It's 4:30 and i got the wings in the oven, beer on ice, my old A-Train jersey on the dog.I keep looking at the clock and man does it seem like eternity till kickoff.Pizza will be here at 6:30 and I think i forgot to add extra sausage but who cares I'm ready for gametime but man it's taking FOREVER.Already I'm sick of the 5 hour pre game show and all the colts favortism. All the chips and dips look great on the table,I did put out a nice spread if i do say so myself but why is the clock taking so long.My fan crazed mom has called me three times already and I think she is more impatient then I am(love ya mom). The tears from the PAYTON and Piccolo piece cbs did have dried and I sit here remembering the last time i watched my team play in the super bowl when i was 10 and i remember the anxiety is the same.GO BEARS AND BRING IT HOME BABY!!!!!

The Colts just went up by five with a field goal.
They've had the ball at least three times as long as the Bears have.
Who knows what the hell is going to occur in the next quarter and one half. I forgot what Rex Grossman's number is.
But really, the biggest disappointment, besides the Bear offense, is the pathetic camera work CBS is presenting to the world. High Definition, my ass. The Zapruder film had better definition. I realize it's pouring outside, but this is Miami! Pay somebody to hold a hair dryer in front of the damn lens.
Go Bears.

Roman responds: Now that was a funny line.

What the heck is smith thinking?!? I can't stand this so called quarterback Gross-man...he's ....well you know. I don't think that he has a chance next year. I think i'm going to be sick!!!

Roman responds: Careful! You're going to be lumped in with the "ignorant" media.

Wrecks Grossman strikes again

PRE TEND ERS!
CHICKEN TEND ERS!
THE SCORE SHOULD HAVE BEEN 80-14!

I said it all year. Rex will be the biggest mistake that Lovie makes in the playoffs. That great defense in Chicago can only carry the team so far and it showed in the most important game. I said they are overrated and overhyped, although they got further than I imagined and for that I say congratulations. Hey, at least, you have most of the defensive players returning next year and Rex will be the starter again...oops, sorry. That was for you Roman.
See Chicago...that's how you win a Superbowl!
Next year...be a little humble and not so obnoxious and maybe the football gods won't shove it back down your arrogant throats!

Suggested headline for Monday's edition:

Rex is Gross, man!

Let's make this clear. I will not be a Bear's fan if Rex Grossman lines up under center next year. He was absolutely pathetic and Ron Turner's game plan was just as bad. A tight end would also be a good pick up - dropping a ball on 4th and 9 is is not acceptable.

Two minute offense, the Chicago Bears apparently dont know what one is.Is anyone else wondering why the Chicago Bears with under 2 minutes to go didnt throw any side line passes to stop the clock? Why would you throw short passes up the middle? Maybe someday will get a real NFL quarterback. I guess it doesnt matter, they couldnt tackle, throw the ball, pass block, run block, defend the run,or defend the pass.Just another season being a Chicago Bears fan.

come in off the ledge!! it's just a game. How many years has it taken Manning to win this? It's Rex's first year starting every game. Let's at least wait another before we throw him under the bus. OH YEA, NICE GAME PLAN TURNER

O.K. It's over. Great season anyway. I know some people will say that Rex lost the game but that's not the case. Whole team effort. Peyton did what he had to do. His experience was very evident during this game. The loss of Benson set a back a great deal but those are just the cards that are dealt. My brother had a guy over who had his Manning jersey on and we gave him a load of crap about it. When the game was over I told him congratulation. I'm not gonna sulk or throw things and act like the world just ended. Since I am primarily a BEARS fan I guess I won't make my presence on this blog until after training camp so I'll bow out while the feeling is still upbeat. I can't even fathom the amount of finger pointing that's about to start but I won't do any of that myself. It was a great season that ended in a way I didn't want. I hope the fans still back this team because the experience is going to help them in the long run. We made it further than most expected. GO BEARS!!!!

I wrote b4 if bears didn't beat themselves they would win.Well evidence showed Da Bears certainly played like chumps . Rex played like a little punk that he is!Rex will never win a super bowl, period! He will never be in a class of QB's that truly know how to play smart & win the trophy. The Bears as a whole played sloppy & unprepared .Many miss tackles & coverage. Happy for Dungy he is a class guy & certainly deserving of title!Bears will need some tweaking in off season starting with getting a professional QB!Lovi Smith deserves a raise but probably cost himself some $ for not having team ready.

