I admit being one of the skeptics who raised an eyebrow when some of you were talking Super Bowl for the Bears, but it doesn't seem so improbable now. Still a lot of football to be played, but this team looks to be getting better each week.

Hey Mg
How'd Grossman and Thomas do? Good enough yet?
And Lovie, obviously a mediocure coach, right?
that's about the size of it. the Bears flat-out dominated a quality football team today; Roman, this is the flawless game you spoke of weeks ago.
even my own reluctant heart has defrosted a bit toward rex grossman; he continues to show why he's starting. the defense is its usual self, as are the offensive line and running backs. if you'd told me at the beginning of the season that bernard berrian and rashied davis would be the kind of deep threats they are, I'd have laughed in your face.
go bears.
(and, for anyone paying attention--was i right about the pitfalls of the 4-wide set? sure, jackson dropped a sure touchdown--but that's about it.)
I don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but it's hard not to start thinking Superbowl.Everyone else is beating up each other every other week and the BEARS are the only team,so far, hasn't lost. They may lose but it'll be hard to shake my confidence in this team.I was in the Army during 85 and I didn't catch all of the games,so I'm not familiar was the every week buzz.If it felt like this watching the games man did I miss something.I was in Ft Meade and had to watch the Redskins and that silly Joe Theisman most of the time.I caught them on tape but the real time has to be much better. The season is a marathon but I'm ready to sprint to the Superbowl.Who is left to beat that would convince you that they won't get to the promise land?Pats? At this juncture I'd say maybe not.Only injuries or a total collapse will bring this team down.GO BEARS!!!!
There is absolutely no doubt that the Bears are the team to beat in the NFC now. Look at the rest of the schedule: what games do you think are really gonna be tough for the Bears? Honestly? I see three straight road games against the Giants, Jets, and Patriots. That's it. Maybe the Vikings will give the Bears a fight at home, but I doubt it.
Sure, the Bears will drop a couple, maybe 3. But I wouldn't be surprised if they steamrolled their way to 14-2, with a first-round bye and home-field. And after what I saw against Seattle I can't say I think they'll be one and done this time. They're too complete a team. I could be wrong, of course. But I doubt it.
Bears are definitely one of the top teams.
WHAT IS UP WITH BENSON? I WATCH HIM MOST OF THE GAME
AND HE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE PART OF THE TEAM. HE WAS STANDING OFF ALONE. HE WAS NOT ALKING AND PLAYING AROUND WITH THE OTHER PLAYERS.HAS HE BEEN KICKED TO THE CURB BY THE OTHE RPLAYERS ON THE TEAM? HE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE VERY WELL LIKED. HE IS ACTING LIKE A BABY.
Don't feel bad Roman. I think alot of people were wrong about the Bears this year. You knew going into this year that they had a good defense, but goodness, this defense is flat out dominant. Not to mention that the offense seems to proving the critics wrong too.
Man, everyone looked good. While the defense is not surprising me, I never thought Rex would be able to play at the level he's been playing at. I'm glad he's proving me wrong.
perfect season bears 16-0 dolphins 0-16 superbowl bears 46 to 10 over patrtiots
The Bears are the team to beat in the NFC. But wait, aren't we still in early October? Injuries will take their toll, depth charts will be tested. If my memory serves me, the Bears have a lot of players with a history of injuries. Can Lovie pull a Bellichek and win the title with backups and wideouts playing on defense? Will the Bears peak too early as they did last year? We'll see. But yes, right now the Bears are the team to beat in the NFC.
What has been lost in these victories for the Bears is that they might have their best field goal kicker since Kevin Butler. Robbie Gould is perfect so far, and that as much as anything helped us in Minnesota.
This team is for real. They are capable of beating ANYBODY. The key will be staying healthy. As for benson,as time goes on and he starts to produce things will work themselves out. It could be this year or next but I think people are trying to make an issue out of nothing. It seems smith is starting to make better calls each week he only had a couple of bad calls this week but who doesn't have a few. Great game, I was glad madden and other sportscasters pointed out it did not matter if alexander was in there or not because I was waiting for people to say thats why we won. This week was no lucky play or bad calls or seattle with too many penalties. It was ALL bears PERIOD!!!!!!!!
