Thanks to Tony Romo, here comes Seattle. The Bears should be headed to NFC title game, but look out for the Eagles.

I said in the earlier blog that i prefer the seattle matchup more and after watching them luck out against the cowboys my belief was confirmed. If we can't beat this soft ass team the bears should take a hard, deep look at the personnel they have and make major changes.Especially after we beat carolina last year only to have them come in and outhustle us in our house last year in the playoffs. We can't take this game lightly even though we should win just on that lesson last year alone. Our rb's should have a field day against that d-line they have and if rex can't take advantage of that make-shift secondary they have i say get rid of him.No #1 seed hasn't lost the first playoff game in the nfc in over 15 years and doubt Lovie wants that on his resume.Saying that go bears and lets get ready to beat down some hawk ass!!! P.S. Roman i would be more worried about the Saints then the Eagles if i were you.
The Bears should beat Seattle easily. The Seahawks were lucky to beat the Cowboys, at home, after Dallas lost 4 of their last 5 games. Don't want to look too far ahead but the Eagles didn't impress me either, beating a Giant's team on a last second field goal. The Giants played their usual game, lots of penalties and questionable play calling when they had first and goal. Let's get the Seahawks out of the way first and see which team rises up next weekend in The Big Easy.
By the way ,has anybody noticed that DA BULLS are only 1 1/2 games from having the best record in the east and are improving game to game.It will be nice to have the bears and the bulls with the best records in there respecting conference no matter how week people think they are.Man its a great time to be a chicago sports fan.
Thank Tony Romo for the gift of allowing you to advance to the NFC championship. If the Bears can't beat Seattle, then they are the most overrated team in NFL history. I think you all know how lucky you are not having to face the Cowboys-they outplayed Seattle in that game, except when it counted the most. Their season is over so I will watch the playoffs only to watch the Bears lose. God help you if you lose to Seattle. Romo choked and gave the Bears an easy win into the championship...unless they also choke.
As I was saying about the Seahawks:somewhere there is a dead cat who ran out of lives. How can a team lose because the holder failed to place the ball down to secure a FG? I know it knocked a team out of the playoffs but I never expected it to happen, now. As much as I can't stand Dallas I very much expected them to come here next weekend. Seattle has no running game to really take advantage of anything that will happen in Chicago. Who cares that they have 4 wideouts when the QB can't throw to any of them. The Seahawks are a step above the Giants and they couldn't put Philly away when it was early enough. The Hawks have a patch work D and they are gonna come a long way just to go home angry. I needed this weekend to see for myself who would play like champions. No one in the NFC did,I can tell you. With bad field position early the Eagles were D.O.A.. Once Manning missed a guy by 2 yards his light went off and never came on again. They didn't do anything to stop him. He just.... died. No life-no heart. It was like he didn't want to be there. Tiki kept him close and Shockey bulled his way a few times when he wasn't limping like DR. House. They had Philly reeling early and let them off the hook. Garcia was looking like he didn't want to be there and then Westbrook started running with that authority I was talking about and then Garcia's light went on. I don't think that Philly will get past N.O..Saints won't let them off the hook so soon. The Saint's coach will do his homework because he came from that division and that will be all she wrote. We'll see the Saints and then whatever happens was suppose to happen. Has Garcia ever beat the BEARS? They seem to give him fits with all that speed they have. I'm not cocky about our chances, just confident. I'm sure you will see a very good game with the BEARS next weekend. GO BEARS!!!
I must be watching a different team. I see someone in the media say "the Bears clearly remain the best team left in the NFC". HUH? Their QB is the worst among the remaining teams and the D is getting worse. Philly is playing the best and the Saints with Brees are at least equal to the Bears.
With the way Seatle was moving the ball I think it's possible they would have come back to win the game with a field goal of their own...Seatle could have beaten them outright.
What Eagles team are people watching that has them on everyone's radar as a threat? Do you get the same talking points the folks on ESPN get? The Giants have been awful the past 8 weeks, which includes the game they played against the Bears.
The Bears have had an easy schedule. I don't think anyone is rating them that well so it's impossible for them to be overrated. If they go on to win the super bowl they could be the most UNDERrated team this year having the best record in the conference by three games and continually put behind Dallas, N.O., and now the Eagles on the totem pole...
I'm excited to have their whole defense on the field again (less Brown+Harris, which, as it turns out is an enormous subtraction). Tillman and Vasher have not played opposite each other in awhile...
Of course, none of this matters if Grossman throws three INTs and fumbles the ball...I'm optimistic though...
I am glad I'm not a cowboy fan. The excuses and hubris coming from their fans trying to explain another underachieving team is actually quite funny. And the BEARS are overated? Whats the color of the sky in your world Mr. Barranco?
Seattle is not a very good team right now. It would take a catastrophic collapse by the home team for them to advance. So it is possible, but even in the unlikely event the BEARS lose I won't whine about it.
I said it before and I'll say it again, the only team that can beat the BEARS is the BEARS. It doesn't matter to me who we play. It is time to set our team on fire. Time to get this team angry like a grizzly with an abcessed tooth. I hope the fans get behind Rex from the outset. Punish the body, destroy the will. Go BEARS!

