Any time a team come from behind without an ounce of offense is confusing. When will the defense let us down? When will the luck run out? It's good to win but who can really say if there is a chink in the armor.Rex looked like pure crap. The announcer put it best when he said that if they were in Chicago we would be booing. It's good that they never gave up.I asked Hester through my television not to stop because I had no faith in our offense tonight.I actually wanted Greise in to put us out of our misery.I can't put my finger on it.I'll just say no more Monday night games, please. The Cardinals were really UP for this game. They were pumped.I think it's best if we stop talking about 19-0.After tonight it may not be realistic. Some teams are gonna play us like it's their last gasp dying- and- taking- you -with- me kind of thing.I can't see expending this kind of energy every game and having enough for a full season.I'm still thinking Superbowl but not totally undefeated. The injuries will be the barometer and telling on how we'll fare the next couple of games. It's good we have the bye next week.Damn you,Cardinals. Why couldn't you just lay down and made our road easier. That said,GO BEARS!!!
I know the bears looked bad tonight but good teams find a way to win maybe this will give them a wake up call. Rex was bad and smith once again called a bad game. What was with that pooch kick that went out of bounds? Urlacher showed why he is the defensive MVP. I think grossman will bounce back and the bears will roll on. Remember there is no dominant team in the NFL even the colts had to come back to beat the titans. The bears will be fine.
I know the cards are upset but, what about those comments from d. green. He basically said we stink and they let us off the hook. They played well but, the better team won. Great teams find a way to win, bad teams find a way to lose. I give them their props they played well but, it is what it is. games are 60 min long not 55. they will be a good team but are still a season or two away.
these 22 men have heart, and pride, sure they are paid to do it,.....but not like they did it on monday night, God bless 'em!
Let the national onslaught of "overrated" begin. The worst part of this is it'll go on for two weeks instead of one because of the bye.
There's no question the offense looked like Kyle Orton was at the reigns again and that there's problems. But consider this: with everything that went wrong last night somehow this team still found a way to put itself in a position to win the game.
Maybe they're not the 85 Bears but 6-0 is still 6-0. Here's hoping this the wake up call.
The Bears started out from the get go over throwing their receiver when he was open. Everything from that point on went wrong for them. It took 3 quarters for them to awaken as they did, no wonder I stayed up to watch! Grossman got flustered in the pocket, did I expect that to happen? Yes, but no so many times. The Cardinals blitzed, our line faultered, that's all I can say. But as always, the Bears being a defensive team as they have been, came through with the help also from special team play too. Hester was stopped all night until the 83 yard punt return. There's hope always from the Bears, you can never count them out of a game. DA BEARS!

I think this game puts the Bears lack of offensive talent on glaring display. We are nowhere near ready for prime time. After all the hype this week, I was embarassed to watch and see the reality of these bad news Bears.
Rex Grossman's mean time to failure. (MTF) Perhaps that's what we saw last night. Five good to great games followed by one horrendous train wreck. Next game, the cycle begins again. That's my take on it until results show me otherwise.
Oh yeah, we also saw a Bear victory, stolen in memorable fashion. Looks like any other 'W' in the record books. And finally, after chasing the Cardinals out of Chicago 47 years ago, haven't the Bears done enough to that franchise? Apparently not.
What a game! A long Friday the 13th weekend may have been the problem. The Bears deserve a little luck now and then just like everyone else has, except maybe the Cards. The entire team looked awful in the first half but the D managed to slow the bleeding and with a few miracle plays the Bears remain unbeaten going into their bye.
i said it all along and ill say it again..just like the "perfect" 85 bears lost that single game against the Dolphins...these 06 Bears need to lose one game to keep them grounded....or maybe this win against the Cardinals was a bucket of ice water down their backs and has woken them up to reality that you can not underestimate a team so quickly. but hey... the main point is we won right? wrong! the main point is that once again...the big D came through and won the game. like my brother kept saying all night..."man if we didnt have this D, we'd be screwed" and of course we would. the defense tried so hard to keep the cardinals back while Rex just kept going long..hence the 4 interceptions (oh yeah...try & chose who's better now.. McMahon or Grossman..yeah thats what i thought.) 6-0..... there's definetley more to come!

Any quarterback can have a bad game, and hopefullyRex Grossman had his. The true test of this season is going to be November 5th through November 26th. The Bears play 3 road games in a row, one of which is against New England, and the other against the New York Giants who may be better than their record shows. If they get through this, even if it's 2 and 1, then maybe they are for real.
Good teams hold big leads, bad teams lose them. Dennis Green can boast what he "saw", but they still lost. The Bears are 6-0 and no one else is and have won in hostile environments on the road. Montana's had bad games, Aikman had bad games, Tom Brady has had bad games. Grossman had a bad game. What great teams do is find ways to win when everything is NOT in sync. And last night, the Bears found a way to win. All the doomsayers will say, oh, they found the problems and will now exploit it. Make Rex Grossman beat you. Bottom line, Bears won, I don't care how, and as a fan, neither should you. McNabb has thrown for 300+ yards several times this year and his team isn't undefeated. Grossman simply had a bad game. And he even said, "I can't remember having such a bad game and still winning it." So, he knows he stunk last night. Better he get the stink out now rather than the first playoff game. Ron Turner and Lovie Smith own as much of the problem with poor play selection last night. And as the Bears have done all season, it was obvious the Cardinals were teeing off on the Bears, knowing they had to pass once they got behind. Sound familiar? When you become one dimensional, you become predictable. Live and Learn, and I am still complete sold on this team as a SuperBowl favorite.
This is the best kind of wake-up call: Bears won. You may rate their performance at 0.33, but in the win-loss, it rounds up to a full 1 in the W-column. This wasn't a train wreck, just a hitch. This train will arrive.
Lifetime Southsider chiming in. The Bears ARE for real. The 85 Bears had great balance and so do the 06 Bears. I am a believer until I see otherwise. 6-0 is 6-0 in espanol, russian and Italian! The whole NFL wishes they were 6-0, but they are not. CREDIT Arizona and Dennis Green for playing a GREAT game! They faired better than the other 5 victims. The Bears have more than just their great Defense, they have a good offense and special teams. Robbie Gould and Devin Hester provided 10 points of that comeback. Translation 2 of the 3 will beat most teams in this league and you will need devine intervention when all 3 are clicking! Bears sputtered a little yesterday, but they played CLUTCH Ball and pulled it out like CHAMPS! Stay on the bandwagon folks...its just getting fun! Keith.