Don't get to cocky. History tells me Grossman will choke and the Defense will break.
I have been a Grossman basher since he came to Chicago. I wante Griese to start since they signed him. I am so happy that Rex has shown that he is for real. The defense speaks for itself. I think they are the only four man front in the NFL that can do what they do. I am not saying anything about the Superbowl. I am hoping though.
Well to me, theres no question the Bears are the Best in the NFC right now. It's hard for me to find a Team in the NFL that the Bears can't beat. They are dominating teams. The only team they struglled with So far is the Vikings, But the Bears played a bad game, and the coaching staff made some questionable moves as well. Even with all that, they still came back and won. Now, they have a 6 game stretch where they should win every one of those games. So its up to the coaching staff to keep the team focused and not get too cocky.Anyway my confidence is very high right now with this team
After the beating that the Bears just put on the Seahawks, I think by far that they are the best in the NFC maybe the NFL. They dominated the suppposed best team in the NFC in every facet of the game. The running game finally got going and the D stuffed that 4 wide set right down the Hawks throat. I don't know if there is anyone who can block T. Harris. He looked unstoppable last night. As for the Offense, finally establishing the run will open up the passing attack even more. Look for Rex and The wideouts to have a field day next week against a young unproven Bills secondary (They are starting two Rooks at safety).
The Bears are definitely the best team in the NFC by far. You give this team a 10 point lead and nobody can beat them.
The only possible contendor may be Carolina down the road. However I'm a bit skeptical because Steve Smith seems to be having a hard time staying healthy.
I actually think this team won't lose more than 2 games. It's hard to imagine who they might lose to. At this point, the only team that looks as though they can give them a possible run will be the Patriots. You can never underestimate Tom Brady on any given Sunday.
Other than that, I think these Bears may be Super Bowl bound. They may even be the best team in the NFL. They have given up the least points by game and rank 2nd only to the Colts in points put forward.
GO BEARS!!
What is up with Benson ??
Anyone notice, last night after a nice run he came back to the huddle and Tait put out his hand to congratulate him. CB ignored him. Another time after he was tackled a team-mate offered a hand to get up but baby Jesus dissed him also..I think the coaches will it in the films! I hate to see a bad attitude out there with so many quality guys.. WAKE UP MR. BENSON !!!!! Your turn will come if you don't piss-off everyone first. Remember, life is 10% about what happens and 90% how you react to it...
Thanks Bears for the killer victory over the Seahawks! I have been razin' Hawk fans all day. Havin a blast!
I guess that the same people who questioned Grossman will question Benson. Leave him alone! He'll have his time. If I recall, there were moments where even Walter Payton was alone on the sideline, or the bench! I think that the guy will do more than the last five running back selections combined. Now don't get me wrong I like Thomas Jones but, John Madden was right HIT THE HOLE! I had flashes of James Allen with all the dancin'. Also, kudos to Tommie Harris! He will start to see double coverage and when he does.... someone else is going to get those sacks because the whole defense is soo quick!
The thing about Benson is he is an enigma. He isn't very likable, but he is very talented. Even more so than Thomas Jones. I saw after he broke that long run, one of the lineman reached out to give him a pound, and Benson left him hanging! Things like that can only concern you. It's nothing really, but maybe he do need to work on his personality a little. This team is as close knit as it's been in years and Benson seems out of the loop. It's not that important right now, But later on he needs to establish trust with his teamates.
I have a question;why do they constantly bring up a players transgression every time they talk about what he does on the field? That absolutely drives me crazy.I'm there for the sport and not what they do in their personal life.We don't need dirt on our players just to enjoy what's happening on the field.Just about every reporter reporting on the game mentioned Manning being in court. It may have been news-worthy Tuesday night and Wednesday but it should be a moot point after Saturday.I don't know if anyone cares who has trouble off the field.I just want them to produce on Sunday. If the guy does anything on Sunday watch someone bring it up.Sometimes the media has to repeat itself adnausea. And please can they stop referring to Rex as the wonder bear and us as the city of weak shoulders. If I see that in print, again, I'm gonna scream. It was not a label I ever heard anyone repeat. It didn't stick and no one used it like a catchphrase other than Mariotti. Sometimes he's like Jack from Will & Grace trying to start a new catchphrase. Please stop.Last boy picked in sports please, stop. Ask the fans if we want to hear repeatedly what joe-blow from cocoa-mo did on his day off. This should be the sports page not star magazine.Let me enjoy the sport.UUGGHH.That said,GO 4-0 BEARS!!!
