How can Rex Grossman look so good in some games and so bad in games like Sunday?
Yes, losing Bernard Berrian made a big difference. Justin Gage looked lost out there, but still. Grossman got away with some bad passes off his back foot or flat-footed early in the season, but it's a dangerous practice.
It wasn't all his fault. He was getting clobbered all game and the return teams stunk. Even the defense was shredded by Joey Harrington and Ronnie Brown.
So much for 16-0. But just as it was premature to talk Super Bowl before Sunday, it's premature to talk about a quarterback controversy or not making it to the playoffs now.
Rex doesn't seem to have an on switch. When he's off he stays off.I only had a chance to watch after half time so I can't say for sure what happened.Get over it and get going to the next game.18-1 ain't bad.Go BEARS!!!
Many questions have been asked over the past couple of weeks like, Can the bears go undefeated? Is rex grossman better than jim McMahon? Is this "D" better than the one from 85' Is lovie smith the coach of the year? should he get a new contract? will the bears win the superbowl? are they the best team in the NFL? Was jason taylor full of crap? ALL of these questions have been answered with a BIG NO!!!!!!!!! This team looked like the worst team in the NFL. Grossman looked like crap. It's obvious all you have to do is pressure him and he is done. He WILL turn the ball over and cost the bears the game. To say he is better than McMahon is a COMPLETE JOKE he is NO where near as good as jimmy was. Ronnie Brown made the bears "great d " look like a farce. The bears "D" is NO where AS good as 85' I hope this put's to rest all these BS comparison's as the bears are an average team at best and was undefeated ONLY because of a weak schedule. IF the bears were to get to the superbowl, which is possible thanks to the weak NFC, the REAL ELITE TEAMS like new england and the colts would DESTROY the bears it would not even be close. It was fun while it lasted but, now we will see what the bears and lovie smith are made of. I bet NBC whishes they did not waste their flex schedule on this BAD team. I cannot even put into words how SICK I am of the same BS every year. Yeah, we will make the playoffs and probably get home field but, what does it matter. It's only going to be another whipping in the first round and another disappointing season. Same old BS. This is why smith has not been given a new contract. He would have been given a bunch of money and the bears would start losing. I do not blame Angelo one bit he made a great desicion in waiting he now has bargaining powers that he would not have had had he paid smith prematurley.
Its time to make the switch to Benson. I'm tired of Thomas "no impact" Jones getting one and 2 yards then breaking a meaningless 17 yard run to pad his stats. Maybe the loss will wake the coaching staff up to the fact they have no consisent running game. Grossman is still learning and will have bad games. But if the Bears are always in 2nd or 3rd and long he will be forced to throw all the time. Benson was drafted for a reason. Everytime I watch him play it becomes more apparent that he can do what Thomas Jones can't....run the ball for positive yards and break a freaking tackle! I knew that Jones' inability to run the ball and the reluctance to put in Benson more would catch up, and it finally did! He did an ok job last year and he is a veteran and all that stuff, but its time to upgrade. And I don't want to hear about his pass blocking because it ain't THAT great (Grossman got killed several times because of him). Lovie has never been scared to make a switch from a "solid" player to a better one before (D.Manning T. Johnson) hopefully he won't be now. Winning all those games covered up the lack of a consistent run game, now maybe everyone will see a change must be made NOW!!! For all of you still mad at the holdout or the comments in the press, get over it. The Bears don't have to cut Jones, but its time to begin the Cedric Benson era next week in NY.
Rex Grossman is who I've ben saying he is 4 yaers. If the Bears are down the game is over. He CANNOT lead this team 2 a come from behind win.
Frank... well said. Lovie and some of his staff seem clueless. None of this needed to happen but I'm glad it did. There is only one hope for a good season and that is for the Bears to fix their problems. They have not even tried yet which makes me believe they don't get it yet. Let's hope that they get it now.
Lets face it, the bears got outhustled, outhit, out played!I don't think the coaches could of done anything that would of helped them out today.Grossman looked like sh.t, the line got no pressure, the o-line didn't open any lanes and don't even get me started on the special teams.Turner's play calling wasn't bad , the players didn't execute.Well here it is, if the bears want anybody to think that are they are contenders they better wake up, stop thinking they are gonna walk over everybody, and hit somebody in the f..kin mouth for christ sake's. This team has looked soft for a month now, they ain't knocking anybody on their a$$' ,the dline needs to step up.I know this team has the talent to go to the big dance but they better start realizing that they have 5 games in a row against teams that can hit back and will. Here go lovie ,you want the money here is where you are gonna earn it.
