Fire appeal Jeff Laretowicz red card

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The Fire has appealed the red card that midfielder Jeff Larentowicz received in the 63rd minute of the Fire's 2-0 loss to the Impact in Montreal on Saturday.

Larentowicz received the card for what was perceived to be a challenge at the edge of the Fire penalty box after Montreal placed a through ball into the area. However, video replay clearly shows that Larentowicz was trying to avoid contact--indicating the play shouldn't have warranted even a yellow card.

The issuance of a red card automatically results in the suspension of that player for the team's following game.

Each team is allowed to make two unsuccessful red card appeals. All appeals are presented to an independent review panel with one representative from each of the following entities: U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association and Professional Referees Organization.

The Fire anticipates that a decision will be made in the next two to three days.