I hope MG hasn't fallen off the earth. You're crazy dude.REX playing too good for you or are you somewhere starting his fan club or jumping on his wagon. We miss your sage advice,And your keen observations.GO BEARS!!
What people are concerned about with Jones is the poor production on most of his carries. Sunday seemed like a typical outing except for the TDs. If you exclude those two short TD runs, 73% of his carries resulted in an avg of 1.6 yds per carry and 23% were for a loss or no gain. That is awful. It's mostly due to his poor technique of hopping and skipping which is what he does when he doesn't see a big hole. He needs some coaching and apparently isn't getting it. If he refuses to change then Turner needs to run the FB or throw short passes on 1st & 2nd down instead of running Jones. Most of his poor results are on those two downs.
Running game is fine--Jones is not going to average more than 3 or 4yds a run, because the passing game is clicking. Teams are still respecting Jones' ability to break one for a long run, this is ideal for the passing game, that opposing defenses has to respect all the Bears' offensive weapons.
On another note: I have been reading and hearing how some media and fans are talking about a superbowl and this is too soon. I for one disagree. As a fan I am celebrating and relishing every moment of this--I am thinking superbowl all the way, its been too long, lets enjoy it as much as possible, so bring on the hype--And the players of course cannot think like fans, they have to stay focus and think only what they need to do to win the next game. Against Seattle, they made it official to the rest of the league, that they are for real and teams will be gearing up against them, lets see how they handle the hype. My guess Lovey will keep them grounded.
Awesome game they played almost a perfect game, on a national stage, its good to be a Bears fan--we have been waiting for this for a very long time, so lets not hold back and celebrate every moment of this season--you know this kind of magical season doesn't happen very often--I am tired of the 85 Bears, I am ready for the 06 Bears--so bring on the hype and shine the spotlight on Chicago...baby!
There is without a doubt that the Bears are the best team in the NFL. I always believed that if Rex got healthy he could take the offense to a level that Bear fans had not seen in a long time or heck, ever. He was runner up in the Heisman, yeah there is always that Heisman curse, but I always felt he was for real. He's maturing as every week comes. The defense is much deeper than it was last year and I'm glad that ESPN and other of the sporting reporters have acknowledged that the Bears are for real. Injuries do happen as the season goes along, but if this unit can stay healthy without a doubt the road to the Super Bowl is coming through Chicago.
There are some of us Bear fans that are believers and some that sometimes are skeptic. I've waited for a long time to see a team that could compete, although I always stuck by them when through all the years of heart aches. This is the best team the bears have had in a looooong time. Its our year!!
I don't want to hear it now about my guy REX. I said it all along, he'll be one the best QBs before the season started. Amazingly u can tell a playa just by looking at him for a short time. I knew he was the real deal after that playoff loss to Seattle last season. Griese is just a backup (insurance policy) I can't believe anyone would put their brains together to even think Griese should start!
Not only are they the best team in the NFC, but they are the best team in the NFL this year. They will be doing a re-mix of the Super Bowl Shuffle this year!
The Seattle lashing puts me squarely in front of the Tribune building, with my imaginary mob calling for the head of Rick Morrissey... his snide, condescending little missives against THIS Bears team made my eyes burn for weeks! Tribune + Chicago sports = CRAP!
GO BEARS.
HI, MY NAME IS SAL AND I'M OFFICIALLY ON THE GROSSMAN BANDWAGON! I publicly apologize for all the crap i gave and said about Rex.Good job kid, keep it up! Now, about benson, yes he is kinda a loner but does that make him a bad guy? He runs very hard if ya'll noticed and did run thru some tackles. Jones really needs to understand this is a one-cut league. Pick a spot then hit it for christ sakes T.Jones you are better then that.Plus a linebacker shouldn't be able to catch ya from behind when you are sprinting to the end zone! That being said i'm happy that the is only a few things to iron out on this team compared to all the worries we have had in the last 15 years or so. I'm gonna enjoy this win for a while because it was the best I've seen this team play in a very long time. P.S. WHATS THE DEAL WITH HESTER?