Turners game plan did suck. Grossman just doesn't have the tools to lead a superbowl team. It was painfully obvious all year, but we hoped against hope that the defense and special teams would bail us out again. With Hester opening things up with a touchdown, that was the intangible that we needed for victory. Our offensive game plan really sucked. Wait till next year...

Im not a huge Bear fan, but why did'nt Lovie change quarterbacks when it was clear Grossman was never going to get a clue? It seems to me that in the Superbowl a coach should make every effort to win. All I saw was same old Bears game plan. Which by the way was not working.
Of course Grossman should be canned!! No question about that. But Chicago should look close at some of those coaching decissions too. The Bears could have tried harder offensively to turn the game around. But, im sure any AFC team would be happy to face the Bears in the Superbowl next year. But the Bears will have to play much better then they showed this year to make it to the playoffs next year. Let alone the Superbowl.

GROSSMAN sucks and Lovie is an IDIOT for thinking that MORON could win in the NFL. I hope that was the last game GROSSMAN starts in a Bears uniform. That performance was embarassing.

unreal . . . when will this team get a stable, dependable QB ?????? . . . hopefully before doomsday.

This is one time I wish I had been wrong. All season I tried to shine a light on the reasons why we would not win the SB hoping someone would listen and take some type of corrective action. Too bad. The Bears had the most talent, the most luck and still under achieved. Way to go... not! To all of you that said mean things about me because I dared to criticize the Bears... I hope it hurts. I hope it hurts bad, forever. I feel no pain because I knew the reality many months before any of you. Enjoy the off season.

Roman, feel free to put your critical comments here like you have all season.

Roman responds: Glad to have you back.

Thoughts on the game:

- I will never, ever trust Grossman again. I will never trust Coach Smith until he plays another quarterback. I tried my best, against my better judgement, to believe that he is a professional quarterback, and he isn't.

- The Colts are a better team than the Bears. They have better run and pass blocking, more weapons on offense, and a more consistent defense - and obviously, a better quarterback.

- The Bears hung in there (even with Grossman's terrible play up until that point), and were moving the ball effectively in the fourth quarter, until Grossman threw the first pick. Again, a terrible decision on his part, but not unexpected.

- While the defense gave up a lot of yards, the offense (particularly Grossman) played terribly.

- The Benson injury hurt, but it wouldn't have changed the game if he had played. The Colts overplayed the run and Grossman fell into the trap.

Thoughts on next year:

- The Bears will have a MUCH harder schedule next year and it will take a tremendous effort and a lot of luck just to win the division again.

- The Bears need a serious upgrade on their offensive line, they were adequate, not great.

- The Bears, obviously, need a better quarterback.

- The Bears need a better strong safety.

Overall, a respectable season, but a huge wasted opportunity.

I am very disappointed but, lets be realistic. Grossman did ok for his 1st full season. He took us to the superbowl! give him some slack he is only going to get better. it took manning 9 yrs just to get to the superbowl. I know this loss hurts but the better team won today. Hopefuly we will be back next year and the out come will be more favorable.

My Dad is from the South Side of Chicago....Mt. Carmel.... Go Colts..Go Peyton..Go Saints..Katrina's Wrath!! This is no dry snow baby, this is RAIN!!!!!

this really sucked. First send Tank on his way. Go find a quarterback, as Grossman is a fraud.
I lost count of his fumbles and interceptions, of course, i can't count past four or five. I have to agree with other posters that the game plan lacked life, and, i think other teams should not be allowed to talk to super bowl coaches and staff until AFTER the superbowl. Final question, can the Bears afford Lovie next year and can Lovie afford to have Grossman on his team next year?
All in all, thanks for a wonderful season.

Hey, what happened? I thought the bears were going to be the next SB Champs.....I love a little poetic justice. That New Orleans boy went bear hunting tonight. Let me guess, it was the weather, right.....