One out of 5 people seem to stick to the subject on these blogs, so I'm going to do that too...!!!
The Bears should trade Tank Johnson, Thomas Jones, Kyle Orton and a first round draft pick to the Raiders for the rights to Brady Quinn or Jamarcus Russell...Blog Me Baby!!
Every team in the NFC is beatable, even if it means beating themselves. Seattle's tougher than the Giants, so it should be a close one, unless Rex brings his "A" game.
The Eagles are still a threat--Brian Westbrook is hungry, and Jeff Garcia (despite having an off game yesterday, due mostly to the emphasis on the run) still has something to prove. The Eagles' D manhandled the Giants for most of that game; even without Lito Sheppard, the Saints might have their hands full next week.
Bear Fan,that would be starting over again and taking chances with another green QB. You'd be waiting until 2008 to see any results. We need a push up the middle to get to the QB and Johnson is still good at that. We need Orton just in case there is an injury or in case Rex doesn't respond or sign after next year. Jones is still valuable until Benson shows to be exceptional. He can't just be a running back he has to learn to catch out the back field. We couldn't get much for a back who will be 29. Throwing in all those other players is a bit much. Anyway, why have all this depth and give it away for someone who may be another question mark. You have to be ready for the 16 game season. That also means that anyone could be hurt or Harris could have a setback with his rehab. Some of you may not like Tank but he is still a solid player who will show you that next Sunday.
Dont forget that even if the cowboys kick that field goal then the Seahawks get the ball with 1:00 left down by 2. This year Hasselback has come back 4 times with less than a minute to have Josh Brown kick the winning field goal. It is entirely possible the Seahawks win that game at home with or without the botched snap.
Rex can bring his A Game, B Game, C game. Don't matter.
The only thing Gonna Let the Bears go anywhere is the DEFENSE.If it don't show up..It's over JONNY.
Should have an EASY time over the Seahawks.
They Have NOTHING
Lovie could not get the Bears up for the hated Packers! He didn't followup with lazy Grossman or Turner! Holmgren will be ready!Lovie's D has not showed up for weeks!
As true BEARS fans we don't want to see another great regular season go to waste. Another one and done will be to much for us to take.We also hope that good Rex shows up instead of the evil twin. The Bears will Prevail and move on to the NFC Championship, provided the "D" can recapture their early season form, and put another SMACKDOWN on the Seahawks. GO MIGHTY MONSTERS!
Alexander will run at will againt the Bears defense that has been unable to stop the run since Mike Brown went out.
There will be no Tommie Harris to terrorize Hassleback, he will have time to throw.
While the Seahawks secondary is depleted, the Bears (specifically Grossman) have not been able to mount a sustained passing threat in the last two months, especially downfield to Berrian.
The Bears must start Benson and get him at least 25 carries - if the Bears can't run they will lose big.
The Seahawks will blitz constantly and it will be again up to Grossman to be able to burn the blitz with long downfield passes - he hasn't shown the ability to do that for the last 10 weeks.
Prediction: Seahawks 24 - Bears 13
P.S. After the game, Lovie Smith will say, "Rex Grossman is our quarterback"
I'm as scared as hell the Bears will be playing Seahawks. I think the hawks will be coming back here to seek revenge and totally wreaked havoc on us. I hate being the bearer of bad news but the bears have seen their last game come sunday. I've been a bears season ticket holder for 15 years now and it's going to take more than just Brian Urlacker to win this game for us. Rex's confidence is shot and I don't think it's coming back anytime soon. I know you don't want to hear this either, but I think the Seahawks are starting to peak at the right time for them even though they have some injuries, they just have a way to step to the next level when it comes to the playoffs. Just my two cents. Sorry for the bad news.
Hey Bear Fan, why would we waste a better than average D lineman, a good running back, and a first round pick on a QB who isn't going to be good for another 3-4 years. Our defense will still be intact next year, minus Briggs which might come back to bight us. We need a QB that can win now. Is Grossman that, I don't know but I sure as hell can tell you Brady Quinn isn't. If the Raiders take Quinn with their first pick they will just further prove that they, Al Davis, are the worst franchise in the league. Quinn hasn't had a decent game against anyone other than the service academies and has done nothing to prove he deserves a first round pick. Trust me, I am an ND student and Quinn has shown me nothing my two years I've been here. Overrated. Russell isn't all that better. Soo he had one good game when it mattered most. He is Byron Leftwich at best. He has no armstrength and lobss the ball when he throws downfield. What did he do against Florida and Auburn? Case in point, keep the pick, draft a lineman.
As for the Bears this weekend. I am feeling exactly the same way as I was feeling 4 months ago right after the preseason games. THe Bears had done nothing right, Defense was shaky, and Griese, who has never even appeared in a playoff game was looking good. However, they showed me how much I knew by thrashing the Pack in Lambeau. I expect the same thing to happen this week against Seattle. If used correctly, Jones and Benson should tear up their D and Rrex won't have to make more than 12 throws a-la Big Ben for the Steelers last year. Result Bears 27 Hawks 9
That 0 was in one admittedly bad first half. But I think Rex having a bad game right before the playoffs could be a good thing. It'll make him work this week for sure. I know he's had some awful games, but he's also had the 2nd most 100+ rated games, including against these Seahawks when their secondary was intact. Bears go deep to Berrian for a 60 yards TD early, and then grind it out with Jones and Benson. Throw in a Hester return for good luck. Bears 31 Seahawks 10.
The Bears are the best team in the NFC. They have been all season and will prove it further the next two weeks. The Cowboys are lucky they lost and save them the embarrassment of getting blown out by the Bears. The Seahawks will not fare much better than last time they were here. The Saints lost 2 of their last 3 games and don't stand much chance coming to Soldier Field. If the Eagles should beat the Saints, which I doubt, they'll choke like they always do in a championship game.