Ah, yes. The fallout.
Sal nailed this one--as easy as it is for people to blame Lovie Smith for this, I saw nothing wrong with the play-calling. The Bears just got out-played--mostly on offense. Look at the Dolphins' offensive scoring drives - 6 yards, 12 yards, 24 yards - no D can keep a team out of the end zone when they start that deep in their territory.
Roman--as for how Rex can be so completely bipolar, the answer is simple--you can take "phantom reps" on the sideline for your entire career, but nothing can take the place of real game experience. Rex got a bit comfortable having the benefit of a defense that can cover up his subpar decision-making by giving him the ball a lot (mostly on a short field). He thinks he can ride his skills to the promised land.
With that said--I've had it with this talk of "quarterback controversy" - if Lovie puts in Brian Griese, that and only that would be a sign of poor coaching. You've made the commitment to Rex--he's got the skills, and games like the Arizona game and today are just going to happen. He's got to have them in order to grow.
With that said, where are all the folks disparaging Orton's mechanics now?
Like I have been saying- this is a very mediocre team. Stand by Bears' fans for a 500.season. Maybe they'll be able to beat Green Bay one more time but put your Super Bowl dreams to rest. Miami is 2 and 6 because they played tough teams. The Bears are 7 and one because they have played not-so good teams. I look to New Orleans to be the Cinderella team this year.
Well that was embarrassing. But the real humiliation will happen in the next 4 weeks. Lovie dovie has made dennis green and nick saban look like great nfl coaches and maybe saved their jobs. Couse lovie just blamed it on turnovers and said the bears will still win the nfc north. they say ignorance isn't about making mistakes, it is making the same mistakes over and over again. Maybe if angelo drafts half a dozen more defensive players the bears can master that complicated cover 2 next year. hard to stay in those gaps when the other team is blocking you and moving around on and all. This team will make the playoffs and may even win one playoff game, which is all ted phillips said was the goal for the team, keep the psl holders happy with their exclusive playoff tickets, unless they live in indiana or some other hinterland like that. But they should rake in enough to hire a few more cousins and inlaws of the mckaskys.
People say the coaching staff is not to take any of the blame but, who's fault is it jones was still running the ball when benson looked pretty good ? Who kept a BAD rex grossman in the game after 3 picks? The coaching staff thats who. Jones tip toes at the line constantley. You cannot stop at the line and excpect to gain yardage. LOU nailed it on the head, 20 2yard runs and 1 or 2 10 yarders when they mean nothing. The bears will still win the division but they better make some corrections, quick!! I get upset but, the bears are still my team. I have supported them for over 30 years and I am not going to stop now but, this is getting old!!!
Sorry cheerleaders, it is Lovie's fault. Some of us have seen this coming because of his failure to address problems that surfaced early last season, were still very evident in the preseason and have been obvious all season long.
I fully believe that Rex is never going to be a "great" QB. He needs to use the skills he has and not constantly be trying to make a play. His impatience out there is going to hurt the Bears. He is the style of QB that will either win one for you, or lose one for you. His style is the type that is turnover prone. Brett Favre, who he is most often compared to, has lots of TD passes, but almost as many int's. We'll see which Rex comes out this week, hopefully the good one does.
This is exactly what the Bears needed to happen to them. They can now get off their high horse, give the Lombardi trophy back to the league, and the fans can quit dreaming and realize that this team has some serious flaws. The defense is great most of the time, but if they fail you can not expect the offense to save them. Rex has not proven at all that he can get the job done when it counts or it is needed because the defense is having an off day. How quickly everyone forgets that the offense was nonexsistent in the miraculous win over the cardinals. If it were not for the save by the defense and the special teams the bears would be 6-2. Until Rex becomes a consistent performer the Bears will be very vulnerable in the next three games on the road. If Miami scored 31 with their offense, what do you think Tom Brady and the Pat's will do. Their poor performance against the colts is the exception not the norm. I see two maybe three losses coming in the next three weeks if the offense can not find a consistentcy they have not had up until now.