Thomas Jones is a good cutback runner. But you're right, when he doesn't see a hole he starts skippin and hoppin like James Allen. I can't stand when he does that! But he does pick up blitz well though, which is the only reason why he's starting in the first place. I mean I think he is talented too, but that hoppin and skipping has to stop. Just hit it
The thing about Jones is he missed a lot of training camp.He needs to get a rhythm sometimes. When he gets hit sometimes it's in the back field.Yeah,he hops and that drives everyone crazy but he protects the QB better than Benson.Benson didn't get a lot of yards on his carries either.I missed the attempts to congratulate him.If I had seen it I would have commented on it earlier.Nice catch.Maybe he didn't get in against Minn. because they don't trust him. This guy might upset the cohesiveness of this team with those antics.I don't think it helps that people keep looking for trouble from anyone. You have to admit, sometimes that sell papers. Our fullback is an adequate blocker. He wouldn't be much better even in short yardage. We can't burn the guy out because he's the only FB we have on our gametime roster. But if you get Jones in a rhythm he would get better during the game.He constantly looks to our sideline to see if he's coming out.He was starting to look good against Minn. and then they started passing again. All backs say they get stronger as the game gets longer.Look at how he jumped up after that 13/14 yard run.It was like he was saying finally.I think he's trying too hard. It's not like he doesn't know how to run it's just that he's trying to stake the job.He doesn't want to bitch and complain to keep the starting position.I bet if he didn't look over his shoulder that much he'd get a better feel for the game.Don't forget he almost busted 100 yards and his average per carry was over 4 yards a carry.Even Barry Sanders had a bunch of games where he was stopped cold all game and ran off a 75 yard carry that encompassed running about 120 yards north, south, east and west, and then he'd end up with 130 yards for the game. Now, I'm not saying that Jones is anywhere like Sanders,I'm just saying that that's what Barry did on most occasions.Don't worry,Jones will come around. That said,GO BEARS!!
I always believed in this team. I knew if Grossman got a chance he would show the country that he will be next best quarterback in the NFL. With this team can you say, DYNASTY!!?
Well as far as Jones goes I am wondering if he is taking a small hit and going down because he doens't want to get hurt. Remember he wants a bigger contract and a hurt player might not get it. Cedric Benson now he does need to bond with the team. He got what he wanted last year and should be producing now. What was said about him after the Viking game is not totally true. I watched the last two minutes of the game three times and as Grossman went to the sideline after the touchdown Benson was one of the first to celebrate with him. I think we need to give him a chance and if by the end of the season if things don't change then we have great trading material. That being said. The Bears are probably the best in the NFL and I could see them possibly losing at most two games. Gotta love that Bear defense!!!
Jones never said he wanted a new contract. He wanted assurance that he wouldn't get dumped.Just because his agent was involved doesn't mean he was looking for more money. No one ever said he wanted more money. That was assumed. He wanted someone to show him the love,so he could keep getting the money.A running back with a rep for getting hurt as much as Jones and not getting any younger could never make money like what the BEARS owe him.Everyone knows that our off.line got a LOT of credit for his yardage. That said,GO BEARS!!
About Cedric Benson: he's no more stand-offish and dismissive than Thomas Jones is. He doesn't like not being on the field; to say that his behavior is representative of any kind of aloofness or disconnect between he and his teammates is premature. Remember, this kid has started--what, one game in his career thusfar? He doesn't have the kind of rapport Jones has with the line. He's definitely not used to being on the field when it counts; hell, he's not used to being on the field at all.
Anyone wonder why J.D. Runnels hasn't been suiting up? He looks much more talented than McKie. I understand he's more of a finesse fullback than a bruiser--but he's got skills. I heard he's hurt, but does anyone else know what's going on?
And please, please, please--let's not get ahead of ourselves with all the talk about the rest of the season. There's still a lot of football to be played--me, I'm going to be tense all the way to win number 11.
I may sound like a broken record, but I still think it's too early. They're the 1st quarter favorite. They are number one right NOW. Let's wait to see if they get any major injuries, and it's not like they're going to go undefeated. But they are one of the deepest teams in the NFL, and I think the only major injuries that would hurt them would be on the offensive line. I still am looking forward to an excellent season, and I will say they are the best team maybe in the NFL currently. I hope it stays that way.