Personally, I'm just amazed. Five great games followed by one terrible one - and because of the one terrible one, you have fans like Ken ready to write off the Bears. Nonsense. That speaks to a real lack of football knowledge. Which do you suppose is more likely to be the real Bears - the team you've seen for 5 games, or the team you've seen for 1?
The bears win today shows us why there are 3 phases to a football team, offense, defense, and special teams. A good teams can use one or two of those phases of their team to pick up one if that part of their team is struggling and thats what happened yesterday. The offense was horrible but the other 2 phases to the team (esp. defense) picked up the slack. I hope this was a wake-up call to the cocky grossman, who I love, that this game is about adjustments. You cant be so naive to think that if you stick to one thing that it will eventually work out. The bears are a run first team but because of the success of grossman we all forgot that! The cards had a great plan in place on defense and that was to play the pass. That was the first time a team has played us against the pass instead of rush. SO what did we do?! Pass pass pass grossman has to check down into runs instead of playing into the strength of the defense. I think this game was good for the bears. It put them back to reality and taught them that the offense can be stopped if you dont follow the game plan that you claim to say that the bears are a running time. I couldnt tell last night. Go Bears!
Rex played terrible last night, and to think this game's outcome would have been different if he would have hit Berrian on the first play. You have to expect some peaks and valleys with Rex. Remember he still is, in essence, a rookie QB. Everyone loves him when things are going well but when he has a bad game people start to hate him just ike the pre-season. The whole team looked flat last night and I think that, even though they won, this game is a wake-up call to a team that needs to play every game like its their last. The running game once again was nonexistant and T. Jones might want to learn to take a tackler head on instead of dancing as soon as he gets the ball. The D made great plays at the end to steal this game and Urlacher showed why he is the best deffensive player by taing over the 4th quarter. All in all the Bears shouldn't have won this game but great teams find ways to win tough games. Also let's not throw Rex under the bus. He will learn from this game which should help him mature. remember after the Vikes game he learned from his mistakes and went out and lit up the Seahawks so he will bounce back.
The Chicago Bears are the most overrated team in the NFL. Let us take a look inside their "magical" 6-0 season.
Combined record of opponents: 12-21
5 of the Bears 6 opponents rank in the bottom half of the NFL in scoring.
5 of the 6 Bears opponents rank in the bottom half of overall team defense.
When you look at their remaining schedule...it is hard to come up with anything worse than 13-3....no way is this a Super Bowl team though. There are at least 4 teams in the NFC that are better than these Bears.
Enjoy it while it lasts ...
Mark it down...these Bears, Your Bears.... are overrated!!!
The Bears’ road to Super Bowl XLI.?! I think it is wise to say that it goes through the 49er's for now! Talk about putting the cart before the carrot! Fans need to relax and enjoy the season as it unfolds. If you want to talk about the Super Bowl and the Bears in the same story for now refer to the 85 Bears! Let's just see them win the division, then a playoff game then we can seriously start talking Super Bowl! I would say that goes for the players even more so!
The Bears are just an average team at best. The team had been very fortunate until now. You can bet that the Bears' "Achilles Heal" was exposed last night and the rest of the NFL took note. I predicting a disappointing 8/8 season with no post season invitation. Also, Bears'fans get ready for another "quarterback controversy" as Rex "Orton" caves under the pressure of blitzing defenses. I'm glad we have Brian Griese in the wings to keep the season at 500.
To be completely honest, the Bears got lucky. They played one of the worst franchises in the history of sport by one point and if they play a team with a defense as good as the Cardinals they are done. Rex Grossman looked like a backup JV quarterback and come playoff time, they're cooked, six turnovers won't work on a big stage
The Bears have a history of
falling on their faces on Monday night, That includes the great 85 team!
Was this a wake up call?
You bet, They showed that the defense is tops in the league. And They got it done! Rex was harrased all night and the O-Line forgot how to block? He should have gone for the under neath stuff that Arizona was willing to give, I am sure Rex learned something last night and it will pay off in the future.I am also sure this team learned that to be the best is a team effort! GO BEARES!!!!!!!
Let me say this AGAIN. Grossman showed what he was made of last night. Any QB in the NFL can play well when they have a 20 point lead.
I don't think the coaching staff should be given too much credit for this one. The Bears got lucky to have a series of breaks go their way. The onside kick attempt after the opening drive of the second half netted three points was a serious mistake. At the time it was only 20-3. That kick, combined with the roughing the kicker penalty, gave the Cardinals three easy points that altered all of the Bears' options in the fourth quarter. With the Bears defense playing very solidly, there was no need to panic. I still think the Bears are the best team in the league, but they have to stop getting so overconfident and the coaches have to exhibit better game management. Mike Shanahan and Bill Belicheck would never have made that call.
If the bears had Greise or a good quarterback for their number one qb, the bears would be the team that everyone is thinking that they are. Good luck Bears.
The Monday night game showed us a few things about our Bears. First, when the defense has their back to the wall they are going to make the plays we need them too. Secondly, though it showed our reliance on the passing game far too much. Lovie has repeatedly said this is a running team. Rex is successful when we can go play action which can only work with a good running game. If you go back and look at the stats we threw the ball 37 times and ran it 12. That is not very good balance. While I realize we were playing catch up for most of the game we cannot simply abandon the run. As we begin to face better and better teams the more one dimensonal we become the easier we are to defend. Hopefully, this loss serves as a wake up call to the team that they aren't as good as they think they are. Hopefully, Rex has his bad game out of his system. But I hope most of all we return to the balanced offense that we were successful with in the first few weeks of the season. It's scary to think what the final score would have been if we had had even a semi competent offense out on the field.
