The Fire beat the Charlotte Eagles 2-0 in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup at Winthrop University Wednesday. The Fire will host the Columbus Crew on June 12 in the fourth round of the tournament.

In his Fire debut Mike Magee scored in the 11th minute and assisted on Chris Rolfe's goal in the 57th minute goal . Backup goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi started for the Fire in place of Sean Johnson who is with the U.S. National Team.

"Both those guys, they looked to combine and looked for each other," Fire coach Frank Klopas said. "I think they're kind of easy players to play with. Mike coming in, you can just see the way he sees the game, he's thinking one or two steps ahead."

Fire midfielder Logan Pause hurt his groin and hamstring late in the first half Wednesday and will be evaluated on Thursday.

Pause was subbed out of the game at halftime in a move that Klopas had planned prior to kickoff so he could get the Fire captain rest in advance of Sunday's game against the D.C. United at Toyota Park.