Geez you Bears fans sound awfully confident behind a franchise that (with one admittedly impressive exception in 1985) has been snakebitten for the last 50 years. The Seahawks may be inferior this year, but they certainly aren't incapable. Some of you sound like my Cubs-fan friends did after Game 4 of the 2003 NLCS. This is not the '85 Bears. You should be bracing for the usual stumble rather than packing your sunblock for Miami.
Once Seattle gets here don't forget that they have even less receivers than they had for the wild card game. They have one less DB as well. Maybe they'll pick up a couple of guys from Starbucks on their way here. They were pretty beat up then and they're worse off now. So do you have a little more faith or are you just too pessimistic to believe anything. GO BEARS!!!
In response to jkkfla's post, there is a lot to be confident about. I know any team can beat another on any given day but other than the Saints the other NFC teams don't look too good. And I don't think the Saints, if they beat the Eagles will fare too well playing in Soldier Field in January. The Bears aren't snakebitten, they either got outcoached like last year or just plain lost to better teams. How many Superbowls do the Seahawks, Saints, Eagles, Chargers, Ravens and Colts have(I left the Patriots out for obvious reasons)? The Ravens won one and the Colts won one over thirty years ago. And I'm not a perpetually optimistic Cubs fan, I'm a Sox fan. And we all know what they did in 2005 when everyone was counting them out in September of that season.
All u BEARS fans sound so scared. Stop talking so much crap about the Hawks,A win is a win.Rex is the worst rating Q.B.When the Hawks win I can't wait to here all the weap talk
So jkkfla says that the Bears have done nothing for 50 years?
What an idiot.
31 years in the league and all they have to show for it is 5 division titles and zero titles.
In those same 31 years the bears have won 10 division titles and the Super Bowl.
There is 1 Seahawk in the Hall of Fame; there are 26 Bears in the Hall.
The Bears have won 9 titles; the Seahawks were blown out in their one and only chance.
I would stack up Payton, Sayers, Butkus, Singletary, Hampton, Grange or 50 other Bears against the Seahawks boring little generic expansion team history.
Jamarcus Russell has had a fantastic year. And he can throw 85 yards from his feet. Frankly, Byron Leftwich is a better quarterback than Rex Grossman--how bad would that be?
I think Orton might be ready to start next season if he gets his footwork down. In any case, he wouldn't have enough value in a trade to get the Raiders to bite.
What's going to happen if the Bears beat Seattle? Are the naysayers just going to write off the victory as a hollow triumph over a subpar opponent until the Bears do lose?
There isn't such a thing as a gimme in the nfl especially in the playoffs BUT this is as close as they come. With all the history about #1 seeds and the injuries that the seahawks have along with what should be a hungry bears team i really don't see how we lose. The weather will be a factor according to the forecasters and i think that will play into the bears hands as we all know how poor the d-line of seattle plays against the run.As for all those hating cowboy fans out there stop crying. Your pro bowl(by the way is a joke he made it)qb choked not only on the snap but also got lucky they gave up a safety instead of a td.Good teams find ways to win and ya'll didn't.As for the naysayers who said the D looks like crap look what Indy did this weekend. We are coming back with everybody except obviously brown and harris but tillman, johnson and vasher should make all the difference that we have been lacking the last few weeks.
Rex Grossman will throw at least one pass for a Hawks interception which will be returned for a touchdown. Shaun Alexander will rediscover his game against a Bears defense that can't defend against the run and what answer do the Bears have against Hasselback? None. The overhyped Bears will be shown as frauds. All this talk of a monumental collapse by the Bears if they lose to the Seahawks is unsubstantiated nonsense being propogated by the Chicago sports media. The truth is the Bears really aren't that good.
Prepare for next Season Bears fans, you have only a few days left to enjoy it.
It amazes me how people run their mouth in such ignorance. There is no other team in the league that has gotten as far as the Hawks with the degree of adversity they have suffered this year. if you call that "soft ass" you obviously have a soft head!
Who is the defending Conference champion? Seattle. This game will be close and the guess here is Lovie, Sexy Rexy and the Bears fumble away the game to the team that has confidence and believes in themselves...Seattle. Plus, think about who feels the pressure to win this game. Chicago. Bears fans better hope Rex decides this game is worth preparing for. I mean, it's not the Packers but...
BEARS FANS YOU BETTER HOPE
SEATTLE PLAYS BAD.BECAUSE
YOU THINK THAT YOUR GOING
TO THE SUPER BOWL AND THATS
A JOKE!IF YOU MAKE IT THAT
FAR THE CHARGERS WILL DISTROY YOUR LITTLE TEADY
BEARS!
Roman responds: At least you spelled Bears correctly. Sheesh.
The Bears lack something that champions are made of. Until they win a playoff game at home no matter who they are playing, they will never be taken seriously. Rex Grossman is an idiot and is playing like a wuss! I saw in a earlier comment that Seattle was soft. Rex Grossman is soft. Grossman has 20 interceptions, more than any other starting playoff QB. Bears fans need to stop thinking about how lucky Seattle was to beat Dallas (which they were), and concentrate more on how the Bears have a fraud for a quarterback. And how they will overcome his mistakes to beat Seattle.
Seattle has experience in these situations and knows how to win in the playoffs now. Something the Bears do not know how to do. However, the Seahawks did not know either until last year, so there is hope for you homer Bear fans. Seattle is gaining confidence and if the game is close in the fourth quarter watch out. Oh and by the way, last year didn't Carolina come in and make the Bears look like they should be on Friday Night Lights instead of the NFL. Good luck on Sunday Bear Fans!