You have to give the Crads credit. They played tough until the end.The BEARS just wanted it more.I'm worried more about the injuries. This was the hardest the Cards played all year.We would not be denied.Rex had an off game.HESTER is My HERO.Without him and The D we would be 5-1.What A team effort. That said,Go BEARS!!
I believe that coaches Smith, Turner and Rivera should bear the
brunt of the blame for the poor
showing by the Bears offense, defense and special teams. They
simply did not have the players
ready to play - and they should have known or guessed that the
Cardinal players and ccoaches
would be pumped. The Bears have
played Dennis Green's teams sev-
eral times in the past and they
should have known what he is
capable of. After getting their butts handed to them in the first half, halftime should have
been used to make adjustments,
especially by the offense. It
didn't happen and the Bears
were lucky to the two fumble
runbacks and the punt runback
to bail them out. Needless to
say, the Bears remaining opponents will be studying film
of this game to see exactly how the Cardinals handled the Bears.
Will the Bears learn from this game? Keep watching and listen-
ing to find out
Is it safe to compare our '06 Bears to the unforgettable force of our '85 Bears? No. Even after winning our first 5 games in such a convincing fashion, I did not feel that the comparison was warranted. Am I enjoying the ride of our '06 season thus far? Of course I am. But people, lets get real here...we have a long season ahead of us and its a bit early in the game to even make mention of a Super Bowl Championship. That being said, I absolutely expected the NFL, the media and the Bears "fans" to jump off the ever-growing banwagon. One horrific performance and suddenly we're over-rated. True, our offense failed to show up...true, our special teams waited till the last few minutes of the game to pull a much needed rabbit out of their hats. But lets not forget, we play as a TEAM. And just as a TEAM is supposed to do - we pick up the slack when our teammates are "off". Our defense pulled off this victory for us - just as I knew they would have to if we were going to leave Arizona at 6-0. For 5 beautiful weeks we've been basking in the glory of our greatness. And after one horrific game, we utter words like "luck" & "over-rated"? How sad that we are so quick to jump on the banwagon and even quicker to jump off of it. I have been a fan since I was a little girl...always will be. A true fan remains realistic and supportive of their team through all of its imperfections. I do believe that a "wake-up call" was needed for all of those making predictions of a perfect season...we need not under-estimate our opponent ever again. But we also need not bash our Bears for being less than perfect...WELL, other than our perfect record, that is!
The defense bailed us out. But it also was the defense that put us in the hole to begin with when they couldn't stop a rookie QB. Did the defensive backs take the night off? QBs, like pitchers, sometimes have a bad day. When a pitcher has a bad day, the manager puts in a reliever. Why didn't Smith put Griese in when it was obvious that it was not Grossman's night? If Smith felt that leaving him in would build his confidence, there's a good chance that just the opposite is true. You should never let the starter get beaten to a pulp in either baseball or football.
Good teams have bad games, it's as simple as that. Grossman played horrible, no bear fan will dispute that. With a good defense, it shouldn't be up to Grossman all the time anyway. Where was the run? On the road, you've got to tighten the reigns a bit, let the game come to you. Arizona had a bead on Grossman all night because the Bears just kept throwing. Grossman is a much better QB when play action is involved. I think he has a great future in store, but no QB (except maybe P. Manning) plays well when the defense knows he is going to throw. When our offense remains balanced we are dangerous, if it doesn't...well we all saw what can happen. 6-0 with nine to go!! Da Bears!

I'm glad to see this happen now rather in the play offs as last year. Hopefully Rex will get coached up and the receivers will come back to the ball and not wait for the pass to get to them. Also the Cardinals did the same offense that beat the Bears in last years play off game. I'm sure all the coaches know that they need to continue to get the players better. I't was an exciting game.
Grossman will be fine. You do not put up the numbers he did in weeks 1-5 with smoke and mirrors. He had a bad game plain and simple. It happens to the best of them. Now two weeks to work on some things and we will roll on. The good part was we had PLENTY of open recievers in this game and we were able to run a little.Offensivly things just snow balled from bad to worst. Grossman is mentally tuff and will no doubt bounce back. We will have to hear crap from critics for 2 WEEKS but hey, we deserve it. We layed an egg of sorts but, we are 6-0 period. Lienert looked very good but, when we have 1 on 1 match up's with our lineman on defense we need to win that battle which was not always the case on monday. Lets stay positive and not start the "I told you so b.s." The bears are a very good team and will show it in the coming weeks.

This is a game the Bears should have lost. I wonder who (if anyone) deserved the game ball. Maybe Devin Hester.
I think Rex let the "Monday Night Football" jitters get to him. It is a big show and he looked nervous from the beginning. His throws were mostly off his back foot while he suffered from stage fright. I believe this was a one time deal and he will bounce back. He definitely has the talent. He just needs the experience. And the Defense did what has made them famous. Make plays. Good job and make use of the time off to rest and review. Go Bears.
"Impending doom?" please bear in mind this is a team that slaughtered Seattle, shut out Green Bay (and should have shut out Buffalo) and pulled out a come-from-behid victory over two solid, underrated teams. You don't need to have watched the game to know Rex had a bad one; for all the naysayers carping about how Lovie Smith called a bad game--if Smith had the ability to control Rex's brain, making him bypass sure completions underneath in favor of throwing 6 long balls directly to Arizona defenders, maybe then we'd have something to talk about. (Now, please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Turner at least have a hand in play calling? Isn't it funny that Rex is always responsible for how great the Bears play, but Lovie is always at fault for how poorly they play?) We're talking Monday Night Football, not Madden '07.
Much like the recent play of a certain Packer he is often compared to, Rex forced a bunch of very, very bad throws tonight against a defense with a good line and good safeties. To be fair, Muhummad dropped a couple (and Berrian should have taken that first long bomb all the way to the house), but that 4th quarter pick when Rex elected to throw at Berrian right in the middle of three Cardinals when he had Jones wide open in the flat (with plenty of room to improvise to a first down) was downright bad play. The offensive line didn't play MVP-caliber ball either, but come on, people--Rex was only sacked twice, and both times he coughed up the ball like it was covered in axle grease.
