My first thought was pine tar. But it seemed too obvious.
I thought one replay showed some Cardinals saving a baseball or two for inspection. But nothing was said about it later.
What could it have been?
What was that on Kenny Rogers' hand?

I don't believe it was pine tar,because it would have been on the ball. It could have been some manufactured "new skin" type of deal, to increase his grip. Quite frankly, I don't think anybody knows except Rogers and maybe Leyland, and your guess is as good as mine.

That sweetheart of a guy Rogers had pine tar on his hand. And Larussa didn't make an issue of it because his friendship with Leyland supersedes the integrity of the game. And the umps looked the other way for whatever reason. Another black eye for baseball. And baseball people wonder why the TV ratings for the season are abysmal?
I think Kenny Rogers used illegal substance's on his person all throughout the season. I don't think He's a 17 game winner without a little help by cheating. He proved to everyone last year what type of person he was when he assulted that camera man. He's as bad for Baseball AS Steroids. KICK HIM OUT!

wasn't it LaRussa that claimed Maddux used an illegal substance early this year in a game?
Either LaRussa knows everything about seeing pitchers cheating (maybe teaching them himself?) or once again if an old pitcher beats his team, he has to be cheating. From Tony's track record this year, the second is more likely.
Who cares? If a guy used a substance to increase his grip then let it be. people are making this too big of a deal. Baseball players can't breathe wrong without people accusing them of cheating.
its a liitle pine tar and dirt. most pitchers do it. its nothing new. just play the game and let the better team win. it's just magnified by the press but, all teams do the same thing. Heck, the league has a guy rough up ALL the balls before EVERY GAME with a dirt mix they buy. So whats the big deal ?
maybe he punched out an unflushed toilet...Kenny is a space cadet, ya never know!