The Bears need Bernard Berrian or else they are pretty much screwed on offense. Mushin is ok, but if he's the number one receiver, you can forget it. Bernard is out 2-4 weeks. Bears will lose atleast half of the games he doesn't play. I still believe in the Bears defense. If they weren't stuck trying to stop the Dolphins on their own 20 all the time because of the turnovers they would have beat the heck out of the dolphins offense. At this point the QB position is irrelevent because they would lose with Rex or Brian at this point with their offensive talent.
How's this as a way to avoid a debacle like Sunday's versus Miami. Two changes in perspective for the players and coaches to consider.
1) Have some urgency on the field. Complacency will kill a good team as much as injury will.
2) Start back at square one with Grossman. Consider him a Kyle Orton and formulate the offensive game plan from there. Limit Grossman's ability to lose the game for the defense.
Mark... you described a couple of easy things the coaches could do. In fact this should have been done a very long time ago. Lovie doesn not get it.
What problem happened in this game that surfaced last year?Last year we had a good running game and we were waiting all season for Rex to come off the injured list.Rex wasn't losin games and looking like he looks now.The D was looking good all season long. This team is rising and falling with the QB play, right now.Rex isn't getting it done.No coach teach a QB to throw off his back foot and not to square your shoulders before they throw. His mechanics are way off and he seems to be willing his passes to land in someone's hands.Do they tear him down and build him up?Do they even have time to do all that?Brian Griese is waiting in the wings but to use him means you concede Rex's future.I don't think that Angelo is ready to do that. He's at the tail end of his contract and Rex is his bonus baby.If you read some blogs from the past I said that after going 6-0 and losing in any shape or fashion that some of you guys would say exactly what you're saying now.A lot of things go into 7-0 teams losing to 1-6 teams. That's their SB for the season.Has Arizona played like they played the BEARS, since.I never said that the BEARS were great.I always said that they were not losers like you guys love to say. When we win some of you guys say one line of comments. Now that they lost you guys are writing 10 page novels about how bad they are.Teams get their A$$es kicked sometimes.Other than Indy every other team has lost. And when they have lost it wasn't pretty.I'm glad some of you guys are coming out the woodwork.I was worried that some of you had died.I'm glad it was only your faith that did.GO BEARS!!
easy folks, our record is 7 - 1. let the emotions cycle out and look at the problem areas. the coaching staff is responsible for making change when it is needed. they have made good and bad choices this year. the offense is unbalanced. are we a running team or what? the lack of a running game is hurting the team. too much emphasis has been put on the passing game. Grossman's early success came in part from teams loading up the line to stop the run. now that opponents have some tape on the Bears they know how to shut down the passing attack. we found out last year that if you can run, you can win even when your quarterback is having problems. running the ball more effectively would take some pressure off of Grossman, the offensive line and the defense. ball control, time of possesion, keep your defense fresh sound familiar? keeping a back in just for blocking is not being commited to the running game. personally I would love to see Benson get 30 carries in a game. just imagine if we had a back who could break tackles, pound the defense and get lose for some big gains or bust a 60 yard touchdown.
Lots of good comments so far so I will add my 2 cents. This loss can't just be pinned on Grossman. Yes he played bad but he wasn't the only one. People who say that the play-calling wasn't bad wasn't watching the same game. Anytime Rex has to throw 41 times the Bears will lose. There is no running game. BEnson had some great runs in the 2nd quarter but then they put Jones back in. I'm tired of seeing Jones tip-toe all over the place and not hit the hole hard. Benson seems to do this and he should have been played alot more because the Bears actually looked good when he was in. The Offense was moving the ball and Rex had time to throw becasue Ced was busting throw the D. Next, what in the world was Gage doing in the game. He was responsible for at least 3-4 drops and a terrible fumble that pretty much killed the Bears chances of a comeback. He looked lost out there and the injury to B.B. really hurt. Gage isn't the replacement I would want on the field. He is the same as Moose, who needs to start earning that paycheck because he isn't doing much right now either. What happened to Bradley, hopefully he isn't still injured because we need a big-time reciever to replace Berrian. Rashied would do all right but he is more a slot reciever. This game was a blessing in disguise for the Bears. Now they will have this bad taste in their mouth all week. They will have to listen to the critics who will say they aren't as good as their record and maybe that will light a fire under them going into the biggest game of the year against the Giants. Hopefully the Miami game was an abberation and the real Bears will come out next week with something to prove. It seems they play better with a chip on their shoulder. Grossman will bounse back but it is time for a change at RB. Ced needs to get the bulk of the carries against NY. Don't lose faith fellow Bears fans the season starts this week and I'm sure we will be pleasantly suprised how our team bounces back from this neccesary defeat.