This game was certainly bad news for the Bears, but to say (as "Ken" did) that they have no offensive talent is laughably stupid. It's not like this is the 6th game the defense won this season--it's the first. Yeah, all these field goals and blown red zone opportunities are getting really, really old--but the kinds of plays Rex has been making this season (and bear in mind I am and continue to be a Rex-basher) you don't make unless you've got talent. There's no reason why he shouldn't wake up by the 29th (and maybe we'll have Bradley back by then); time will tell, of course, but people should really stop calling for Griese and just let the bears play ball.
Oh--not that anyone was saying this, but may I just say that Brian Urlacher has officially killed any iota of possibility that he was, is, or ever will be "overrated?" And that Devin Hester is the real deal? And that the Bears should take some serious interest in Philip Buchanon, injuries and all?
Every team destined for greatness goes through a game like this. We should all be talking about the Brian Urlacher show. Grossman is smart enough to know that another performance like this and all the warm fuzzies about him will go bye bye. But the performance by Urlacher proved that without him, the Bears go nowhere.
I have to blame the poor offensive game planning for this debacle. Thomas Jones only had 11 carries!!?! I know Arizona has a good run defense, but should'nt you attack their strength. I also understand that players must execute, but Rex is still a young quarterback and should'nt be put in a position to fail.
The Bears D choked last night against a rookie QB.
Shut down defense? I think not. Reasonable to think that the same thing could happen against a McNabb or Steve Smith in the playoffs. Which puts the focus squarely on Rex Grossman. He will simply have to elevate his game the rest of the year and into the postseason. Don't think for a second that we're gonna win giving up six turnovers again. Go Bears.
We have all been wondering, Have the Bears peaked to soon?
This was their miracle game. Every great team has one game where they have to come back and win in the end. This was it for the bears. All of the games are not going to be blowouts. With that said, I was mad at the offense last night. Not only Grossman, but the whole offense. They did not show up. You name it, they looked horrible at it. But I am happy for the win. The offense played like crap, but they still pulled it out. I was jumping in front of my TV last night after Hester's return! I knew the game was over after that. Even when the Cards lined up for the fg, I knew he would miss it. Wow! I just glad they have a bye week after this so they can get rid of "bad Rex" once and for all. We don't need him to resurface again. Look too much like Cade McNown. But did you see Brian Urlacher (B Lac)?! He was playing like a mad man last night. He basicly willed the Bears to victory last night. He proved that he is still the MVP of this team. The press seemed to be more focused on how well Matt Lienart played though.
HOW COME NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT THE FORGOTTEN RUNNING GAME. AFTER THE MISSED BOMB THERE WERE NOT 3 RUNNING PLAYS IN A ROW THE WHOLE GAME. THEY NEVER SETTLED DOWN AND RAN THE BALL. THROW PICK THROW FUMBLE THROW PICK ITS JUST PLAIN STUPID.
Messrs. Slack and Clarke seem to overlook the fact that the defense (1) only gave up two touchdowns; (2) later held the Cards to fieldgoals when they had the ball (what, 4 times?) in the Bear's territory, and (3) came up with two touchdown scoring defensive turnovers when they had to. Are there any other defenses in the NFL that could do that when they absolutely needed to? Probably not. To state that they're average is not only wrong, but flat-out ignorant. As far as the Bears finishing 8 and 8, the only words that comes to mind are ones that Roman probably won't let me post, so we'll leave it at that.
i think the bears on talent leverl right now where their attitudes and thoughts will control if they succeed or fail, Rex grossman especially. Everyone has got an image of what it is to be anything and that is always less better than being it on a totally unique level. So to grossman i say forget about being anything at all like bret farve and just be a smart quarterback.
Bears way overrated! Like Steve Young said ,Edge's fumble should have been blown dead. Talk all you want Bear fans, but you will be sitting with us in front of the TV when the two REAL best teams meet in the Super Bowl.Enjoy will it last.
DA BEARS!! THEY WOULDN'T BE DA BEARS IF THEY DIDN'T HAVE A GAME LIKE LAST NITE IN THE DESERT. EVEN IN '85 THEY KEPT US ON THE EDGE OF OUR SEATS DURING A FEW GAMES.THIS TYPE OF GAME WAS NEEDED. WHY? TO SET THE STAGE FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON..TO MAKE ALL OF THEIR FUTURE OPPONENTS THINK TWICE ABOUT HOW TO HANDLE A TEAM OF DESTINY!
DA BEARS OF '06...A TEAM THAT ON MONDAY NITE, OCTOBER 16TH TOOK A LICKING BUT KEPT ON TICKING. NOW..PASS ME SOME MORE ORANGE & BLUE KOOL AIDE!
FRANK LEE STREAMWOOD,IL.
I thought the Monday Night Curse was in full swing last night, but I think we beat it!! No, they didn't look great, but they won! Every game can't be perfect nor a blowout. Be happy and show it for the first time in 20 years! I am!! GO BEARS!!
URLACHER URLACHER URLACHER URLACHER...just in case anyone neglects to give credit where credit is due. While Rex was wallowing in self pity and Turner couldn't find his running playbook, Urlacher decided that the Bears weren't going to go the path of 2001 or 05. He was Zeus, throwing thunderbolts and leading his demigod defense like a pack of pitbulls. Instead of obsessing on Rex, we should be praising Urlacher.
Sure the Cardinals let this game get away from them big time, but I still think the Bears are damn good. If we can win playing that bad on offense, it makes anything seem possible. Because there is no way we'll play that bad on offense again.
And I didn't see Leinart having an oustanding game. He did OK. But the starting field position he had was phenomenal. He actually should have led his team to 10 more points. Stll a pretender in my eyes.
And what was with all the announcers talking about how arizona has really turned it around this year? B/c of the stadium? They were 1-4, now they're 1-5;
Saying Da Bears lack the offensive talent to be considered a team destined for greatness is laughably stupid - good point "darryl m". A simple review of the 2006 statistics bears that out. This offensive juggernaut averages less yards per play from scrimmage than the mighty Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins.... exactly average with respect to all the offenses in the league. They rank in the lower half of the league in first downs per game. The vaunted running attack is the 4th worst in the NFL in yards per carry. Total yards per game is a heady 13th... one worse than the Minnesota Vikings but take heart, its one better than the 49ers. No doubt this is an elite squad destined for greatness.
