Give me your 4 most disappointing players on both ends of town
I'm putting together a list for Sunday's paper. My four most disappointing players are: 1. Zambrano. 2. MacDougal. 3. Eyre. 4. Konerko. Dishonorable mention: Soriano, Pods, Barrett. What do you think? I can be convinced to change before it goes in the paper.

Comments
MacDougal is first (single most horrific performance in Chicago).
Sox entire line-up (without an excuse 1-9).
Soriano (is paid too much and must be added).
Zambran (but I dont' blame him because he is not getting paid fair market value - and shouldn't have to play under that pressure)

Why limit it to the players?
Where's Hendry for (in Steve Stone's words) getting 5 7-irons out of your 14 golf club limit?
Where's Kenny Williams for essentially throwing in the towel before the year started by ignoring CF, LF, SS and trading for pitchers that "Don Cooper can do wonders with".

No doubt Konerko should be there. If he were ever to swing level, I think I'd pass out. For the two spot though, I think I'm gonna have to go with Jermaine. Not swinging for the fences every time up like Paulie, but he is not making good contact at all, unacceptable for the teams marquee player the last few years. Mac Dougal has been average at best, so I'm not sure he should be in consideration for the top two spots. I would like to know however, why a professional pitcher can't throw a damn strike!

If its anyone who puts a uniform on Roman then sign up Sweet Lou too.
It is hard to pick just four. I would add Dempster to your list. Kieth is spot on with his second suggestion however, if it were the Cubs I would change it to: (without excuse 10-12) Lou seems more fickle than Ozzy.
I don't know much about the personal efforts of the Soxs but I would trade their record for the Cubs' in a second. I am sure some Sox belong on the list, but you would have no problem filling it with Cubs.
There is still time to turn this around. It looks like some moves have to be made on both sides of town before it does maybe there can be a cross-town trade. Any ideas?
GO CUBS

Barrett replaces Zambrano in your list--poor baserunning, no hitting, and what he always has had: poor defense and terrible game-calling. Big Z has turned the corner and a win Friday means he needs to be off your list.
Roman responds: And exactly what corner has Big Z turned? Braves just jumped out 4-1. Took a decent throw by Soriano to stop it from being 5-1. Then Barrett drops a passed ball and throws it away to let it be 5-1. Unbelievable. That guy is the worst catcher I've ever seen.

Jacque Jones. Plays pepper with the right side of the infield.
Alfonso Soriano. Too much defensive swinging.
MacDougal. Ex-Royal. Probably never pitched in a clutch situation.
Aarsdma. Once traded for LaTroy Hawkins. AAA filler.

Add Barrett
7-1 Braves. Cubs got booed off after top half of 5th

A house divided falls.
Melee in the dug out between innings.
Zambrano vs. Barrett!
Call Dana White!
Embarrassing.

The Cubs need to stop the bleeding! Jim Hendry, save the 2007 season by packaging Jacque Jones, Matt Murton, Michael Barrett and Carlos Zambrano for one slugging, strong armed corner outfielder and one reliable starting pitcher. Bring up Felix Pie and leave him in center field.

Zambrano is and has always been a wacko....other teams have played off of it....and used it to their advantage. He simply has to go...you do not humiliate your team mates in public under no circumstances. I have been a cubs fan since the mid 1960s.....if Carlos, who is the latin version of "curly" from the three stooges...does not get traded....I`m done with the Cubs....he has no class.....Soriano and D. Lee suck as well....they have no leadership skills and show no emotion.....Isturis....sucks as well! Its not Lou......its time for the millionaire Flubs to look in the mirror and ask the question......."what can I do to make thsi team win?" Knowing the arrogance of todays player.....the answer is...."its not me".
totally disgusted Cubs fan......