going unefeated would have been nice. but getting focused is more important. remember in 85 after the lose. remember the playoffs that year. one thig everyone is over looking, true grossman has been in the league 3 years, but he hasnt played in 15 games yet. he is still young and prone to mistakes. jawoski pointed out prior to yesturdays game, class for young qb's take about three years. when you expect alot from a young qb, then you put all your hopes into said qb. maybe this is the bears's time maybe not. i would like to think so. personally, i wouldnt change a thing. see if rex can rebound from this disaster and come back against a ployoff bound team,(we could see them again). if he can then consider rex as the future, if not then give up on him and look in the free agency for the future. (thats why i didnt want to compare him to jimmy hollywood). also you cant put the entire blame on the qb. think about the run defence. YOU HAVE TO STOP THE RUN. or you can get your butt handed to you like say,,,yesturday.
Easy schedule? How can there be easy schedule in NFL? The Bears are not playing any college teams. Any NFL team is capable of winning. Miami was picked to be in the superbowl before the season, but they are 2-6.. Arizona, with their high-powered offense were supposed to be playoff contenders..
Ok, so the Bears had another bad game, but they will surely bouce back and fix their problems. Like it or not people, but Rex is the Bear's QB. He is no Manning or Favre, and maybe he never could be, but he has the potential of only getting better. 16-0, 15-1, or 12-4... Chicago Bears is the team to beat in NFC.
Kyle Orton didnt win any games last year, but the Bears didnt lose because of him either. All Rex has to do is avoid making turnovers and they can go unbeaten the rest of the way..
Bears have many holes - a mediocre QB is just one. LB's are massively overrated...Briggs and Urlacher are good...not great. Hillenmeyer - I think I saw about 10 LBs in college this past weekend better than him. 11-5 is a really possibility. Maybe 1 playoff win. Romo - get off the ledge.
Thomas Jones has got to go. If there is not a hole to run in, he loses yards 95% of the time. Cedric hit the hole if there was one yesterday, and if there wasn't a hole he still ran to the line and got at least a yard or two. Give the guy a chance. Everyone has to admit the guys has some talent. I would love to see the RB's get 45-50 carries next week just to see what would happen. 42 passes for an inexperienced QB will never work. If the running doesn't work then at least we can punt and let our defense stop them. It worked last year.
Seems to me I heard coach Lovie say the Bears are a RUNNING team. Well maybe had they used their million dollar draft pick and actualy ran the ball, maybe the million dollar quarterback would not have had as many interceptions as he did. Get back to running the ball, the passing game will open up, and..... the bears have one hell of a tight end.
Get with it coaches GO BEARS!
Blake... you made several good observations.
Scary Rex is not the man for the job. He's not a leader and he flat out sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 reasons we dont look good.
Obviously REX is the first one, under pressure and he really stinks. WHATS HE THINKING? and secondly is Urlacher are only defense anymore. What happened to Vasher of last year.. Why havent we managed to sack a quarterbacks with the worst O-line as much as we should be (ARIZONA and MIAMI). I would also like to say that the running game is also NO MORE of a force than are own O-line.
Now what do the bears do with out berrian ? A problem that was never adressed in the off season. We do not have a true number two reciever. Justin Gage is a joke. He would be lucky to make another teams practice squad. I would rather see Davis in there. Is there something wrong with Davis or just another poor coaching move ? Maybe Bradley is ready to come back. It looks like we will be seeing 8 in the box once again and watch Jone "dance" around the line of scrimmage and gain 2 yds. I still cannot believe they lost to the dolphins. This has to rank as one of Smith's top 3 defeat's. If Urlacher goeas down they are done, stick a fork in them. Can we find ANY BODY who can catch a punt. Why was he even TRYING to catch it in the first place. He was on the 7 or 8 yard line, fair catching it. Let it go. Even if they down it you still wind up on the 7 or 8. What a bone head move. How many times do you have to tell someone if it is inside the ten LET IT GO. That type of play I will blame on the caching staff. If players continue to make the same mistake's over and over and over. it is the coaches fault period! Either you do not know how to communicate what needs to be done to the player or your to stupid to remove him.
