Bobby Jenks, Tim Floyd, Wade Miller and the Bears are on a roll

It's been a few days, and the Bears have managed to stay out of the news. Congrats.

Meanwhile, Bobby Jenks can't get anybody out, but the White Sox aren't worried http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/302959,CST-SPT-soxnt19.article.
At least he feels healthy. Are you worried, Sox fans?

Mark Prior feels good, too, and Kerry Wood's about to throw bullpen side sessions http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/302928,CST-SPT-cubnt19.article.
If that doesn't have Cubs fans thinking World Series, nothing will.

So maybe Tim Floyd can coach. I remember talking to him while he was with the Bulls, and he said how little he missed the recruiting aspect of the college game. But he never lost faith that he could coach. Seems like he's doing a pretty good job at USC, and Carolina better be wary. Didn't some blogger recently pick USC as the surprise team of the Final Four?

So Wade Miller looks to be the Cubs' fifth starter http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/303143,CST-SPT-cub19.article.
Seems like it due more to attrition than anything else. Cubs fans, still thinking late Oct.?

And congrats to Simeon. Some say it's the best team ever to come out of this area. Taylor Bell's crowd says '72 Thornridge. I say '71 East Chicago Washington. Yes, the Senators were from Indiana, but they're nearly as close to Chicago as T'ridge.

I think both Chicago Baseball Teams are good. There are a lot of reasons to feel good going into spring. If both can get off to good starts we will be in for a wild ride.

Bulls are in trouble. I love the Bulls, but they are not beating the teams they are supposed to destroy. Don't get me wrong, they will make the playoffs and get into the next round, but that will be the end. And for that, we have to be happy. Next year will be the year to make the big step and compete for a title. All Pax needs is 2 centers. They only need to give the Bulls 15pt 15rebouds and defend every game and the Bulls will never look back. Some will not like this, but Pax needs to give Mr. Skiles his walking papers. Skiles has brought us as far as he can. Skiles is a good coach, but not a blue chipper. Those blue chippers have respect of the officials and command respect of the players. This will also help us in free agency. Bulls should talk with Larry Brown or someone of his ilk.

I want the Bears in the news. SIGN SOMEBODY, FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!

The Cubs still have major ?'s as regards to their pitching. And their offense might not be as good as people think as they may be too reliant on the home run to score runs. As for the Slops, or I mean Sox, I just don't like the way that organization and its fans conduct themselves. There, I said it so lets ratchet up the Cubs-Sox hostility. But lets keep it clean. The Bulls could easily go out in the 1st round again because they still have no inside scoring. When they signed Ben Wallace I said at the time he is strictly just a role player(can you say Michael Cage) who is not going to improve the team much. And I was right!

I agree with Keith-Lifetime Southsider. None of us wanted to get rid of Doug Collins back in the day but it led to Phil Jackson. Look at the Clippers; Plenty of talent, not enough coaching. Skiles is a poor team to middle of the road team builder. Now its time for a mid to champ builder to take over!

I think you should have added a topic...At what point will the columnists and Cub beat writers discuss the steriod/HGH possiblilities with Mark Prior? How is it that the "can't miss kid" and perfect mechanics is now suddenly throwing in the mid 80's. I'm not saying you blatantly acuse him, but shouldn't someone ask the question? I wouldn't expect the "genuflector" but someone has to...right?

Bobby Jenks will be fine. Looked even worse last year and ended up 41 saves give or take a few.

Perhaps Floyd isn't really a good coach, but is in fact a solid recruiter??? That's why he can be relatively successful in college, and terrible in the NBA.

The Cubs are going nowhere this year. While they'll definitely be better than last year, they will not be going to the playoffs. Their pitching and defense looks too suspect to me to be a playoff team.

Sorry Darryl M., the bears are in cost cutting mode right now. Last year was their chance for us fans. Now I am in text cutting mode.