Well I'm enjoying this season as it goes. I'm prepared for a couple of bad games from this team, but I don't expect them to lose more than 4 games this year. Everone on the nation has now seen how dangerous this team is. And the Bear know how good they can be. It is going to be a fun, fun year I'm telling you. Remember '95 when the Bears Offense was rolling and everyone was acting shocked that they could move that ball? The started 6-2 and missed the playoffs that year because the defense couldn't stop anyone. I'm not worried about that this year, in fact, just from watching them, from a standpoint of all three phases of the game; they are better any team playing right now (all biases asside).
Just think how much better they would be if Ditka was still coaching . . . O.K., sorry, I had to get that out of my system.
What I seen So Far Throughout The NFL, The Bears Look Pretty Dominanted. I Can't See Any Other Team Out There Who Can Hawk The Ball Like The Bears Defense Do, They Are Really Fast. Oh, Rex Grossman Is Amazing So Far...Thomas Jones, He's Alright, I Wish He Had Breakaway Speed.
When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars, The Bears will rule the planet and everyone from Urlacher, Briggs, Grossman, Jones, Gould, and even that Brendan Ayan guy from special teams will be stars. This is the dawning of the Age of the Bears, and it's gonna be a long strange journey, but WOW, what a rush!!!
I think the real test for the Bears is the three game swing through the East. Giants, Jets, and Pats, all on the road. If they can handle that, watch out! Time to buy SB
tickets then.
I have to agree with the 3 game road series. I can see the Bears beating the Giants and the Jets, now the Pats are going to probably be the toughest game they have. The Pats know exactly what they have to do to win I don't care who they are playing. I have been watching the Jets also and they have been in each game, but the Bears should pull it off. So when the Bears get to the Pats they should still be undefeated. Now I would like to get an opinion and I know everyone here has one. Who will be the toughest AFC opponent the Bears will face? I can see the super bowl on the horizon. DA BEARS. Oh year I would like to see Ditka out there too. I do think Lovie Smith is a great coach and worth much more than he is getting paid this year.
13-3 or 12-4
The Bears cruise to the playoffs..
Then, who's gonna stand in their way? NYGiants? Dallas? Seattle? Nope..
Bears win NFC!!!
Then we beat Indianapolis in the Super Bowl!!!
You heard it here first from ROCCO!!
DA BEARS!!!!!!!!
The Bears will dominate every team on their schedule this season. There's no reason they can't go 16-0 as long as their defense continues to hold opposing teams to fewer than 10 points and Rex stays healthy. A small part of me hopes the Ravens, Colts, and Bears all go undefeated this season. What would be more historic than two undefeated AFC teams meeting in the AFC Title game, and then two undefeated teams meeting in the SuperBowl? And then, after the Bears win, there would be no disputing that they were the best team in Football History! Hey! Don't laugh! It can actually happen! Go Bears!
Runnels looked like he was hurt in preseason trying to adjust to an awful pass from Orton.I thought he was headed to IR ,really. He's a rookie who may not have his assignments down. There's a lot to being a fullback. It's not just blocking.Or runnining into someone full speed. It's picking up the proper blitz side opening holes in the right spot and catching passes after you've made contact, sometimes with a def.lineman, before you even get off the line of scrimage. There is a TON of things you need to know and if you're not prepared it can hamper your offense. There's a reason he was a 5th or 6th round pick.If Johnson wasn't hurt again Runnels might not have made it at all.Mckie took a while to get where he is right now. He's not top-flight but he's adequate for the scheme. If Johnson wasn't hurt like he was all those times our offense would've been scarier than it is.He did everything better than Mckie. But he's gone now and we'll have to make do.I don't hate Mckie.Sometimes you have to have a guy in place that won't lose games for you.But you can't expect him to win them either. For the rest of the season I hope our team doesn't sustain any severe injuries. We have some good back ups in place and that's going to help if anything goes south.I'm more worried about a back up linebacker, more than anything.Everything on defense was improved but LB.Brandon What's his name was good when HH was out but I wouldn't expect him to provide a sustained benefit as a starter.Eventually he would've been exposed. He's great on special teams though.I love his motor and enthusiasm but not as a starting linebacker. His recognition skills may not be great. But with the other two,Briggs and Urlacher I wouldn't want to do without either one. There's too much of a drop off for what they do.No one would come close to replacing them if we had to.Our Offense surprisingly have some depth everywhere but FB.Davis is a decent backup.Bradley if he ever comes around can be very good.Gage.I don't know.Size.No skill and no speed.Either he's hurt or he's on his way out.I thought he'd be another Marcus Robinson-type player. He hasn't shown me much lately. Our line has good backups who will be starting next year.Maybe two new starters who are now backups .All and all, Ithink we're in good shape this year.We have to have a few more blowout wins to get backup guys in and avoid letting our core players play the whole game.I'm reading a lot about how our guys are avoiding TRAP GAMES and Playing only the game at hand.Excuse me for rambling more than usual but I had a little time on my Saturday off to assess the situation with our BEARS.Time to get out and enjoy the rest of the day before I'm cooped on Sunday watching all these great football games, including our team. That said,GO BEARS!!
