The Good

Hitters

Alex Rios- Toronto Blue Jays
Vs. Cincinnati Reds
4-for-6, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 R

The real reason the big Tim Lincecum-Alex Rios trade never went through this offseason? Height. Lincecum is 5-8, Rios is 6-5. In a related story, if John Paxson settles his little predicament by going with the taller guy, I’m giving up.

Kenji Johjima- Seattle Mariners (C)
Vs. New York Mets
3-for-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

The managers in this game were Jerry Manuel and Jim Riggleman. No joke required.

Lance Berkman- Houston Astrots (1B)
Vs. Texas Rangers
2-for-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB

From wikipedia:

Berkman is a ballroom dancing enthusiast and was an alternate to Clyde Drexler in the 2007 season of Dancing With the Stars.

Bill Parcells disapproves.

Pitchers

AJ Burnett
Vs. Cincinnati Reds
Win: 8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 7 K

So Blue Jays fans don’t like Burnett because he’s always hurt and everyone thinks he’s soft, right? From wikipedia:

Burnett bought the Toronto home of former Raptors player Vince Carter for $2.8 million, $700k less than the asking price.

Trust me, there’s a correlation here.

Mark Buehrle- Chicago White Sox
Vs. LA Dodgers
Win: CG, 6 H, 1 R, 2 K, 0 BB

If only the Sox and Cubs could determine superiority by which players drove the coolest cars, I’m pretty sure the Sox would come out on top.

Jonathan Sanchez- San Francisco Giants
Vs. Cleveland Indians
Win: 7.2, 5 H, 1 R, 8 K

If you told Giants fans two years ago that Jonathan Sanchez would be significantly better than Barry Zito, how would they feel? Don’t worry San Fran, only five and half more years left! The good news? Mike Hampton is pretty happy he’s no longer the worst free agent signing in baseball history. The only thing that can possibly save Zito at this point is steroids. Hey, it worked for one Giant, right?

Bum of the day

Dan Uggla- Florida Marlins (2B)
Vs. Tampa Bay Rayz
0-for-4, 3 K

These are two of baseball’s most exciting teams, and neither of them get any sort of fan support. Come on Florida, step it up.