If memory serves, this is the same offense that was considered impotent in 2005 and with the exception of a 2nd string qb had no off-season additions. Is it not the hallmark of dementia to approach a problem in the same way and expect a different solution? Oh yes... Rex is installed as the new, improved starter and with a rating of 82.1 is hot on the heels of giants like Bruce Gradowski and Matt Lienhart. The good news is that he has a commanding .2 lead over Kurt Warner.
How could anyone contend that this is an offense that lacks the talent to rank with the greats?
Grossman played horrible and the play calling was just as bad.
Again though, this is why it is a TEAM sport and not one contingent solely on offense. Anyone that expected Grossman wasn't going to have a game like this was dreaming. He's still a rookie, essentially.
Although I've got to say that Jay Mariotti is way too harsh on this team. This city finally has something to cheer about and what do we have but Mariotti complaining that comparisons to the '85 bears are not valid because of last nights performance.
Hey! This years team has only allowed 59 points in 6 games. The '85 team allowed 98 points in 6 games.
Yes, lets stop with the '85 comparisons. But not for Mariotti reasons about how pathetic these bears are to their elite forefathers. GET OFF IT MARIOTTI!
These Bears are unique in their own right. They're still a young team that is in the process of discovering its full chemistry and potential. There are going to be bumps and bruises along the way. Let go of the hypercriticism and BREATHHHHHHE.
These Bears may not be the shufflin crew, but hell, they're 6-0 by either dominating teams or finding ways to win. They can only get better as time progresses.
I'm still with you Bears!
Who cares how they won, THEY WON!!!! Quit looking the gift horse in the mouth and ride the wave. I hate when people always look for the worst to happen.
You guys sound like a bunch of Cubs fans!
Correction...it was the Bears D and Grossman who looked like the pretenders last night. The Bears came in looking like the bully of the NFC...thought they were the best team in football since everyone was singing their praises. When Arizona stood up and smacked them in the mouth to start the game, the Bears looked completely lost. They were outplayed and outcoached for 3 quarters. Quick reality check for you, the Bears brass would take Leinart over Grossman 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. We're still waiting for the next great Bears quarterback...these guys are not the '85 Bears...not even close.
You people sicken me! You're the first to put Rex up on a pedestal even though he is basically a rookie and will make rookie mistakes. But to throw him under the bus now makes no sense. He has two weeks to work on the fundamentals and get back to where he was the FIRST FIVE GAMES. Unless you're a QB in the NFL, just be quiet and be happy they won. Quit looking for something to complain about...no one wants to hear.
It was becasue of Lovie's adjustments at halftime the team was able to comeback and steal this game. Lovie is an excellent coach, as was reflected in the second half.
When you look back at this game, the only person that really played bad was Grossman. That's it. All we have to do to fix that is run the ball more. And if worse comes to worse, insert Griese. Problem solved.
Hey - this talk about whether the Bears have the talent to match the 85 team misses da point. This team has heart, will give 100% effort for 60 minutes and refuses to accept defeat, even when a superior talent would count them out. How many teams can you say that about today?
For my money, I wouldn't trade that kind of passion and will to win for some other team that ranks higher and has better stats than these imperfect Bears.... Go Bears!
The bears are still #1 w/me. Even though the offense was horrible, the defense did the job and the bears are 6-0. I cant believe the comments from dennis green. He said that is what he expected of the bears and that they let us off of the hook. Remember this mr. green, that is why you are 1-5 and the bears are 6-0.
To address a couple of the points made:
1. The Bears are overrated because the combined record of their opponents is 12-21.
Um, a big reason for the lopsided record is that the Bears opponents have played six games against the Bears. The more relevant number is the opponents' 12-15 record against the rest of the league. The thrashing of the otherwise undefeated Seahawks, and the victory over a tough Vikings team in Minnesota are certainly quality wins.
2. Grossman showed what he was made of last night. Any QB in the NFL can play well when they have a 20 point lead.
Okay, how do you think the Bears got those 20 point leads? Did Grossman have anything to do with it?
3. The Bears will finish 8-8.
A team that's gone 16-2 in the regular season since week 5 of 2005 is going to go 2-8 the rest of the way? Please.
4. Edge should have been ruled down on the fumble.
No, you're not automatically down just because forward progress has been stalled. If so, there would be no such thing as a 'second effort'.
Peace
This game reminded me of the pasting Atlanta took from New Orleans a couple of weeks ago. As a Chicagoan living in Tucson, AZ, I can say I haven't seen Cardinals fans that revved up since their playoff year in '98 (I think, '98...).
The Cards came out pumped and the Bears came out fat and lazy. Grossman looked almost flippant at the beginning, then looked as if the pressure was getting to him.
But to see that defense just 'bear down' and take the game away, that's what I'm taking from this game. No defense/special teams should be able to steal a game like that, and they did. This reminds me of 2001, except I was watching the TV not wondering whether the D would come up with a miracle, but almost expecting it...
The Bears got the wrong team at the wrong time, best game the Cards will play all year (I know, I have to watch them every week). I was astonished at how pumped they were. And still, the Bears came through. On the road. No doom here, I have to say I'm impressed beyond belief.
Yeah, Grossman made some horrible throws, but it also looked to me as if the offensive line was not protecting him as well as they usually do, and that he was often hurried. He was having a really hard time with the pass rush. I agree with the other commenters that the Bears should have run the ball more to take some pressure off Grossman. I thought the coaching staff made some other boneheaded moves as well. The pooch kick to the 40 yard line wasn't too smart, and neither was going for it on 4th and 10. We were very lucky that the ensuing turnover and touchdown was called back. In fact, I thought the Bears were toast at that point, and turned off the radio. It was only after I wandered by the TV at work just in time to see Hester return the punt did I change my mind. Still, they let Leinart march down the field, and only a choke by the kicker saved our butts. From what I've read, Grossman is an avid student of the game, and I think he'll learn from his mistakes and step up big after this one.
The game showed that this team could use some head tweaking, but it has no problem with heart.