No disrespect bears fans, but you were maybe the 8th best team we played all year. if you played in the afc, you would have finished 7-9 at best. devin hester is your offense, and thats all you have. i had colts -7 and was glad devin scored to give us a sense of urgency, and then we started playing...get excited all you want chicago, but trade for a qb first

Just two weeks ago Bears fans teased Saints fans for saying that the Bears didn't beat the Saints but, instead, that the Saints beat themselves. NOW, the Bears fans are chalking their Superbowl loss up to the same god. The Bears were NOT a team of destiny this year! Your turn was 20+ years ago! Stop being such sadsack fans!!!!

Hey Chi Town;

Being a Bronco fan and loosing 4 SuperBowls before winning 2 was really tough. It's so unfortunate that the team is so good and Grossman so over his head.

Rex has the skills but he's damaged goods. Remember Rick Ankiel. Brian Greise has the skills to bring it home with a team as awesome as the rest of the squad is.

Tough to see these opportunities slide by and it's really true. Nobody remembers who lost the Superbowl.

Kyle Orton 11-5, Grossman 13-3. So theoretically Rex is worth two wins more, but maybe the whole team improved and matured too. So if Orton played this year they have the same or better record. So maybe this team with just an above average QB could have been 16-0, as it truly is quite talented at every position except the starting QB. If the QB's switched teams, Indy probably would be 2-14 and the Bears would easily have been 16-0, and for the Bears to keep the Super Bowl as close as they did with Grossman really shows what a good team they have. The shame is that this could have been a magical year as the Bears lost very few players to injuries and had everything going their way except that they treated the QB like a teachers pet or coaches son, why is competition good at every other position but not QB. When San Fran had Montana they still brought in Young, is Rex another Joe Montana or maybe the coaches think he is a fragile China doll which if that is the case I don't think you can make it in the NFL. Maybe this will cost Lovie several million, but thems the breaks.

With a projected $26 million to spend under the cap the Bears are in good shape. They are very young on the defensive side of the ball and will have Tommie Harris and Mike Brown coming back.
They need to draft someone for the offense line because that is where they are the oldest.
They have the players to win it all but I want a real QB. Unless Grossman has a light go off in his head then he is not the one and he showed that tonight.

I would love to see the situation between the Eagles and McNabb got to the point that they let him go. He is from Chicago and really wanted to play here in the first place.

Too many beers so I am done.

Basically, the Bears were exposed for what they are, a team that has a quarterback who cannot be trusted to pass or handle a football with any consistency, a defense that is good, but somewhat over-rated because of an easy schedule this year, and an offense that is not capable of winning football games without both special team and defense scores. The Colts took the special team element out of the game after the Hester opening kickoff return, and the Bears offense could not take advantage of the better field position. The Colts dared the Bears offense to beat them, and clearly were correct. Manning avoided any major mistakes, and concentrated on maintaining control of the ball. With that, the Bears were doomed, and extraordinarily lucky that the score was not far more lopsided. Although, if Grossman has passed more, it might have been. I do not expect the Bears to get any farther next year than the first game of the playoffs, if that. The Colts gave the league a primer on how to take the Bears apart. I expect that Brett Favre was watching very closely.

THE BEARS FANS GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED. THE BEARS SUCK. AS I'VE HEARD IT SAID "GOD DON'T LIKE UGLY". WELL IT'S PAYBACK FOR THE WAY THE BEARS FANS TREATED THE PEOPLE OF NEW ORLEANS THAT WENT TO CHICAGO FOR THE NFC CHAMPIONSHOP GAME. ALSO FOR THE CRUDE SIGNS AND COMMENTS REGARDING KATRINA AND THE CITY. GO COLTS! GO SAITS!

Rex is a back up at best. If he was quarterbacking the Lions he would be 2-14, he is mechanically a wreck and makes no effort in the pocket to make extra time. If the D and special teams were not so good this year he would have got a another great draft pick. I would rather have gone 0-16 as a bears fan than be beaten in the Superbowl so badly, when we could have destoyed the Colts with some early offense. I am Sick

As long as Lovi continues to stick with Gross..man the Bears will come up short. Rex simply doesn't get it & continues to make the same bone headed mistakes.Yes you can say Bears got to Super Bowl with Rex at the helm. But Rex the hex couldn't finish the job . You can't win the Lombardi trophy in NFL without a solid QB.Rex certainly was main reason for loss but Bears not tackling or covering receivers hurt too. Rex is pretty much a rookie & but had played enough games to know what not to do. I doubt Rex will ever finish the job. Rex had a pretty easy child hood & probably never had to really work for anything.Another words, Rex lacks the gonads to be a winner! Colts certainly played sloppy themselves but made the plays that counted. Dungy who I believe is the class of the NFL & now has the trophy deservingly so.

hahahahahaha!! nice job lady's! go saints!!! go colts! go new orleans!