4 most disappointing players on Chicago baseball teams ? Both teams are way underachieving so its hard to pick 4 out of such a lousy group of players.1= Konerko..supposed team leader of sox gets paid big bucks for a Mendoza like average.2= Scott Eyre of cubs has opponents fighting over bat rack when he comes in with his gas can stuff.3= Iguchi ..plays defense with alligator arms & just above Mendoza line average wise. 4= Zambrano..this was suppose to be his year to be Cy Young material & he now looks like Golden Gloves material.....unhonorable mentions= Barrett can't field, dumb on bases, poor average & not a very good puncher either!Dye & Crede both still struggling in low .200s. MacDougal = right handed version of cubs Scott Eyre. Jacque Jones =poor defense & a weak bat. Soriano = ..big big bucks & hasn't done anything to show he's worth it..Should have a blog on what 4 are best players in Chi in 07 ???..but its hard to find 4 who are having standout year..Derrick Lee,Derrick Lee,Derrick Lee & Derrick Lee..lol.. the rest pretty much under achievers..

Derek Lee can go to as many all star games as he wants, but he will always be viewed as some one who hasn't lived up to his potential(even with the numbers he puts up)until he can start showing some positive leadership-obviously his alleged 'meeting' was not taken seriously-is he respected by his teammates??? Michael Barret has gone backwards in his defensive skills. There are always fights on a team that Ted Lily is on. Zambrano is clearly not a #1 pitcher- another leadership issue.
I don't know much about the Sox, so unlike Sox fans always wanting to tell us what is wrong with the Cubs, I will keep it zipped.
One Sure thing is the CUBS NEED STRUCTURE. I was very against Joe Girardi as the cubs manager....but it appears as if he would be perfect now.

Jeez Roman, that's an extremely hard question to answer. It's like asking us to name the four most corrupt members of Congress. I'll give it try anyway:
1st & Worst:-Has to be a tie based upon the hype & previous track records. Alfonso "Where's the Plate" Soriano & Carlos "Cy Young" Zambrano.
2nd: Paul "You can put it on the Board" Konerko.
3rd: Scott "Hangin' Slider" Eyre. 4th: Jermaine "Aim for the Concourse" Dye.
Posted by: tcards | June 2, 2007 10:15 AM
1. Alfonso Soriano. How can a player go down as quickly from one season to the next? Too much contract! 2. Paul Konerko, who has never exhibited "fire" or leadership skills. Why can't he just try to make good contact and stop bleacher swings? 3. Michael Barrett. He's going backwards and IS NOT a smart baseball player! 4. Carlos Zambrano - a definite head case, ego-maniac and poison to the Cubs.
Posted by: Don Hirth | June 2, 2007 11:54 AM
1. Cubs Bullpen staff: too many devastating meltdowns, period.
2. Soriano: should be igniting the entire line up by lighting up pitchers and become a legitimate stolen base threat, which he has not.
3. Lou for being not creative, not being a motivator, over using the intentional walk creating a game winning 66 yd field goal attempt situation for his already shaky timid bullpen.
4.

Roman, you can't mix the Sox & the Cubbies to come up with a worst 4 for the city. Instead make it worst 5 for both teams.
On the Sox:
1) Konerko. The money vs the lack of rbi's.
2) MacDougal. 2006 vs 2007.
3) Sisco. Total waste.
4) Thome. Can't stay healthy & come's back weak.
5) Dye. Did he forget how to hit a single?
Dishonorable mention: Ardsma (expectations were low though), Vazquez (not consistent enough to justify money)
On the Cubs:
1) Zambrano. 2006 vs 2007.
2) Soriano. No where close to 16 mil a yr production.
3) Howry. 5 mil for what?
4) Eyre. Why is he still with the Cubs?
5) Barrett. A lousy catcher who now can't hit much.
Dishonorable mention: Ramirez (where are the rbi's), Jones (strike 3!)
If it's too long for your article that cut it down to worse 3 for each team.