My father once told me that good managers eventually rise to the level of thier incompetence.Meaning that eventually they get a level above that which they can handle. Obviously that was Tim Floyd's case and now he is back at his level of excelence.
Being a former native of East Chicago I agree with you Roman about the '71 Senators.
The Bulls are missing one or two pieces of the puzzle but I'm not so sure getting rid of Skiles is part of the equation and I think Phil Jackson may have gotten a little more credit than he deserves. The two years he did not have MJ and the years after Shaq left LA tend to bear that out.

The Sox say they arent worried about Bobby Jenks.Good --He is either trying to become finess pitcher or he has lost 7-8 MPH on his fastball. He was most effective throwing a high 97-100 mph fast ball and an occasioal hard breaking ball. The woods are full of pitchers who are borderline that throw like he is now.He doesnt have a change up or control to pith like that.I hope he isnt hurt
or someone has told him to become a(pitcher) He should stay with what got him here.

i think jenks will be ok . i like the new pitchers . i think the whitesox will once again finish first in thier division and return to the worldseries .

Maybe it was because I was only 7 years old, but watching that '72 Thornridge team on TV in the tournament (I think it was on WGN back then) was awe-inspiring. I never saw East Chicago play.

Simeon? Well, as much as been written about Rose, Tim Flowers is no match for most downstate schools. You can tell he played football as a junior, just having him stand next to the O'Fallon center. But he's probably too short to play the power forward position at the next level and stack up against guys who are 6'8" to 6'10".

I think the 1985 Simeon team would have given the 2006 team a run for their money, if it wasn't for the tragic shooting of Ben Wilson. The Marcus Liberty-led King teams might have had more talent, but not enough court discipline.

to jeff--how do you mean you dont like the way Sox fans conduct themselves. Is it better than getting slobbering drunk and supporting a team that always loses. or was it the way the Sox fans celebrated with class when they won in 05

Tony J. stop with the insults and you will look like a classier act. This Cubs fans are all drunks routine is old and insulting. In a standard crowd of 35-38,000 some will drunk too much (as they will at ALL parks) What was probably meant was Sox fans worry way too much about the Cubs and not enough about their own team. Cub fans worry more about whast ther Cardinals are doing. Seems to be more Sox fans 'talking' since they won in 05.

Hello from Aloha Oregon in the great north west. Im a import from the chicago area since 1979. A sox fan forever and a black sheep in my family . They are cubs fans. Oh well. Its hard to get to see games here because of the seattle Mariners. Just wanted to say SOX will be in world series. cubs last place. Sorry. Also the Bears will be awsome next year. Their are thousands of BEARS fans here.WE even have our own sports bar. Finaly GO SOX GO BEARS ALL THE WAY.

To Sox fans, I am only half kidding when I get down on Sox fans. It's just that the season is less than two weeks away and I am not seeing enough fire and brimstone from either Cubs or Sox fans. And all I'm doing is trying to get some of that fire out in the open. BTW, I don't think either team will make the postseason because of lack of pitching.

Adam Archuleta...

...hm.

Well, at least they only gave up a sixth-round pick.

Why don't we have our own Bears bar here in Wisconsin? Oh-wait, we do. They call it 'the alley out back'("turn left at the BUBBLER past the SODA machine, maybe you can sit on that old DAVENPORT by the dumpster".) Man, I just want a good hot dog, I can listen to the game on the radio.

COACH ROBINSON WAS A GOOD MAN AND COACH. I"AM WHITE AND
FROM THE SOUTH. I ENJOYED WATCHING HIM COACH AND THE INTERVIEW
HE HAD WITH COACH BEAR BRYANT. WE HAVE LOST SOMETHING
IN SPORTS. AN ERA IS CHANGING. COACHES DON'T STAY AROUND LONG
ANYMORE. I FEEL THAT SPORTS IS CHANGING AND SO ARE
THE PEOPLE WHO PLAY. COACHES LIKE COACH ROBINSON, NEED TO
BE WRITTEN ABOUT.