Game started beautifully. Then the offense didn't show up. Ron Turner has to go, what pitiful playcalling. Where was our defense, they should be ashamed, soft coverage will never get it done against a team like the Colts. WE were in it til the end but yet again the play calling wasn't there. I was surprised to not see Peterson plugged in after Cedric went down. They just didn't look prepared at all. Still love 'em but this game surely leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Tommie Harris' return will fix the defense, but you need a new quarterback.

The Bears lost because they were out-coached. Ron Turner is trash and will always be trash as an offensive coordinator. Grossman threw the ball 28 times and Thomas Jones had 15 carries. TJ should have seen 2/3 of the Bears plays. A defense does not magically go from worst against the run in the regular season to the Steel Curtain in the post-season. If you take the 52 yard run and the meaningless 12 yard run on the Bears' last possession out of the equation, TJ was averaging almost 4 yards a carry. Include those big runs and he averaged 7.5. Given that kind of production, why put the game in the hands of your head-case QB?

The horrible call to throw the ball at 2nd and 1 with the Bears down by 5 summed up the night.

The Bears could have won, even with the defense playing average. Sadly, the coaches lost this one.

It is not all Grossman. The defense is not who you thought they were! Take away Hester's lucky dream season and you barely get into the playoffs. A lot of holes to fill next year. May the fans show some class next year.

Don't be so hard on Rex. Of the four QBs the Colts faced, only Brady was better than Grossman. Compare Trent Green and McNair's games against us vs. Rex. Not so bad, huh? Rex is 3-5 years from reaching his potential, so leave him be.

The Chicago Bears suffered defeat against the Indianapolis Colts 29 to 17!! What the Bears accomplished against the New Orleans
Saints two weeks ago, the Indianapolis Colts performed on the Bears in spades yesterday. What was the problem, Hester started the game with a incredible run back for a touchdown, then the defense came out ready to play, and play they did, for only about
the 1'st Quarter, then downhill from there!! Why didn't we run the ball more, Mr.Turner, what was your alleged game plan, have
Rexy throw multiple interceptions, and fumble the wall?? This was a major let down, and I'm laying blame at the feet of Rex Grossman and the offensive coordinator, Ron Turner, we were only down by 5 and then the bomb fell!! Where was vicious future Hall of Famer, Middle LineBacker, Brian Urlacher, did he have a big meal before the game. It's like he's been getting slower and slower as the games progressed into the playoffs and then an extra weak performance for the big game on Sunday!!! The Bears didn't come to play yesterday, that's it, Peyton and the Colts wanted it more, plain and simple!! Grossman's performance was pitiful, and utterly benchable, next year, go with Griese no questions asked, give him the word today and let him start his own pre-pre-season and studying the playbooks and films of the defenses he'd be facing next season, no reason to NOT start preparing now, for a SuperBowl appearance repeat and this time a victory!!!

The morning post mortem:
Yes it is a sad morning and again we have say wait until next year; but it was a great run and actually next year might turn out the right way.
All you Rex haters, watch the game again. He put in a good performance, the picks weren't because of a dumb move. Sure it wasn't a stupendous performance; but he's basically just past his rookie year. Peyton Manning had a rough game but everyone just praises him.
So keep the faith and the Bears will finish next year.

Wow, what sweet revenge! Check out Chris Rose's editorial in the Times Picayune for verification of the widespread mistreatment of the Saints fans in Chicago. He couldn't have said it any better. "We", the entire state of LA, rooted against the Bears for the sheer fact that the fans didn't deserve to win. We popped open champagne at the finish. Not as much 'cause the Colts won but that the Bears lost. Man, did I sleep well last night! See you in Soldier Field next season.