The "real" Bears are the one's you saw against Miami - can't consistently run, can't consistently stop the run. Whenever the games have been close the Bears have shown this behavior. Only because of very late game turnovers the Bears won at Minnesota and at Arizona, and lost the Miami game.
Also, the quarterback cannot consistently respond effectively to pressure. The three games the quarterback has been regularly pressured the Bears lost one and nearly lost at Minnesota and at Arizona.
Unfortunately these problems are systemic to the Bears system and personnel and cannot be "corrected" this season.
Finally, the Bears now have to play 5 of their remaining 8 games on the road, where they have played badly. And these away games are against much, much better competition.
I had posted earlier that the Bears might go 12-4. This seems optomistic at this point. Probably 11-5 again, winning the division but losing in the first round again. Which will make things interesting since Rivera and possibly Turner will be gone after the season. If my win/loss scenario plays out I would not renew Lovie's contract and go in a different direction.
To whoever said that the Dolphins played tough teams, take a look at their first seven opponents. If anything, it was easier than the Bears schedule, with a couple teams in common (Green Bay, Buffalo). The Bears stomped those teams, and
the Dolphins got stomped by them.
The Bears beat themselves this game. Remember that the Bears defense shut down
Miami on their first three possesions, even with some very questionable penatly calls. If you repeatedly give a team the ball starting in the red zone, you're going to get burnt eventually, no matter how good your defense is.
The Bears have a tough stretch and could very well lose two or even three of the next three games. After that they will ratchet it up against inferior competition and finish 12-4 at worst. Calling out a .500 season at this point is ridiculous.
I'm sorry--I don't buy all this nonsense about how bad the Bears' play-calling is. When you're down three scores and you have a proven big-play threat on the field (Berrian) with no discernible running game, of course you're going to call a bunch of pass plays. I guarantee that, if the Bears had done what some of you are suggesting they ought to and attempted to establish the run, the message boards would be aflame with people railing the coaching staff for playing too conservatively. And what happened to Thomas Jones being the proven veteran and Cedric Benson being the selfish young punk?
Some of the commentary I'm seeing is beyond ridiculous--William R. McDonald, thank you for injecting some sense into this thread. The coaches kept Grossman in the game because they felt Grossman gave them the best chance to win--and god forbid they actually try and work with what they know they have instead of panicking and shoving Griese in at the first sign of trouble. I'm a Rex-hater of the highest order, but you know what? He's in, and he's had two-and-a-half bad games, and the aspects of his game that have suffered are things he's going to have to play through, which means we're going to have to *gasp* be patient.
(Blake--this isn't a personal attack against you, for you do make some valid points--Justin Gage? Justin Gage?!?)
Grossman has as much chance of leading Bears to super bowl as I do! Rex is awful! All the hype about Rex!He's kerry Wood in shoulder pads!Lovie too dumb not to pull Grossman!
I am 100% certain the play calling is a big problem just like last season. It puts the entire offense in situations it isn't quite ready for. It isn't tailored enough to hide our weaknesses, utilize our strengths, exploit the Ds weaknesses and negate it's strengths. The coaches aren't coaching very well either. Too many mistakes across the board. We should be 5-3 right now lumped together with the other near .500 teams and Minn right there. I never swallowed the hype from the media and never got carried away by emotion with a few big wins over teams that were not very good or just happen to play like crap that day. I've been right on the money since day one and I plan to stay there.
I'm sorry Darryl M;no Mc needed in my name but thanks for the good graces. You also make several strong valid points in your blogs, often. And I should be admonished for not telling you sooner.Your practical approach is always welcomed.GO BEARS!!
NFC North prediction:
Bears 12-4
Minn 8-8
We're gonna make the playoffs but don't expect anything beyond that. Hopefully our 1st game will be vs a team that limps into the playoffs banged up so maybe we can get 1 win before getting stomped by a well coached team.
