Also worth noting: the electric saw scene is memorialized in Bukowski's novel "Hollywood," which is a great read, and could easily be retitled "A Memoir of Making Barfly, Except That I Changed the Names." Unlike many authors who've had Hollywood mangle their work, Bukowski was impressed enough by Schroder's devotion that he dedicated the novel to him.

In fact, this very scene makes it into the novel, though for some reason I thought it was Siskel.