First let me say Congratulations to The Colts and their fans. The Colts defense showed up for the game and I'm still wondering where the "Monsters" were yesterday because they weren't in Miami. After Hester returned the opening kick-off for a TD I had expected the D put the heat on Peyton Manning but it never happened. To all the Bears fans that are calling for Grossman's head be careful what you wish for after all is said and done the Bears still made it to the SB in just his first full year of play. The defense that deserved as much credit for getting there also desrves as much credit for the loss they played too conservatively. Also don't lose sight of the fact that it took Peyton Manning 9 years just to get to the SB and it took John Elway 5 times getting there before the Bronco's finally won and Fran Tarkington and Jim Kelly got there multiple times and never won and how many years was the Bears offense Payton right, Payton left, Payton up the middle, punt....before they made it there and won. I am dissapointed in the Bears loss but still greatful for the excitement they provided throughout the season. Congratulations Bears for one hell of an exciting season, use the experience you got this year and bring home next year!

Ask Turner or Lovie why they ran the ball over 64% of the time during the season and only 40% in the Super Bowl.

No, it's not because Benson was hurt. Jones has carried 25-30 times in the past. And the Bears were not that far behind until the end. Our defense was draggin' with the Colts on the field all the time. Let's ee, if I'm the coach do i put the ball in Grossman's hands or in Jones? What about all the pre-game talk about how the Bears would run no matter what. Sounded good to me, but I guess Turner was bluffing. Some bluff with Rex as your hole card.

Everybody is ready to dump Grossman, why? How many QB'S in thier 1st full year lead thier team to the superbowl ? He will get better thats a fact one area that could use some upgrading is the O line. The colts just played better. Better on offense, better on defense. They are the team that showed up on sunday. The bears did not have an answer for any of the colts plays. The part that sucks the most is now we will have to listen to all these "experts" who were right about the colts being the dominant team. I really thought the bears would give them a better game but, I guess they just are not that good. I hope we do not have to wait another 20 yrs to get back to the superbowl. Even though I am VERY DISAPPOINTED I want to thank the Bears for a fun season I enjoyed every minute of it. Lets hope for another great season in 07' GO BEARS

Brutal play calling by Ron Turner...brutal play by the Bears linebackers esp Urlacher and Hillenmeyer.

To All Bear Fans -

First, let me go on the record and say I was pulling for "DA BEARS", but when will Lovey Smith relize that Rex Grossman is not the answer. This guy is pathetic. It was a matter of time before you know this guy was going to have a play that was going to cost them.. Smarten up Lovey, you knew this gut didn't have from the get go. Your chances were much better with Griese at center. Is Lovey the new Grady Little ? Time to make the switch..

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN HOW TO RECEIVE THE SNAP FROM CENTER WITHOUT SCREWING IT UP? HOW MANY TIMES HAS WRECKS FUMBLED THE SNAP THIS YEAR? I COUNT AT LEAST 6 TIMES AND THAT'S WITHOUT INCLUDING HIM ALSO TRIPPING AND FALLING OVER HIS OWN FEET! WHAT AN ASS-CLOWN!! THE RUN DEFENSE ALSO SUCKED..BUT MAYBE THAT'S BECAUSE THEY SPENT MOST OF THE GAME ON THE FIELD. SO NEAR AND YET SO FAR. WHAT AND EMBARASSING AND PATHETIC PERFORMANCE..INCLUDING THE GENIUS COACHING JOB FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED,LOVIE AND THE WHOLE CREW (EXCEPT FOR SPECIAL TEAMS COACHES) CAN TAKE A HIKE... AND I DON'T MEAN IN PAY. GO CUBS!!
STREAMWOOD FRANK

Serves the Bears fans right!!! You were awful to the Saints fans when they visited your city so it serves you guys right!! I'm so happy you lost! ha ha ha

Go Peyton (a new orleanian)

Go Saints!!

Go crying home Bears!!!!!!!!

There was no poetic justice. God or whoever you believe in doesn't punish people because some idiots treated opposing fans like dirt. They were classless for the disrespect and you guys who jump on this blog to rub our nose in this team losing is just as classless. I have never went on anyone's blog and said what my team will do or gloat once my team had won. This is the CHICAGO Suntimes and I think it is mainly there for the HOMERS to congregate. I could have said whatever I wanted on this blog because it was meant for the most part to be shared among fans. I never went on any Indianapolis, New Orleans, Seattle or whoever the BEARS played this season to bother their fans. I know it's a game and my pride for my team stop at a certain door. So anyone who ventures on this blog now do so to only show what a classless ignorant bunch that you are. Maybe it wasn't even your team that won. And if it wasn't you are a bigger loser than anyone can say we are. There was no death,no flood or mass remnants of a natural disaster that occurred last night. A footbal team lost a game. Anyone who acts like anything ,but ,happened need to get off the serious bus and take a good long hard look at themselves. I didn't need a Super bowl win to validate my life. Some of you do any I feel sorry for the people who have to live with you. Smile and move on. I didn't lose anything last night. GO BEARS!!!