The Bears better blow them out early -- the Seahawks are 5-1 this year in games decided by less than 3 points and 9-2 over the last two years.
Their field goal kicker kicked 4 game winners this year, and is the ProBowl alternate behind Gould.
This is a team that knows how to win.
Also, Hasselbeck has the highest 4th quarter QB rating in the NFL this year.
So watch closely... Despite what anyone says... if the Bears build a good lead early, the game is probably over. If not, it's the Bears season that is likely to be over...
The last time we had so many opposing fans on this blog rooting for their team was the first Minnesota game and we know what happened there. I think the game will surprise a lot of people. After this game you'll say that no one will stop the BEARS the rest of the way. They'll show you everything that you've been missing. The band wagon will be overflowing with a bunch of I-told-you-so people who were the ones saying they'll fail. Typical Chicagoans. GO BEARS!!!
Did i offend you emerald city idiots?TOO BAD,THE TRUTH HURTS AND YOUR TEAM IS SOFT!I never said grossman is the man but our o-line and rb's will dominant your "friday night lights" defense you have.Is seattle capable of beating the bears? Of course they are but will they?Fat chance.I know we have our issues but with all the grossman problems along with 2 pro bowlers missing on D we still have the superior team.Holmgren will keep your team in it outcoaching lovie but it still comes down to players and the bears have way too many skill players seattle has to deal with.As far as you guys dealing with adversity here's a tissue to dry your eyes cuz everybody in the nfl deals with adversity and injuries so get over it and feel blessed that you guys barely won a division that we swept this year.
nothing is a certainty in the play-offs, the Bears know that from last year. if the Bears play like they did in the first half of the season they should win handily, but if they continue the play they have shown the last weeks of the season Bears fans can join Cubs fans chanting "wait til next year"

