Pie's time is now?

| | Comments (16)

So what do the Cubs do when Alfonso Soriano comes back, move Pie to right and bench Jacque Jones?

Let's not get carried away with one game, but Jones' critics will argue they'd rather nurture blind faith than watch Jones play.

Jacque Jones has been done since his last couple of seasons in Minnesota. He put up OK numbers in the later half of last year but that was only when the Cubs were pretty much out of the race. Pie may or may not be the future, but he's shown more in the last two games then what Jones has shown up till now. Bench Jones, and while you're at it, get Will Ohman out of there too!

Jones must be benched, traded or cut. Pie showed more promise in one game than Jones has showed in the last year. I'm so tired of seeing him strike-out with a man on 3rd and no outs and then stroll back to the bench with his ho-hum look. He badly mis-played 2 fly balls that cost the cubs 2 runs. He is a liability on D, Murton is playing right because Jones can't throw. Normally you want a lefty playing right to make the throw to third but Jones sucks and needs to be shown the door. I hope that Hendry realizes his error in signing him in the first place and lets him walk or trade him for help in the bullpen, Ohman sucks and Eyre looks terrible. When Soriano comes back move Pie to right and continue the platoon in left with Murton and Floyd. Soriano and Pie at the top of that lineup looks alot better than a lineup with Jones.

Pie has all the tools to be a great ballplayer. Jacque Jones should be dealt for some pitching .Jones is a liability on defense for certain & his offensive numbers speak for themselves. Like above bloggers touch on his numbers on paper not bad in 06 ,but after pressure was off. Jones is horrible in the clutch with only one r.b.i. so far in 14 games!Jacque hasn't been that good for sure but beyond that some bigoted fans don't need to use racism either when getting on Jones as reported. On Pie love to see him everyday along with Soriano when he returns.

I don't quite understand the negativity on Jones. He's had some problems, but even D. Lee strikes out with men in scoring position sometimes, as does Ramirez. Why pick on just Jones? I agree that Ohman should go- anywhere. I don't know how he managed such a low earned run average last year. what did he do,allow other pitchers' runners to score but not his own?

I would go with the hot guy every time if I were Lou. Someone has to be traded for pitching. I suppose it could be Jones. He has never impressed me although I have always had high hopes for him. I would wait until June 1st or so before making a move. See what happens, see who gets injured on the other teams, maybe someone will need a speedy outfielder by June and the Cubs can get a good deal on a pitcher. On the other hand Jones might get hot. Either way, the Cubbies need pitching.

If you can't win when you score 6 runs how are you going to win on those days when the wind is blowing in and you only score 1 or 2?

Pitching! A championship calibre team has to have at least 3 good starters right?

GO CUBS!

P.S. Grats to all you Sox fans! I even tuned the ole mlb.com to the game. I didn't even know they carried Sox games ;P

Psst, we need pitching, so lets trade Felix Pie for someone like Carl Pavano or Bryan McCarthy. Yes, I've heard about the Lou Brock fiasco, but with an extra arm, if our injured pitchers regain their health, Zambrano will take us there.

"If 'ifs' and 'ands' were pots and pans,
the world would be a kitchen."

Don't think you have much choice but to keep Pie on the field and bench Jones... Pie is your best defensive fielder, period.

Soriano isn't going anywhere, Murton/Floyd platoon is working, so Jones is odd man out... maybe he can take Oh-man with him too!

and Juan, you mentioned "if our injured pitchers regain there health"... I hope you're not referring to.. forget it I don't want to mention there names anymore.

From SI.com: “Chicago has been selected as the U.S. bidder to host the 2016 Olympics. Well, sure, the city will absolutely pack the stands for amateur athletics. Just look at the Cubs.”

Trade Jones because he is a pretty bad player and he is 32 years old. Maybe Pie will be good or maybe he will be a bust. I am not ready to put him in the hall of fame like some Cubs fans are, but then again that's typical for Cubs fans. But Pie is only 21 years old, so maybe the Cubs should try a novel idea like developing a young position player instead of always signing some free agent in his 30's who does okay for a year then fizzles out. Same with Murton, he's only 25 years old and showed some potential last year by hitting .290 so stick with him for a while.

15 games into the season, and we're trading J. Jones, and dumping Will Ohman. Seems to me the offense has been lacking because the 136 Million dollar man isn't hitting as we expected. He was suppposed to be the catalyst, was he not. Should we try to dump him after 15 games? Course he is injured now, and they still have managed to score a few runs, but he was hired to put zest in the lineup. Pie should go back to AAA, and build his confidence as a hitter. HE'S 21 YEARS OLD. How many 21 year olds do you see starting, and playing well in the majors. I think the memory of what happened with Patterson is a prime example of what happens when you rush these kids. Should he stay, he has to play center. He's a natural at that position, and it would be foolish to move him to an off field, just to placate Soriano. For what he's paid, he needs to worry about his hitting, not what position he's playing. I still think we should stick big Z in the outfield for a few games, might make him appreciate pitching a little more.
How bout that Rich Hill??

Pie has clearly watched a lot of Sammy Sosa. He looks exactly like a left-handed version of Sammy Sosa. He does just about everything Sammy does. Except hit of course.

With the Cards in this weekend and the Brew crew to follow, and then the Cards again, the next nine games can come close to making or breaking the season. How about trying for a ten game winning streak for the first time since when? !902? I still think you guys are a little tough on Jones. Lefty power guys are not all that common, although we maybe do have more than our share with Floyd, Ward, and Jones.

Did the Cubs seriously overpay for Soriano?

Yeah, he(Soriano) made the same innocent mistake Nomar made. When he was in the team assignment line, and they said "your a Cub", he thought they said "your at a club" and said "I think I'll stop here and take it easy for a while". Cub Med: "the best beaches in the midwest"(but thats only for 23 days in July and August-and IF the medical waste tide is low).

Hey!! I'm stuck in Wisconsin too,but the lake I live on is never polluted, well, almost never. Nice pun on "Cub Med." Depressing game yesterday.Pathetic when that line-up can't score more than one run.

OK, JONES IS AN ESTABLISHED COMMODITY. MATT MURTON IS NOT. WHY IS THERE NEVER A MENTION OF MURTON GETTING TRADED? WHAT HAS HE DONE? SHOULD HE EVEN PLATOON? SORIANO IN LEFT, PIE IN CENTER, JONES IN RIGHT. MURTON IN AAA OR TRADED BECAUSE HE HAS DONE PRETTY MUCH NOTHING. FLOYD, THE VETERAN, PICKS UP THE SLACK IN LEFT OR RIGHT. UNTIL THIS HAPPENS THERE WILL BE NO WINNING AT WRIGLEY!