1.Alfonso Soriano Too much money too little production
2.Carlos Zambrano Still waiting for Mr Cy Young
3.The cast of left fielders that the Cubs use day in and day out
4.The pitchers in the set up role
Posted by: Anonymous | June 2, 2007 09:29 PM
D. Lee sucks. Wow. Roman, I'm surprised you let that one slide.
Posted by: Rick | June 3, 2007 04:42 AM
1- MacDougal--Send him down until he can find the plate
2- Aarsdma-- I was wondering why he was always 6 inches outside with every pitch. Now I see, after putting it in the strike zone and getting tagged I'd stay outside too
3- Joe Crede--This is one guy Aarsdma could probably strike out regularly. I've never seen Joe go after so many pitches off the plate as he has this year, with no contact.
4- Cooper. He's taken the praise, now it's time to earn it. He may have to be more of a shrink than a mechanic to fix this group, but it's best to find something quick.
I don't follow the Cubs closely enough to make any choices, however I am taking great joy and happiness in their level of play.

Number one would be the, "MILLION DOLLAR MAN", Alfonso Soriano;
Next in line we have Carlos Zambrano;
Third would be Jim Thome;
Last would be the whole CUBS pitching staff!!

Why set a limit? (I'll keep to the Sox, since I follow them much more than the Cubs)
Here's my list, based on my expectations and combined with this year's performance (or lack thereof):
1. Konerko
2. Dye
3. Crede
4. Macdougal
5. Aardsma
6. Sisco
7. Iguchi
8. Uribe
9. Greg Walker
10. Kenny Williams/Rick Hahn
11. Cintron
12. Anderson
13. Mackowiak
14. Pods (for getting hurt...again)
15. Contreras
16. Cooper
17. Thome (for getting hurt...again)
18. Ozuna
That's a pretty healthy list right there of players/coaches/GMs for the Sox that have had a mediocre to terrible year so far. It's frankly unbelievable that our record isn't worse than it is right now. I mean, on the off chance that the above can pick it up (a HUGE task at this point), then we may actually have a shot. I say we owe the mear chance to compete at this point to the starting pitching. I say we send down MacDougal and Aardsma today, and bring up Prinz and Vasquez...they can't be any worse than M and A.
And I hate to say it, but maybe it's time to fire Walker. Not that I think he's a bad hitting coach or that it's his fault, but we need to do something to light a fire under these players behinds. Maybe a new coach will come in with some new ideas??? This is a talented group, and they are HORRIBLE right now. They have the lowest average by 15 points in the AL!!! U-G-L-Y!!!

I don't watch much Sox baseball, so I'll just chime in on the cubs disappointments:
1 and 2.Whatever reliever comes in after 6-7 innings of effective starting pitching. The overpriced twosome Eyre and Howry come to mind most.
3.Carlos Zambrano- What is wrong with Big Z? We are finding out that the same raw emotion that multiplies Carlos' effectiveness when he is on his game has the same multiplier effect when he is slumping.
4. Micheal Barrett- I could look the other way on his lackluster job behind the plate because of his bat. But when that goes, what else is left?
Posted by: CubFanInNM | June 3, 2007 06:29 PM
The Chi-Sux
1) Positon Players 1-9 for swinging like a softball team. Thome in particular looks like his best years are long gone and is a $14 mil waste.
2) The bullpen- Those power arms couldn't hit their butt with both hands.
3) Ozzie for running a country club instead of a spring training camp. The team was completely unprepared to start the season.
4) Kenny W. for failing to address the outfield situation and bringing in more relievers who don't throw strikes.
Cubbies
1) Eyre and Howry- What happened to these guys?
2) Soriano that big contract looks like money wasted so far.
3) Zambrano-Try the towell drill to fix those bad mechanics. On the positive side I hope he beat some sense into Barrett.
4) Hendry is the worst GM ever. Way to mismanage a team and assemble some of the worst teams ever in Chicago.

My four most disappointing is JAVIER VAZQUEZ(Only can pitch five innings)PAUL KONERKO(Good guy but a waste of money, should have kept Frank)JOSE URIBE(How is he a major league shortstop?)THE SOX BULLPEN(They couldnt hold a high school team scoreless)
