The Fire announced Thursday that Estonian attacking center midfielder Joel Lindpere has been selected by Estonian National Team manager Tarmo Rüütli to represent his country in upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against the Netherlands on March 22 and against Andorra on March 26.
Lindpere will leave this Sunday after the Fire's game in Kansas City on Saturday. He will miss the Fire's game on March 24 against Chivas USA at Toyota Park.
Acquired this offseason by the Fire in a trade with the New York Red Bulls, the 31-year old Lindpere made his international debut on Nov. 1, 1999 in a friendly against the United Arab Emirates. His has scored five goals in 84 international appearances.
Lindpere has started in both of the Fire's two games this season, but has struggled to gel with his teammates thus far. He will be missing a critical time for the Fire, which has lost its first two games and failed to score a goal so far this season.