William you're right. The Cards did play hard last night. You could tell they really game planned well. But the game would have been completely different if Rex would've connected on that first deep ball. That would've took the air out from the get go. But Rex had a bad night. People that are already saying that the Bears are overated need to get a life. If they were overated they wouldn't have had the grit to come back and win. They played like crap for 3 qtrs and still won. They had 6 turnovers and still won. And all on the road. I can go on and on. Plus the Cards brought their A game! You could tell the Cards were determined to knock off the Bears. And Denny Green's " There are who we thought they were!" speil was crap too. If that was the case, your team would've won. Just making himself look more pathetic. His team came in with a game plan, they watched film, they played their best ball, forced 6 turnovers, and still lost. They are what we thought they were? He probably will be looking for a job at the end of the season while the Bears are contending for a Championship!
Was this a horrible game? Absolutely. Were there some mistakes made? Yes. Is this the apocolypse and the end of the Bears' season and Grossman's career? No...
Some of you "fans" that post on here make me want to vomit, you make the rest of us Bears fans look really bad... They are winning and you're either singing Grossman and the Bears' praises, they ALMOST lose one game and all of a sudden Grossman needs to be benched for Griese again and the Bears are overrated... if the Bears win it all this year, next year, or whenever I do not want to be celebrating next to the likes of you. To the rest of the loyal, intelligent Bears fans, I'll be here enjoying the ride.
Thanks for the gift, Arizona.
Last night was the best of both worlds:
1) The Bears won the game and are a perfect 6-0. Coolness
2) The Bears got a (much needed) wake-up call.
Back in the day, when I started getting too cocky and full-of-myself, my Mother would complain that I was "getting too big for my britches." I think that's exactly what has been happening with the Bears over the past couple of weeks. I think all these stories about undefeated seasons and comparisons to the '85 team went to their heads and led them to forget that you still have to PLAY the games.
This is a perfect scenario because the team now has 2 weeks to stew in the stink of a horribly played game. 2 weeks for the coaches to get in their faces and remind them that they haven't done anything yet. 2 weeks to study film, learn from their mistakes, and make adjustments.
One thing I must mention however: We tend to look at 1985 like the Bears blew everyone out of the water every week and that simply isn't the case. I remember one game in particular -- I think it was the second game against Green Bay -- at Lambeau. It was an ugly, slow-moving, mess of a game that the Bears won 16-10. I also seem to recall some other squeakers that year as well. My point is that, even in a championship season, there are going to be some ugly games. Lets enjoy the fact that we stole one and expect the Bears to come back after the bye with a new (and hungrier) attitude.
Say what you will but I'll take an embarassing win over an embarassing loss any day!
Go Bears!!!
I didn't read all of the above comments, but I have noticed a disturbing trend that is easy to fix. So far the offense has used the long pass to set up everything else. They need to start running the ball more early in the game to bring the safety in the box. Then play action off of that. The coaching staff seemed to panic once it was 7-0.
They had to know the emotion was high and the pressure would be on from the Cards. They blitzed well. The best way to stop that is by power running, and an occasional screen play.
Lovie keeps preaching about being a running team. He needs to make sure there is more than ONE rushing attempt on the road in the first quarter. Say Bears ran for 5 plays. That is 5 fewer plays that there would have been an int, or a fumble. Arizona would not have scored again on a long field. Everyone drives the ball a decent amount for some reason on their first drive. Then the defense settles in, and controls from there on out.
Bottom line.....run the ball to set up the pass. I would like to see a stubborness to keep running. We are going to need it down the road. Trust me.
For the record, I am siked that they found a way to win. Hopefully, they can show rex on tape that he had plenty of checkdown options on his ints. They wouldn't have gotten many yards, but at least you have a chance to get a 1st on a check down.
RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!
GO BEARS!!
The cover-2 is a great defense between the 20's. After that it's up to the defensive backs to play man to man. That is the weakness of the Bears D. Carolina exposed it last year in the playoffs and Green used the shotgun, playaction and a moving pocket to exploit it on Monday Night.
Rex started to read his press clippings and thought that just throwing the ball up would be enough. He'll need a little more seasoning and a better running game to survive the season. I would adapt the Cardinals offensive approach in the future. The lack of disguise on the short slants and overthrows on playaction were the reason for their lack of success on offense. The run/pass ratio was way out of wack but that might have been due to comming from behind. In the future 3 and out, for whatever reason, won't get it done. Rex, Lovie, Turner..are you listening?
Indeed, "The Bears are who we thought they were". In addition, "The Cards are who we knew they were."
If the Bears are to succeed in the future, the offense and defense will need to be a little less predictable. How about a little 4-6 defense for a change-up? How about a few more flags for defensive pass interference?
Some of you guys treat the Bears like they're 5 yr olds playing soccer where everything is fine all the time. These guys are supposed to be men and are making millions. When they aren't doing their job they need to hear about it. We fans are pumping plenty of cash into the system so they can live in their bling filled mansions. None of you fair weather fans has the right to tell any other fan not to express how they feel about the team they love.. Most of you are just spewing stats or stroking your favorite player or coach. That isn't what football is about.
Roman responds: Ok guys, we need to keep this on topic. It's not about personality clashes between bloggers. Thanks.
Susan is right! It was beautiful watching the Urlacher Show! He was Jordanesque in the 4th Quarter! Urlacher - Game Ball Baby! And in the language of the post Matrix Trilogy lest not forget "MR. ANDERSON" who was HUGE, forcing that fumble. Sherhlacker and "Mr. Anderson" looked like Mike and Scottie in Utah! They came up big on the big stage. I WILL COMPARE THE 2006 BEARS TO THE 85 TEAM UNTIL THEY LOSE 2 GAMES!!! Then and ONLY then will I get off the bandwagon! 06 Bears have almost EVERY phrase of football figured out. 1. Defense 2. Coaching 3. Offense 4. Special Teams And we can beat you Running the Ball, Passing, Kicking, Punt returning, and oh yes - with a stifling Defense! Even the 85 Bears didn't have all of that. We had a GREAT 85 team with memorable personalities, but we NEVER had it like we have it now. This team even has a great attitude. Many of you listened to folks in the Media and missed the Whitesox run! NOT MEEEEE! I never stopped believing, and the Sox did the Rest. DAH-Bareszzz are going to knock that doubt right off your faces like they did all of those Matt Lienert grovellers on Monday Night!! Folks have more faith in him than PERFECT BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! KD

Ok, right on topic. To me, impending doom is not making or advancing in the playoffs. With a 6-0 record we'd better make it to the playoffs. Monday's game validated just about everything I've been talking about since last season. We still have these problems. Unless corrected we will get thumped in the payoffs. If we get better, make the playoffs, win a game or two but fall short, I can live with that as long as we played our best. But to keep doing the same stupid things and remain oblivious to the obvious problems we have, I won't tolerate that. At this point I still don't think Lovie will solve the problems.
