs on the other hand play amidst a playoff buzz and championship dreams and they're still 3 games under .500. Bear in mind that this is also on the heels of a 4 game winning streak. Now which side of town is fooling themselves? Sox fans seem resigned to our fate and are not kidding ourselves one bit. Cubs fans seem destined for another self-inflicted disappointment.
I hate how this topic of the bad season the Sox are having somehow morphs into a Cubs-Sox issue. Normally, a Cubs failure makes a Sox success a little bit better for me. But in this case, as I am so disappointed in the 2007 season, I doubt I'll feel much better when the Cubs finish with a worse record than the Sox on the year.
Ken, my post was a short-sided blast of air for short-sided whitesox fans. You obviously are fair-minded, and well rounded to keep your anger to a minimum. So, to that I say: Kudos. Best of luck to you and yours.
Stuck you are losing your touch. Man you used to have at least 4 people coming after you! You seem to be mellowing out. I agree, Ben's post has a Mattlock feel to it. I liked Tunney's post also.
Ok, we need a positive White Sox blog Roman........I am done whining, and with the possible extension for Burhle, I think us Sox fans have reason to think positive(mainly because of the starting pitching, and Nick Masset)......so now it's time to turn that frown upside down! WOOOOOOO.....
Hopefully - THEY BACK! I'm with Bryant, time to throw some love to my boys. 3 games feels sooooo goood! I made a friendly (Mortimer & Randolph Duke) wager with a co-worker of mine during the crosstown classic and now I have a Cubs hat on my monitor! I am looking at it right now! A strange thing happened; the Sox fortunes changed, and it stays until the Sox lose! Not superstitious, but why mess with it.
4 in a row!...cmon Sox!....STRETCH!
to the cubs fan, you guys do suck and always will, we are tanking now, but better earlier than wait to the last minute and do it. I am a die hard White Sox fan win or lose, common sense it's harder to accept a loss apparently sucky cubs fans have been losing for so long they take whatever they can get. Win more than a few games especially more than a cross-town classic. Cubs fans go to games to drink, Sox fans actually go to enjoy America's Favorite pastime. PS.....Try and keep a manager for more than one season and then you guys can talk
I made a comment to Stuck in Wisconsin about how his post was exactly the type of thing Sox fans hate in Cubs fans. And then I see the post from George which is just as bad. I imagine his post represents what good Cubs fans do not like about us Sox fans. By the way, I have always found it unecessary to clain I am a diehard Sox fan. You can always tell from what somebody writes how knowledgeable or how good of a fan they really are. Even though I am a fellow Sox fan, I get tired of seeing Sox fans rip the Cubs fans in such predictable ways. We've heard it all before about how Cubs fans go to Wrigley to drink and how we go to see winning baseball. But you know what, there are a lot of drunk idiots roaming US Cellular on game day as well. It's not fair for us (Sox fans) to diminish what it means for the Cubs to have dominated us in 2007, which they did. They won 5 of 6 games and believe me, if we did that to them, we would be reminding every one of them how much better a team we are. I am by no means drinking Cubs Kool-Aid though. I simply prefer to sit back and bide my time as the Cubs season unravels. Right now on the heels of a winning streak and impressive stretch of play is not the time for Sox fans to be picking fights with Cubs fans. Let's wait a few weeks until something unfortunate happens, and it always does, before giving them a hard time.
I hereya Sean. All of this bickering and bragging is a monumental waste of energy. Its like the ignorance of gang violence; Noisy, Unnecessary and unprofitable. Only time its fun is when there is a crosstown classic, and it should be congruent with the performance of the TEAMS. Cubs should be cool because the Sox have gotten in that fanny for years. Celebrate your success, but within reason. Sox should be cool because when you are consistantly one of the best teams in the American league - your goals should be to win the division or a championship - and not the crosstown classic which is only good for braggin rights in the city.
