The Fire has preseason training camp in Florida and California so players have the opportunity to play under pristine weather conditions.
But surprisingly the club welcomed a return home to Chicago when they beat the Minnesota Stars FC 3-1 in their final tune up before the regular season.
In fact, they'd relish the opportunity to play in the cold as long as they can, hoping that it can provide them with an even greater advantage at home.
"It's a great day to play," midfielder and captain Logan Pause said. "Obviously a little chilly. But a great day to play. Maybe some teams that come from warmer climates won't like it but we see this every day so it's fine for us."
Friday's game was played on the Fire's turf field next to Toyota Park in preparation for their March 17 season-opener in Montreal which will also be played on turf.