I don't know how it happened..and I admit I gave up on my team-Da Bears! I thought the Cardinals really played like champions...But i got up extra early on Tuesday to see the results of the Mayhem...and almost had a heart attack when i found out that Da Bears! Won by a point! Well needless to say...i was late efor work waiting to see the highlights on Sports Center. So is this a good thing i thought...the way they Won...oh hell no! Rex Grossman should be flogged for his antics on the field...and should pay the defense's wages out of his pocket! Is this a sign of doom? I only pray that its not!
Wow we live in a knee-jerk reaction world don't we? I don't think it's luck at all the bears won. The defense (specificly B-Lac) took this game over. They forced those fumbles for TDs, they made the stops when they absolutely had to. That to me shows great balance. Sometimes the offense isn't going to click. Sometimes Rex Grossman is going to play bad. Defenses are too good now to just let an offense run up and down the field every game. I mean even Peyton Manning had a couple of bad games THIS YEAR! You don't hear their fans, or local sport writers bashing them already. And the Colts can't even stop the run. My point is, the Bears aren't going to play the perfect game all season. Sometimes the defense will have to win it, and just maybe, the offense may have to bail the defense out one day.For those of you thinking that the Bears ar going to fail in the Playoffs because of all their so-called flaws; how about waiting until the playoffs and we'll see how they'll do. All I'm saying is, just because the Bears played 3 bad qtrs of football, does not mean it's time to call out the bash brothers! We won the damn football game! That's all that should matter.
Let me not ruffle any feathers.I'm disappointed that the D had to save the day.Rex had a day like I never really expected. He even brought MG out of hiding.I never saw Rex play this bad before so I can't say that this is a repeat performance. The D winning the game wasn't exactly ordinary. But in the fashion it took,I can see why some fans are down, somewhat.I can't say that the coaches didn't expect this game to go the way it did. They knew it would be an extremely hard-fought battle.Anyone who ever stood on top of the mountain knows that they are coming hard to knock you off.And to a lot of people, the BEARS are on top.Plain and simple, the Cards reached down inside themselves and played like the wanted to knock us off the mountain. The only shame is that that team can't play like that every game.If they did they wouldn't be 1-4.The crowd was rowdy and really set the tempo for their team. They were just denied by a team that would not quit.Who can incite their team to come out with a 20-0 halftime deficit and chip away until they won.Arizona couldn't win it for Denny, but The BEARS won it for Lovie.Often I've heard people say that they're gonna quit on Lovie soon enough. If they wanted to the could've done it then.We fans can look at these guys and say they almost lost. They look at each other and say they won it together.Every battle have small victories. That's how you win wars. The BEARS don't have to read papers and blogs to know that they are winning.Man to man, they feel it where it counts for them;in their hearts. They feel they have the heart and no A$$ whooping without a victory is gonna bring them down. And don't for a second believe they aren't smarting about this.I'm sure they are gonna learn from this. Some people are just optimistic and some aren't.Don't try to change how we feel about this team.I wouldn't have a clue on how to change a non-believer.I can only enjoy watching this season progress.Win or lose I'm gonna be in their corner trying to be the eternal optimist. This team isn't perfect. And I can speak of no team I've ever seen who was. Those rose-colored glasses for 85 sometimes distort the vision for 06.Some of you can believe in your own way,but don't rag on mine. We're suppose to be BEARS'fans. Not fair weather fans.We have ten more games left in the season.I'm gonna enjoy them all,as a fan.Come on,we're 6-0.First time in 20 years.Man,why not be happy about that? That said,GO BEARS!!!!
Please don't include my comments about seeing Griese come in in this game as a dig against Rex.I just didn't think he had it for THIS game.Long haul it has to be Rex.Everyone has a bad game. With him,it just looked worst because he had no spark. And all the plays run through him. This game was an "off" for the whole offense.I just wanted to win,by any means necessary. That said,GO BEARS!!!
I agree with jermaine, the bears created those turnovers and capitalized on them. The offense is not always going to look great and the defense picked up the slack. Rex is still learning and he will bounce back. He knows what he did on monday and I'm sure he and turner will get back on track. Thats what beaing a team is all about, when one part of your game is not performing well the rest of the team needs to pick up the slack and that is what the defense and special teams did on monday.
I'm not the type to take a wait and see if we fail approach. I see the problems now and would fix them very quickly if I had the power. Pointing them out is my only option. I wish I could do more. I "guarantee", yeah that's right, the Bears will not win the SB if they head into the playoffs without fixing the problems. They probably won't even make it to Miami. I'll let you know after the regular season if they are fixed or not. I've heard a lot of the "we found a way to win" over the Cards talk. If the Cards would have made that FG and then we drove down and kicked one to win the game or if we would have blocked it, then yes I would agree. But a rookie QB pushed our big shot D down the field and got into FG range. The kicker just missed it. We did not block it. That is pure luck, nothing else. I'm as happy as anyone with the win but come on folks, let’s stop misinterpreting what happens.
How many of us have "bad" days at work? I know,we all don't make millions and don't play games for a career , still doesn't mean we all are perfect. Was it even a decent effort, hell no ,but we won because other aspects of this team stood up and willed us to win. Yes the cardinals choked and had bad play calls(before all you lovie bashers call for his head look at their play calls) but it still took our D's playmakers to take charge. One thing that worries me is the Brown injurie. Now that can mean doom if guys don't step up but after that monday night game a lot of confidense is brewing among teammates.