Now that I've calm down after the Miami game I can finally post something meaningful. Some of you guys are a trip! After losing a game, all of a sudden a 7-1 team are the Arizona Cardinals. Are you guys for real. Look I was just as upset last Sunday. The entire TEAM played like crap Sunday, not just Rex. Once again the line didn't block well, and the D let Ronnie Brown run all over them. But am I gonna say that this team is not gonna make the Superbowl? H### No! some of you need to stop it! Stop it ! Stop it! I said in my last post that the Bears need to look out because "Miami seems pissed about the lack of respect they've been getting from the media." I just had a feeling that the Bears were going to come out flat. And they did. Thats why I was so mad. However I believe this loss was good for them. It will allow them to refocus, and know that Teams aren't just going to bow down for them. They have to earn everything. And people stop already with the bashing! 7-1 midway in the season have exceeded all of our expectations, so stop the Lovie bashing, the Rex Bashing and all. Remember that Rex is still Growing as a QB and he is going to have up and performances. He is not Peyton Manning yet.
The Bears have problems that will prevent them from winning the SB. That's the truth of the matter. I wish some of you would stop pretending the coaches know what to do. It's obvious they don't or we wouldn't have looked sooooo bad at least twice so far.
Jermaine,I like that fact that you took the time to sort it all out before posting.I guess a clear mind has a better chance to assess the situation much better. Not to discount the opinions of others who have posted,I just think a snap decision is really not warranted.I think the doomsayers do have points that are valid. They are just speaking more on the emotion of the loss, moreso. But to blame a loss on just one person and one thing doesn't provide the best ability in assessments.Motivation by players can not be discounted.Overall,I just feel that Miami was motivated.I,also, can't say the BEARS got the best out of their players that game.Change would be good, but to make change just to make the fans happy doesn't change the results. We are in the place we're in because of the whole team's involvement.Good and bad.Every win we've had was as a team, and our loss was in the same fashion.Sure,Rex looked worse but he didn't lose the game.He didn't have to stop the run.We have to enter this next game with a solid plan and not deviate from it.We'll get it done.GO BEARS!!!
Let's get back to the "Defense" Forget ALL comparisons of Brian Urlacher to Singletary or Butkus cause like I said before, a track meet will get run over when you run at em, 157 yards down our throat! MVP? No Mike Brown, No crown.
Yet? Grossman will NEVER be a peyton manning. Why should we stop the grossman bashing and the smith bashing ? They deserve it! When the QB plays like crap and the coach makes bad moves they desereve to be "bashed" Sorry that's the way it is. ALL that matters is that final score on sunday nothing else!! Not how good you did last week, not how you have been doing better. WINNING, thats is all that matters, period. NOBODY does or should care about ANYTHING else!! Maybe it sounds critical and selfish but, I do not care about anything but, winning. W-I-N-N-I-N-G!!!!!
Frank,
I understand where you and BBB are coming from. Let me tell you, I was so mad Sunday, I didn't want to watch any highlights, post anything in this blog, read any articles. I had to take a break from the Bears! I just couldn't believe Lovie didn't have his boys ready mentally for that game - especially after the Arizona near dibacle. That said, overall the coaching staff and the players have been excellent throughout most of the first half of the season. A few hickups isn't going to change my perception of this team. Now, the question is, can they refocus and rebound for the New York game on the road? They have proven twice that after bad performances they bounced back and killed their next opponents. It will be interesting. The Giants have been talking mad trash this entire week. I guess they need to fire themselves up, because they are extremely undermanned (injuries). But they need to look in the mirror because they almost lost to a lesser team last week. The looked like garbage against Texans. So we'll see.
Whats the deal with the coaching staff.Did Cedric commit the unforgivable sin? Oh yes Jones the great pass blocker (joke) So much BS about Jones-.Yes Yes Yes give Benson the ball and watch him break the tackles, pound the defence get loose for the big gains. Bob Jackson
Well, It's a new week. Let's hope the bears can rally and come back with a strong performance. When they lose it makes for a loonnnggg week. Let's go bears!!!!!!!!!!1

Jones has not had a single break-out game all year, and in the one game in which he went over 100 yards, he got that yardage because we were ahead.