What happened yesterday should come as no surprise to anyone that has been paying attention to HOW both teams arrived at playing in the Super Bowl.
The Colts had a tough season and playoff series in a much more challenging AFC (remember the Bears lost to New England?). The Bears had an easier ride in the NFC inspite of their problems at QB and offense..not to mention that they almost lost to Seattle in the playoffs a team so banged up with injuries. Oh, ask yourself a question..what would have happened at Soldier Field against New Orleans if the weather would have been the same as it was for the Seattle game? In my opinion, a different game and outcome entirely even if Tommie Harris and Mike Brown were healthy and playing.
Disagree if you want.
Face Facts:
Colts learned from their mistakes..they had to or else Baltimore or New England would have been in the Super Bowl instead.
The Bears on the otherhand continue to believe that their defence and special teams can carry their team to victory without regard to building a strong offense. Why???
Tony Dungy and Peyton Manning were like leaders of an army going into battle armed with multiple weapons anticipating the enemies every move, seeing the weaknesses and capitalizing on them.
The Bears just aren't as sophisticated as that and why should they be if Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo either can't or won't treat their game plan that way. What a waste of time for the real talent on the Bears team.

The reality is the Bears were overrated in 2001, 2005, and as well this year except this years team was the best of the three which isn't saying much when you take a hard look at the entire season and league.

Just one more thing...

before Lovie Smith and company continue to say next year is right around the corner implying that they will win the Super Bowl next year...he and his players should take pause and remember how many times the Bills made it to the final game and lost for whatever reason and instead look at consistent winning championship quality teams and do what they do for a change and see if being strong on both sides of the ball like the 1985 Bears were won't bring the trophy home to Chicago.

I predicted that the bears would get into the superbowl this year, and I predict that they will again next year. Go Bears! And, this is from a fan of Toledo, Ohio. A fan for a very long time and always will.

I've been a Bears fan since I was a teen (long time ago) and they are the best in my book. I cheered like mad in 1985 and I cheered like mad last Sunday; Lovie and the team will repeat next year and they will win it all.......

Mom of an ex-football player

Come on Frank Lee, I know you drink a special Kool-aide but it sounds silly to fire all the coaches but Toub. If he is a family member I can understand you backing him. As far as that goes Don't tell me that he earned keeping his job coaching Devin Hester. Toub has not deserved his job anymore than anyone else and singling him out only show that so many of us don't know what we are talking about. Hester's talent really can't be coached. You act like he deserved to be named Head coach somewhere because Devin Hester is so good. When you guys praise so many you point fingers and accuse others when it is a team sport. All year you backed everyone and now you want to back one guy. Maybe I gave some of you guys too much credit for having a level head. Saying keep the Special Teams coach and getting rid of everyone else is _______ as ______!! GO BEARS!!!!

Ron Turner...what did he do at Illinois... nada I guess that year the bears played at U of I really payed of for him, he was able to BS his way into the NFL. With the way the NFL is today, its hard for a great team to repeat let alone a with no QB no offenese and a offensive coach that couldnt go anywhere on a college level. This is what you get when you bargin shop an a coach level. I hate to say this ...but I think Chicago had its chance.

Why are you paying a salary to an individual as quarterback, who has experience, is a winner and yet, warms the bench?? The Bears selection of who plays when looks alot like the Stroger hiring plan! BOTH organizations are looooooosers.

Hey Bears Fans, just aline to say, after watching the game again,It really was a Good game. Both defence played hard, some Great hits.In the Weather that the Game was played,it was still a Great Game to Watch.Of some of the Games played this year, you should be Proud of your Team, they left it all on the Field. You can't blame the Quaterback for the Defence of the Colts.
As I said, watch the Game again and you'll see what I mean.