DOOOM! The Bears lost the MVP of the team in Mike Brown.
Say what you will about team leaders, it will show once the Bears find themselves losing again when it counts most, like last years playoofs. Mike Brown aint around so forget about the crown!
wonder how many greenbay packer fans blogged this week? you fair weather chicago sports fans are all the same, you suffer from short term memory!!! i game out of six? and your ready to throw my belove bears under the bus, heart and determination win's championships folks, and we have it, the most dangerous teams are of the below .500 varity, they have nothing to lose and mix in the media expecting them to lose by double digits, is enough to make any team play there best game. no team is at the top of their game every week, give them a break or watch another team.
You know what ticks me off? The media seems to be focused on Matt Leinart. " Well the Cardinals lost but Matt leinart played great!" I really don't see it that way. I mean he certainly played better than Grossman, but he just executed the gameplan they drew up for him specificly for the Bears. Quick 3 step drops, and dink and dunk his way down the field. He did it the whole first half. I'm not taking anything away from him, but I don't even remember him challeging the Bears with a deep ball. All short passes, with 3 step drops to avoid pressure. Not to mention, Tommie Harris was being held the whole game. No one is talking about the the monster game Urlacher had, or this Devin Hester kid. All I hear from the national media is..."what a game Matt Leinard had!" But I told you guys that I was weary of Arizona. They heard all week how the Bears were going to come to the desert and kill them. They were dangerous because they were struggling, motivated by the disrespect from the media, and Denny Green's hatred for the bears. The Bears were taken a bit off guard at first, but then they rallied. Like champions do. I bet they won't take the 49ers lightly. I bet. I like Lovie Smith's class. He didn't even get in a war of words with Denny. When someone asked him what he felt about Denny's tirade, he just said look, you don't play 45 minutes of good football and expect to win the game. You have to play a full 60 minutes to put it lightly. But I can tell he didn't take Denny's jab at the Bears kindly. But everyone is acting like the Bears lost the game, and I am proud of this win like all the others. This Team has a heart of a champion, and they will be hard to beat.
Looked to me like the bears were out coached, out toughed and outplayed for almost the whole game. Without a missed 40 yarder they lose to the cardinals!!!!!!!!!! this is supposed to be an elite superbowl team??? come on. Wait till they play a tough team, like steelers last year, or a quick team like the panthers last year, or a well coached team, or a hungry team (vikings). Bears were exposed big time, big hype, big heads, big let down coming again. I hoped they'd get serious after the panthers embarrassed them, but they seem happy with themselves. Too bad, they could make a run at it if they ever got their heads on straight, that's the coaches job isnn't it?
Tele makes a good point.
Hey,guys. You do know that after all is said and done;WE WON the game.I think the coaches kept the player's head in the game long enough for them to pull it out.Everyone knows that as long as we win at home and lose only a few that the train comes thru Soldiers' Field.Winners win by any means. When you get through the season and look back no one says how close they came to losing games. They only see they won the games. Some of you guys wanna predict doom and gloom so you can say I told you so.I remember when Roman asked to make the season pridictions that some of you guys said that they would be 8-8 or worse. Some of you said we'd be losers because of the coaching or because Rex would be a loser like he was during preseason. You're gonna have to wait a while longer to get your satisfaction in saying you told us so.Even great teams lose to 2-6 teams. Can't win them all.No one has ever gone 19-0.One loss wouldn't kill us.But some of you guys are taking one WIN too hard. That said.GO BEARS!!
Okay never mind what I said yesterday.GO BEARS!!
We always do.
You know what "genius" you never come up with a gameplan or anything original. You harp on the same thing win in or win not.You give NO imput only doom and gloom.Who agrees with anything you ever say?
Ask yourself how great teams are when their leaders TAKE the opposing players to dinner.ON THEM!!Blame to level of mental competition on the competitors.I always skip what you say so just skip what I say and save your sage comments for people who care.Next time don't say "we" because I seem to be the only person you keep the running commentary for! You're the only one whose opinion you care about or like-minded people in regard to any situation.Blow it out your BBB.GO BEARS!!!
William... you must be joking. We've been through this. You, yes YOU are the one always picking at everything I say. And your posts are full of speculation you seem to think is fact. You ask why I harp on the same thing. Here's why... because that is the problem. Was then, is now. Guys buying lunch means nothing. Just who should I send my game plan to William? I don't work for free. Where is my check? You say you skip what I say. You haven't missed a chance to criticize anything I've said all season. Who are you to say others write a book. You spew far more crap than anyone. Again William, you must be joking. Wait a minute, I get it now. You ARE joking. Oh you're good, you got me!
Who is gonna pay you to say "you make a good point"so and so.That's all you ever do.You never make any observations that everyone else can't already see.You only agree with someone when they down something. You have never been positive about much. You talk about the coach being wrong but you never add what would make things right. You don't even give constructive critism. You just say they need to change. What need to change?who can blame a team for succeeding against inferior talent and making the most of it.They were 7-0 because of the all-around play of their team. They are7-1 because of the overall play of the team. The opposing team will show up sometimes and give a team a serious challange. That's just playing the games. If they're not perfect like you like, there is always another team to follow.Go be a Colts fan since their record is still perfect. It's not good to consort with the enemy before a game. These guys don't see things the way guys used to.Your hero Butkus used to say that he hated everyone on the opposing team. How serious can players be overall when they can enjoy each other's company before they play. The guy that gave our team bullitin board material goes out with our star and turn around and have a monster game.UNBELIEVABLE.What am I a fan of?
Roman responds: OK guys, this is supposed to be about the Bears. No more personal posts. Thanks.
I hope Lovie can figure it out. I have no desire to suffer through a 4-game losing streak going on 5. What I have going for me though is I don't expect a win every game like I did in the 80s. So my hopes aren't crushed when they lose. I don't look to the Bears for weekly entertainment. To me it's a quest for the championship and that's it. So I look at what needs to be done to achieve that. The '85 team brought home the hardware. They are heroes for that. They always will be. So can these '06 guys if they get the job done. They've achieved a 7-9 record so far. Not quite hero status yet.