We didn't get the lead 'because' of his running. He was able to run 'because' we had the lead, and that's what troubles me. He lacks the burst of power and speed to be able to put a defensive team like the Bears on his back and carry them for three or four quarters.
Last year he piled up some decent stats, but that was mainly due to the fact that he was our only offensive option.
Either play Benson, or deal him to another team. Sitting him on the bench is nothing more than the complete waste of a number four draft pick.
Mark... good points.
Frank... I hear ya!
Darryl M,
No offense taken by your post. Everyone has the right to their opinion, that's what makes these blogs so good. But I do have to disagree with you about the play-calling. When you have a young QB like Rex he must be put in spots that he can excel in. I think we all got a little spoiled with how good Rex played the first couple of games. He has the potential to be very good but now teams have figured out that he is young and makes mistakes under pressure. This is where Ron Turner needs to step in and formulate a run-based attack with quick dropbacks for Rex to expose the D for blitzing so much. How about a screen every once in a while? But no they stand Rex back there in 5 and 7 step drops and he gets pressured by blitzing safeties or LBs. That is where the play-calling and coaching should be better and so far it hasn't. And enough with Jones. Unless he has a 20 ft hole to run through he doesn't run north-south. He is always dancing around the line and there has been at least 3-5 times he has lost yardage when they have been in the redzone on 1st down. His blocking, which he gets so much praise for, is spotty at best. It is time to see Benson impose his will on defenses because he runs with authority and through people. Anyways good posts from all and GO BEARS!
I think it would be harder to run with the lead.EVERYONE knows you're gonna run. It's always the element of surprise that helps teams succeed.
Yes, running with the lead can be harder but it depends on the approach of the defense. Because it can be harder is why some of us keep talking about improving the running game instead of stroking Jones so we can be effective running with the lead in a big game and hold on for the win and not lose the game. How would you like to watch the Bears with a 14 point lead in the 4th qtr of the SB? Sounds good but if we can't run it and can't stop the run you're all gonna cry like girls when the AFC team comes back and wins. How you gonna feel then? Would you like to see the Bears improve in those areas before it comes to that? I would. Otherwise, have a good cry. Let it all out, it's ok. There's always next year.
And the year after that .And the year after that. And the year after that. And the year after that.If any back can still get yards when the opposing team knows you're gonna run that's still good.If we actually gave our back consistent reps and committed to the run instead of going for a 65 yard TD pass we'd be better.ALL backs say that get it going after they get a rhythm.Every last one of them does. When we stopped the changing of the backs did we actually get going. No one expected Jones to run 26 yards on a 3rd and 22.The element of surprise is always better.Even Peyton Manning can't pass on every down.If you expect him to pass every down you can defend him.If the element of surprise didn't matter we might as well not have a huddle and just wing it out there.Everything has to come into play.We have to have a sound gameplan. We have to stick with it and not abondon it.I can't think of one game where we kept running in spite of what was going on.We either took what they gave us or over played what we needed to do.I love to 65 yard TDs,but when they don't work we're in the hole.We have to convert some 3rd downs into 1st downs and not get too many 3 and outs.Run, run, pass long.Run,pass long, pass long. All passes missed and here's the punting unit. That happens so much.Great we're 8-1 but don't put this all on one person.Good or bad.
As long as the special teams have been winning the ball games without any help from Rex Grossman, now is the time for Brian Griese to show just how really good are offensive unit is.Now is the time.

The comment we're 10-2 doesn't hold water. If it was'nt for the Bears stellar defense, spectacular special teams and a great punter plus the ineptitude of the opposing teams i.e Phoenix Cardinals plus the fact how many interceptions were dropped by the opposing defenders Grossmans numbers would be even worse! Rex has gotten worse with each game. I say put him on the bench with a big bowl of Wheaties and get his head into the game. It's obvious that when you see him
throw short into double coverage when he has the Moose wide open in the end zone, he is either color blind and cannot tell what color the jersy is or his head is in the clouds. If this were baseball, the bullpen would have gotten called three games ago. So who's going to show up Monday night? The good Rex or the evil Rex!

Hi everyone. We rarely think people have good sense unless they agree with us.
I am from Verde and learning to speak English, please tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Flea repellent, fleas, flea spray, flea and tick spray, nonchemical, organic flea spray, organic flea non chemical flea repellent."
Thank :) Kiele.
