Players of the night

Pitching

Adam Wainwright - Cardinals
Vs. Astros
8 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 5 K

Wainwright has been reliable the last two seasons in St. Louis but has taken another step forward in 2009. For one, he's been durable. Last season Wainwright made only 20 starts, he's made 27 already this season.

And his 27th start was a dandy. The Astros aren't exactly the Yankees, but shutting down a division opponent in late August is still impressive.

More, after the jump...

Hitting

OF Josh Willingham - Nationals
@ Cubs
4-4, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 5 R, 1 BB

Time will tell if Washington made the right move holding onto Willingham at the trade deadline. He's arguably their best hitter, with a BA over .300 and an OBP 100 points higher. With two homers yesterday he cracked the 20-homer plateau.

But the Nationals probably could have received a lot in return for him. No matter, he's still a heck of a fantasy player, and that's all that matters. Am I right?