I hate the 72 Dolphins Bears 16-0 Grosman MVP!!!! By the way I hate the 72 Dolphins HATE
From what I saw today, there is no jumping from the couch. These players are for real. I saw men against boys and the commentators treated us like royalty set against a backdrop of the gladiators. I was so proud of our team today 1985 kept flashing before me. Bring on the best our warriors have come to besiege you! Yes all the injuries that have haunted us and kept us down the last few years have made us a stonger deeper team. Bring your best we'll handle the REST!!
Since we're talking about the best team in the NFC, why hasn't anyone mentioned the 4-1 Eagles? I've been a Bears fan my whole life, but I know that quarterbacks are the difference maker in this league. What are McNabb's weaknesses? Jim Johnson continues to find ways to put pressure on the qb. Grossman's still liable to throw the int off his back foot. That td to Davis would have been picked off by an experienced safety.
Then again our defense is great.
Alex, your right, the Eagles should be mentiond, but in fairness as the SECOND BEST NFC Team. yes McNabb is great and has much more expierience than Grossman, that much is granted. But the Eagles do to this point have one more loss than the Bears. And the Bears have a much more complete TEAM (Defense,Offense,Speacial Teams) than Philly has shown. Grossman doesn't even have to the Best QB or even the Third best for this team to be the Best. Injuries, Turnovers and the Bears being full of themselves are the things greatest at this point that could stop them from taking it all.
Philly has a back who is always broken.Nuff said.
Ok, I think we have established that the Bears win the NFC, and Rocco says the Bears beat the Colts in the Super Bowl. The problem that I see is yes the Colts are undefeated, but they shouldn't be. They had some tough runs against bad teams (jets, titans). We could be the other contenders for the AFC and what are the thoughts behind each AFC and how does it affect the outcome? I am a huge Bears fan. I just want to know what others think. I would have to say the Pats are going to be there in the end. Belicheck (I think that is how you spell it)knows how to coach and knows how to win. Tom Brady could run an offense with all third stringers and find a way to win. I am thinking a repeat of the 85 super bowel, but the score a little closer. I would really like some other opinions.
90% of the credit is due to coach lovie smith. he has lived up to the predictions that he has laid forth..he said before he started the job that the bears would be fast, play good defense, run the ball and create turnovers. he gave the bears an identity..if he was white he would be voted mayor of this city..
Come on Marvin, don't say that.Ditka never became Mayor. And his popularity was greater, due to having roots in this city. From his playing days to his triumphant return as a coach. For the most part, this city will honor who would make a good Mayor.Harold Washington became Mayor because he moved to undivide this city.He would have lasted a lot longer here if he wouldn't have died.Leave Lovie where he is and let Richie remain the primary crook he is,has been and will always be.Give SOME Chicagoans a guy with a name and a platform and he'll win every time.Let's just talk football, man. That said,GO BEARS!!!
I'm over here in Afghanistan. And the bears are looking good. Good Luck on the season. And Great Job White Sox we will get them next year.
Marvin, Marvin, Marvin...
Did you just crawl out from under a crack rock? I would have laughed at your comments if I didn't feel so sorry for you.
One word - YES.
Plain and simple. After last ngiht's miracle, YES. Good teams find ways to win!
