As you may have heard, Matt and I finally got around to setting up our own fantasy league. We held our first ever fantasy baseball draft earlier this month, and it was a lot of fun. Nothing like some quality smack talk to start off the year. In the days leading up to the start of the season, we'll be taking a quick look at each team in our league.
Next up is the RiverRats. Come behold the power of screen shots...
First pick: 1B Mark Teixeira - Yankees (12th overall)
Best value: 3B Casey Blake - Dodgers (20th round)
You know what you're getting for Tex at this point: a BA hovering around .300, 30-plus homers, and more than 100 RBI. Now that he's playing with the Yankees, you have to think his RBI and runs should increase, too. For having the second to last pick in the first round, RiverRats got a good one in Teixeira.
One category RiverRats should dominate in is steals. Matt Kemp and Carlos Beltran can be penciled in for 25-plus, and the sky is the limit for Ellsbury. As a rookie in Boston last season, Ellsbury swiped 50 bags. Add in another year of seasoning and subtract talented backup Coco Crisp, and that number could rise.
RiverRats pitching staff will be relying heavily on Cliff Lee and Kerry Wood. Both had career years last season that they likely won't be able to duplicate. Marlins pitcher Ricky Nolasco has more upside than anyone on RR's staff.
