After the U.S. Men's National Team called up Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson on Monday, the club was pressed to sign a goalkeeper for Sunday's game against Chivas USA at Toyota Park and Tuesday announced it had signed Alec Kann.

Kann will backup Paolo Tornaghi who is expected to start in goal on Sunday.

"We're pleased to add Alec to our roster," Fire President of Soccer Operations Javier Leon said in a team statement. "We had the opportunity to observe Alec's game for the past two seasons and he is a solid addition to our goalkeeping corps."

Kann spent the 2012 season with US-PRO side Charleston Battery, a club with strong ties to the Fire. The 22-year old Kann made 65 starts at Furman University, compiling a record of 37-16-10 and earning 18 shutouts.