How 'bout them Cowboys!

Lovie could not get the Bears up for the hated Packers! He didn't followup with lazy Grossman or Turner! Holmgren will be ready!Lovie's D has not showed up for weeks!

Here are a couple of anagrams that say it all:
Seatlle Seahawks = "weak ass athletes"
"Cold Steel on Ice" = "Clods Once Elite"
(describes Bill Wirtz crew)

As true BEARS fans we don't want to see another great regular season go to waste. Another one and done will be to much for us to take.We also hope that good Rex shows up instead of the evil twin. The Bears will Prevail and move on to the NFC Championship, provided the "D" can recapture their early season form, and put another SMACKDOWN on the Seahawks. GO MIGHTY MONSTERS!

Thoughts on the Seahawks matchup:

Without question, Hawks by 14.
Posted by: Hawks | January 8, 2007 02:37 PM
No question about this one... Hawks by at least two scores. What is left of the Bears D is soft, end of discussion.

Rex's QB Ratings for the final 4 December Games:
114.4
104.3
80.4
0.0

Posted by: Rudy | January 8, 2007 04:57 PM
Geez you Bears fans sound awfully confident behind a franchise that (with one admittedly impressive exception in 1985) has been snakebitten for the last 50 years. The Seahawks may be inferior this year, but they certainly aren't incapable. Some of you sound like my Cubs-fan friends did after Game 4 of the 2003 NLCS. This is not the '85 Bears. You should be bracing for the usual stumble rather than packing your sunblock for Miami.
Posted by: jkkfla | January 8, 2007 06:29 PM
Once Seattle gets here don't forget that they have even less receivers than they had for the wild card game. They have one less DB as well. Maybe they'll pick up a couple of guys from Starbucks on their way here. They were pretty beat up then and they're worse off now. So do you have a little more faith or are you just too pessimistic to believe anything. GO BEARS!!!
Posted by: William R.Donald | January 8, 2007 07:41 PM

Posted by: joey | January 8, 2007 09:49 PM
Posted by: Philtration | January 8, 2007 10:02 PM
Jamarcus Russell has had a fantastic year. And he can throw 85 yards from his feet. Frankly, Byron Leftwich is a better quarterback than Rex Grossman--how bad would that be?
I think Orton might be ready to start next season if he gets his footwork down. In any case, he wouldn't have enough value in a trade to get the Raiders to bite.
What's going to happen if the Bears beat Seattle? Are the naysayers just going to write off the victory as a hollow triumph over a subpar opponent until the Bears do lose?
Posted by: darryl m | January 8, 2007 10:02 PM

Seahawks over the Bears 24-10

The Bears will beat the Seahawks ONLY if the sorry a-- Bear team that Green Bay dominated in Soldier does not show up on Sunday.

Posted by: sal | January 9, 2007 09:11 AM
nothing is a certainty in the play-offs, the Bears know that from last year. if the Bears play like they did in the first half of the season they should win handily, but if they continue the play they have shown the last weeks of the season Bears fans can join Cubs fans chanting "wait til next year"
